Papas Fish & Chips Crystal Peaks in Sheffield

I have been in a fair few Papas restaurants that are dotted about the UK, and whilst this one is not the worst it is far from the best either. Our server took absolutely ages to get to us to take our drink order, and then when they came my coffee didn't appear ! It then took a further 20 mins for our food order to be taken, as to why who knows as there were only 3 other tables occupied ! Our food eventually arrived and we then had to ask a further two times for our sides to be brought out, and again I had to ask for my coffee ! The Fish was of good quality and cooked well but the chips were over cooked and dry. All in all not great, would I return to this particular restaurant? Sorry but no

Great food. Excellent and friendly service by Pauline and Sam.

Where to start. Without using expletives it was very, very, very poor. No papa specials - two large fish 'stuck' together. If they had told us, they could have kept them separate. I know it sounds needy but we also asked for the fish to be skinned and they didn't. Peas were solid and devoid of moisture. Chips over done. They had no lemon. Can't beat a wedge of lemon and how does a fish restaurant run out of lemon. They offered us a free drink and as we had more than one they discounted the cheapest ones. Like I said overall very, very, very poor, won't be returning. Wish we went to whitbys down the road. Even if we went to say cleethorpes probably go to steels or ocean fish bar, it has put us off that much.

First time at Papa's... It won't be our last! We were warned that, having arrived shortly after a largeish party, our food might take longer than usual. Unfortunately, we ended up being served our food after 2 other tables who had arrived after us... Our food was worth the wait - everything was absolutely delicious! Very fair prices. Highly recommended.

Called in for lunch the other day as I am a massive fan of Papa's, but i had never been to this restaurant before. Ate in, and there were plenty of tables available. I was seated straight away and the server attentively took my order. Mentioned another restaurant and she used to work there so had a chat about the whole chain etc. Food came freshly cooked and piping hot. Tasted fantastic and will definitely be going again. Special mention has to go to Lisa and Pauline as they were fantastic hosts and an absolute credit to Papas. Can't wait to eat there again.

Fish was lovely as were the mushy peas.Pots of tea were lovely and hot. Chips not so good every 3rd one seemed undercooked 😔. The ladies who served us were very good and pleasant 😀. They gave us a complimentary desert. No need to as we still enjoyed our food and just left the chips.

Absolutly avoid!! 35 mins seated before having to ask them to take our order. Ordered drinks and had to ask again For those drinks half an hour later. Half an hour after that the food came out with sausages missing, gravy not served. I also hind it astounding at such a prestigious name that you have to purchase your sides of curry or mushy peas and aren't part of the meal. Crazy. To be seated 2.5 hours One round of drinking and something to eat. An hour before drinks came and 45 mins later food. Had to stand in the drinks q to ask for the bill Had to ask for the table plates from the meal to be taken away so they had space for desert. Food ain't bad. It the manager sitting and eating her meal in a booth whilst working on her laptop, mushy peas provided for the manager I noticed. To the one girl that was switched on thank you If it was busy I'd understand but it wasn't busy at all. Never in a million years would I spend money at the papas chain again. Terrible.

First time today had the 2 course special,very nice haddock crispy and well cooked chips,and jam sponge and custard good value and great service with smile. I just wished they did cod but still very pleased with everything. Sam and the girls so helpful. We’ll be back.

A warm welcome from staff, especially Pauline whose attention was a very friendly, warm welcome & obliging. Genuine Atmosphere. Lovely food. Recommend the Fish, which comes as a very decent portion size, accompanied by homemade chips & mushy peas. Vegetarian options are available on quite an extensive menu, with plenty of choices. The place is spacious with good ventilation and one doesn't feel cramped. An Aternoon deal is available, & also a good deal is available for 60s & over. Parking is available, kid friendly. Highly Recommended!

One of the best fish and chips I have ever had could not eat all the chips, so I warmed them up later in the airfryer and had chip butties for my tea would highly recommend

Went based on a recommendation, but was well worth it! Their fried halloumi was amazing and Pauline service made it a great experience.

