Afternoon tea here was not good. Poor selection of sandwiches which were cut into chunky fingers with some filled too much some with very little. It appears to me that it was all prepared in a rush with little thought or effort into the selection or presentation. The cakes where a little better but again slices cut randomly big, small and fat, thin. The scones where the only attractive thing on the three tier server. Tea was really only just about tea but I do like it weak so ok for me. The service was very good hence the 2 stars. Insult to injury was a failing air conditioning system on this very hot day and they wouldn’t let us open a door until the very last half hour. We were all boiling hot and starved of fresh air drinking hot weak tea and doorstop sandwiches. This was a club event so silly they didn’t try harder as they won’t book there again which is a shame because it is local for me. Buck up your ideas Park Room and take advantage of this beautiful setting!

This was a fantastic evening out, largely made so by the quality of the food, the service and the staff. The occasion was an annual dinner for a charity and there were ca 50 people dining. The menu offered was very comprehensive and the wine list was fine. The venue also provided an overhead projector and a large screen for a presentation. All in all this was a great evening and really helped the charity raise some much needed funds. Well done to Richard and the team

Booked this venue for a wedding party on the 22nd October. The room is hired by the hour and then catering on top, picking from 6, 8, 10 items. We picked ten items. Everyone thought the venue and food was amazing and we had the best night. Big thank you to Richard.

We held our daughter’s first birthday party at Chalkwell Park Rooms and it was a wonderful experience. The communication from Richard from the start of the booking process was excellent, and the service from the staff on the day was very attentive and efficient. The room was a perfect size, with ample room for all of our guests and an indoor bouncy castle and soft play set! The food for the buffet was also really good, and had lots of compliments from our friends and family. It is my first time using the venue but I wouldn’t hesitate to book again, the staff made it such a seamless process for us all. Thank you!

We held a charity lunch at Chalkwell Park Rooms yesterday and the feedback has been amazing. The lunch was delicious and we had a choice from five starters, main courses and desserts plus coffee and chocolate with offers of refills. On our table of ten we just about covered all choices and everyone was delighted with their food. Thank you to all the staff who offered a friendly and professional service. We will be back.

Thanks to Chalkwell Park Rooms for making our wedding celebrations so special last month. We hosted about 100 people at our reception. Everything was fantastic - the food, the service, the space, and the overall price. We were so happy with it all. Such a fantastic venue. The outside space is also great on a hot day. The park wasn't busy at all when we got married on a Saturday, and guests were able to spill onto the grass. There's also a private outside terrace. Thanks again to Robert and the team.

I visited Chalkwell Park Rooms for my work's Xmas Party - great company thankfully as the accolades stop there! I have never experienced such POOR service, it was shocking. The majority of the ladies serving the food were miserable and couldn't have been more rude and unhelpful if they tried! It was unbelievable and so so substandard. (The two younger ladies at the bar were lovely). The food was distinctly average, but I wouldn't have held that against them necessarily as so many venues seem to struggle with mass Xmas catering - shame they didn't cook the broccoli though, would have been nice to have been able to cut that with a knife! I think just potatoes, carrots and (inedible) broccoli was a little sparse on the veg front. Always a disappointment to finish a 3 course meal hungry despite polishing off everything that could be eaten! After meal entertainment with the DJ and plenty of dancing with friends and colleagues meant it was a great night, but that was more down to us than you and your staff! Secret Santa suggestion - customer service training! Merry Christmas! :)

Now I am totally unfamiliar with this area and brought my kids over to the park. They were desperate for the toilet and the first place I saw was this restaurant. Rather than have the children soil themselves I quickly took them to the toilet. I'm not sure what the name of the Dragon they have employed there is but what I do know is is that she has one hell of an attitude! How she is able to work there if that's how she speaks to people and especially when in front of young kids I don't know. Safe to say I wouldn't be going there again or recommending that place (even though it's actually really nice inside).

