Pant-Y-Gwydr in Swansea

I visited as a part of a large work event. It was midweek, and the restaurant opened specially for us. The atmosphere was good, even though half the restaurant was closed off, so I imagine on a busy night it would be even better. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu had a wide range, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes. There was also a large wine list, which some of my colleagues took full advantage of. The food was excellent; a Tarte Tatin de Canard starter, with Vegan Couscous as a main. Several people in our group had dessert, which looked amazing. Nothing on the menu was cheap, and expect to spend at least £50-£60 per head for three courses and drinks. All in all, I would highly recommend a visit.

A little gem in Swansea. The service was top notch, made you feel like you were at a swanky restaurant! They were always happy to help and were very pleasant. Food was unbelievable! Really tasty and vibrant. The only let down was that the triple cooked chips were likely frozen chips cooked to death.

Had a "take-away" last night. Everything was securely packed and ready at the agreed time. Importantly, the food was absolutely perfect, including even the basil and rocket garnishes. Eco containers can be kept warm or re- heated in a low oven/microwave, allowing time for a couple of drinks before you serve up. Full instructions provided. A wonderful service that Swansea is lucky to have.

What an experience,excellent food great service, good value for money, restaurant doesn't look the best from the outside but inside is beautiful, really first rate dining experience, host started with a delicious free entree, followed by 3 courses of excellent food. Atmosphere was really good with tables spaced to have really great audible conversation. My son was that impressed he wants to take girlfriend for their anniversary. 10/10

This amazing french restaurant provides stunning tasty food consistently- we have visited over a number of year & always had delicious meals. Make a diversion to eat here & don’t be put off by the area!! Now that we now live relatively nearby we shall be coming a lot more. The service is friendly and attentive with a personal touch. The little taster of buckwheat pancakes with cheese & chives gives a wonderful preview of the quality of food about to arrive. We came on a Friday night for my partners birthday & had a superb 3 course meal, including snails, gambas, confit duck, rack of lamb & strawberry Charlotte. The accompanying potatoes for both dishes were both delicious & green beans perfect. I don’t normally have dessert but managed to finish the strawberry Charlotte as it was so delicious & my partner devoured the Chocolat dessert selection. Wine is perfectly chosen for the food & all at an incredibly reasonable price. Loved it all & will be back v soon.

I would like to review the food but am unable to . Went on Thursday evening at 8. There were diners at only 2 tables but i was told as I didnt have a reservation there was nothing they could do . I tried to reserve on Saturday by phone and left a voicemail to ask if there was anything for 7.45. No reply but went there. Place about two thirds full but again I was told that I had not made a reservation and that I had come in a couple of nights before doing the same thing . It was truly like an episode from Fawlty Towers with a customer treated like an inconvenience .

This was our second visit, two years after our first meal at Pant-Y-Gwydr. We were excited to return and despite our high expectations we were not at all disappointed. The meal was superb, with exquisitely balanced flavours and attention to detail. The menu is clearly well practiced with limited variation, but it doesn’t matter as there is plenty to choose from. We had two children in our party (aged 9 and 13) and whilst there isn’t a children’s menu we were able to use a couple of options modified to accommodate them. Children with unsophisticated palates might not be as well catered for. The interior appears to have been redecorated since we last visited and it felt more homely and comfortable than our first visit. The location of the restaurant is out of keeping with the quality of the food and service, but do not let that put you off from visiting.

Returned to the restaurant after a gap but the service and quality are still there. We used to eat here every Christmas for years. This was a quiet lunch. The escargots and navarin of Welsh lamb were excellent as were my friend's gambas and sea bass with the delicious house wine. All served with quiet efficiency by the lovely Michelle. We appreciated the amuse bouche and chocolate truffles. This is not cheap food but shows devotion to the culinary arts

Wow!!!! The food and service was so outstanding that we have booked a larger table for two weeks time. I had a mixture of vegan and non vegan food, my family the same. All our dishes were of the highest standards, perfectly displayed and served with professionalism that you would expect from a 5star hotel. I can't praise this restaurant enough.

Great food, expect muscles appetiser - wasnr salted or spiced at all. Friendly nice staff. Delicious desserts!

I have to say, it wasn’t great. Review wise this place ticks all the boxes, and the fact the restaurant has been operating in the area for many years gave me the impression that this was going to be a top restaurant (There isn’t that many in Swansea). The service is good, very friendly staff but unfortunately the quality is just not there. Your better off heading to bouchon de rossi/beach house if your looking to get your moneys worth for quality food.