Consistently poor. This particular visit was will be the last. Called to book as we had family visiting who wanted to try, we were told they’d have to check if they could get us in and would email to confirm. We never got an email so decided to try our luck, got there at the requested booking time to find we were the only people there. So not sure why they couldn’t confirm for us 2 days before. Despite being the only 6 customers and only table in the place the service was terrible. Waited 10 minutes for our drinks, which we could see sat on the bar while the staff disappeared. 2 out of the 6 drinks were wrong. Incorrect information given about menu items when ordering. Food was ok, but is overpriced for what it is. Salad stale and clearly out of a bag. The toilets were foul, 1 not working, 1 no toilet roll and 1 full to the brim of used tissues. According to the log on the door they hadn’t been checked since the evening before. The floor in the toilets was like an ice rink, we wouldn’t let our elderly grandmother go in it was that bad, I dunno if they polish it with oil but my god it was treacherous. You’re better off going to a local chippy.

Sparkly clean and inviting, the welcome and service we received from Pauline (manager) was brilliant, Pauline couldn't do enough for us, and because our elderly father couldn't manage his sweet which was included, she boxed one up for him to take home. The meals we had were delicious, I would highly recommend 😋

Purchased from the takeaway section, everything was freshly cooked so it was hot and very tasty. Certainly visit again.

First time I've visited today, and I won't be coming back. The food wasn't that nice. The chips were like rubber, and not fresh, the fish was OK but nothing special, and my guts don't feel the best after eating here. There was no atmosphere, they mixed up our orders so we had to be refunded for oart of our order, and had also run out of salad. We had to wait at least 30 minutes for our food when the place only had 5 tables taken up. This really isn't a place I would recommend.

Went for 1st time, had a great time eating great food with family. Service was great and fast. My only criticism would would the price, it seemed a little pricey but really enjoyed the experience. Special thanks to general manager Sam for making our experience so enjoyable.

OML it was Awful.. Service shocking took ages.... The fish and chips were AWFUL far too many chips to make the meal look large, the fish was really thin and the SKIN😮 still on pleaseeee thats a big nooooo. Really don't know who voted for this chippy but they obviously dont know good F n Ch......First time there and the last🤮🤮🤮🤮will stick with Tonys

Beautiful restaurant, and fabulous staff, Pauline went out of her way to ensure everytime was perfect for us from ensuring our seating was appropriate for my disabilities to ensuring all staff where made aware of my allergies! Would 100% visit again!

It's a great place to come for a meal fish and chips and some more dishes with a warm welcome friendly staff and good value for your money and a good drinks food is cooked just right and tasty and recommend and will use again

I'm not sure why this place isn't busier, it's a gem. Great value food, especially the variety mix and the staff like Ellie are always very friendly.

Two people waited 50 minutes for there order,and rest of group were finished there meals. Asked for refund and to see a manager and our server (dressed as a Christmas pudding) was sent back to say as we have food no refund and manager would not come and see us. Needless to say we won't be back again.🤬🤬🤬

My sister and I had the 2 course pensioner special meal. It was faultless - all the food was served very hot, it was nicely cooked, the servings were large and tasted good. Service was excellent and Pauline and Sam looked after us very well. I would definitely go back again and highly recommend it.

Friendly fast service, beautifully cooked fish. Nice to see young staff, who are polite and chatty. Abi was professional and enthusiastic, she was also knowledgeable about dietary requirements.

Went on a Monday after doing some late shopping. The food was fantastic, arrived relatively quick but tasted spot on. Portions are extremely good value for money. Pauline served us, she sat us, had our order took and brought out in what felt like seconds. We would like to thank her for enthusiasm.

Visited on the coldest day of the year so far & it was freezing inside as well everyone sat with coats. We only learnt the heating was broke on our way out, why not inform people on entry . Ordered our food & asked for a Yorkshire fish cake, waited over 40 minutes & when the food arrived they brought me what I would call a rissole x 2. I told the guy who appeared to be running the place he said we will put you one in but will take sometime, I said not to bother the rissole was horrid & I left most of the food.Our plates were collected & I said I hadn't enjoyed it as I didn't order it. About 5 minutes later he came out with a Yorkshire fish cake on a plate & offered to box it up to take home. I declined but when paying I was asked if everything was ok & I repeated what I had said not expecting to pay for my order but apparently they can not take it off or should I say wouldn't. Will not be visiting again & I recommend going to wetherspoons for much better service, nice & warm & value for money. This place will be shut in 6 months if they don't get their act together. Poor service all round.

We were served by Pauline (manager) She provided excellent and friendly service. Not to mention the barman who was pleasant and funny (jokey). We called in while out shopping on spec to try it as first visit. We found a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. And the food was fantastic. Had cod and chips and it was hung over the plate.!!!

