Not for the first time, there was a very limited selection of foods. Some of the sections were bare. Unfortunately the jacket potatoes were not available and the sandwiches were not covered and curling bread did not look appetising. Very little healthy option in the hot food section. We left to go elsewhere as did another couple.

Consistently excellent food - we can't fault it at all and every meal we've ever had there has been tasty and beautifully presented. The cafe area and toilets are spotlessly clean. However I have one criticism: on our most recent visit (Tuesday 20th May 2024), the young woman serving the tills had a casual approach to hygiene. We ordered one soft drink and one coffee and she picked up a glass for the soft drink with her fingers holding the edge of the glass rim, rather than the base of the glass. She then did the same with the coffee cup, rather than use its handle. Given that she's handling money, we were very uncomfortable that she'd put her fingers all over where our mouths were going to go and we had to use wipes at the table to clean the rims of the glass and cup. This young woman needs to be taught to handle only the bases of cups and glasses to avoid contamination and the spreading of germs from her hands after she's been touching money.

Very nice breakfast but would have enjoyed it more with toast. Due to suffering with a gluten intolerance I was unable to have toast, due to the kitchen only having one toaster. I'm sure such a successful business they could afford a separate toaster. I would like to see more dietary requirements catered for.

I use otters in Wincanton often and it's always been okay. The staff are usually lovely except one lady who has worked there for some time now and she is the rudest person I have ever come across. My heart sinks when it's just her on the till. How no body else has complained about her is beyond me or maybe they have. She clearly hates her job!

I ordered the scampi and chips and my husband had wanted the ham egg and chips but because they had run out of ham they offered him 3 sausages, eggs and chips instead. Both of the meals were delicious and the portions were ample. We both had a slice of the yummy Victoria sponge which we struggled to finish. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. They have an excellent system in place to show what tables have been cleaned and are available to be used and what tables still needed cleaning. The tables are well spaced and we both felt very comfortable and safe. It was spotlessly clean and is well worth a visit.

I purposely arrived towards the end of the day to avoid crowds (Covid) but all of the tender plants in and out had already been covered over with fleece by the time I got there at 5pm. Advertised as closing at 5.30pm (I even checked with a member of staff). All the plant trolleys had also been brought in which meant moving around with my trolley almost impossible. If you advertise being open until 5.30pm then all of your products should be available for me to purchase. My large shopping list stayed in my bag and I left. I won’t be returning sadly. Hugely disappointed.

In the shop, I laid down on the counter my items before paying to be shouted at to "stand behind the plastic" My response was I understand but I need to pay and we are wearing masks anyway .... At this point she ranted that she was putting her life at risk by serving me and hundreds of other customers on a daily basis. I saw another member of staff looking over at her so it was clear this wasn't a first maybe! I will not return after this experience. Back to Dobbies.

We visited the Otter Garden Centre for the first time. The Christmas section was almost complete and we made a start on some early presents. The plant layout at the back was good but found it a bit awkward when with a trolly load of goods wanting to look at the items outside of the entrance. Café was great with all the measures in place that you would expect at this time. Staff were friendly and the cake and good choices excellent. Will definitely return

Terrible experience and will never buy from here again. We have used this garden centre regularly over the past few years and were fully intending to purchase a large number of plants and one or two garden statues following the completion of work to our garden. We arrived today to collect a planter that we had ordered online. We were asked by a member of staff to drive our car down a small access track and were then taken to see the planter - just to check that it was the right one. I said that I would go and pay for the item and my husband, with the help of the member of staff, was going to put the planter into the car. When I returned after paying the gentleman we had spoken to was nowhere to be seen so we decided to put the planter into the car ourselves. We were then approached by another member of staff, a stocky young man with dark hair, who demanded that we tell him what we were doing there. We explained what had happened but this appeared to have little or no effect on this individual who reiterated that we shouldn't be there and started to inform us of the company's health and safety policy. He then demanded the name of the person who had told us to park there. We didn't know the chap's name so this officious individual starting phoning people and asking each person, in turn, who had shown us down to this area. We felt that he didn't believe us and continued to try and explain that we had been told to drive our car down there and then had been taken beyond the gate to look at the planter. We were putting the planter into the car when yet another member of staff arrived and asked if we were all right. The officious individual then started to tell this new victim the saga. My husband had had enough by this time and made a comment that the other man wouldn't stop going on about it. The culmination was that the officious individual slammed his hand against a sign on the gate several times before marching off. At this point my husband and I both agreed that we didn't want the planter having been spoken to in such a way. We unloaded it from the back of the car and my husband drove the car to a parking space whilst I went to obtain a refund. I asked to speak to a manager and I have to say that the lady who spoke to me was really lovely, extremely professional and couldn't apologise enough. As I pointed out to her, not only was the officious individual rude but that, as customers, we did not need to be witness to him phoning different people in order to find out who had told us to park where we had. I feel sorry for the other staff at this garden centre who have always, until now, been so helpful. Having had an experience like this, we won't be returning.