With widespread upheaval in the Hospitality industry, it is a challenging time to provide an excellent experience for the customer which justifies the costs associated with eating out. Pant-Y-Gwydr maintains an excellent standard throughout. A warm, welcoming setting is exemplified by the standard of service, managing the fine balance between being attentive but not intrusive. The food is where pant-y-gwydr shines, with quality ingredients skillfully incorporated into adventurous but traditional dishes and cooked & presented perfectly. Although prices everywhere have risen, the pant-y-gwydr provides superb value for money considering the quality of food on offer, albeit at the premium end of the scale. This is clearly not a restaurant for weekly casual dining, but is outstanding as a luxurious treat.

For such constant perfection Jacques just has to be a fantastic chef in this restaurant which serves superb food. Given my weekly consumption of meals here or takeaways during lockdown as well as now occasionally, it has been suggested that I move in. Lunchtime today I had the vegetable soup, the seabass prepared to a Nicoise recipe, the tarte tatin and, of course their great coffee. Plus a couple of large glasses of the excellent and very reasonable house white. I'm more of a meat eater and red wine drinker so today was a departure from steak (amazing every time), duck, lamb, chicken-ok all superb always and served in wonderful tasting sauces. I skim over the range of starters - the fish soup is stunning and the pavé de champignons another personal favourite - and then the amazing home made (like pretty much everything on the food menu) desserts. Swansea would be a lot duller for friends and I without this place.

Found Pant Y Gwydr in May 2022 and took a friend for lunch, have since returned 3 times and will continue to. Excellent quality food at decent prices, a gem of a place in Swansea.

Fantastic food as simple as that

I have and still do travel, eat and drink well in France and I have to complement the restaurant with its authenticity and quality of French regional dishes. The restaurant prices are probably similar to those in France.

Very accommodating as we were going to see Jo Brand at Grand theatre. Had 3 courses which were delicious. Owner makes you feel welcome and young staff could easily be at home in michelin star establishments. Top notch.

Very delicious food, especially the fillet of beef

I visited this restaurant twice during a trip from Thailand to South Wales and on both occassions the food was divine. I had been looking for a special place to take a long lost friend and Pant-Y-Gwydr did not dissapoint. Both myself and my friend were delighted with the food and wine selection. First visit we had reserved but on the second we had not reserved and just walked in and was told that they normally didn't accept walk in's but they made an exception, so to avoid dissapointment it's better if you reserve a table, unfortunately I dont think that this is explained on their website. Overall a great place in Swansea for fine French food.

10 years ago I first discovered this restaurant when I lived in Swansea and I loved it back then. I have since turned vegan. French cuisine is classically animal product heavy and the French vegan cuisine I have tasted (including a vegan French restaurant in Paris!) has been very forgettable. I was flabbergasted and so excited to see the addition of so many vegan options on the menu! The dishes was thoughtful and creative and I couldn't wait to try. The menu exceeded all expectations... A thoughtful amuse bouche celebrating the humble delicious tomato was aburst with flavour The Millefeuille of vegetables with a prominent earthy spinach sauce and also tasted the gateau de courgette with gently layered ribbons of courgette atop a delicious filling with a rich tomato sauce. For main I indulged in the couscous/vegetable tagine and vegan tofu croquettes - beautifully sculpted and flavoursome croquettes and the vegetables sung in the tagine bathed in an umami rich sauce and never did I think cous cous could be cooked so beautifully. A carafe of Beaujolais to hand to complement these vegetables beautifully. The piece de resistance was indeed dessert - I was concerned that I would never be able to taste the trio that is the incredible, irresistible, mouthwatering and ingenious "la vanille" - however a vegan version appeared on the menu and my dreams came true! Whilst it is challenging to substitute eggs in dessert - this was the best vegan version of creme brulee I have ever tasted. And wow - the raspberry sorbet - I was in heaven! (Sadly I was so in the moment I forgot to snap a pic!) I am speechless and booking my next meal as we speak eventhough I now live 4 hours away! Worth traversing the country for without a doubt! I appreciate so much your exploration and embrace of plant based food 🙏 This is the best dining out vegan experience I have EVER experienced! Book now!

Booked table early as we were going to the grand. Haven't been here for a few years but was again not disappointed. Service was excellent and the food ...wow. we were given a cheese and chive taster followed by mushroom starter which was delicious. My wife had fillet rossini and I had chicken breast both with triple fries. Desserts were a strawberry sponge with cream dish and the other was triple ice cream Finished off with an espresso. Fabulous start to the evening. We will return

The staff and food at the Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant is absolutely fabulous 👌 If you haven't been there, give it a go, you won't be dissapointed. The wine list is excellent, coffee to die for.

This is the sort of restaurant I've looking for a long time. As soon as you walk in you know the food was going to be good, and it didn't dissapoint. First class proper French cuisine, delicious, first class service. Best in Swansea, well, best anywhere really!

