Lunch today, nice and quiet as 11 45 , so not many in and meals good portions staff very friendly and obliging as requested extra serviettes. Prices good only one problem salt was wet but would still go back as I use too much salt anyway and I could have asked for another salt seller. Have 6friends who lunch for each other’s birthdays so will suggest going here.

Over the years we have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions and had our Christmas meal last year and never been disappointed, however this is our first visit since Pacos departure and we were very surprised in the deteration of the food. We were not asked by any member of staff if the meal was satisfactory both my wife and I were very unhappy, you could actually slice my mashed potato the rest was tasteless.

We had a fantastic Easter Sunday lunch. The waiting staff were really nice and tuned onto my kids needs - extra gravy and Yorkshire puds! You will pay slightly more than some local places but it was well worth it for the extra service and lovely lunches.

Four of us visited Paco's last night and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We ate off the set menu. £14.95 for two courses and definitely worth the money. The standard of food was very high and the staff were efficient too. Recent pub meals I have had have been of a similar price but not of the same quality. The restaurant wasn't very busy. I really feel The Gibside and Paco's are missing a trick and need to advertise more than they do. The restaurant seems to be a bit forgotten about which is a shame as it is very good.

Staying in the Gibside Hotel it made sense to to try the in house Paco's restaurant. Had the hot salmon starter which was freshly cooked and very tasty, followed by the Oven baked Cod on a pea risotto. I know 2 fish dishes but both excellent and enjoyable. Dessert was marmalade bread and butter pudding again very tasty an all round enjoyable meal

Lovely meal in a comfortable restaurant, we had hammock terrine and seared tuna to start followed by rib eye steak cooked rare and blade of beef with horseradish mash. The service was excellent and staff attentive, the restaurant was quiet but we were told its advisable to book on weekends. The only thing I could fault were the wipe clean table covers on top of the table clothes, why? Price was excellent with generous portions.

The night started with welcoming staff, we then enjoyed our starter followed by the main meal. We had plenty of time in between both course's and drinks were offered at all times. The meals are good sizes so there was no room for sweets, we found drinks and meals reasonable for this type of restaurant.

Just an update on my experience of The Gibside Arms Whickham. Havung been a favourute restaurant of mine for numerous years having regularly dined there simetimes two of us upto twelve. Earlier this year we celebrated my wifes 50th burthday here 17 of us spending a lot if money. My wife and i visited in November and enquired around my 50th on 30th December, Paco being his helpful self said no problem and would sort a set menu out for my guests and i . Havung told my party 26 of us i got un touch today to be told they could not do this. I am both dusappointed and angry at this and shall not be returning here either for a meal or drink! I did receive my 50 pound back so will hopefully be able to find an establishment that fulfills their promises . So if anyone visits Pacos on 30th December ut will prob be its normal empty self , no wonder on how they treat regular diners!

My wife, son and I decided to go out for a meal but could not decide on the type of cuisine to eat. Living in Whickham we decided to give Pacos a try, as they have a range of food on offer we all could probably choose from.On arrival we were met by Paco who escorted us to our table and presented us with two menus, the regular menu and a festive dinner menu. We chose the festive menu and firstly we were presented with some honey bread and butter before our starters and I have to say this was the best bread I have ever tasted. My wife chose a Parma Ham starter and my son and I chose smoked salmon and prawns which were plentiful and delicious. For our main course my wife and son chose the traditional turkey and I opted for the blade of beef which you could cut with a spoon it was so tender. We received a huge terrine of veg which consisted of green beans, carrots and cauliflower and we're all fresh and piping hot. The size of the portions of our main courses left us ready to bust and we still had more food to go. All the main courses were delicious and extremely generous and could not fault one item.We decided we couldn't eat any more and we asked could we get our desserts to go which they said no problem which my wife and I took the cheese board and my son opted for the Baileys cheesecake. I had also left what could only be described as a "slab" of beef from my main course which Paco kindly vacuum packed it to take away for our dog. They then returned with coffee and mince pies and after dinner chocolates and they even packed the mince pies to go as we could not eat another crumb. Once we received the bill they also presented us with some boiled sweets which we just could not partake as we had a mountain of food to eat and take away. The service throughout was impeccable and a nice relaxing ambiance to the restaurant where you don't have to shout over each other due to the noise of other guests or kitchen noise. There are other much cheaper restaurants in Whickham but the food and service does not compare anywhere near Pacos which you should give your tastebuds a treat and give Pacos a try.I am sorry Team but you have another three fans who will be returning to sample some more of your wonderful food. Thanks for a brilliant experience and the best review I have ever written about any restaurant we have visited anywhere in the world.

