Papa Charlie in Greenwich

I don't think there is such thing as service at this place at all. I would love to tell you how the food was but waited 2 hours and decided to leave and just pay for the drinks ( hungry children !!) No atmosphere really peeling walls and ceilings. Nothing there I liked and hated everything.

Su crema de calabaza es única deliciosa. Todos sus platillos son Únicos y todos muy recomendables. A mi en especial me encanta el cuscús con verduras Y el pollo al vino blanco.

Lazy service, lazy food. No kids menu, staff disinterested. Restaraunt stunk of the toilets. should have realised when everywhere else was rammed except this place. Don't expect to see it still open next time in Greenwich unless there is a change of management, waiting staff and chef.

We had already been refused by a nearby restaurant. Our daughter needs food to be blended as she suffers from cerebral palsy. When we asked if this was possible the proprietor was so kind and generous and could not have been more helpful. He blended food and was so attentive to our needs. He did not make us feel like we were being a trouble to him and we really enjoyed our visit to his restaurant. This is a family run restaurant and it is warm and welcoming. We had a great time. I wish there were more places like this and more kind and generous restauranteurs. We were made feel very welcome . Please pay it a visit... you will enjoy it.🌟🌟🌟🌟

Unbelievably awful. Spaghetti carbonara was the worst ever and my fish was burnt. Service was casual at best.

El servicio correcto, gente amable y servicial, muy bien situado frente al mercado de Greenwich, cominos de menu y todo ha sido correcto, simplemente correcto. No es de los que dices tengo que volver.

Long wait for food. Came with a young toddler and only got his food towards the end. Tastes bland, and £14.95 for a glass of house red is really pushing it. On top of poor service, you had to pay the staff 12.5%.

We were in for an early evening dinner. Location is on the High Street. Layout is busy but not congested. Greeting was warm and friendly, we chose our own table. Menu is lite but more than acceptable for other than the most discerning diner. Service was efficient and friendly our first time in but treated like a regular. Food was well presented, cooked and decent quantity. Price was perhaps a little on the high side.

De passage à Greenwich, nous nous sommes arrêtés à ce restaurant au hasard. Les repas pour enfants sont gratuits en août, et sont tout à fait corrects. Les viandes sont tres bonnes et cuites parfaitement comme demandées. Bon rapport qualité prix. Service agréable.

Nous avons découvert ce restaurant par hasard, car les pubs voisins n'accueillaient pas les enfants après 20h. Décor très kitsch mais propre. Nourriture classique en bonnes proportions. Très bon accueil et rapidité de service ! Une bonne adresse, avec les enfants !

First impressions seemed good, a large busy establishment with very few tables free. The staff were welcoming and sat us down quickly. Unfortunately the table was quite dirty and we had to ask for it to be cleaned and other tables where people had finished their meal weren't cleaned away for a while. We ordered drinks, starters and mains. The drinks came quickly, followed by the starters - Hummus and olives with bread. Was a great light starter for us both, full of flavour and wasn't too small nor too large. We then waited 40 minutes for our main. It was obvious that the staff were very short (1 in the kitchen, 2 on the floor) for a busy and sunny Sunday, and couldn't cope with the amount of people in the restaurant. I saw the young of the waitresses clean a wet spot on a table wiht a napkin, and then leave it there for the next customers, with the knife and fork laid atop of it. Once the food had arrived, it was bland, small sized portions and wasn't very fresh. We were not the only ones with this issue with several other tables waiting very long for food only to have something a bit dreary laid in front of them. Someone had spaghetti bolognese, and it was clear the pasta wasn't drained properly but the way it was all swimming. Another lady had a lamb and rice dish, with the rice looking very plain and boring and every so small portions. The menu had no real identity taking food from a wide array of cultures. There was a man wandering in and out of the establishment, who I presume is the owner by his audacious attire, who obviously had no clue what was going on in the kitchen and lives in a fairy land. The staff are undertrained and clueless (one waitresses was on her third day and had no idea of what drinks were on offer or if dishes were in stock), the hygeine is questionable and the food was poor. I would stay clear of this place and search for a different restaurant, or at the weekends visit the food market across the road.

Needed somewhere quick to eat in Greenwich before the comedy festival last week and so came here by chance. Food was not bad but felt it was a bit expensive for what it was and also thought the 12.5% service charge was a bit cheeky. Not bad but would probably try somewhere else if eating in Greenwich soon. Good variety of food on the menu though.

Papa Charlie was lovely, right in middle of Greenwich. The hosts were so friendly and always laughing. We had a table in window and visited with friends from Australia. Whilst we did not have a full meal, what we had was absolutely delicious and well presented. True value for money. And we were all had a lollipop at end of meal which caused a great deal of laughter. Beer and wine great. If you are visiting Greenwich then I can recommend this restaurant - whether for snacks or full meal. I was suprised to read the negative comments but every day is different. I can only say how it was on our visit. Our visitors were pleased and so were we.

Absoluty appalling place. Very slow service, wrong drinks brought (but they turned up on the extortinate bill later, even though we hadn't ordered them). Food that has clearly been cooked goodness knows how long ago in a giant batch, frozen and re heated. The pasta tasted like tinned spaghetti, the burger was like a piece of plastic and the ravioli tasted like cardboard in tinned tomato soup. 12.5% tip was added to the bill (£11!!) And the bill was over £100 for 6 of us to have cheap, revolting food served to us slowly and badly. The red wine arrived in a white wine cooler. I will never go back.