Having already spent just under £10 on ice creams at this venue no more than 20 mins earlier, my child was very thirsty having been running around in the sun. We had run out of money so told my son to go to the counter and ask them to fill a small bottle with tap water as he was very red in the face. The two ladies both refused sighting company policy, my partner then went to ask and explained that having spent all her money there earlier could they fill the bottle as he was really thirsty and she was worried about him being dehydrated, the two ladies again refused even after seeing the danger they were putting our child in through dehydration. Eventually we went to the big House in the park run by Metal and they gave us some water. 10 mins later Chalkwell Park Rooms gave out free water for a dog, not only did the dog bowl go in the sink they used to wash up in, which in itself is unhygienic, but this company clearly believes it is correct to put a child's life in danger but give water to a dog. Apart from any thing else this behaviour is illegal. I would recommend people take their trade elsewhere this weekend with the Village Green on and continue to purchase refreshments from the shops no more than 50 yards away at a substantial discount.

We went there in December 2016, they ran out of gas for the one and only draught lager as we got there at 7.00p.m. Pre-ordered starters were wrong, main course took ages to come up, when it did arrive the meat was raw. Sent it back, eventually bought it back without any veg. This time is was rare, a little improvement. I had to rquest veg, this also took ages and when served was a dish full of mush! Neither the manage nor the owner came near nor by. At £45.00 a person, we got nothing! Zilch! Sent a 2 page letter of complaint, and heard nothing in return. Avoid this place or go hungry and get ripped off into the bargain.

We had our works Christmas do booked for the end of term. 40 people had been looking forward to celebrating together. Just over a week before we were due to go they informed us that they didn't have room for us. Why they hadn't let us know this before Is a mystery. Someone has obviously messed up but the venue doesn't want to take any responsibility for the mess. We have now had to cancel a end of term do as everywhere is booked up.

We had a good evening here with the wonderful 2Tone guys singing a good variety of music. Nevertheless We did have a few issues with the food, speaking for our own meals, the starters of smoked salmon with cream cheese was good but needed refinement, a few rocket leaves chucked on the side is really unprofessional. My husband then had the lamb rump, the meat he said was delicious but the vegetables spoilt the dish, almost raw broccoli and carrots and soggy roast potatoes. I had the sea bass which was bland and the skin was not crispy, I also had same vegetables. We both had the lemon and lime pannacotta which was rather tasteless and not as light as this dessert should be. Finally, I was really disappointed to be served horrible tasting instant coffee served from a steel jug, similar to the kind used in hospitals. I didn't drink it. Come on guys you have a fantastic venue, my son had his wedding reception here and we had no complaints then but you need to refine your dishes and please don't use cheap coffee to finish a meal it is an insult to most coffee drinkers. Despite all this we did enjoy our evening.

I went with a large group of ladies from a club for afternoon tea. It was quite cheap at £10.95 a head but very average. The tea was poured from thermal kettles and you had to wait for it to be brought round. Some of the tea was stewed. Sandwiches were served first on platters, followed by mini cakes and then scones and cream. The food was quite nice but the presentation was disappointing. It was a very hot day and one of the waitresses seemed miserable, as if it was too much bother for her. I asked for a glass of water but never got it. We all said we rather pay a little more and go somewhere more professional and friendly.

When I arrived I went into ask the proprietor when and where our party could go in to the event. I was then told to get out of the building as they were not open to the public yet as it was 11.28 and shown his watch. We were told to arrive at 11.30 for 12 noon dinner to be served. It was an extremely hot day and the elderly disabled group we were taking to the event do not find it easy at the best of times. Let alone standing in heat. They were then allowed in 2 minutes later 11.30 but were unable to use the door that had disabled access (the ramp) and told they had to use the front door which at the time was also being used as a dressing room area and had suitcases and other equipment in it. This was a complete fiasco with the entertainment party helping our clients up the stairs to steady them and spouses folding wheelchairs up and following up the two stairs with these to open and the client being put back in the wheelchair to be taken to the dining table. Some clients used tripod walkers, walking sticks and frames too. So tackling stairs is a major challenge for them. One spouse of one of our clients ended up in tears and was going to go home eventually they were allowed to use side door with disabled access. 1 of the fire exits was blocked as the entertainment team were using this area as a dressing room these are fire exits for a reason not a dressing room. . The owner did opologize later for his behaviour but obviously we were beyond this and would never ever use this venue again for any of our functions

