Pad Thai Restaurant in Tonbridge and Malling

This was our first visit to Pad Thai and won't be the last. All the food was exceptionally good. Lots of flavours and good mix. Hosts were very attentive and helpful. A very enjoyable evening.

What a fantastic night, so, we had never eaten here before, West Malling is a half way point for my sisters and nieces and myself to meet up, and we couldn’t have been happier with the choice to eat here, we were looked after and welcomed by the owner as if we were eating in her own home, every dish was explained and how everything was cooked from scratch, and honestly as some what of a Thai restaurant expert I can’t tell you how incredible the flavours were, every dish was exquisite, it was honestly the best night I’ve had in a very long time, ok the decor might need updating slightly, but having eaten in many beautiful restaurants but receiving sub zero service and quality of food, I would choose this place in a heartbeat, we’ve already agreed a date to go back before Christmas. An absolutely incredible meal and the nicest owner who made us feel so welcome, thank you so much x (she also told my 60 year old sister she looked in her 30’s, so obviously she’s going back every week for dinner!)

What a wonderful little restaurant. Forget the slightly out dated decor, the food was utterly incredible. Plus the owner is such a fantastic host, she really made our meal marvellous, advising us on all the food, looking after us brilliantly and such a great personality. Well definitely be going back x

Do not go to Pad Thai unless you want extremely bad service and average over priced food. It is run by a couple he seemed nice but she was very rude. She took our order and because we didn’t want starters just prawn crackers while we were waiting she questioned that and started to list the starters available so i had to reassure her again we didn’t want any. Then as i was giving her our main course order I accidentally dropped a plate off the table from under the menu. I apologised profusely but it seemed this wasn’t enough. She proceeded to tell me this was a plate from Thailand that cost £9.50 and she didn’t have another one. She then repeated this to my husband and then again to the whole restaurant in apparently an attempt to shame me. I was very tempted to leave but it was Saturday night and I knew everywhere would be busy and we wouldn’t get another table. So we stayed but unfortunately the food was very mediocre and expensive. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant at all and will never return.

We don’t go to this restaurant often enough, great meals, beautifully cooked and we now know what we’ve missed by not coming regularly. It’s a well establish restaurant manged by the owner. Ample parking to the rear. Highly recommended.

Food was excellent. They sat us at the table by the bar which is where everyone came in to collect takeaways or the staff congregated which wasn’t great for a romantic meal. Only one toilet so you have to plan in advance. But overall you go for the great food and service in a lovely building. Highly recommend the seafood red curry. I wanted to lick the plate.

We have had Take out many time before but for my other half’s birthday we decided to book a table.. The staff so welcoming the owner in a wonderful lady that took the time to explain about how so for the food is made from scratch in her restaurant.. the food is a 10 out 10 I would recommend anyone to try this place..

Had an amazing evening at the Pad Thai in West Malling catching up with a friend. Great food, service and experience. Staff were engaging and very knowledgeable about cuisine. Food was excellent and super fresh. Only one of two Thai Restaurants in the UK that makes pastes and sauces fresh on site. It’s a must go and looking forward to my next visit!

Excellent as always! We have been coming here for 20 years now. Came back for our 16th wedding anniversary tonight. The food and service has been consistently superb throughout the years. The best Thai food and experience!!

Food : very nice & tasty 5 big fat stars!! Service: female Asian Manager needs to work on her bedside manner. Rather abrupt .. work on that one .. honestly, it’s really nice for paying customers to be treated nicely. Hygiene: controversial to some, however, male barman was not smelling as fresh as he should. We kept getting wafts of damp dank sweat. I know some people sweat a lot .. however, I know other people could smell it too. Sorry, not sorry .. Definitely worth a visit as the food is very good.

Food was quite nice and served piping hot. It might be because we went late but atmosphere was non existent and a bit awkward at times. Overall - the restaurant is ok.

Best Thai I’ve had in a long while. The food was all fresh with authentic ingredients. The sweet chilli and plum sauce were all home made - delicious.

Great authentic fresh Thai food with a lovely Thai lady who takes pride in producing food from her homeland.

Lots of advice on menu choice and help with gluten free options and dishes that could be made GF. Fun host who made us very welcome. We got a corner table as requested and felt looked after.