Waitress took our order, then delivered it to the table next to us. They complained the order was wrong, but were told they were wrong. Our order was wrong, but waitress said, "no, it's correct". So we ate Tika Masala chicken and fish and chips, while the next table ate Piri-Piri chicken and grilled sea bass. Denied the mistake to the end.

We stopped by Papa Charlie at about 21:00 on a Friday night, the place seemed quiet which made us a little hesitant, but we decided to go in anyway... I wish we hadn't!The staff were very friendly, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this place. The food was very much what I'd expect from a greasy cafe, but much more expensive. Very poor quality food, I'd recommend going to the Gipsy Moth a bit further down the road.

Came in for a quick evening meal after our first visit to Greenwich. Chicken Fajitas were really good, and Piri Piri also great

Went with friend for couple drinks and nibbles. Happy hour for coctails.we had 2 each- coctails not so bad but didn't make as a proper way. Waiter smiley and kind, but without knowledge about menu. When i was ordering he was looking at the menu to check what we want. But he was trying to take care of us - cant complain about him. I had hallumi and garlic bread with cheese and bruschetta. Hallumi from the fryer not from pan! Garlic bread with tone of cheese. I coudnt bite! Bruschetta with kilo of cherry tomatoes on the 4 pices of baquette. I coudnt imagine that this kind of place can exist. How they manage i dont have any idea. They had 4 tables yesterday and all had a coctails. Happy hours is till 9.30. Very cheap place, working not professional. I should check reviews before i went yesterday.

Family of four visit for lunch.We ordered drinks, starters and main. Waited 15mins for drinks to arrive and then only be told they didn't have one of the drinks.A bruschetta starter came out on a cheap toasted burger bun. After finishing the starters am told they don't have one of the special mains available. Requested a lamb shish instead.Asked for no topping/sauce on one of the burgers. Comes out with all the 'works' on.The requested lamb shish comes out as a chicken and lamb. More lamb was cooked up to go with the meal, but by this point we had all finished. Waited forever to get the bill and for quality of what you get and the terrible service this place is completely over priced.Do yourself a favour and avoid at all costs.

Well our first meal in England ever and the worst meal in years. I had the spaghetti bolagnaise. Oh dear. Would have been better from a can. No flavour at all. My wife had nacho chips because she is gluten free and was told the chips were corn chips. Which it appears they were. In fact they were right out of a bag of Doritos including the fake spices. The guacamole was straight from a can and inedible. My wife took two bites and called it a day. I managed half my spaghetti but refused to finish it. Not a bad glass of red house wine though. Don't waste your time or money here. Our first clue should have been no customers but us.

I visited this restaurant with my parents and fiancé. We were warned on entering that it would be a 20 minute wait for food. This seemed fine so we took a table. The restaurant was half empty at the time. We ordered drinks and after 20 minutes we asked if we could order our starters but the waitress said that she could not take orders yet as the chef would be angry with her. We didn't understand and asked for how long it would be before she could take our order. She tentatively walked up to the kitchen and came back saying she could take the order but it would be a long wait for food. After a long long wait she offered us a round of drinks on the house. Eventually we got our starters. I am usually very easy to please but the food was pretty tasteless and was of a pretty poor standard. My main was fajitas that were pretty tasteless and didn't come with the correct garnishes (no sour cream or salsa just a lot of guacamole). My starter of nachos again had no salsa or sour cream. I don't know how you can get nachos wrong...but they did.Many customers were complaining loudly. I felt very sorry for my waitress who was lovely and tried her best to provide a good service. I felt it was ruined by the owner/chef who had the rest of the staff too scared to take orders and providing terrible food after ridiculous waiting times. Also the waiting staff do not receive any tips you leave!

We sat there for 2 hours waiting to be served, only for them to tell us they had run out of pasta, the night before the marathon. Absolutely awful, felt sorry for the staff who were running a shambles.

Waited over an hour for starter. Disgraceful. The place wasn't even full. But strangely everyone else seemed to be waiting for their food so i have no idea who they were actually serving. So many other options nearby, avoid this one.

A weekend in Greenwich, saw this little place, peeped in the windows, looks good.So wife and I went in, sat by the window, staff fast to get you settled, then gave you time to ponder the menu...Order taken....Service was prompt, drinks and food on the table in no time...A nice environment to sit and chill with a glass of wine, or have a meal. Staff very friendly, worked hard. Would I return...yes I would....but in the evening .

Informal eatery with wooden tables and chairs, well stocked bar. Food was very good, we ate the calamari, fajitas, lamb stew and steak. All were good and the steak was cooked to perfection

Just waited 1 hour 15 minutes for our starter to arrive. Absolutely appalling service and food. No acknowledgement or apology from the staff. Avoid.