What a gorgeous menu! We tried all of the vegan options between us and they were all outstanding, creative and fresh but with a rustic base that made everything feel so comforting! Lovely service by the lady who owns it, would highly recommend to anyone looking for wonderful food cook individually and supporting a small business. Really great all round experience, mussles where plentiful and delicious, veggy options in abundance (its why i picked here) Great wine list, great service, great everything! I was a little underdressed in a normal tshirt - but a guy had a polo shirt so it felt ok but in future suit jacket and t-shirt or shirt for me.

The Pant-y-Gwydr is a fabulous restaurant. Tucked away in quite an unassuming corner of Swansea, this restaurant is certainly one of the city's best. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from a waiter and the front of house. The décor inside is nice, clean and simple, with a nod to the coastal location with a colourful mural and artsy black and white photos. We were greeted with an amuse bouche comprising a neat little warm pancake parcel of cream cheese and chives. They were served piping hot however and so burned a guests mouth. It was however delicious and a taste of the wonderful dishes to come. The food on the menu looked lovely, however the sheet it was printed on needs an overhaul. It was congested and printed in Arial font, whilst surely, if it must be required, all of the allergy information could be on a separate sheet rather than on the main menu. Nevertheless, there was a beautiful selection and variety of dishes to choose from, as well as a large selection of good wines. The starter of pan-fried scallops, broad beans, balsamic pearl caviar, olive oil was delightful. Perhaps the scallops didn't sing as much as in perhaps a more simple dish, however it was a generous size and the flavours were warming and subtle. A great tribute the seaside location. The frogs legs with parsley, garlic, tomato, butter was equally lovely. Perhaps more of a punch is needed as part of a summer menu, but it was well presented and perfectly executed. The bread served with the starters was very good, though the butter straight from the fridge was hard and so difficult to spread. Overall a nice start to a meal. The main courses looked equally appetising (despite their poor menu presentation). The Magret de canard (duck breast) was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with neatly trimmed large asparagus, a rich fond de canard sauce, and flavourful dauphinois potatoes. The quality of the ingredients were certainly allowed to shine here and each mouthful was comforting and delicious in equal measure. The sea bream with lentil parmentier and coriander sauce was also a very well put together main course. The portion of sea bream was generous and the presentation, though not terribly modern, was classic and without gimmicks. And finally to dessert. The concept of the trio of deserts is novel and certainly shows off the pastry skills of the chef who creates them. We chose Le Caramel, comprising a quite exquisite chocolate and caramel fondant, lovely caramel ice-cream and crisp, and a caramel log. The fondant was clearly the star of the show and was so wonderful, left the log component seeming as surplus. It is probably worth a trip to the Pant-y-Gwydr just for the fondant! Le Citron again was a great dessert with a cooling, palate cleansing sorbet with lemon decoration and a delicious cream of lemon and meringue component with candied lemon zest. This was certainly the star of the show, and if there can be any fault it would just be that it wasn't the size of the plate! The "demi-citron" with mascarpone and mint however was sadly not nice, and terribly sour. It seemed such a shame after such a brilliant sorbet and the most marvellous meringue. Overall this is a great restaurant. At the end of our meal we felt that we had had a quite delicious meal (despite the chairs being strangely, a touch low which meant we were leaning forwards all evening - though like all of the minor points mentioned above, very fixable). The highlights were definitely the main courses and our favourite pieces of the desserts - especially the fondant. If one ever does visit Swansea, they simply must visit the Pant-y-Gwydr restaurant.

This was the first time in five or six years since we had met with my sister and brother-in-law for a meal. What a pleasure it was to eat here at the Pant-y-Gwydr. As ever, the range of food on the menu was excellent, with a wide range of French influenced dishes for all tastes. I was particularly impressed by their new range of vegan items on the menu. While none of us chose these items it is good to know they are available when vegan friends come for a visit. My frog's legs were a delightful starter, full of rich and tangy flavours with the delicate taste of frog meat. My main - Potée de lotte - was a wonderful combination of squid, monkfish and mussels in a wonderfully flavoured stock. The monkfish was the star of the dish, but the warming after taste was also a great delight. I finished with a lovely selection of cheeses which, though normally served with biscuits was served with bread at my request. The careful, attentive, service was an example of good practice, being there at the right time without any pressure. The treat was compounded when my brother in Australia had arranged to pay for the four of us without us knowing until the end of the meal!!

Absolutely beautiful food, attentive service, and a really lovely and cleanly presented restaurant. Highly recommended a visit to anyone with dietary requirements. A good selection of vegan dishes that far surpases the usual basic or bland options offered at restaurants. Each dish has the ingredients listed on the menu making informed choices easy. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and all members of our party are looking forward to returning.
