Papas Fish & Chips Crystal Peaks in Sheffield

Bones in fish large and one of the cod was not cod it was pollock. Asked for a discount in someway but was told we do not do any type of discount. Then she said I will take off the hot drinks. They was adding water to the fish tank with buckets fish were flying round the tank not sure if that's good for the fish but who knows.

Booked this place for tea and had it confirmed, arrived on time and the place is shut ,what a waste of time, absolute garbage 🤬

Really enjoyable gluten free meal. (Chicken and chips) Service excellent especially Pauline who couldn’t do enough for us. Definitely go again. Highly recommend.

We went to Papas for maybe the eighth or ninth time and as usual the food was excellent. More than that, we were looked after by 2 waitresses, Pauline and Isabel who were really good, a great mix of friendly and professional. We will certainly be back.

We did hear it is good restaurant so we brought our friends from abroad there. We came about 5pm and there were only a few customers. Young waitress welcommed us and brought menu which was in form of printed newspapers - interesting. We waited about 15 minutes when she came again and asked what we would like to drink. After about 10 min we got our order - 2 beers, sparkling water and J20. After about another 20 minutes she came to ask what we would like to eat. We ordered Senior's specials 4× Haddock upgraded from small to medium (+£3 each ) and 2× sponge pudding and 2× lemon sponge pudding all with custard. Senior's special did cost together with upgrade £11.99. I must say the medium haddock was huge and very tasty. After we got our fish we ordered also 4× big tartar sauce which was more like mayo than tartar sauce. When we finished main meal we waited about 15 min till the plates were taken from the table despite the waitress pass our table a few times. Then we waited about another 20 minutes for the desserts. We wanted to leave without desserts when they arrived. Unfortunately the sponge (in form like roll) was very dry and it tasted like old roll warmed in microwave. During our stay in the restaurant we saw alltogether only 14 other customers who came or gone so we don't know why we waited so long to be served. The room was nearly empty and it was customers who were looking for staff to be served or to pay. The staff need training as we never experienced such lack of interest in customers as we did here.

Purchased gluten free fish and chips and curry sauce, when we got home the chips tasted like warm ups and the fish stank of ammonia, basically it was off, stank the car out. Sent an email, but no reply. Shall not be going there ever again. If anyone wants gluten free fish and chips, Whitbys, Catcliffe is far better than the garbage from Papas.

Who would like to guess the size ordered ? I did go down the route of Contact us, with no replies.

Really first class food, fish in nice crispy batter, moist and sweet cod. Chips were brown and fluffy inside. Place was quite empty for a Saturday night but I guess fish and chips are about the food not the sit down. Quick service and short wait for food. I’ll definitely go back.

First visit to the take away after two visits to the restaurant, just as good, fabulous portions, which were excellent, a fabulous Saturday Tea 😎😎😎

Welcoming, friendly, clean. The was fantastic, no greasy chips n fish here. All cooked to perfection beautiful fish, as always plenty to eat. The staff are really attentive and wanting to give really good service. Saving the Birthday cake we had brought with us. All in all making it relaxed and special, thank you all 👏

My wife asked me where I would like to go on father's day, and I always loved their curry with the sultanas and bits in, so fancied sausage chips and traditional chip shop curry, got there with the family, ordered the above, only to get sheer disappointment! They only serve a cheap Chinese or Indian curry? Why they have changed it I don't know, probably to save money, and The food when it eventually arrived, was luke warm and the fish patty was greasy, the curry was the main reason I went back to a Pappas' was their curry, will not bother again, one spoiled day and a spoilt meal, had to settle for peas and gravy 😭

Great food Ok, priced Could do with some background music as it was quiet and it needed something to feel the atmosphere with.

There is no wonder why this fish and chip shop is the best in the country. We've never had better fish and perfectly cooked chips anywhere else. The salads were fantastic and the meze fish dish was "to die for". I recommend this restaurant as absolutely the best!

Bought a gluten free fish and curry to take away. When I got home, they’d given me mushy peas and the gluten free batter was raw in places. Very disappointing, went straight into the bin. Not the same as Cleethorpes, never again!