From the outside looks good and having been in before under different names or company really is a place for growth..Well, it hasn't grown at all and is fast going downhill. Bottle of Shiraz was cold. Cold red wine? Anyway, the starters were with us within 5 minutes so make of that what you will.Once finished the mains were a wizzy 1 minute away... I had a mixed grill... Was it cooked and waiting in the oven for the nod?Both myself and wife didn't finish our mains as everything tasted of the same oil.There were 3 waitresses, 2 seemed local whom couldn't be bothered to do anything. The waitress who did serve us was really nice and helpful, she probably had an attachment with the place.All in all, if hungry find somewhere else until it has new management.So much potential so little effort given

We've been only once and not planning to go again. The waffle dessert was not impressive: the kind they take out of package and warm up. Had cinnamon, not mentioned in the menu. I asked for plain waffle, only ice cream and chocolate sauce, and got golden syrup as well. The waffle was soaked in it.It was a busy time of day, other restaurants were packed (that's why we ended up here) , but there was only one more table busy at this one. The staff were ok, quite nice. It was actually a shame that such a nice waitress was being wasted in a place like that. 12.5% of service charge was added to the bill (only 2 of us) . I wasn't impressed by that. Overall, I wouldn't recommend after this visit.

Una caratteristica del locale è la presenza nel menù di piatti di origine multietnica. Pietanze messicane, peruviane, spagnole ben preparate e a buon prezzo. Personale molto gentile.

We arrived hungry for food, had to wait 15min untill someone wanted to take our drink orders, The waiter was supprised we wanted to order food at the same time. Then 10min wait for the drinks another 15 for the food. If someone orders Coca cola, and you dont have it, just say it, dont serve me pepsi or whatever you have. Its not good service. And when someone empties their drink and want to order a new one, its just good service to come by the table and take more orders. The food was ok-, Nothing to brag about, but alteast it was cheap.The less than good expericen was rounded off with the bill saying Service charge 12,5%. If you need to force add the tip onto the bill to recive any, you clearly do a bad job. And you did a bad job.

Surprised as this being the first time I've been to this restaurant, found the food to be very pleasant and I really enjoyed my steak. Staff were very friendly!

I was at papas last Saturday,the same night that the birthday party was taken placeIgnore the bad comments made by them.this crowd were complaining from the minute they walked in,they were loud and the head of the party would get up every minute and walk about in the restaurant and moan to the staff.from the music,the tempeture in the room,the drinks,service ,and food. At the end they maneged to get a free birthday party.shame....

I have been to this restaurant today with my daughter and mother in law for lunch and had the 2 course set menu.My mother in law is gluten intolerant, the staff when asked didn't have a clue as to what this involves (no wheat). We based our ordering decision on hope rather than conviction that the dishes would be suitable. This was a mistake.The order was for garlic mushrooms (came swimming in oil with bits of burnt food included). And sea bass with chips.I myself ordered calamari (tasteless) and cheese burger with chips (burger was like something you would be served at a fun fair). One hour after our lunch my mother in law has been violently sick and had a terrible stomach upset. With out a doubt this is to do with the sub standard food served to us. We should have trusted our instincts when we first arrived and left, rather than being the polite family we are and feeling guilty at leaving a restaurant once seated.Unlike some other reviews, the service was very fast (is that a good thing?), there was however only our table and one other. My final thoughts are that there are plenty of restaurants in Greenwich of a much much higher standing, don't be drawn into this one.

Service not bad, plenty of smiles. Only one other customer when we arrived. To create a bit of an atmosphere, Spanish music was being played but was quite load and really grated after a while - the staff were obviously enjoying it however. My partner thought her burger was very good, but, my spagbog was seriously awful. It had a fairly thick brown sauce the strongest taste detected was parmesan - not a hint of tomato, for instance. The colouring was dubious and totally unappertising, to say the least!! I didn't get anywhere near finishing my food. My partner can't remember the last time I didn't finish a meal!!Not cheap. Certainly wouldn't go again, there are plenty of other places all around Greenwich to spend your hard earned money.

I had a table booked for a party of about 15 we got there everything seemed to be ok, ordered drinks tasted like water so sent them back ordered food that we did not get for an hour and a half. My sister ordered chicken fajitas and got 2 cubes of chicken sent back and got more chicken about 45 minutes later when her rice and wraps was cold and hard but they didn't care! My dads burger was swimming in oil it was horrible!! We had a 2 years old with us and like any other restaurant they get there food first with the appetisers well he didn't get anything at all they was brought it out last so we sent it back! They brought food out that we didn't order and added it to our bill! To top it off my grandad didn't even get he's food they brought it over after they had gave us our bill!! So he waiting 2 and a half hours for he's food! They blamed it all on short staffed but we booked 2 weeks in advance for a big party! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to a dog the food is watery oily and horrible and the customer service is terrible! I felt sorry for the waitress she was so embarrassed about it all! NEVER go here

Was there tonight for a surprise birthday meal and it was terrible,horrendous & utterly horrible would never go again nor recommend it to anyone. Everything was wrong with the meal. Although we were a big group of people and we were quite demanding the staff should've put more effort and care into the service and food they gave. We pre-booked in advance and they should've known that they needed more staff to cater such a big group. 1. We got there at 7:30 and ordered at 8:00 we didn't get our food until 9:20 2.The majority of the meals had something wrong with it- hair was in one-they messed up orders-they were oily-had no taste-were cold-didn't contain the simple parts of a meal (ordered 3 pork chops and only got 2)-took forever3.the drinks tasted watery and not like The ones we ordered (Coke & lemonade) we even sent them back and they tasted exactly the same.Never go to this restaurant nor work at it.

We namen fajita's en ribbetjes. De ribbetjes waren echt niet lekker, de frietjes niet uitgebakken.De fajita's waren zeer eenvoudig, wel lekker. De wijn was echt niet lekker. Als we dan onze rekening kregen, was het even slikken. Restaurantrekening voor snackbar-eten.