Pacos is a great restaurant. Run by the Paco himself, the service is first class from arrival through to departure. Don't be put off in thinking that this is just 'a hotel restaurant' as it's far from the truth. The food is superb and Paco and his team cannot do enough to keep you happy and ensure you enjoy the experience. The menu is predominantly traditional english food and is priced very reasonably for the quality. All in all I thoroughly recommend Pacos for any occasion.

Visited Gibside for a few beers with some friends, ended up ordering six steak meals after seeing diners tucking into some fab looking grub. We were seated at a large round table in the upstairs bar/lounge,ideal table for a bit of chit-chat while dining. Within 15 minutes of ordering we were devouring delicious food, steaks were ordered medium-rare and medium and arrived as requested, the accompanying veg and chunky chips were ideal partners for the prime beef. I would recommend the creamy peppercorn sauce which was heavenly. The real ale went down well also and we will be back soon to repeat the joyfull evening.

Two courses for 12.95 may seem a bit much, but not for the quality of the food. I enjoyed every mouthful. A total treat for me. A quorn bolognaise pizza! Would have it again tomorrow. Without going into too much detail I explained that I was in a wheelchair and she was very accommodating towards me and my family. When we arrived for our 1:30 PM reservation and we open the door which leads through into the restaurant the staff welcomed us with great delight my sister used to work here and she was giving great big hugs from the staff the staff were very polite and attentive. The food was absolutely fantastic I have been coming here for many years and the food has always been outstanding. There is lots of different options for people at this establishment. We all had the turkey roast which was cooked to perfection well done to the chefs for doing such an outstanding job on the cooking.. It came with a huge Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes again they were cooked to perfection and then came the vegetables which were lovely with lots of choice and again cooked to perfection. What have I missed out? Oh of course the cranberry sauce and stuffing cranberry sauce was gorgeous and the stuffing was beautiful. Lovely restaurant in relaxing surroundings, Sunday lunch is very pleasant with great service from friendly staff. Starters, mains and desserts all individually priced so it does hit the top end of the market price wise for 3 courses and a coffee. Slight criticism would be the veg which is the easily boiled and thrown together variety, cauliflower/carrots/green beans whereas mashed swede, buttered cabbage would be better substituted for a traditional Sunday lunch, but that's just my personal taste. Highly recommended.

I was staying in the best western hotel attached to this restaurant for business and out of laziness went to eat here because it wasn't far. Best choice I've ever made, not only was the food exceptional but the staff were wonderful and attentive. As a business woman eating alone sometimes it can be a bit daunting but the staff made me feel comfortable and welcome, chatting away and giving suggestions as well as getting my table ready for me each evening I stayed (with extra bread to nibble with my drink). I have lived in the area for a number of years but never happened upon Paco's but I'm so happy I have found it! It's part of the Gibside but doesn't really feel part of it - it has a real ambience to it. The food was excellent, the menu got the taste buds going. I had oven baked goats cheese tofu with brioche for a starter and then cod, spring peas, potato fondant and shallots for my main. I had cherry bakewell for dessert too - not often do I bother with a dessert but the food was so good that I felt I had to! My party also had the beef bourginon and horseradish mash which was apparently delightful. One of the best things about the place is the staff - they exude warmth and make you feel really welcome and special. My one complaint is that they don't promote themselves - why they don't use Facebook or twitter to drive in customers is beyond me! Anyway, it's a real gem and worth the few quid more that you'll pay at the likes of Deano's, Santana's or Sorella Sorella.

