Paesano in Glasgow City

The pizza is still tasty but I felt more ( as the Americans would say) nickel and dimed. To explain- the place was once cheap and cheerful. Now, however, 3 of us spent £120 for a pizza each, 2 starters between the 3 of us, one cocktail and one glass of wine each. Example of a slightly greedy approach...£2.50 extra for a wee pot of garlic mayo which is just too much. House wine now £25 per bottle. So go by all means but your bill will mount up unless you have only a Margherita pizza and a glass of water and who is going to do that!!??

Lo que solía ser un brillante lugar de pizza (desde entonces) se ha ido cuesta abajo. El personal solía ser coordinado y hábil. Ahora no. Cuando una vez solías conseguir que tu pedido se tomara rápidamente y que la comida se entregara en menos de diez minutos, esperábamos lo que parecía ser una edad de pedido a comida. Solía ser la pizza que llegaba a tu mesa, caliente del horno con la masa deliciosamente esponjosa. En esta visita la pizza estaba caliente (obviamente estuvo sentada un rato antes de llegar a la mesa) y como tal no un parche de cómo solía ser. Si se hubiera servido rápidamente y a tiempo, habría sido mucho mejor ya que los sabores en sí eran buenos. El antiguo Montepulciano ha sido reemplazado por una alternativa menos compleja y ahora hay un cargo por servicio del 10 % en la factura (probablemente para que los propietarios puedan compensar los salarios del personal). Es triste ver la muerte de lo que una vez fue una joya del West End.

Waited half an hour for takeaway only to find out that their kitchen had lost the order- heard it's been a shit show since new management took over

Food is delicious as always. There new app system for ordering takeaway isn't great though.

We’ve been on Mayday as the weather was glorious Pizza was amazing, baked at perfection and so flavourful. We chose the rocket special and the pancheta one We were completely ignored when we entered the place we waited more for drinks that for the pizzas and it was so busy, and you could see waitresses literally standing in the kitchen with their hair down and phone in their hands!?

Not what it used to be. Shame that it’s changed under the new owners. Food and service was not as good as it used to be. Also used to pride themselves in being reasonably priced - this is not the case anymore.

What a place pizza was great service very fast. You can't book but turn up and wait. But worth the wait they text you when your table is ready. So go next door have and have a drink while you wait. We didn't need to wait long. Great atmosphere..

I often to to Paesano and it never disappointed, their pizzas are amazing, I love their specials. The staff is always very nice and helpful. Would highly recommend!

Superb pizza and excellent service!

It was very noisy and we had to wait a moment for a table, but the pizza was absolutely delicious.

The only downside is that it’s often very busy; it’s not a bad problem to have.

I've been a regular customer at Paesano for years. Their pizzas are fantastic and I would always recommend them to people. I would have put 5/5 had it not been the recent implementation of a "discretionary 10% gratuity" that is automatically included in the bill. This sleazy practice, presumably imported from the US, needs to stop. I see more and more hospitality venues adopting this and, frankly, it's repulsive to me as a customer. It's neither "optional" nor "gratuity" if it's automatically included - it puts unnecessary pressure on the customer due to the potential for an awkward interaction between them and waiting staff should they wish to opt out. This makes it a de facto "service charge". A tip, by definition, is and should always be optional at the customer's discretion - no questions asked. You either put a non-optional flat % service charge and make it very obvious on the menu, or increase your prices - both of which are acceptable. But please do away with this gratuity opt-out nonsense. This is not America!

Arguably the best pizza place in Glasgow

I'm afraid the pizzas aren't as good anymore, especially the tomato based ones. The music here is so loud that the waiter couldn't hear half of our order and only brought pizzas - no drinks. Really upset about the service charge being added without any notice! Stop it, this is not the USA.

Excellent pizzas every time. Both vegan and vegetarian options are available. No reservations possible unfortunately. There was a 20 minute wait when I came in a group of three on a weekday evening. Packed for dinner.

Food fabulous. Great pizzas. They now add a tip fee of 10% onto your bill. Bit disappointing. It is upto individuals to add what they want as tip.