Greenwich is full of restaurants, but this is one of my favourites. The menu is varied, the service is excellent, and the surroundings are pleasant. Today there was music but it wasn't loud or annoying. On weekdays there is a prix fixe menu which is good value.

When they say "" English breakfast "" they meen. Just that...Perfect,greaseless, well presented,and enough to keep you going for the morning.Me and 3 other frends visited for the first time this lovely place last Sunday.And glad we did,we are local and for sure we will be going back there.Greenwich needs a few more places like papa Charlie's..... Well done.....

Enjoyed a lovely dinner with our family. The service was exceptional, the staff were very friendly and made the evening that extra bit special. For starters we had the prawns dish, chicken, ribs and garlic bread, breathtaking. Our mains were even better, grilled chicken, pulled pork, 2 pasta dishes and chicken burger.... all absolutely Devine. Desserts were all mind blowingly good. Helena is most certainly the best cocktail queen I have ever seen and I have had my fair share of cocktails. In one word... Amaze-balls.

We been there Wednesday evening and everything was spot on. We had such a nice food and drink and service was also great,we will definitely come back and it was a nice price for a great service.

Potato skin (are the selling/recycling my potato do something else??) looked terrible. Small, my wife had to order it twice.Calamari, crispy but oily.Burger overcooked, frittes undercooked.Save your money, go somewhere else!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. 1 - We arrived and although the place was less that half full, it took nearly 20 minutes before the waitress came to us. 2 - We waited over and 40 minutes for drinks due to the bar man trying to fix the lift and apparently no one else in the restaurant knew how to make drinks.3 - The drinks order was wrong, when I challenged it I was told I was in the wrong and expected to drink my drink and be quiet. 4 - Food had still not arrived after and hour (The place by this point was almost empty) tables who had arrived after us had been served but it was as if we were forgotten. 5 - ONE plate of food turned up (There were 5 of us) This plate was cold, shoved on a plate and presentation was awful. 6 - 10 minutes later, 2 attempts at fajita dishes turned up BUT NO PLATES, WRAPS, ACCOMPANYING DISHES with them. These were also cold. 7- Waitress did not return but served more customers and welcomed more people into the restaurant even though we were still waiting for food. 8 - EVENTUALLY the remainder of the fajita dishes turned up as did the 4th dish - person number 5’s dish had not actually been communicated to the kitchen and they were left without food. 9 - Everyone was finished, plates had been cleared and the final member of our party had still not been fed, when her’s did arrive it was not as stated on the menu, clearly microwaved, over and under cooked (it was a mixed grill so a lot of meat meaning quite dangerous kitchen and hygiene practice)10 - Were charged a hell of a lot more than was expected, when calculated, a lot of extra money had been sneaked onto our bill?!?!At the end of this, we had very little by way of an apology, only the excuse they were understaffed. Absolutely disgusting. Should not be allowed to be opened.

We were in Greenwich and we wanted fish. This restaurant had delicious fish. It didn't look much from the outside but we checked the menu on the way past, and decided to try it. Excellent decision. Sea bass fillets as good as any Mediterranean offering, and a cajun salmon fillet on sizzling veg which was quite the best thing I've eaten out in months. Would heartily recommend this restaurant.

İ came with my misses here to try the food but main aim was to taste the cocktails,We ordered two fajitas and the timing was great, arrived in good time, the food was tasty but the portion was quite big, i would suggest a smaller cuts as there were quite big.İ loved the cocktails, amazing taste and great presentation, i would deffinatly say the best Pinacolada ever. Service was also good, young girl who was seving was decent, polite and she looked after us very well, İ would suggest everyone to give it a try.

As we wanted something different to eat we looked at other restaurants but decided on this one. The place was quite busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant was pleasantly decorated with ample lighting and space. We did have to wait for someone to take our order although we wasn't quite ready so they took the drinks order.My husband ordered steak with the trimmings and I had king prawn fajitas, both arrived in good time and we were both agreed the meals were good, however I had to ask for the tortillas as they had been forgotten, so I had already eaten some of the food before I had to attract the waiters attention to get the tortillas . This was the only downside to the meal, although the waiter asked if we wanted coffees free of charge for our inconvenience, we did decline this but at least there was a jesters of goodwill.i would go again and recommend it too.

After a long day on a training course, we were a party of 10 Greenwich novices in search of food. Keen to support local businesses vs one of the chains and without using Trip Advisor, we decided on Papa Charlie's. The service was friendly and we all thoroughly enjoyed sharing a range of really good starters and our main courses were very tasty and home cooked. Thank you to the staff for an enjoyable evening.

Siamo andati qui con la mia famiglia e devo dire che il personale è molto educato e professionale. Io ho preso un burger,mio papà un fish e chips e mia mamma l'agnello alla griglia con il riso. Il pesce era fresco e la frittura fatta al momento perché la pastella non era appiccicosa. Cosa buona . Il mio Burger era squisito. L'unica pecca che trovo ingiusto non lasciare il servizio a discrezione anche perché il 12% mi sembra un'esagerazione. Noi abbiamo comunque lasciato la mancia perché lo staff è stato gentilissimo. Senza il servizio avremmo lasciato di più ma pagare 6£ di servizio ci è sembrata un'esagerazione quindi abbiamo aggiunto solo 2£ nel dubbio che i ragazzi non prendessero il servizio. Come spesso succede nei ristoranti a londra. Senza servizio avremmo lasciato comunque 5£ su un conto di 59£!

