Palanquin in Sunderland

We visited Palanquin on the spur and chose the special menu which was £13.95 for 2 courses. The choice was very good and the portion sizes big, with the main came either a rice or nan but if there are 2 of you the rice portion is big enough to share 1 rice and the a nan.The quality of the food was superb and service was spot on. All in all a great customer experience , we will definitely be back.

The food was great. Order arrived quickly (we got a takeaway) reasonably priced and also authentic. The only thing I would say is that the portions are big so food gets wasted sometimes.

We went as a group of 6 to Palanquin's, we were shown to our seats immediately and our drinks order was taken. We were given our menus by a friendly waiter and given an ample amount of time to choose our meals. We ordered from the specials menu, 2 Courses for £13.95. I got the Meat Samosa for starter, very tasty and the perfect amount to keep me ticking over for the main. Lamb Bhuna for main, very flavourful and was delicious accompanied by the Pilau rice and Garlic Naan. We ordered extra sides to pick at between the lads which was just enough to fill us all. No complaints from any of us. We will be coming again as a group. Nice establishment. Would recommend.

Think they may have forgotten our booking, and we wish they had, We sat alone surrounded by dirty tables and bar. No atmosphere and freezing cold. Took nearly 2hrs for food to come. Disabled toilet smelt terrible and was filthy dirty. Very disappointing as we picked this place because we have had a nice time there before. If you can't accommodate please don't take the booking.

This was a takeaway, didn’t eat in. Paneer tikka starter only had 3 bits of cheese. It was suggested as veg starter, albeit it has chicken in it. Onion Bhaji was cold when it arrives tikka masala sauce was tasteless and so was the plain curry sauce, all in all not good. Will do back to our regular takeaway

Brilliant food and attentive service. The manager here runs a great restaurant serving top Indian cuisine, generous portions always served piping hot.

Food 5* everyone really enjoyed the food, only thing that needs improving is the heating, little heaters dotted around not warming up near enough. All sat in coats shivering. When you can see your breathe indoors you know the heating needs to be sorted.

Use Palanquin on a regular basis over the last year. Without doubt our favourite. Great staff, food is amazing

Wow! Amazing!! The wife and I ate here for the first time a few days ago and I have to say.... WE WILL BE BACK SOON! Firstly, the most important thing is the food and presentation which was outstanding. My stomachs rumbling just thinking about it. Been to many Indian restaurants and this one stands out. Secondly, the service was fantastic. The servers were perfectly polite and attentive without being overbearing. Lastly, don't judge a book (this restaurant) by its cover and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We visited on a Friday night quite off the cuff, what a pleasant surprise , I couldn’t believe how empty it was, I realise it’s just been renovated so perhaps word hasn’t gotten out yet but the food was excellent, mixed starter and lamb chops were superb and the curries were very good. Staff were above reproach I would really recommend this place. I would say it’s a few quid more than perhaps is normal but worth it but would cut the visits down to a treat rather than a regular visit, I’d of thought the take away would be cheaper so try that first.

Beautiful food and equally too the staff. Not enough could be done for us over the night. Recommend to any one for food and a good atmosphere

I was over visiting family in January and had a takeaway and it was delicious, so I returned in February and myself, my husband, brother and sister in law decided we’d enjoyed the takeaway so much we would dine in this time. Was I disappointed???? Absolutely not!!! From stepping into the restaurant to paying the bill and leaving I cannot fault a single thing. Service 5* attentive, helpful staff. Food 5* so so tasty, freshly cooked, absolutely spot on!!! I had the meat samosas to start, best I’ve ever had. Then the chicken tikka rogan josh. Best garlic naan I’ve tasted. The chefs are fab, such nice food. I cannot recommend the service and food here enough. If you are in the area give Palanquin a try… you won’t be disappointed.

We visited on a Saturday night and were very impressed. The restaurant is set out well with tables quite apart from each other, which is good for privacy. We had a tikka chicken and onion bhaji starter, both served on a very fresh bed of salad with really good yoghurt sauce, and lemon. For mains we had chicken madras and chicken rogan josh. Both sauces were very tasty with good chicken pieces. We had a portion of chips, mushroom pilau and a plain nan as sides. We had a pint and a half of cobra and the price was just under £40 in total. The quality of the food was superb and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The toilets were immaculate too. We often travel through to ocean road in south shields for our indian meals, but the quality at Palanquins is head and shoulders above any restaurant we've tried there. We'll definitely be back

Discovered this as a takeaway a couple of weeks ago, after using takeaway very close for a couple of years. All we can say is - excellent, from the speed of delivery to the food itself. Quite a bit more expensive overall, but what you’re paying for is consistency of quality and taste, superb. Have spent a small fortune just this week, but well worth it.

This food was magnificent been waiting for good food since lock down cannot wait to go to the restaurant. Booked a delivery slot no problems yet again fantastic mixed kebab lamb chops nans rices and curry’s all tastey