I’m not usually a fan of pizza—it’s typically my last choice—but this pizza restaurant is probably one of my favourites in the UK. I tried the Fior di Latte mozzarella pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The portion was quite large, and I couldn’t manage to finish it, though my friends thoroughly enjoyed theirs and cleared their plates. The restaurant was busy, which suggests it’s a popular spot in town. The staff were incredibly lovely, adding to the overall positive experience.

I'm a long standing customer, best pizza in town IMO and I was so disappointed with my last couple of visits that I've been compelled to write a review. I don't know what's going on or what has changed but the atmosphere is drastic. Our server was lovely and we were disgusted to hear how the manager (i presume he was the manager and I think i heard him being called "iain", possibly) spoke.to the young girl. Absolutely no manners or.respect for the girl serving us. It made for a very awkward visit, we we're embarrassed for the staff member who looked a bit she'll shocked, she was also embarrassed because she knew.we heard it and apologised to us. I am appalled at the transaction I witnessed and can only imagine what this chap is like in private. Paesano, you're staff are hard working and it has always been a pleasure to visit but sadly the interaction we witnessed last time and the strange change in atmosphere means we won't be back. I'm disappointed as we visited pretty much once a week. I really do hope the staff member spoke up after this, I haven't been able to stop thinking about her. Your staff deserve much better and a poor morale affects both staff and customers.

As an Italian I felt at home again, even better than some pizzerias in Italy, definitely worth trying. Friendly and helpful staff

Good pizza in town. Does not take reservations but once seated the service is blazing fast! Update: disappointed they embraced the new trend "optional 10% gratuity added to the bill". Ask to remove it. This is not the USA: I tip when I feel it's deserved.

Huge Paesano fan normally but the pizzas recently have gone downhill with the bases being underdone / not to temperature. Adding 10% service charge to the bill for a rushed in and out style dining experience is a bit debatable

Ate in on a Saturday night, so was very busy, which I didn’t find particularly comfortable as the room is large and the tables are packed together. Service was okay - our drinks orders were missed twice - but I appreciate that could be due to it being peak hour. We had a pizza each with olives on the side. The olives weren’t great; they hadn’t ripened enough in my opinion, and had little to no seasoning. The pizzas were fantastic though; will be ordering again but most likely as takeaway.

I was served by Ros & they were SO nice. I can’t recommend their service enough, so easy to chat to & so friendly!! I haven’t met someone so sweet before, they complimented my nails too & had a great personality!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza, it was the best I’ve had in a long time! Thank you so much

Paesano was great! There was about an hour long wait on Saturday for dinner, but they turn tables quickly and it was worth it. Pizza was simple and delicious, pizza comes out quickly for how busy it can get.

I had seen before visiting Glasgow that Paesano was recently voted best pizza in the city, and couldn't wait to try it on arrival. Finally made it over on the second to last day of our visit, and my expectations were not only matched but surpassed. I had the number 4 pizza with salame, photo below, and it was incredible. The charred crust perfectly complements the sauce with a delightful hint of spice from the meat. Service was friendly and fast.

Best pizza in town (Glasgow). I recommend to everyone and don’t forget to have the ice cream with Amarena cherries for dessert 😋

I had the aubergine, red pesto, ricotta, scamorza, sundried tomato and mozzarella pizza. First off, the pesto is plopped on in quite a gross looking way, but even looking past that there is wayyy too much going on here flavour wise. A reminder that simple pizzas are the best ones. I really hope paesano bosses see this and take this one off the permanent menu it doesn't deserve to be there🙏

Really good pizza. The dough is left to rise for a whole day (so I read on their brochure) and I guarantee that it is one of the few times that my belly, in fact, has not swelled. They greeted us on Saturday afternoon, full venue and we hadn't booked. Affogato just as delicious, with ice cream that actually tasted a lot like the Italian one 😉

Brand new menu and they no longer offer the no 8 pizza. Staff even acknowledge that customers have asked for it and yet they won't do it in spite of them having all the ingredients to make it. Please listen to your customers! Other than that pizzas are good and authentic.