Service rapide, fajitas excellentes et accueil chaleureux. Les enfants y trouvent aussi leurs menus et on leurs fourni de quoi ne pas trouver le temps long.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and great service with it. Food was served quick and the cocktail menu was great also. Would definitely visit here again.

Had a few driks there, they were amazing! You can't find anything like this anywhere around!we will definitely be back soon...

This is a terrible bar and restaurant!We had to wait 15 minutes for a drink and after that 90 minutes for the lunch.1 meal was missed.....I don't want to go back!!!

We were all so pleased to have chosen this restaurant, which faces Greenwich market. Everyone ordered something different; halloumi wrap (lots of halloumi), spicy cheese nachos and a veggie hot pot. I had an amazing margarita, one of the best I have drunk. The food was enjoyable and well presented, the restaurant clean, the staff attentive and helpful. We spoke to the Manager/Owner who advised he had taken over the restaurant some 3 weeks ago and he was planning to change the name - looking at some of the reviews before he took over I understand why. Our lunch was reasonably priced and we would definitely come back again.

I've been here just recently and was really pleased with my visit. The service was really nice, the staff was chatty and helpfull. During the visit I had a few cocktails with my meal, I have to say it's quite hard to find cocktails like this near by. Not saying they were perfect but worth coming back for. As my main I had a burger. When I ordered it I was expecting to get an 'eh' looking burger with maybe some salads dripping from the sides and fries soacked in oil. BUT my picture with the post i think speaks for it self and the taste met it's presentation. Overall a nice place to dine.

Salve . Sono stato in questo ristorante per la pasquetta del 6 Aprile 2015 insieme a un mio caro amico. Ci siamo seduti e nessuno veniva a chiederci nulla , abbiamo aspettato circa 20 minuti chiamando ripetutamente lo staff.Abbiamo finalmente preso le nostre ordinazioni e aspettando altri 30 minuti. Una ragazza dello staff ha verificato il nostro ordine e dopo 10 minuti finalmente è arrivato il nostro cibo. Il mio amico aveva ordinato il pollo della casa (vorrei premettere che il menu è scritto mezzo in Inglese e in Italiano non capisco il perche) e gli hanno portato del maiale sbagliando pure quello che aveva ordinato. Finalmente dopo altre spiegazioni hanno portato le giuste ordinazioni per ognuno, il cibo non era niente di speciale. Intanto il ristorante era semivuoto , e nei vari pochi tavoli si sentivono altri lamenti dei clienti e qualcuno si alzava e andava via pagando solo quello che gli era stato portato, una birra non finita e una bottiglia d'acqua.Alla fine per completare ci hanno portato lo scontrino in un pezzo di carta perche la cassa era rotta. Questo è uno dei peggiori ristoranti in cui sono stato.

I was afraid to go and try this place as it has so bad rating, but saw that the management had changed and also that the menu was not mediterranean cuisine but mexican food. Now I'm really happy with the decision I made as everything from service to food, plus the environment, was perfect. They received me politely and briefly introduced me the menu, sat me on a very comfortable place and my starter, a delicious garlic bread, was served promptly and very well presented. Also the main course was wonderful and served with a perfect timing. Didn't have pudding because unfortunately was to full for that. I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back soon.

We were told tonight (27th march 2015) was the opening night and I can confirm this is no longer a Mediterranean restaurant. However reading the earlier reviews it seems whilst the menu and staff may have changed the service and food remain appalling.Having been seated we were left waiting 20 minutes without even being asked if we wanted drinks.Entertainment was provided watching staff offer plates of food to numerous tables seemingly unaware who had ordered what.When our meals finally arrived they did nothing to redeem the situation.Initial impressions were poor as presentation of the neighbouring tables looked poor mash potatoes slumped in a liquid that accompanied fish of some sort and steak looked like a cat had thrown up pepper sauce on it all in all appearance seemed confined to throwing the food on a plate.The chicken skewers were warm and arrived with rice despite having distinctly ordered fries. Having changed the rice the plate returned with evident scrape marks where the rice had been removed and starch on the plate. The salad was dry and looked as if it had been pulled out of a supermarket ready bag.The fajitas were bland and far from sizzling wouldn't surpass any i could make courtesy of El Paso kits.The side dish was inedible guacamole had crusted over and the cheese had sweated where it had all been left uncovered in the hot kitchen.All in all only the masochistic would, having read any of these reviews, would ever dine here.Stay away!

I've been to this place twice now first time it was really nice, the second time it was the worst. The drinks were brought to the table warm, and we were told there would b a delay with the food. When our starters were brought to the table one was missing it was only then we were told they had run out. We then tried to order main courses but most of what we chose was not available at which point we decided not to eat here and left.