I had this Tai restaurant recommended to me for a date. When we arrived we were seated quickly which was good as we were early for our reservation. When we went to order our food, we was told we had to have starters, even though we didn't want starters, just main dishes, and the lady serving us was very abrupt. The dishes were brought out fairly quickly, but we was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The rice dish was cold and completely stuck as one lump, the noodles were over cooked and had no flavor , and the rest of the food quality was very poor and didn't taste great at all. I was very disappointed with the whole experience, and definitely won't be going back again.

The Pad Thai Restaurant is by far one of the best I have ever frequented. Manta certainly knows her stuff and the whole team make you feel welcome the moment you walk through the door.

What a fantastic meal we had last night - very high quality food beautifully presented and served by the lovely proprietor . The dessert Kanom Tuoy was exquisite never tasted anything like it all hand made which takes hours . Thankyou

We love our visits to pad Thai. Great food, really authentic and fresh.

The food was absolutely perfection, so very well cooked and presented, and the taste was simply sublime. The service was respectful, happy, and knowledgeable. The owner was able to not only able give us advice about the best items to mix, but explained the processes of how they were made. Overall we really enjoyed everything and will definitely be doing again.

The restaurant is a lovely old building with a great atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service was very professional.

Atmosphere was perfect for us as we were early enough to get a choice of tables and chose one on its own with no other tables around it. Our opinion may have been different if we'd got stuck on one of the front tables where they're all very close together. The owner is clearly very passionate and knowledgable about sourcing the right ingredients to make the meals as authentic as possible. We took her advice on what to order to suit our own palettes and her advice was spot on. The meal was perfect with the different meals either good, very good or outstanding (The spicy stir fried pork was fantastic, as was the traditional Kanom Touy dessert which doesn't initially look that appetising but was like nothing we've ever tasted before). Aside from the above and beyond personal service offered by the owner, the remainder of the service by other staff was good. Price wise, £100+ (3 course meal inc. 4x drinks) seems pretty typical for a nice meal-for-two these days although it still hurts to spend it! We were full up by the time we left but I think without the Chicken Phad Thai side order (bought as security in case one of us didn't like our mains) I may have been left wanting. Will definitely return, no doubt about that. Disclaimer - We've eaten in Thailand many times and this restaurant is pretty close to being as authentic as it could be. The local food in Thailand tends to be a little more spicy but I think too spicy for most Brits, so Pad Thai Restaurant offers the perfect balance as an introduction to Thai Food, yet if you want it more Spice, the owner is happy to oblige!

I would very much like to thank Manta for her welcome and service for my wife and I to enjoy the experience of dining at Pad Thai. First the negative and only negative .. I found out I didn’t particularly like Thai fish cakes … nothing wrong with them and my first time trying them - just feel not to my palette - but you gotta try something to find out as they say The main dishes red curry , fragrant rice with egg prawn and pineapple was delicious… I mean sensational. The prawn were big and tender and it really compliments the Red Thai curry which we had travelled some distance to try .. I also had the vegetable with Chillie and garlic , which again although quite small in portion side complimented the dish without overpowering it . My wife had the noodles with prawns and spring rolls to begin with and what I shared was beautiful, tasty and my wife who is quite fussy said it was one of the best dishes she’d ever had . I enjoyed Mantas company , her education on how to eat Thai food , certain recommendations she guided us towards and the flow in keeping the food in a timely manner made the whole evening very worth while . . The ambience and surroundings make for a pleasant quiet meal and the exterior Tudor facade with internal rich dark ceiling wooden beams stretching across the dining area make it just that little more exclusive. I will return again and hope to expand on the menu a bit more - dip in and try something else because I like a restaurant that has a little more character and a personal touch and I feel Manta really delivers on that .

I've been coming here for nearly twenty years and it's still my favorite restaurant! The food is easily as delicious as any I've eaten in London restaurants (or Thailand for that matter!), and Manta and her partner are just lovely, friendly people. Highly recommend.

Lovely food just really tiny portions and expensive. The young waitress was a bit sarcastic for no reason.