I am gluten intolerant but was very ill after eating small haddock. It didn't look or taste like gluten free batter. Not much fish in it either. The lettuce was all brown round edges and didn't look fresh or taste fresh. Will never go back.

We love this place ; admittedly as pensioners with smaller appetites we tend to go for the seniors menu , but we’ve had the other meals too and my lass likes the tea and I think the Aspall cider is great . Nice service too and a good fish tank for the kids. Pauline the manageress and the person working the bar counter were very nice too and we even like the background music .

Went for lunch last week at Papa’s Crystal Peaks, our first time in this Papas, and I have literally never had such incredible service in a restaurant before. From the moment we arrived the manager Sam greeted us enthusiastically, let us find the perfect table (taking into account our toddler and what would be best for him), and took our order quickly so the food could arrive asap. Midway through the meal a wonderful young lady called Chloe came over to check on our food and was so friendly and fun to talk to, we had a chat about being from the same area and shared an enthusiasm for chip spice! Towards the end as we got ready to leave we got chatting to another lovely person called Abi who went out of her way to compliment my hairstyle and engage us in conversation around the different Papas dotted around the country, she really boosted my spirits. On the way out Sam took the time to show my toddler the fish tank and point out the turtle named Teddy which he was thrilled about. The food was fantastic, amazing chips (which is rare in a restaurant trying to serve chippy style chips I find) and such a delicious authentic Hull pattie, and the restaurant décor felt very high end and classy. Nice and spacious so even with lots of other guests around it felt like we had some space and privacy. I know how tiring waiting tables is and dealing with the public on your feet all day so I was truly taken aback by the effort, energy and enthusiasm every single staff member showed in making our visit special. We would have loved to tip but unfortunately couldn’t via card so I wanted to leave a review instead to express our appreciation for the friendliest, most efficient, delicious, promptly-served meal we’ve had in long while. Thank you Papas Crystal Peaks, the best Papas by a country mile!

Disappointed over all , food cooked and well presented but cold plates meant food was also cooled too rapidly . Fish (Haddock) had little flavour and had little or no distinction and bland . Chips looked unappetising and varied in their size from large to very tiny and luke warm over all due to cold plates . But what spoiled it over all was the room temperature was far too cold and uncomfortable. The service is friendly and attentive ..prices are fair .

Used the takeaway side for the firdt time today, stood not knowing what I wanted or what to do and was greeted by 2 young ladies named Abi and Ellie, couldn't have been better. Abi started Talking me through the options and what you get with it and Ellie was straight on to take the order once I knew what I was doing. I even told them how great it is to have someone be right into the customer service and recognise when someone needs extra assistance. Food was beautiful, good size portions and quick once ordered.

Pauline and all the staff were very friendly and super helpful. They immediately greeted us and made sure that everything was fine constantly. The whole restaurant was very clean and the food was really good.

Sadly this week's cooks got it wrong. Batter undercooked leaving the Haddock slimy and partially raw. Sad really as the fish is usually very good. I'll give you one more chance then move on again. I don't like wasting £40

Took my 93 year old father for lunch he had the pensioners special small haddock and chips plenty enough for him plus chocolate sponge pudding and custard the food was served promptly and we were looked after by Pauline a very friendly member of staff a nice meal for the price and would visit again plenty of car park space and we could choose our table as it was not too busy or noisy

Visited Papa’s fish and chip restaurant near Crystal Peaks today. Absolutely fantastic meal got to be the best I’ve ever had absolutely delicious. We were met and served by Sam he was a brilliant guy made us feel very welcome. Couldn’t do enough for us. He’s one very nice welcoming friendly guy. And must say too that the restaurant is one very plush place beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean definitely 5 star rating.

Bought a takeaway on a Saturday afternoon. Ironically (given sheffield is far from the sea) this was one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Incredibly tasty. Abi in the takeaway was a great representative of the company, 10/10 service and so helpful. I really hope managers acknowledge her value to the company. Will be coming back soon !

Lovely, friendly, helpful staff (Pauline and Audrey). Fish and chips were delicious, hot and plentyful. We had the OAP meal and upgraded but needn't have. Portions are a good size and resonably priced. Venue is light and bright and room between tables to move about. Everything was perfect would definitely recommend.

Don’t you just hate the fact that, when you fancy something all week, you come to a meant to be decent chippy and it’s absolutely horrible! My 6 year old could do better! Chip butty with gravy and a battered sausage, bread cake was at least a week old! Chips rock hard not fresh and also the battered sausage -10 you pay for what you get! But in this case it wasn’t!!