We each ordered from the lunch menu which had a selection of the main menu but 2 courses for a fixed price. The kids had Doritos, sorry nachos, with salsa. They were ok. I had minestrone soup which was obviously from a packet. The kids' pizza and cheeseburger and chips were ok. I ordered veg moussaka from the lunch menu which didn't come with the bits on the side as described in the main menu. First I got a mushroom pizza by mistake. Then sometime later I got the veg moussaka (not my abbreviation by the way!) which was bubbling on top but stone cold in the middle. I ate some but sent it back and didn't want a replacement as we had already been in there sometime and my children were restless. As I had to wait for my main course I did get a free drink to be fair. The waiting staff were polite and cheerful in what appeared to be chaos possibly due to being short staffed. The owner was in the restaurant sitting with her friends with constant hot and fresh food being delivered to her table. Will definitely not be back and would suggest people avoid this place which is a shame as it has potential. Also, the menu is very odd - it has Italian dishes and Turkish food. Does neither well unfortunately.

We arrived for a late lunch. It looked intriguing, with an eclectic menu and funky decor at first glance.We didn't suffer the understaffing problems other reviewers complained of; there were four serving staff for about eight occupied tables. That doesn't mean we received attentive service, though - they preferred to stand around doing nothing, and it proved remarkably hard to get their attention. When we finally did, we battled through the arduous process of giving an order to someone whose English was as poor as her knowledge of their menu.As we waited for the food, we studied the decor in more detail, and concluded that it was actually just odd. It's a mishmash of different styles, with modern lighting and glass in one part giving way to wonky gold-painted benches and topless sculptures in another. No, it didn't gel into something unique, it just felt indecisive.Fortunately, with the restaurant so empty, we didn't have to wait long for the food. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth waiting for at all. I had "garlic mushrooms", which were just fried mushrooms in tomato (!?) sauce, and a pizza that was burnt to a crisp and featured huge chunks of fatty off-cut ham. (You know, the type you find in huge bags at a discount supermarket.) We didn't finish either course.Can't say the automatically-added 10% service charge was earned, but we were too keen to leave to quibble. We certainly won't return!

This must be one of the worst establishments in London. Eight of us visited for a light meal. Firstly this dump describes itself as Mediterranean cuisine which it certainly is not.The staff are completely clueless and make an excellent job of standing around staring into thin air.Do not cross the threshold. This place could only be improved by being closed down!Rating of terrible is generous!

Early lunchtime and only half a dozen others eating. Very friendly and helpful waitress. Good value 2 course lunch - whitebait starter and spaghetti carbonara for £11.95. I'd decided to go for a couple of dishes which it should be easy to get right - whitebait was ok but a little bit overcooked - spaghetti carbonara was very tasty but the bacon pieces were a little large and rubbery. House wine expensive at £4.50 for a 175ml glass.I'd go consider going back but i'd stick to something simple to eat, and only when it's not too busy so that service is good.

Excellent food and very good service. They deducted the cost of a desert because they felt we had waited too long for it to arrive! We were overwhelmed by the kindness and service.

eravamo in visita a greenwich in una giornata in cui la cittadina era molto affollata e siamo entrati perchè era uno dei pochi posti semi vuoto....dovevamo capire! il cibo era dozzinale il servizio effettuato da ragazze volenterose ma non professionali e , causa di tutto, un direttore indescrivibile che continuava a parlare in dialetto italiano con tutti anche agli inglesi e si indispettiva se questi non recepivano. imbarazzante

We just popped in to see if we could have dinner ..we were greeted by friendly staff,,she was very helpful even if her English wasn't too good...we ordered and it wasn't long before the food arrived..it was lovely.....that's all we want to say...worth the money although it wasn't expensive....

Probably one of the worst place I have ever been in London. Everything was terrible: service, staff, food, drinks, price. It is a complete rip-off.

The waitress was very nice but had too much to do on her own. I had the chicken shish which took ages to arrive. When it did it looked and tasted like a cheap microwave meal. Even the Salad was really poor. And they have a 10% service charge. Will not be going there again.

I piatti sono approssimativi e poco curati - il locale carino e le cameriere (sono tutte donne) gentili e disponibili, ma la qualità è decisamente mediocre e frutto di un lavoro che sembra improvvisato. Inoltre si paga il servizio (10%) applicato su prezzi già abbastanza gonfiati.Apprezzabile il dessert ma è un po' poco per dare un buon giudizio.

We happened by chance on this restaurant in Greenwich. It looked fine from the outside and was about one third full. The waitress was extremely nice and we ordered the set menu for 3.I ordered the Calamari as starter which arrived looking like 6 overcooked elastic bands and my colleague ordered the minestrone soup and that looked like it was from a packet and tasted even worse. The main courses were no better, I ordered a Turkish meat dish that arrived with a plate of plain rice. The meat was one tiny piece of fatty meat floating in a tepid sauce. I complained and the waitress returned with another dish that had even more fatty meat in it. I could not tell if it was beef or lamb.The meal cost £52 with compulsory service added. As I said the waitress was very nice and was apologising for the poor quality of food.But this was a really awful meal. Save you money and go elsewhere.

I'm always a bit wary of restaurants that serve multiple cuisines, so I was a little concerned to see the predominantly Turkish menu had some pasta and tapas dishes, I always wonder if a place will lack an identity. But it looked nice and they had a few spare tables. I wanted to give my hard earned cash to an independent restaurant as greenwich is being overrun by grindingly average chains. We went for the meze (a bargain 25 quid for tonnes of lovely grub. Falafel and hummus were a little bland, but the borek, haloumi, whitebait and calamari were first class, I'm really shocked to see some of the reviews on here because I found the service to be charming and fast. Our waitress did seem to be new and didn't know the menu that well, but I really couldn't grumble. If people have had a bad experience in the past it feels like this place has turned a corner. I was only sorry that I didn't have room for pudding, but managed an excellent Turkish coffee. Will be back before long!