We booked last minute today and seemed lucky to get a table. It was our first time visiting pad Thai and will not be the last! Food was amazing we went with the lovely owners recommendations and was so impressed thank you! We’ll be back x

Avoid like the plague. 7 of us went for a pre-Christmas night out & unfortunately it was the only restaurant we could book. My friend ordered a Mojito, unfortunately it didn’t look or taste like a Mojito so it got sent back & said we didn’t want to be charged for it but the owner argued that another table drank theirs but didn’t get charged in the end. My husband & I wanted to share a rice but she told us that it would be too small & had to order one each when we don’t eat a lot. The owner was rude all evening. The whole evening was a nightmare with the owner’s rudeness & telling us what we could & couldn’t have. The food was very disappointing too, having travelled to Thailand the food didn’t seem authentic & the chicken was very tough & chewy. The list could go on but safe to say we won’t be returning. Good luck if you go!! PS we didn’t have 3 bottles of wine, my friend had 3 glasses at £11 each. We enjoyed our evening as a bunch of friends & said we had a good laugh for all the wrong reasons, it was the only restaurant my friend could book, she tried most of the West Malling restaurants. This wasn’t our first bad experience at The Pad Thai but thought things might have improved over the years. Clearly not!!

We have been coming for over 10+ years. Normally once or more a week, we love the quality of food and the friendliness of the owners , we have travelled the world and we still couldn’t find a better Thai food anywhere else in the world. We can honestly say this is the most authentic and delicious modern Thai you will ever find !!!! And we are a fussy eaters , we love the whole menu but will recommend few dishes to start with… sweet and sour potatoes , beef Panang curry, jungle curry, wok vegetable , chicken satay (the best peanut sauce you will ever taste) , sweet and sour tamarind beef, soups and many many more…. and the biggest star of the show is the owners special hand crafted over many hours Organic Coconut dessert !!!! Good service, restaurant was empty which is odd leading up to Christmas. the food was tasteless and greasy and appeared reheated. I couldn't order a pad tai as a main and in all the oadt thai restaurants I've been in including UK and Thailand this has never been the case. the prices were very expensive for the quality of food. won't be going here again.

Firstly, the food is good, but unfortunately the restaurant offers poor value for money. The portion sizes are too small and you need to order a lot in order to fill you up. Our bill was £130 for three people, which included 5 bottles of beer. I have no objection to paying over £40 a head in a restaurant that provides an ambience and offers some attraction to eating out, but it simply doesn't. It's a very tired restaurant with a strange management dynamic (think Fawlty Towers). I was not surprised that is was the only restaurant in the West Malling area with availability. As I say, the food is good, but value for money is poor and the dining experience is simply strange!

Food was good but felt like we weren’t allowed to order what we wanted or eat how we wanted because it wasn’t the “Thai way”.

Overpriced, tiny portion. Owner rude. Even table next to us was looking at us like "what is going on?!". We was told that food what we order will be to spicy, was bland without any spice. We was looking for any chilies which supposed to be in some dishes. We have found 3 pieces of chilies. Really disappointed, especially that we paid £170 for a meal. That includes two alcoholic drink and two soft drink. Any takeaway food will be better than that. Also tables are so close to echothers that make you uncomfortable. Avoid. I only can feel sorry for waitress in there. You could clearly see that women who run the place have no any respect for them. Really bad experience. Will never come back. If they claim that they run the place for 26 years, I think they need to realise that people expectation are higher then years back. Especially if they charge so much. Avoid!!!! If you have so many bad rI think is time when you look back at your services and charges. You are in wrong I'm afraid. Ii you can't take it is your fault.

Another lovely meal in here. Group of 6 and we all throughly enjoyed each dish. 2 people shared a set menu and the rest ordered their own. The owner really takes the time to explain the dishes and you can see she is clearly very passionate about her food and her home country. We were seated by the door so every time someone opened it, it got cold (it was a very cold night). Obviously beyond their control and certainly not a complaint but if you feel the cold, take a scarf or something or ask to be seated away from the door. Already looking forward to going back - always have great food and great service in there!

It’s been a couple of years (post-Covid) since our last meal here. I am happy to say that all is well and the food is as good as ever.

It is a lovely restaurant. We have been there 4 times now. The food is excellent but the service is quite slow. Also the prices are very expensive and they add a service charge. It cost us £190 for 4 people. I thought that was abit steep but as I said food lovely.

First time here on a Saturday night, all started out ok until about an hour into being there and no one had taken our order. When we finally ordered and the food had arrived well, the food was ok, we've had better at other Thai restaurants. We ordered a set meal between 4 people, the starter was of a decent proportion but the mains were very small considering the price. The service was somewhat questionable, the manager will only take orders and had young girls running around cleaning up and brining food to the tables. Maybe if they were allowed to take orders and own their own tables the service may improve. Overall we wouldn't go back as it was very overpriced and the service was pretty poor considering the restaurant has apparently been there for 28 years!