Pauline was absolutely brilliant as our server today. She was very friendly. She brought the food and condiments promptly and took the time to check on our table to make sure we were ok. She was lovely with other tables and customers too

Just so happened I saw Pappas fish and chips at Crystal peaks, I was very surprised when I saw inside it's very nice, I had a very friendly welcome from Sam the manager friendly polite and chatty, nothing was to much trouble , Pauline came over again I could not fault the service, I had fish chips and mushy peas, I have got to say it was absolutely perfect, everything was hot, the chips was a great colour, and the batter on the fish was cooked properly and not soggy or under cooked, the fish it's self was flaky like it should be and perfectly cooked, as for portion size again they didn't fall into the trap of portion control. Would just like to say it's the best I've had in Sheffield, so much so I'm going to take my wife, so to Pauline and Sam I wish every success it really made my day that I found a fabulous place to have fish & chips, quick mention the fish was over the edge of the plate, wouldn't go any where else, try it you'll love it.

We have visited Papas at Crystal Peaks a few times and have always enjoyed the experience. Pauline and Sam are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. The restaurant is lovely and clean, the food is cooked to perfection. It cannot be faulted and we thoroughly recommend it.

Would definitely recommend papa's, the staff were absolutely brilliant,especially Sam and Pauline. They were respectful, polite and friendly. My husband uses a mobility scooter and they were more than willing to accommodate him with his needs. We will be returning again soon and it may even become our Friday teatime treat 😀

Dirty fish tank on arrival. Mens toilet blocked with poo door left wide open. Chips not nice and peas extra for a fish dinner. Not good value for money. The waitress was excellent.

I have changed my review from the glowing one when it first opened. Been a few times and the quality has slipped especially with takeaway. Wife's a coeliac so has to have gluten free, tonight's was cooked fresh while we wait and the batter was still uncooked on the surface of the fish, like a floury sludge and not very pleasant. I know bones exist in fish from a takeaway but there were so many it spoilt it. Curry sauce was like spicy gravy. Think I will be giving it a miss and going elsewhere in future. Its a shame because it WAS good. Oh and Abi who served us asked me to mention her in the review, done.

Lovely food, amazing, friendly service. My folks keep finding spots where they get over 60s discounts and put them into hard rotation, this is their latest find. My only gripe was the ABBA playlist, but that was made up for by the random free ice cream that I definitely didn't need after a medium sized fish and chips, but it went down well. Get some snails to clean the fish tank for you though!

Arrived on Sunday, the car park and restaurant was almost empty. We were greated and told there would be a 45 mins wait as there had been a group of people arrive and she had to deal with them first!, tbh there were no more than 8 people. We decided not to wait, not a great for a 1st impression. Will not return.

Great food and excellent service from Pauline, Sam & Isabelle, the staff were very attentive and fast despite the large order they were experiencing at the time, they went the extra mile to make sure our experience was an enjoyable one. The food was lovely, I had to dock a point for the chips as they're a little hit and miss, they were a bit overcooked. Also, personal preference but the music choice could have been a little better. 😂

Visited here on a Saturday lunchtime with my nan. Arrived for 12pm, restaurant quiet. Nan had pensioners special, small haddock and salad. She enjoys the salad with dressing. I had small haddock and chips with curry sauce. We both had yorkshire tea. Nan had a chocolate pudding and custard to takeaway. Food cooked well, very tasty and hot. Nan loves the batter. Manager and servers attentive and polite. Very nice will definitely return. Please clean the fish tank though!

Could hoover or brush up between customers as floor al ways has food on. Even when they opened at 11.30am. Fish tank needs looking after should be fined for how them poor fish are living. Sponge was dry and doughy. Told my autistic child they would get 2 Sauages with their chips. Only to be given 1 when we asked about this was told waiter got her information wrong. But we wasn't told just no communication.. we asked in frist place as our daughter likes to know what will be on her plate. But one of the male staff was really helpful he understood what our daughter needed due to his own autism. And went above and beyond.

A large restaurant with simple but nice decor. I ordered a medium haddock which was more like a large a good thickness of fish and the batter was light and crispy not soggy, chips oodles of them a little dry for me but ok. If you're really hungry the large cod is gigantic 😯... Service was absolutely fine didn't wait too long for freshly cooked food and the staff are really friendly with a genuine smile 👍

Delicious!!!!! Went to Cleethorpes a week ago and this was every bit as good. Fish cooked perfectly and chips fine. Curry sauce is a must have. Shame was so quiet.