First I want to say that I am very sorry to give a negative review to Paco's restaurant. We have been many times before and had a wonderful experience and even chose to have our daughter's wedding reception here. However this review is based on the last occasion that we visited which was a few weeks ago. We had booked a table for ten people, a group that had been to the restaurant several times previously. The table was booked for 7.45, so the whole group was there for 7.30 so that we could order our meals, have a drink and then sit down at the appointed time. Paco was on holiday and I have to say that when he is there everything runs like clockwork and attention to detail is second to none. However on this occasion service was dire. We had to ask several times for a drinks waiter and in the end my husband had to go to the bar, to be told by the attendant that he had only been there one week and wasn't sure what he was doing. At 8.15 we were still not even taken to our table so my husband asked what was going on to be told that there was a bit of delay in the kitchen but we would be taken through shortly. At 8.30 he went to speak to the lady in charge again only to see her taking a party through who had booked later than us. By 8.45 we had had enough. Some elderly members of our party did not want to start eating so late, so we put on our coats and again approached the maître de who said she was just coming to get us. The worst aspect was the fact that at no time during our wait did she or anyone else come to us to apologise, explain or ask if we needed anything. Every approach was made by us. We put in a written complaint and I was contacted by the manager, who apologised and said he had spoken to the person in charge. He agreed that the service we had received was unacceptable and blamed a lack of staff. I don't think this is good enough, and no offer of any thing to tempt us back, eg a bottle of wine with the meal was given. That doesn;'t matter as we won't be returning, which is a shame. This is the first negative review I have written but I feel very strongly that the service we were given let down Paco who is wonderful,,and the hotel in general.

Never even heard of this place, we used this for conference facilities and decided to have dinner. It was early evening so at 6pm the restaurant was quiet, I would expect this, 9of us chose a variety of starters and main courses, having no pre conceived ideas of the place I didn't know what to expect. The restaraunt was pleasantly decorated and a nice ambience. The starters didn't fail to impress, the scotch black pudding egg was excellently cooked, the French onion soup was top drawer and the soup of the day, a vegetable broth was very well stocked. All agreed these dishes were good. My own main course of cod, ratatouille was excellent, served with pea purée and a bed of mashed potato. Other dishes equally good were braised duck breast in a red jus, pasta bolognese, rib eye steak (nicely done to request) and good old fashioned surf and turf. Everyone agreed the dishes were excellent and fresh, if I were in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate and would definitely use the conference facilities. Recommended!

This restaurant is in Whickham, North East England and not Ireland, this is a T.A. typo.Good service initially but no sign of staff when we needed to make a request, we were seated under an air-con unit in an almost deserted room, which blew hot air down on us, we had to ask for this to be turned off. The food was below average, overcooked dry chicken, not a hint of any succulence, and I left 3/4 of a very oily pizza. I did complain when a staff cleared and was questioned as to why I hadn't said anything earlier, this was because I really did not want another low quality meal or to eat after my party had finished, the evidence on the plate was testimony to my dissatisfaction, any other establishment would have deducted this, however this was not the case and as a result we will not be back. How to lose customers, ignore complaints and do nothing.

Visited here with a friend for lunch, Pub was quiet but very welcoming , the assistant mamager Joanne couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome, we asked a few questions about the food items which she was able to call down Charlie the lovely chef who was very knowledgeable and eventually cooked and presented our food lovely . We had chicken schwarma which was really tasty and presented well, salt and chilli chicken with a katsu curry sauce which had so much flavour and colour, the food was got and served within 15 mins , we received a check back and a bit chat with Joanne who was leady offering us more drinks and recommending dessert to get us thinking ahead , we ended up having the lava cookie and jam rolly polly, again, really tasty and overall great value . Can't wait to go back for the service and the great value food, keep up the good work team bay horse . Ash xx