Always have a lovely meal here. Our teenage boys really enjoyed it too. As with everything at the moment, it was very expensive, though.

Not sure what has happened to this place since it used to be "ok" but now it is just horrible. Literally had the worst pad thai in my entire life that didn't even look or taste like a pad thai. Prices are extortionate as well. Friends ordered a pork main that looked less than an appetizer portion, and pineapple fried rice that just didn't taste aromatic at all (more like plain and no effort). Save your money and go to Maidstone for proper Thai food. edit: Can't reply to a reply so here I am. I lived in Asia for half my lifespan and some of it was spent in Southeast Asia (with the other half spent in Los Angeles) so I trust that I know my thai food. It's hard to please me when it comes to Asian cuisine so there's places in England that I just tolerate and some like Wagamama that just goes right to the avoid zone. This is the 3rd time I've ordered takeaway from here, with the last time being maybe 2 years ago because as I mentioned I thought it was just ok.

Food was good. But there was no atmosphere at all. Owner was quite patronising about how we should fill our plates from our selected dishes, and pushy with offering extra dishes. Was quite expensive too, certainly more than we had anticipated. Overall 3/5.

I cant recommend this restaurant enough. The food is always great and we always get a warm welcome. The owner is very passionate about her food and culture, and helps you get the most out of your experience. The food is cooked fresh, with ingredients imported from Thailand. From what I have learnt from the owner, Thai food is all about small portions being shared between people, not just ordering one dish each and chucking it all on a plate. If you want cheap food that you just chuck down your neck don't go, but if you want to enjoy your food savor the flavors and have a bit of Thai culture, this is the place for you. I would recommend taking advice from the owner when ordering your food. She has never stirred us wrong, just tell her what you do and don't like. She will then advice you on your options and how to best enjoy your night out. The last thing I would say is, don't let a bad review put you off trying this great little family owned restaurant not everyone has the same tastes, but you don't know if you don't try.

The lady who owns this place is so proud of what she cooks. Everything is made from scratch and she puts so much care and attention into the food. She also explained in detail how she made it with her own hands. The food was delicious and everything cooked fresh. The only reason I scored low in the ambience is because we were the only people in there as an early sitting at 5.30pm but it was due to be full at 7pm.

Terrible do not waste your time or money! The chicken was hard, dry and really chewy! I really hope it was not frozen or could it be way over cooked! Who knows even the owner doesn’t know why it’s so hard! The lady owner is awful so grumpy and rude, forcing us to order things we don’t want, charging extra for small changes and the portions are so small and expensive. It is over priced for what you get and there is no ambience because of her hostile manner. I question the hygiene level. She has zero customer service skills along with a stinking attitude. To pay service charge for bad food and experience is annoying especially because she kept cleaning while we are eating to have someone constantly reaching over in your personal space while you try to eat is unacceptable. She waits over you while you dish up and takes plate before you even have a chance to chew your food. When I politely requested to stop cleaning and wiping every speckle that falls on the table she said that’s their policy! I again requested that we would appreciate it if she would stop as we are done and ready for the bill then she can clean once we leave. She ignored and carried on then deliberately leaving the dirty tissues on the table after scooping up bits of rice. (Almost in a strange stroppy way) She said she’s not putting the bill book down as the table as its still dirty! Which is actually wasn’t hardly. It was sarcastic, unnecessary and a childish remark to make. We have been here twice only in past 10 years as it’s only local Thai trying to avoid as her rudeness put us off but because there is not other Thai in the area we gave it another go. Last 2 times meals were ok but small but along with a good helping of rudeness but we thought we can just tolerate it but now the food quality is bad there is no chance we will be returning. Im surprised this place is still open, they get away with it because there’s no other Thai nearby. The cost of living is so high for everyone and to pay so much for a bad experience is unacceptable. She doesn’t care because somehow they are surviving staying open. The man owner I feel sorry for as he tries to give a warmer welcome. But we didn’t see him again after he gave us the menus. When I said the chicken is so hard and chewy she said I don’t know why. It is obvious that she is highly driven by how she can get the customer to over order and pay extra for any small requests as only cares about how much money she can make. She herself kept saying their portions are so small so we must be sure to order more! So sneaky to charge almost double for the price of the their rice price just to request coconut rice and on top of that say only if you order more portions then we can do that! It’s all about how best can we rip off this customer. It’s like she’s doing us a favour by being there. We paid way too much for what we got along with the extra helping of rudeness making it an unpleasant experience. Quite frankly we didn’t complain as it wouldn’t even be acknowledged instead would have proberly make a scene and just spoilt our mood even more. We will definitely not go back! The sooner the better it will be if they sell up and allow someone else to fill that space so we can have a all around nice Thai experience in the area.