Do not let the looks of the place fool you. It is NOT as good as it looks. I ordered spaghetti bolognese, It was the worst spaghetti I have ever eaten. I could only finish half of it. I was just a light coat of tomato sauce with no spices. The blandest spaghetti ever. A frozen microwave spaghetti is infinitely better.I do not know what is wrong with my waitress. I tried to get her attention for a drink refill. She even looked at me in the eye as I signaled to her and she did not move. The manager then asked her to tend to me. What did she do? She went to bus the table next to me and disappeared. The manager promptly got my refill,.This is a microwave chef Ding-a-ling place. Avoid it. Two coca cola costs almost as much as the main course. I paid an OBSCENE price for such a crappy meal with included a 10%. I should have as for the gratuity back. I complete rippoff

We arrived and were seated promptly. We ordered some drinks and they arrived okay.It took a while for the waitress to come back and take our food order. We each ordered a starter and both had the same main course, a grilled fish platter. Whilst we were waiting for our food another couple were seated next to us. The restaurant was so dark in our area they had to get their phones out to help them read the menu. Our starters arrived about 20 minutes later. But was wrong. It took about five minutes to attract attention to get this changed. The waitress took it back but got it wrong a second time. We got there in the end. It was only grilled halloumi and pitta. Not too tricky. The main course came about 35 minutes after the starter. But without chips as it stated it came with on the menu. This time the manager dealt with us and said we could have the chips for free. I pointed out that they were supposed to come with the dish anyway. The food was dry and bland. Very bland. It wasn't a particularly cheap dish either. Very disappointing. The 10% service they added tipped me over the edge. I asked them to remove it, which they did without question.They were clearly under staffed. The manager I expect was being a tight wad and not wanting to pay an extra member of staff. I'd steer clear of this place.

We came as a group of 4 and chose from the set menu deal(starter and a main for £10.95). First the service was terrible, I understand that they were short staffed, but they should have closed off part of the restaurant rather than stretch themselves thin on the ground. It took them 35 minutes to bring out our starters and another 30 minutes for our mains to arrive. Secondly they made a mistake and missed out a starter for my friend. As it took so long to be served, she said to cancel the order and she'll just have the main. The manager came to see what the problem was and my friend said the filo pastry was raw inside and lacked filling(by looking at mine). The manager then huffed at her and stormed off, only to shortly return to serve her a plate of boreks saying it was for free, yet it was part of the set menu which we were paying for anyway.My main was ok, I had the seabass, which came with fries and a plain salad. My friends had the vegetable mousaka, which was so oily. When the bill came we noticed that they took off one starter, which the manager said was free and reduced the bill by 3p!! We disputed this and the manager reduced our bill by £7, but we still had to pay for the 10% service charge, so it didn't make any difference.We were left hungry, disappointed and £15 short.

Looks good from street view, my wife & I entered & were seated promptly. Asked for a pint of Lager & was meet with a look of bemusement! After a couple more attempts to order trying different speeds & decibel levels the drinks menu & index finger came to the rescue, proceeded to order food, a steak fajita dish & veggie moussaka, no starters but ordered some bread & olives.After about 10 minutes drinks arrived followed 10 minutes later by some garlic bread brought by different waitress, she was informed we didn't order garlic bread but bread & olives! she apologised & took away having word with order taker on way thru. 5 min later a small bowl of dry olives & two small slices of dry bread arrived no olive oil or balsamic vinegar was offered. Next to arrive was a plate of steak & chips I informed waitress this order was wrong but couldn't be bothered to wait for it to be changed, then a bowl of moussaka & small bowl of dry looking salad arrived, moussaka was stone cold & had to be returned to no doubt be blasted by high level microwaves. No discount was offered or asked for. Left ASAP never to return.

We popped into this restaurant as drawn in by the decor from the window and menu looked good. We both sat at the table with benches at the far back however this was a big mistake. Firstly my coffee was lukewarm when given so I had to complain then when the food was delivered we were finding either we had to move forward and sit closer to the table (therefore having no back support) or have to move my dinner plate slightly off the table towards me in order that i could my back could be supported. What I'm saying is that the benches were too far back from the table and therefore not able to eat comfortably. The tomato based sauce that was delivered with the chicken and lamb kebab tasted awful and therefore as we ate without found our dinner to be dry. When the bill was received I would have expected the restaurant to at least have taken the price off for the coffee as a gesture of goodwill but this did not happen. The food is overpriced for what you get. On the plus side I will say that the staff were very pleasant. We don't plan on going to this restaurant again unless we hear things have changed.

We were attending a trade fair over at Excel and were staying at Greenwich. After a walk round the town we chose Papa Charlie's to eat at and went in. We were shown to a table by a helpful waitress and a drinks order taken. We chose chicken givec and a chicken fajita and after a reasonable time it appeared. My wife's fajita was fine with plenty of tasty chicken. It soon became clear that my chicken was actually lamb ( another menu option) but as it tasted fine and was actually my second choice I was happy to eat it.I mentioned this error and the waitress discovered that her colleagued had mis- typed the order into the screen and I had indeed got lamb. It didn't worry me and I was happy to accept it.Other reviewers complaints about lack of staff were not a problem for us as there were several waitresses and the manager was also there. It looks to us like the earlier problems when the restaurant first opened may have been resolved, hopefully the proprietors can keep up this standard.As far as I can tell the restaurant used to be called Helvas.