Well what can i say me and my friend have just been to have lunch at Papas Crystal Peaks. What fantastic service. So friendly and as my friend is Gluten Intolerant they more than obliged with explaining about things they provide. The meal was excellent so tasty. Really enjoyed our afternoon. Cannot praise enough. Will be back.

Had a lovely family lunch here today. The food was fantastic freshly cooked and a lot of it. The staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. Pauline especially was so lovely she made us feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely visit again.

Pauline welcomed us for our first time at Papas. Food is excellent traditional fish and chips but also other foods on menu as other options. The venue clean and airy. Busy most evenings but you can book in advance Staff nice and friendly.

The servers were absolutely amazing but the manager needs to learn how to manage. His attitude towards his staff were atrocious he was having a go at them in the dining area in ear shot of myself and my husband.. We left the kids at home to be placed with this one. call yourself a manager I was really upset I had to witness this behaviour. Now what can I say about the food.. Well the fish was nice the curry sauce is amazing but the Yorkshire fishcake were a little underdone as the potato was a little thick and hard.

We went to papa's takeaway. We were served by two young ladies called abi and Ellie these two young employee's are a brilliant example of outstanding customer service. They even offered to carry our order to the car and held the door open with us both been disabled..They also had Halloween customs on which was lovely to see staff members getting into the Halloween season. Can't wait to see their dress up for Christmas. They were also handing sweets out as well which is a great touch for families with children. The fish and chips. are well worth a trip. The cod had a crispy batter with large chunks of white steaming Cod. The chips are crispy and firm on the outside but soft and fluffy potatoe on the inside. Peas are perfectly seasoned and are cooked well and nice and thick the perfect side for your fish and chips. They do all different sizes and their portions are very generous. We had the medium special and there was more then enough to fill hungry tummies. The restaurant and the takeaway look very clean and there is also plenty of places to park. The welcome we got from Abi and Ellie was such a pleasant change. Even if your having a bad day they will have you smiling. So refreshing to meet two young people that are going out of their way for their customers. Many companies could learn a thing or two about customer services from these young ladies. Thank you for cheering us up and our lovely meal. Looking forward to our next trip.

We came to papas fish and chips for a birthday as a family of ten and was very happy with the service and the food was amazing all the plates were cleared our server abi and lily Ellie and audra was very attentive and gave us the best service thank you guys will be back soon

The only negative I had was that the restaurant was a little cold when we visited. I had to go back out to my car to get my jumper. Apart from that it was great. Our first visit at the beginning of the year left a lot to be desired and I wasn't in a rush to return. At all! After the food and service we got last week I will definitely return. Sam is a credit to the business. Attentive without being irritating and couldn't do enough for us. It makes a real difference as a customer when the staff are happy and enjoying their work rather than just taking it in their stride. Thankyou for a great experience 🙂

We called in to Papas for evening dinner, we were greeted by a wonderful friendly lady, Pauline, who gave us a choice of where to sit and explained table service. Throughout the evening the staff were polite, welcoming, friendly and helpful. The meal was beautiful, after our meal we were not rush and we were able to relax whilst we finished our drinks. I called for take away fishcake and chips. Unfortunately, when I got back to where I was staying, I found the fishcake undercooked, the potato was not cooked through, and the chips had been microwaved to reheat them. Very, very disappointed

Love this place. It has it all. Fab tasting food, friendly staff and a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. We have been going here since the place opened and never had a bad meal. Absolutely Shocking Food. Another business that’s going to blame the economy for its failings. How very sad indeed. The fish was rotten. Chips, well inedible” Wow! A newly opened site making food like this. I wouldn’t recommend going to this place for Fish & Chips. The young lad looked like he just didn’t want to be there at all. Bones in the fish and fish cakes, gray fish” and thick greasy dark gray skin on the fish. Very disappointing, I strongly suggest the business owner gets involved with this site as your staff and management are going to lose you your investment, and above all your name.

After ordering, we were informed one of our meals was out of stock (quickly rectified), then the starter arrived very quickly BUT then after finishing we then sat for what seemed so long that I had to prompt a staff about our meals. From then on we could not fault the service we received from Pauline & Amarnia ( hopefully spelt correctly). So even though the meal out started with a few hiccups it ended successfully. The one thing we couldn't fault from start to finish was the food. But Pauline & Amarnia should be commended on how they dealt with the problems