We booked online and was given the option to sit outside. On arrival was taken to the back room next to a toilet. We appreciate it was not the warmest evening but an acknowledgement of the change would have been appreciated. It was my partners birthday and it was not the ideal location, when you can hear the toilet flushing and a member of staff sitting at a bigger, better table watching a loud sports programme on a tablet. The food was tasty and seasoned well, however, the chicken was dry and chewy. Happy with the advice and food portions. Unfortunately, the restaurant lacked ambience and quality and we are very unlikely to return.

When we booked online it offers you the option to choose an outside table, we arrived and was offered a small table next to the toilet, we appreciate it was not the warmest of evenings but an explanation / acknowledgment would have been nice. It was my partners birthday and could hear the toilet being flushed throughout the meal. A staff member/manager had a better table then us and was watching sport loudly on a tablet in between getting the odd drink and several wines for himself. The food seasoning was good, however, the chicken was very dry and chewy. Happy with the advice on ordering and portion sizes and the waitress service. Overall, unlikely to ever return due to quality and ambience.

Good authentic Thai food but unfortunately devoid of atmosphere. Guess not many people eat out for Sat lunch and, if they do, probably don’t eat Thai food! What it lacked in atmosphere, it made up for in the quality of the food though and no doubt this evening the place will be rocking! Our first but won’t be our last visit, for sure

The food is always very good, we enjoyed our meals very much. Portions are always a little on the small side for the price but we didn't come away feeling hungry. The place is looking a little tired now sadly and could do with a refresh, but after the last few years I can only imagine how tough it's been for the owners and they still have all the passion for the food they are serving which is the main thing. We will be going back again.

Quality of the food is very good, good menu selection. It was never cheap but prices have increased, we paid around £50 per head, and the portions were not particularly generous for the price. Used to be the case that you needed to book 2 weeks in advance to ensure a table, but the place was half empty (maybe price sensitive ?), but as a result, it lacked atmosphere, although the setting is very nice.

Absolutely fantastic! Food was so delicious, full of so much flavour. The owner of the restaurant makes it such a personal experience, taking every table’s order and recommending dishes. The lovely waitresses were also fantastic, proving excellent service. Seriously cannot recommend this restaurant enough and will definitely be back. Food & service is top notch.

We went to Pad Thai for an early dinner as we were driving from Brighton to London. The restaurant is in a 15th Century building, which is worth a visit just because it’s so old and quite unique. The owner was not at all ‘pushy’; she was just enthusiastic about Thai food. We had the satay and the Thai dim sum. Both were fine. We followed this with a green curry with prawns and a panang with beef. Now I’m not a dessert person but the description of the desserts we tried has converted me. The Kanom Tuoy - steamed Thai coconut - and the Kanom Gluoy - steamed Thai bananas - were both unusual and exceptional. We drank some New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that was perfectly fine. It’s not cheap but you get what you pay for. A real find.

Overpriced, tiny portions, pressured to buy more, extortionate drinks £5 for small bottle of beer. £7.95 for tea plate of raw vegetables, £12.95 for tea plate of sliced pork, tea cup size portion of rice, Food was nothing like Thai food. Thai lady owner running around ordering staff about who looked fed up with he and caused a no relaxing atmosphere. I will never go here or recommend and feel robbed. Avoid.

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing staff and great if you have any allergies. Great for all. I am gluten free (have coeliac disease) and they made sure everything I eat was safe. Best Thai restaurant I have even been to. Food was cooked fresh to order and the atmosphere was great. Small restaurant but huge on everything else.

Great food and attentive service, a perfect combination

The lady who runs this place is quite pushy and basically tells you what you can and can’t order and is quite blunt/unfriendly . Food was average wouldn’t go back.

Loved the mixed starters . My red chicken curry was ok but chicken was a little bit dry! Interesting and gorgeous Thai dessert. Great rose wine pic poul which was lovely and very reasonable.

Delicious 🤤 we arrived 30 mins early but were made to feel super welcome I was guided as to what to eat and it was all fabulous highly recommend can’t wait to go again .. lovely little touch in the car park with the lanterns a perfect little gem 💎