Absolutely lives up to the hype! The pizza is top quality and the toppings are generous. The fennel sausage is unbelievable, as is the Nduja. Try the special chilli oil in the skull, its amazing. My boyf who is a big chilli head underestimated it and paid the price haha. I was more sensible and it went so well with the honey crust dip. Lovely buzzing atmosphere, nice mix of people and the staff are a lovely bunch - Will was fab, he had great recommendations on the menu and was an all round good egg. Full 5* they won my heart forever by having Oyster ice cream on the menu! Just like I uses to get from the ice cream van when I was a wee girl. These guys are too much ❤️❤️❤️

The food was good but I was horrified to see staff adding toppings onto pizza without any gloves on which left a sickening feeling in my tummy. Also there seems to be cross contamination between meat and other topping, especially if you are using the same hand to add toppings to the base. You should be using tongs (at least for vegetables/cheese) and keeping them separate from the meats etc. Don't think the vegetarian community would be much pleased about that.

Lovely decor and staff. You feel welcome and relaxed as soon as you step into the restaurant. The pizzas were super tasty and cooked Napolitan style. Antipasti was superb to start with. Thanks

It's a wonderful place to eat. The service was excellent, and I was delighted. The price is also good for what you get. Fresh pizza and yummy desserts.

I've been to New York, Naples, and Rome, and this is the best pizza I've ever had. The quality of the ingredients is amazing, it's not overcomplicated, and the chili oil is perfect. This place is an absolute gem. Get the "2+" with fresh chillies.

Normalmente recibo un Paesano cada semana más a menudo el que está en el centro de la ciudad, solo voy por el número 1 vegano es mi favorito. La pizza salió visiblemente quemada, negra alrededor de la corteza y la albahaca y el ajo también sobrecocidos. Traté de comérmelo pero no pude aconsejarles que se quemara. No puedo comérmelo. Parecían sorprendidos por mis comentarios diciendo que así es como la pizza está bien diles que te hagan otra que esté mal cocida. Simplemente no me gustó cómo me respondieron tbh Tengo uno cada semana Sé a lo que sabe, luego vuelven con mi pizza nueva diciendo aquí está la nueva es ligeramente mal cocinado no podemos cocinarlo menos de lo contrario no se cocinará en absoluto. Honestamente idk lo que estaban tratando de dar a entender con los comentarios que simplemente deberían disculparse y volver a tomarlo no tratar de hacerlo ver como idk lo que está cocinado o no!

Excellent pizza, I really enjoyed it! Even if, for my taste, the crust is a little too big, that doesn't take away from the quality of the ingredients and flavors. The beer was also very good. The service was fast and efficient, no complaints. A very good address for pizza lovers!

Saturday night was an hour wait for a table but we got takeaway in 10 minutes. The pizza is delicious. The guy taking orders was very nice and the kitchen was very efficient at getting those takeaway orders out!

Mi hermana y yo estábamos en un tour en grupo (viajó a Escocia desde los Estados Unidos) y este lugar nos lo recomendó nuestro guía turístico. Estábamos allí un martes por la noche, pero parecía un viernes por la noche. El restaurante estaba lleno - sin duda una buena señal. Aunque el lugar estaba ocupado, estábamos sentados enseguida. Justo después de eso, una mujer nos saludó y tomó nuestro pedido de bebidas. Un minuto después, llegaron vasos y nuestras bebidas embotelladas. Un momento después de eso apareció nuestro servidor. No podía creer lo rápido que fuimos abordados en un restaurante claramente bullicioso. Nuestro servidor envió nuestras preguntas como le dijimos que nunca habíamos estado allí antes. Nos ofreció sugerencias y nos habló de los especiales. La pizza llegó a nuestra mesa en cinco minutos. Y para aclarar, esto no es un "lugar de pizza" como se podría pensar en los Estados Unidos. No es un lugar en el que corres y tomas comida para llevar, estoy seguro de que puedes, pero esa no es la vibra. Este es un restaurante luminoso y acogedor, pero el ajetreo es muy parecido a un lugar para llevar. Todo se movió rápidamente, pero nunca nos sentimos apresurados mientras estábamos comiendo. Nuestro servidor se registró para ver si necesitábamos algo más. Me preguntó si nos gustaba la pizza. Definitivamente. Ni mi hermana ni yo habíamos probado nunca este estilo de pizza. Great restaurant serving authentic Italian pizzas made fresh. The ingredients used are fresh. Quick ordering and serving. Staff knows the ingredients. Takes good care of allergens.

