Burnopfield Tandoori in County Durham

Ordered and paid over phone for delivery and told c. 1.5 hour wait time if not sooner. Nearly 2 hours l8r had to ring to be told they were busy and food not ready. Went to collect. Food okay this time, but last order not so, with overcooked rock hard onion bhajis and seemed short on other elements/mains. Reminds me of Jubilee, Crawcrook, some years back and Jashn, Swalwell, recently, getting greedy taking too many orders and not delivering in every sense. Here son, have a can of pop as consolation.

We actually ordered by mistake. Meant to order from elsewhere but picked up leaflet pushed through door by mistake. Main courses a little on the expensive side. My wife didn't enjoy starter as prawns weren't shelled. Chicken passanda had little chicken and was more like soup. Mixed kebab starter was ok but I've had better. Chicken tikka balti was ok. Probably won't order again.

Had meals from here in the past and were very good but after this order I have to comment on how bad this was . Ordered 2 mixed wraps with keema naan and 2 tikka chips . Naan wraps were such a disappointment , 4 bits of donner , 4 small bits of spicy chicken and a shish . Chips were OK but the tikka bit was small diced bits of chicken tikka thrown in . This has to be the worst we've had from a takeaway and we've had some bad ones in the past .

First meal from here, we were not disappointed. Lovely meal and fast delivery. The delivery driver was very polite.

Always a good takeaway from here and always consistent Everytime.

Really sorry to be writing this , always gone to Burnopfield tandoori, and food been ok on the whole but tonight it was not the case, chips burnt and to honest looked like been cooked more than once, rice cold and again seemed like been re heated. The madras (which I am working out) depends what day and time you order, when midweek or early on is lovely, but order later is nothing less than just heat, with no taste. The only thing on my order was ok was the garlic nan. (Although cold) ..Binned it all. Always use local and have done but to be fair if you want the best of Burnopfield tandoori, order early, midweek, because weekends seem to be a write off..

Take away order Very disappointed. Butter chicken was a disaster: it was overly sweet with no spice, and the appearance was off-putting and not at all authentic. The presentation was terrible. Overall, it was one of the worst takeaways I've had. Dont trust those washing review. Would not recommend.Disgrace of Indian food. ***** It made me so mad that I cooked my own butter chicken next day.

Never had a bad meal in 12 years outstanding

I have recently moved to the area and was looking for an Indians to make my go to takeaway. It was a solid 10/10 for me. I got the balti, mushroom pilau, tikka chips and a garlic naan. Very good. The Highlight was the tikka chips. One of the nicest things I’ve had in a long time. Thank you guys x

The best indians in burnopfiled, if you want to try a proper curry, try a lamb punjab or a lamb danyawala.

First time ordering last night, sauce was absolutely lovely but I have gave 2 stars due to the lack of chicken, not even half a chicken breast in each curry and we bought 3 mains, all were the same, for the price it can’t be justified!

No photo, its all gone, was delicious.

Tonight I ordered Bhuna King Prawn (with extra prawns for a small charge), keema Nan without the red paste on top, tarka dhal, keema rice and lamb tikka. The delivery arrived in under 30 minutes and the delivery guys are always polite. Best Indian carry out in the area.

Our ‘go to’ Indian take-away and they’re very accommodating with my food intolerances (wheat, dairy, egg). Most of our meals are spot on, sometimes a little disappointed but it’s few and far between.

Excellent food cooked to perfection best curry I've ever had

My local takeaway and how lucky could we be? Great service and great product. If your dish is supposed to taste of garlic it tastes of deep roasted garlic. If it's supposed to be spicy it has real chillis in- their recipes are fantastic. The chicken and king prawns they use are top quality and the curries are never swimming in grease. Side dishes are as well made as the mains. I love the Saag Bhaji. We order once a month and it is always pretty much perfect. Prices are about average which is great value for well above average food. I'm bathing in the afterglow of a Chicken Tikka Jal- Frezi meal as I type. Tremendous.

Fancied a curry tonight and Burnopfield Tandoori delivered within 30 minutes. Lamb Danyawala, Prawn Bhuna, Tarka Dhal, keema rice, two keema nanns and a cauliflower bhaji between three of us for £30. The flavours and quality of the lamb were first class. Enough left over to fill one and a half cartons. I love cold curry the next day. Ten out of ten to the kitchen guys.

Decided on a curry for my lockdown Birthday, ordered the chicken tikka Bhuna for myself and me mam ordered the jalfrezi, both spot on, really full of flavour and the jalfrezi was spicy but not so spicy that it wiped out all the taste, lush. Delivery was fast and the delivery driver was wearing good PPE. Highly recommend.

We were told to try this takeaway by our daughter. I had the doner kebab wrap and my wife had the chicken wrap. Both were delicious,large and value for money. We will definetley try some of the meals from their extensive menu.

Our first time trying this take away & we were very impressed. The food was hot & tasty with plenty of meat! This will be our Indians of choice now!

Had a takeout from here last night and it was amazing. I had garlic prawn purée to start, chicken tikka main and garlics chips with sag paneer as a side. All were very generous portions, the purée was particularly delicious as wa the chicken tikka main. The food also wasn’t caked in grease as is sadly often the case with Indians. Only slight downside was there was no mint sauce served with the chicken tikka (not sure if I should have ordered this separately or whether it should have been included and was forgotten) I do love those little onions you also tend to get on the tikka dishes as well but this was just as good without them. Thoroughly enjoyable and would highly recommend.