This place has gone massively down hill since it first opened. Witnessed arguments with the chef and management, previously spent over an hour in the take away queue whilst waiting for someone in front of me to be served 2 fish. Food came out tonight massively under par as dinen in. Chips were burned and cold, sent them back only to have them redelivered to the table and told that everything is cooked at the right temperature. Fish and sausage batter is thick and hard instead of light and fluffy, all in all a really disappointing experience. And not for the first time. This is the 3rd time now in the last few weeks, don't think I'll be coming back now. The photos are the chips that were delivered back after I complained about them being burned.

We visited my grandad today and he said he fancied a fish. His local fish and chip shop was closed so we came to Papa's. We had all visited the one at Cleethorpes, but it was a first for the Sheffield one. We have 2 assistance dogs with us for medical purposes. Upon arrival we was greeted by Sam, a lovely, and welcoming gentleman who couldn't do enough to help us. He took us to a table, and brought us our newspaper menus, which my grandad absolutely loved reading! Sam was so friendly and chatted away to us. He brought us over our drinks (lots to choose from), and took our order. We asked if we could have two small cods for our assistance dogs which Sam had no issues with. Our food was lovely, the fish was white, batter was tasty, and no grease in sight. For dessert we had a lemon sponge each, I couldn't decide between ice cream and custard and Sam and a lovely lady named Favour brought me both custard and ice cream. We felt very looked after and so welcomed. We definitely will be coming back soon! My Grandad was a big fisherman back when he was younger, and he loved looking at the fish in the tank, I especially loved the little turtle 🐢 !! Thank you Sam and Favour for taking good care of myself, my mum, my grandad and our two special assistance dogs. You're both a credit to Papa's who have made us all excited to come back and visit you all again soon! Xx

Bad experience due to daughter not getting her sausage with her main meal or the curry sauce ,gravy for my niece ..by time they arrived my daughter and her cousin their food was cold .. 2 hour wait to get the sausage … waitress was in a bad mood as we called her out on her attitude towards us .. this was meant to be a lovely Mother’s Day meal … the waitress also slammed my parents desserts down on the table ,they was stone cold … gluten free mother given chips with her fish pie .. big No no as she can’t eat them .. what I will say is the fish pie was good as was mine ,my son’s main was lovely .. management was in agreement with us and reduced the bill accordingly ..so thank you for that .. I will be back but not with 8 people

Lovely fish and chips and good value. Draft beers were not being served and no one else there so pretty private and friendly service.

If I could rate this fish and chip shop /restaurant any less I would ordered 4 plain sausage and chips due to my kids not liking batter and it says on the menu batter is extra and needs to be requested they also have there backs turned to you so your unable to check your order as they are packing it once got home with food to find out chips are half raw all sausages are battered to which I've had to order food from somewhere else due to food being half inedible do no recommend this place !

Absaloutbe shocking £60 worth of food on the bin cold ,dry chips all look as though they have been left a week and re cooked never again , messaged our order up added 2 extra meals and made us pay

Chips partly cooked and some burnt and some hard so looks like 3 different batches. Plenty of food though, doesn't warrant paying over a £10 for a meal to be not up to standard

Out midweek for my son's birthday, a nice change to the usual chippy tea, sitting down to fresh fish and chips. The food was lovely, I'd compare to a seaside chip shop, big portions, reasonably priced and a free dessert for the birthday boy. It was fairly quiet so staff were not rushed, Pauline served us and was the perfect hostess.

Staff were great - went out of their way on a dreary Saturday afternoon to brighten up my son’s birthday. Fish and chips was perfect - possibly best I’ve eaten - even though we’re so far from the sea. I’d go for those - menu is varied - but fish and chips were the best option by far. GF available as standard.

First visit to Papa's Fish and Chip Restaurant, went with a group to celebrate a friend's birthday. The whole experience was great. The fish are so large and tender flaky fish with really beautiful batter, plus the plates are full of crispy tasty chips. The staff are so welcoming and pleasant and anything you want they are there to see to your needs. Really well worth a visit.

First time visiting in Sheffield crystal peaks. We arrived just after 6pm on Friday and had a very warm welcome, all the staff welcomed us, we ordered our food and drinks. A lovely young lad bought our wine over and he was really chatty. We didn’t catch his name. Food was delicious and amazing value we were very impressed. Pauline checked on us throughout our visit, a great asset to your team. Thank you all.