Great to see proper pizza. And not bad value for money. Coffee is strong and good. The menu only has espresso and cappuccino but they are happy to make others like americano. One of the best coffees I've had recently. Most places these days really skimp on the amount of coffee used, not so here. Nice looking ice cream options too, would like to try them sometime.

Great woodfire pizza and great atmosphere and staple of the Glasgow pizza scene. One issue of concern is that the prices have been rising substantially over the last 18 months, with some pizzas now almost double what they used to be. If you dislike the napolean pizza style of thin soft dough bases that don't hold together well on lifting, then this place also isn't for you.

The man at the reception is not good with kids. OK pizza but long wait times.

A super good address!! Good value for money! The pizzas are excellent and the tiramisu is homemade and not expensive for an Italian restaurant.

Casual eatery with authentic pizza, selection of salads and a variety of wines and beers. The tiramisu was especially good.

The restaurant directly entered my top 5 of the best places to have a pizza. The dough is delicious and well cooked in a traditional wood oven. The cooking part where pizzas are made is open, which offers you the opportunity to see the entire process. The atmosphere is nice and the service fast.

Authentic pizza really delicious. Reasonable price. Friendly staff and service (just they clean up the table too quickly when they think you are finishing) can be quite loud so not suitable if you want some quieter environment.

I love paesano and it's the place we go to when we are having a night out. I can't help it but feel something has changed as I have been disappointed by the hygiene the last two times I went in. First one being in town, a small roach was roaming in our tin with cutlery, when i pointed this out, a member of staff move it on the reception desk which was next to us, and 2 min later gave us the same tin once the roach was removed. Excuse me but i don't want to eat with cutlery that had roaches walk over them. Anyway, I thought it was one off. Last night we sat down in the west end one and the table next to us was just getting set up. The server, a lady with braids, dropped the paper mats on the ground, and then unbothered put them on the table for people to eat on. Not been funny but this is beyond hygiene breach. People put their cutlery on them, sometimes even food, touch it etc. Nothing that's been on the floor should be put back on the table. Disgusting! Sort yourselves out!

BEST PIZZA , forget dominos or anywhere else this pizza is amazing and so affordable! Their whippy ice cream is also so good. Love our date nights here!

There is ONLY pizza here!! A very good one!! We were served very quickly, even though the restaurant is really big and there are a lot of customers in it. Unfortunately it is very loud due to the size and the huge number of people - we were happy to go outside again... But food & price were perfect.

Soy cliente habitual de paesano porque es (o era) una de las mejores pizzas de Glasgow. Nuestras pizzas en 2 / 10 / 24 eran pobres (y estoy siendo amable). La mía tenía una base robusta poco cocinada, la de mi marido se vino abajo como base demasiado delgada y no podía soportar la porción demasiado grande de queso. Tampoco tenía la costra hinchada que es habitual. No es una buena pizza. Algo ha cambiado en su preparación, ya sean ingredientes o su habilidad. Fue tan malo, y tan inesperado como definitivamente no es su estándar habitual, pero lo suficientemente pobre para que lo intente en otro lugar la próxima vez.

Estaba muy ocupado y había una cola en la puerta un domingo por la noche. Nos trajeron y nos sentamos rápidamente. Nos sirvieron rápidamente y las pizzas llegaron muy rápido. Tanto que esperaba comida de fuego rápido pero me equivoqué. La pizza era increíble. Probablemente es la única pizza que he visto a mi hija demoler por completo! No veo la hora de volver. El personal y la dirección bien hecho, la forma en que un punto de venta de alimentos debe ser dirigido!
