What a lovely evening at Papilles, a cafe by day and a wine and ‘frapas’ bar by night – the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and it has a real neighbourhood bar feel to it. So what is Frapas I hear you ask! Well, it is French tapas….! Papilles focuses it entire wine and food menu on organic local produce and wines from France (or French winemakers) and offers a number of Frapas dishes. file2 file5 The wine list is extensive with over 50 wines being served by the glass, with others being offered by carafe or bottle. Anne, who served us for the evening, is so knowledgeable when it came to the wine, it felt like I was actually on a wine tasting course! The ‘Wine Flight’ excited me – choose 3 50ml glasses of wine from the menu (you can mix and match) for only £7.50 – a brilliant way to try new wines without breaking the bank. I opted for a white, rose and red and asked Anne to choose for us. We had the Canon du Marechal Muscat-Viognier, IGP Côtes Catalanes (white) Château Beaulieu Côtes de Provence (rose) and Château Val Joanis, Côtes du Lubéron (red). Rather surprisingly for a non red wine drinker, I actually liked the choice of red (I must be growing up!). file1 Frapas wise we chose the Charcuterie Board with Rosette Saucisson , Coeur de Jambon (heart of the ham), Wild boar Saucisson and Coppa Française, which is served with a fresh bread basket. The meat was so tasty and fresh and came beautifully presented with a small knife and fork attached to a magnet on the board (I want one!) file4 We also tried the Crêpe Picarde (originally from Picardy in France) which is a pancake filled with Ham, Mushrooms, Béchamel and Cheese and cooked in the oven – melts in your mouth! For the first time, I also had Mini Raclette – layers of Raclette cheese, potatoes and Auvergne Ham, cooked in the oven, which was also tasty! file3 Given the level of service, Papilles sees a lot of repeat customers, which makes it feel more like a friendly local bar. The atmosphere is chilled and is great for a quieter catch up with friends or a date night and is perfectly located just two minutes from Old Street, slightly away from the hustle and bustle. Papilles is also open in the day for breakfast and lunch, so looking forward to visiting then too!

As much as I loathe the Eagle House development, this place is very much the silver lining! Excellent wine, lovely food, fantastic coffee and, most importantly, wonderful people working there!

The staff was lovely and competent as well as welcoming and French ! Love the idea to being able to use a nice cup of coffee or/and a delicious meal while working in a great-looking place. If you love amazing wine at a very very fair cost too you'll be in heaven. To greatly recommend to all epicureans out there !

Papilles is very eclectic. It's a great place to work in the afternoon, Internet is superfast, selection of hot and cold drinks, packed snacks and homemade cakes. If your business meeting goes up until late or you simply want to chill out, you can choose between a yummy selection of French wines, charcuterie, cheese and other quick dishes they call Frapas (which I reckon if French Tapas). There is also a vegan option, the crudités board with homemade sauces. What else? The lovely and professional staff is always ready to help and can knowledgeably advice you on wine and food.

The Brew is a great place to work in the day - amazing (seriously amazing) internet. Whenever I'm here, I eat at Papilles. The food is super fresh and crisp. Great selection. The BLT at lunch is all kinds of perfect. The hot chocolate is just the right side of sweet. In the evening if you fancy a beer (or a good wine) they dim the lights and you could sit there all night long. It's not a case of whether or not I'll be coming back, I've been coming back for ages. It's not force of habit, it's just a solid gold pleasure.

Since writing my first review, this place has opened up in the evening into a wine bar as well as a fantastic cafe. You want a very good, inexpensive glass of wine in the evenings, with good food to go with it then this is the place for you. Don't miss it. The French wine experts behind the bar are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about food and wine. The ambience is nice especially on Thursdays and Fridays.

I couldn't wish for more...The food is freshly prepared and the wine selection is pretty impressive. Staff couldn't be more welcoming and engaging without being intrusive. Try try try...A must if you are in Shoreditch

I was just accompanying my boyfriend while he had his coffee there (took less than 20min) but the french guy with a shaved head not only forced me to buy a drink, he also was unpleasant, extremely rude and ignorant about it. Awful experience, I have never seen this in my whole life! He was rude from the start with my boyfriend as well while he was ordering. I told him I was going to order soon but then, because of his attitude, I decided to leave. He was obsessed I was using his Wifi for free, while I was using my data on my phone. Either way, nothing justified his manners. When I left, he followed me and shouted "Thanks for everything", in a sarcastic tone and added loudly "next time you should order something". I told him I wasn't using the wifi, and he continued to be rude. I am NEVER coming back to this place and I will warn everyone I can to not go there ever. There are some many other places the staff is great and don't treat you like you are a criminal or something! And by the way, from the other times we've been here: terrible hot chocolate and cookies. Coffee is fine.

Like so many we hadn't dined out in a long time and my clever husband suggested to sulky me a mid-week local pick-us-up treat. I can only say wow. We loved Ceres when we last visited in 2019 but the tasting menu tonight with matched wines was out of this world and a steal at the price. Deservedly Michelin-recognised cuisine with such a friendly and professional face (just two young women currently run the whole outfit including single handedly chef-ing and wonderful front of house). Ceres is walking distance for us and we are grateful because it is a destination-grade restaurant. Fine dining for £48pp.

If you're looking for a cozy spot to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy a nice breakfast, this is definitely NOT the place for you. The entire space is crowded with people on their laptops (and not drink or food on the tables), making it impossible to find a seat. It feels more like a workspace than a coffee place . What a letdown—I was so excited to show my friends what I thought was my favorite French-style spot, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Thankfully, there are plenty of other great coffee places nearby.

Staff is nice, but not enough food in the plates unfortunately, had to order 6 or 7 plates of 'tapas' and still wasn't enough