What a terrible evening we had here. The restaurant was mostly empty, but luckily this didn't get in the way of staff providing exceptionally poor service. Dirty glassware, 30 minute wait to take our food order, had to send the cloudy flat lager back, 10 minute wait between our main meals being served and the sides coming out, no checkback on the quality of the food, no further drinks orders taken, and no plates cleared from the table. I feel so sorry for the young servers at this restaurant, who have been poorly let down by the management of the establishment; they clearly provide minimum training in food and beverage service standards. A truly disappointing experience.

Taken here as a birthday "treat" and felt so bad that anyone had to pay 🫣. Service was shocking, food was even worse, and the cleanliness needs a huge overlook - from lipstick stained glass all the way through to 🤢 toilets (all 3 of them). Def never be back again.

I have been in a fair few Papas restaurants that are dotted about the UK, and whilst this one is not the worst it is far from the best either. Our server took absolutely ages to get to us to take our drink order, and then when they came my coffee didn't appear ! It then took a further 20 mins for our food order to be taken, as to why who knows as there were only 3 other tables occupied ! Our food eventually arrived and we then had to ask a further two times for our sides to be brought out, and again I had to ask for my coffee ! The Fish was of good quality and cooked well but the chips were over cooked and dry. All in all not great, would I return to this particular restaurant? Sorry but no

First time at Papa's... It won't be our last! We were warned that, having arrived shortly after a largeish party, our food might take longer than usual. Unfortunately, we ended up being served our food after 2 other tables who had arrived after us... Our food was worth the wait - everything was absolutely delicious! Very fair prices. Highly recommended.

Where to start. Without using expletives it was very, very, very poor. No papa specials - two large fish 'stuck' together. If they had told us, they could have kept them separate. I know it sounds needy but we also asked for the fish to be skinned and they didn't. Peas were solid and devoid of moisture. Chips over done. They had no lemon. Can't beat a wedge of lemon and how does a fish restaurant run out of lemon. They offered us a free drink and as we had more than one they discounted the cheapest ones. Like I said overall very, very, very poor, won't be returning. Wish we went to whitbys down the road. Even if we went to say cleethorpes probably go to steels or ocean fish bar, it has put us off that much.

Called in for lunch the other day as I am a massive fan of Papa's, but i had never been to this restaurant before. Ate in, and there were plenty of tables available. I was seated straight away and the server attentively took my order. Mentioned another restaurant and she used to work there so had a chat about the whole chain etc. Food came freshly cooked and piping hot. Tasted fantastic and will definitely be going again. Special mention has to go to Lisa and Pauline as they were fantastic hosts and an absolute credit to Papas. Can't wait to eat there again.

Fish was lovely as were the mushy peas.Pots of tea were lovely and hot. Chips not so good every 3rd one seemed undercooked 😔. The ladies who served us were very good and pleasant 😀. They gave us a complimentary desert. No need to as we still enjoyed our food and just left the chips.

Absolutly avoid!! 35 mins seated before having to ask them to take our order. Ordered drinks and had to ask again For those drinks half an hour later. Half an hour after that the food came out with sausages missing, gravy not served. I also hind it astounding at such a prestigious name that you have to purchase your sides of curry or mushy peas and aren't part of the meal. Crazy. To be seated 2.5 hours One round of drinking and something to eat. An hour before drinks came and 45 mins later food. Had to stand in the drinks q to ask for the bill Had to ask for the table plates from the meal to be taken away so they had space for desert. Food ain't bad. It the manager sitting and eating her meal in a booth whilst working on her laptop, mushy peas provided for the manager I noticed. To the one girl that was switched on thank you If it was busy I'd understand but it wasn't busy at all. Never in a million years would I spend money at the papas chain again. Terrible.

A warm welcome from staff, especially Pauline whose attention was a very friendly, warm welcome & obliging. Genuine Atmosphere. Lovely food. Recommend the Fish, which comes as a very decent portion size, accompanied by homemade chips & mushy peas. Vegetarian options are available on quite an extensive menu, with plenty of choices. The place is spacious with good ventilation and one doesn't feel cramped. An Aternoon deal is available, & also a good deal is available for 60s & over. Parking is available, kid friendly. Highly Recommended!

First time today had the 2 course special,very nice haddock crispy and well cooked chips,and jam sponge and custard good value and great service with smile. I just wished they did cod but still very pleased with everything. Sam and the girls so helpful. We’ll be back.