Flavour was nice just a shame our food was swimming in oil, gave them the benefit of the doubt but same again. Sorry will never use them again.

Great place to go if you are on a diet ...food is nice but last time I went in was 2 year ago... I used to spend £40 a week here until I went in and got my curry and the carton was only half full nothing worse than paying good money and getting half a curry ....penny pinching cost them £4000 since then...their loss

We love this place. It is definitely the best tandoori I have ever ate from. The meat and veggie thali are amazing value and you can change some items for a small fee. Highly recommend!!

Hadn’t had a takeaway from here for ages and they did not disappoint. Generous portions with plenty of meat. Good hot temperature. Tried a cheese nan, it had enough cheese in it to taste cheesy.

Everytime we walk past this local, friendly tandoori, we cant resist the amazing smell and have to go in to get a curry. My personal favorite and the one that i would reccomend is the King Prawn Korma. Thank you for readimg my tenth reveiw.

Nice and tasty food but quite expensive. The delivery was quick and the staff were accommodating about our requirements.

Second cold meal to replace 1st one. Ciold . chips cold bhaji naan unedible last money you get from us. 2 stars because it would be nice if hot.

Consistently high standards for both food and service - I've used them since they first opened a good few years ago, and they've never had an 'off night' yet. Highly recommended.

Really enjoy takeaway food from the Burnopfield Tandoori. Always ready on time for collection. Prices are average. I have friends who travel a few miles to order takeaway here so it is obviously one of the best around.

So Burnopfield's an oddity isn't it? Having spent a few months there, the concentration of takeaways is truly staggering considering the population and size of the place. I'm sure sociologists would have a field day with that.... Anyway, I'd argue that Burnopfield Tandoori is the best. It has a good and varied menu. I've enjoyed everything that I've ever had from there. All of the food is well made, arrives on time and is about right on cost too. I'd be up for Burnopfield on most given Friday nights. So why no five stars? Well, traditional Burnopfield quirks don't help. No card machine, no online ordering, no website are all imperfections that irritate a whiny millennial like me. It's also not open for lunch. But perhaps more than that, the food is very good, but not great. There's nothing to make it stand out in a big way. Nothing innovative or particularly exciting. It's just a very good Indian takeaway. And if you put 4 stars into TripAdvisor it says ´very good´. But go, it's the best takeaway in Burnopfield for sure.

Excellent food, super tasty fresh and always hot. I love indian food and it took us a while to find a good indian takeaway, we love this place we have atleast one takeaway per week. The king prawns are huge and juicy and the garlic chips are amazing!

Had never tried this until recently but pleased we did. Definitely the best Indian take away near us and it will now be our regular!!

We've recently moved to the area and decided to try this place out. Even though it's across the road, I did a quick Google search to try find a menu and see what the reviews were like - they all seemed really good. I rang in the order and asked for the total, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the value for money is. So much so that I was weary they left an item off the order, but they hadn't. My partner ordered her usual chicken korma and she rated it as the best she'd had. I had my favourite, saag paneer, it was as good as the best I've had (Indian Chef, Lanchester). Top marks to the Burnopfield Tandoori, we'll be back!

First time i have ordered from here in over a year food used to be outstanding tbh but tonight food was horrible watery currys that were quite bland, undercooked naan and poperdoms that amazingly tasted like wallpaper surfice to say we will not order from here again

Good quality food for excellent prices. Curry always seems to be more spicy on a Friday. Available for delivery or collection. Parking outside is limited but you can usually find somewhere in the backstreet.

This is a nice takeaway in the village of Burnopfield. The food is excellent when collected but their delivery service is not so hot. They offer a good menu and apart from the delivery, the service is generally good.

Its now my 4th order from here. They always say 45minutes sir and delover within half an hour. The food has met and exceeded my expected standards every time. RECOMMENDED

Had family staying, we ordered a selection of dishes and all tasted delicious. It is reasonably priced, we spent about £8 per head and had food left over. We will definitely go back.

Me and my boyfriend have a curry from here regularly and the food is just amazing. I try and sample something different everytime, however, this has proved difficult recently as the chicken rogan josh is my favourite by a country mile. Fresh ingredients and staff are lovely and friendly. Inside is very clean with a large selection of magazines and newspapers to read if you are waiting for your order. I used to be a massive fan of the Jamdani in Whickham, but I think this is better - won't go anywhere else now for takeaways. Keep it up guys.

Having used Burnopfield Tandoori for about a year, I can happily say I've never had a meal that's been anything but good at worst. Always fresh, tasty and of the highest quality. Friendly staff and food you keep returning for. I've no reason to go anywhere else.

Sometimes its difficult to do a review based on going once - people seem to like this place but I was a bit disappointed with my curry which was way too sweet.Perhaps it was just the style of the curry I ordered (although the menu didn't say it would prepare it in a sweet style) and I would like to give it another go to try other dishes.

This establishment used to be The Clay Oven. Food varied between quite nice and unacceptably poor.Now it is great. The nicest Chicken Tikka Jal Frezi I have tasted. Don't get takeaways much so haven't sampled a broad section of the menu but every dish we have tried we have liked. The kebabs that come in a nan are pretty good too!Anyway going there tonight and looking forward to it :-)

Excellent service, food that is not compromised in any way. Great cooks, great counter staff. They are fab at adapting any dish to your preference. We go there at least once a week and have never been disappointed.