I'm soo disappointed . We booked here for our works do and paid £60 per head for the meal and inclusive, wristbands. When we arrived there was a Buck's Fizz welcome drink which was nice but no welcome or hello from any one in charge, more a case of find your table name and sort yourself out. Our whole table had wrist bands for inclusive drinks yet their was a sign saying you are served one drink per person at a time yet the website clearly states maximum of four drinks so every person had to kept getting up from the table as they wouldn't serve us. The staff were miserable apart from an older brown haired lady who was very friendly. The drinks were soo watered down it was untrue and they had a problem with the draught cider which was flat and took five minutes to pour because of the froth. The Dj was shocking and couldn't mix tracks to save his life, you'd be half way through a song and then he'd skip to the next one, there was no interaction apart from shouting out the table names, music requests weren't even played. The waitresses kept clearing the tables if drinks that we hadn't finished with we were just up dancing and we were also told not finished at 12.30 it was made clear to us that at 11.45 when the staff were clearing up around us and moving our coats on to one chair and removing the others that they wanted to finish the night early. Definitely wouldn't recommend coming here again. Only positive that the food was lovely although seeing the owner walk in with a bag of frozen aunt Bessie's wasn't the best start!!

Im writing a review on behalf of my mum who had a Christmas work do on the 19th of december. When they arrived they were welcomed with a lovely glass off bucks fizz. The food was tasty and well presented. End of the positivesNow.....The bar,For a night that included a "all inclusive pagage" you would expect a busy bar for festive party goers to be well staffed, however we was amazed to see only 1 member of staff work the bar most of the night (unfortunately he left his christmas smile at home). During the dinner service there was no tables service for drinks so you had to go to the bar yourself, the only problem was there was a rule of you can only get a drink for yourself, so during dinner we couldnt get eachother a drink we had to go up to the bar individually to get a drink. The staffMost places if work have a saying "leave your problems at the door" well the staff left their festive spirit, manners and smiles there too. When asked about the rules or about any problems we had during the night no one seemed to care or rush to help us. This was our first staff Christmas party here and i am very sure it is our last. Disappointment is an understatement.

We came here for our work Christmas do, cost £37. We arrived at 7.20 for a 7.30 booking and had to wait outside as the restaurant wasn't open yet and the doors were locked. The food was adequate for the numbers they were catering for, however, the evening was marred by the miserable, unprofessional staff.I note that previous reviewers have commented on the friendly, helpful staff. Well they must have been given the night off as there was no evidence of this. Not once did we witness a smile. We had to hang onto our glasses we were using at the table, as on more than one occasion the waitress attempted to take our glasses, despite us still having bottles of drink on our table. When buying a bottle of Prosecco from the bar, we were asked, "have you got glasses, as I ain't got time to wash any!" One of the waitresses was wearing a big, chunky cardigan, which for one did not look very professional, but surely is not the most hygienic item of clothing to be wearing when you are serving food. After our meal, our two groups were asked to stand up so they could move both our tables back as they had been positioned partly on the dance floor. When I questioned the fact that we were being asked to move with the guy who appeared to be in charge, he told me to cheer up!! I then suggested that his waitresses were the ones who needed to cheer up, and received a response of "don't have a go at me". When I commented that I was telling him about the waitresses as I presumed he was in charge, he said he would talk to me later. He didn't. Very professional!

Visited here for a group lunch. Bright light space with bar and lovely view of park. Friendly helpful efficient staff. We had pre-chosen from a set menu and we're happy overall with our dishes. We began with a Carrot, ginger and coriander soup, good balance of flavours but a little too thick for my taste. For mains we had Beef casserole with tender slow cooked beef in a tasty gravy, served with good veggies and mashed potatoes, although I could not taste the Parmesan supposed to flavour mash. To follow there was a perfectly good Apple pie.We enjoyed the meal and would return, not wowed but satisfying. One real gripe though was the sadly watery coffee and to be honest this could be much improved with more coffee to water!