This was my first and only visit.I ate with 5 friends and my nephew. The waitress was very friendly at first and got us a highchair which was clean and in good condition.Unfortunately the rest of our experience wasn't so good. The poor waitress was working on her own running a restaurant with over 100 covers.We all decided on the £9.95 for 2 course menu which was ok but nothing special. You get what you pay for and so we weren't expecting anything extraordinary.What was frustrating was the lack of interest. As we were leaving I spotted 2 males having coffee, who had served themselves so I asked them if they were the owners. They said they were and when I told them that I thought they were being very unfair to the waitress leaving her alone, they agreed, but what they should have done was help her in the first place.Not a good enough place to bother revisiting again.

Was planning on going to nandos for lunch but thought it would be a nice change to try out a new idenpendant restaurant. When I walked in the staff where extremely nice and welcoming, I ordered a mixed grill and I have to say it was very authentic! Being used to cheap kebabs this was a very welcome change. The value is definitly spot on I would reccomnend!

We went here for an evening meal. It looked promising as the menu is so varied there seems to be something for everyone. And we were keen to try a local independent restaurant rather than going to a chain.However we had the worst garlic bread we've ever been served, and both main courses were so dreadful we hardly touched them.The only good points were the wine (which was nice) and the staff (who were lovely). And they did give us a reduction on our bill without us having to ask.......

OMG How terrible!! The staff are very pleasant and the restaurant is clean and contemporary but the food is over cooked and obviously very sadly processed.My wife had the Sea Bass, which was over cooked and could have ouled the Jimmy's, the "new potatoes" were processed French Fries and the accompanying salad looked like it had been stolen from the rabbit next door.I had the chilli burger, after playing 5 minutes of guess what it was... ham, beef, horse!? We had no alternative but to ask the waitress. Naaaa she was not too sure either, sadly our invitation to the management and the chief to come and explain, was turned down.Actions speak louder then words!!If in SE10 do not visit Proper Charlie.... ooops sorry Papa Charlie, stick with the food in the market at least you know what you are getting!

Once our starter arrived, we knew we'd made a bad decision. Our hummus had the texture and consistency of regurgitated scrambled eggs, thrown onto a plate with a few chives, and served with a tiny portion of what appeared to be pita bread bought from the nearest Tesco. Needless to say we didn't touch it, and by the time our main came we were ravenous. My other half ordered the kofte and I ordered the chilli burger, but besides the the burger coming in bread I couldn't much tell the difference between the two. The meat was unidentifiable, and both were burnt well beyond what could have been accepted as chargrilled. Somehow even the fries were bad, so bland we couldn't even taste the potato. We barely touched our food, no one asked us how it was, and then waited around twenty minutes for our bill (after asking twice), opting to not pay the service charge that had so kindly already been added. I wish we'd had a better experience as this place is in a great location and has so much potential, but we'll definitely be avoiding it in the future.

My wife and I live fairly local to Greenwich and had walked there along the thames for sunday lunch. We spotted Papa Charlie and chose it based on its light menu. The Proprietor was very welcoming and the place looks very clean and tidy, although there is no real theme so its a bit like entering a jumble sale, as there is bricker-brac around the walls. We waited at the door to be seated for a good 10 plus minutes, the owner having to run off and find a waitress to attend to us. We then waited another 15 to 20 minutes for a menu. We then waited another 30 minutes for the food to appear my wife's mixed salad platter arrived a good 20 minutes before my own meal, she was half way done before my risotto appeared. I also order-ed scallops which arrived some time later again.We were not the only table waiting, at least half the tables in our section were calling for waitresses, or in one case giving up and leaving.Everything comes with chips, and the presentation is a bit ruff and ready, you feel like your at a local London cafe for breakfast, I was expecting a big mug of tea to appear at one point. The chips are dry and over cooked, the risotto was verging on wallpaper paste. The scallops were perfectly cooked but drowning in a tomato source that made the dish look like a murder scene, and served with chips just to add that London cafe feel.We had ordered the cheapest bottle of Rose on the menu £20.00. which tasted like a £4.00 you pick up at a local corner shop.Then when you are done you'll find, for all that great service and food the service-charge is already added to your bill.It's a shame this place is so rubbish, the menu is ok and well matched to the area, its also in a great spot. It will take the right staff and this place could be a real gem.

This great new restaurant has only been here about 4 weeks. I'm really glad I discovered it and hope it does well. The friendly, exuberant manager Antonio was very welcoming. I was with a friend and we just wanted a reasonably quick lunch, but we felt under no pressure to get alcoholic drinks, starters or deserts. We both ordered the veggie felafel burger and I have to say it was amazing. The french fries hand cut, the burger bun high quality and delicious, the whole thing was a delight. A gentleman behind me summoned the waitress to say that the lamb was the best and most tender he'd ever eaten. The restaurant is open all day until late in the night. It's huge and thereby suitable for families with children, couples wanting a bit of privacy in a booth, large parties and groups. It's on two levels with tons of seating so the ambiance will always be suitable for your needs. It's extremely good value and a small tip is added to the bill which is helpful. I'll be going back as soon as I can. If you are bored with the regular chains in Greenwich do give this a try.