Was looking forward to going back to the Park View Suite. Sadly it was most disappointing. The wonderful location was spoilt by the fact that the curtains had to be closed to keep the sun out of diner eyes. I would suggest a roll out awning on the outside wall! What kept the sun out also kept the heat in!!! The doors were opened but the closed curtains didn't let any cool air in. The waiters/waitress were extremely helpful, the air conditioning didn't seem to work. Now for the food. On offer was sea bass on top of crushed new potatoes, lamb shank or vegetarian. I plumped for the vegetarian - stuffed pepper although I not a vegetarian. I requested that the pepper be stuffed with rice rather than couscous. The staff were very obliging and said this could be done. I had the soup to start - very tasty but luke warm. Then came my main course....................... Two halves of green pepper which looked like it had been boiled, hardly any colour to it at all, cut lenghthwise with what I can only say was a 'gloopy' risotto rice, seemed like it was just boiled in water with a vegetable stock cube. It really looked unappetizing. I did eat one half and it tasted like it looked! My friend had the sea bass which she said was good. Half a fillet on top of....... not crushed new potatoes but the same 'gloopy' rice I had in my halves of pepper - not good. Seems people who had the lamb shank were happy with it. I had the chocolate tart and ice cream, this was delicious. After my last review of the Park View Suite I am very disappointed to have to write a bad review this time. The staff were extremely efficient and very pleasant, considering there were over 70 people to served 10/10 for them - well done!

Hard to believe you are only yards away from the main Southend-London main road when you enjoy Sunday lunch at the Park View Suite in Chalkwell Park in the Southend suburb of Westcliff. Panoramic windows overlook a cricket pitch with tall trees beyond, so you could think you are in the country somewhere. But the pleasant view is not the main reason for visiting. The Sunday lunches are superb with a vast choice of traditional roasts, with attentive service and great cooking, and the chance to wander about the park to walk the lunch off. Travelling south from the restaurant brings you to the peak of a slight hill with views over the Thames Estuary to Kent.

Waiters and waitresses were very disorganised and when we arrived we were told we hadn't booked even though we had.Food was average, starter of bruschetta was disappointing and the vegetables served with the main course were dry.The entertainment however was good, with the singer letting the diners choose songs.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. I believe that this was the first occasion that the restaurant had opened at this time. I hope it won't be the last, as we were impressed with the surroundings together with the quality , menu choice and price of the fixed-price lunch menu. Entertainment was provided by the excellent resident guitarist/ vocalist and was enjoyable without ever being obtrusive to conversations. We shall definitely return in the near future. Booking is advisable, as I believe they offer 2 seating times and the restaurant seemed pretty full during our visit.

Had Sunday lunch there last week. Delicious food and excellent value. Lovely place set in Chalkwell park and family friendly. Several friends have been there for events and have all said that they will be going again. Certainly worth a try.

We went to PARK VIEW last night for our 5th Valentines. The food was magnificent and the attention to detail was lovely. Rose petals sprinkled on the tables, ribbons tied around the cutlery etc. I would definitely book this again for our 6th Valentines. Thank you Park View.

The Park View Suite has recently been taken over by new owners. I had booked the venue for my wife's 'special' birthday. We had 60 guests and had arranged a two course dinner. I can't praise them high enough. All the staff were extremely friendly and the new owner could not have done more for us. nothing was too much trouble and the food was perfect. Prices were fair and that includes the bar. I would highly recommend this for all types of functions up to around 70 people (seated at round tables ). The venue is open to the public during the day but when a more formal function is required, the atmosphere is completely transformed. It is smart and I can honestly say that all my guests thought it was excellent. They are introducing a Sunday Roast in a couple of weeks time and based on the food we enjoyed, I will certainly give that a try too.

Went to golf club annual dinner dance at the Park View Suite - in Chalkwell Park. This year it was decided to change location as in recent years the evening was very much let down by the badly cooked, cold food. The staff were extremely courteous and efficient. The three course meal was very good, nicely cooked on hot plates. I had prawn and mango to start, then stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon with plenty of nicely cooked hot vegetables, followed by lemon tart and cassis ice cream, coffee and mints. All of which I would recommend. Lovely view over the park. They have limited opening times (midweek - Sunday) I hope to go there with some friends to try out their daytime menu. Well done Park View Suite.

Wasn't much choice on menu if you don't eat red meat. Ended up with fish and chips was okay. Expensive for the size and quality.