Have had a roast dinner here on several occasions but it's ruined every time by awful roast potatoes. They are not fluffy inside like a roastie should be but very wet and scolds your mouth. The taste of them is like no potatoes i've ever tasted either. If a restaurant has a roast on the menu then the potatoes must be right but unfortunately they are not by a long chalk. Apart from the roast potatoes the food is very good and at reasonable prices. We shall be going again and again but not for the roasties.

We very regularly visit Otters cafe. As in at least once a week sometimes twice. All the staff are very helpful and friendly and always used to adapt a meal and the price for my mother who has a small appetite but they have been told they are not allowed to do this anymore. This is a real shame and not very customer friendly. I also think a light bites menu option to the the main meals would be a good idea for the same reason. If your having a reduced size meal then a reduced price makes sense. These days it should be all about the customer requirements. Nice good quality food at reasonable prices.

We are regular users of this restaurant and being diabetic I usually have a scone and my wife has cake. I asked the lady serving us if I could have a scone instead of cake and she said no only cake on the bottom shelf. The scone would have been over a pound cheaper. On the bottom shelf were three different tray bakes and none of the usual sliced cakes were there. I had a square of the coconut cake and it was dry and my wife had a square topped with buttercream which was equally bad. Our view is that these cakes were made especially for the voucher and were certainly not worth the £2.50 price tag. This is very disappointing as previous visits have been good

We stop off here quite often and enjoy all that the garden centre offers. However, we feel the standard of the cafe has dropped recently. Today, there appeared to be only one member of staff serving quite a large queue of customers. The cafe appeared dark, dismal and cold with no atmosphere and the coffee has certainly gone down hill - served from a push button machine, our lattes were overpriced, watery and bitter leaving an unpleasant after taste. We were disappointed and will not be stopping off here again unless standards improve.

And then we went to the cafe for lunch, it looked ok from the outside with tables and parasols. Going in it looks like a ports cabin. There was a reduced menu due to some reverb works which was ok. We looked at the menu and ordered our food and drinks, the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and blaming the new toll system. Ok we were at the table and the waitress wandering round going table to table with our food even tho we had a table number! The food was average to poor for the money we paid. This nursery is just a few minutes from the Wincanton Hospital which we have to go to for Specialist Appointments, so it has become a bit of a lunchtime treat to pop along there afterwards and have a light lunch. Mainly Quiches, Panninis, Soup, Baguettes and Cod & Chips. The Fruit & Cheese Scones are huge and well worth a go. Every time I see the cakes galore I drool and have to move along......quickly before the calories jump on me. In the Winter they have some hot meals like Stews and Hot Pots. The coffee is good and I believe those that have the tea are pleased with it. Don't expect fancy food, but the meals are well prepared and fill that gap. The dining room is light and airy, nicely decorated and plenty of room between the tables. Everywhere is spotless, even the toilets. The staff are always friendly and helpful. As soon as people leave the table is cleared and wiped down ready for the next diners. Having a view of the lovely flowers in the garden centre is very calming and you cannot help but smile at the colours. Afterwards we always have a stroll round the garden centre and inside with all the items that are on offer. I have never yet been able to go home empty handed, there is always something you just cannot do without. This time we bumped into some friends in the restaurant and had a good natter, so not a secret venue.

I am a regular customer at otters but my last visit pushed me over the edge. The quality of the cakes in the cafe has gone downhill. They are all pre sliced before they are displayed now as well, this makes the cakes dryer than they already are. This is just one example of a general decline in the cafe which used to be outstanding.I have recently become wheelchair bound and thought that as Otters have chairs available to borrow, that it would be wheelchair friendly. Not so. The displays and in particular stock piled next to the shelves did not allow room for my chair to get around them. OK I thought so I can't shop but at least I can have a coffee. Again no. I had to wait outside in the rain whilst three members of staff who pushed passed went in to the cafe, and not one even held the door open for me or even offered to help. To be able to get in to cafe I actually would have needed their help as I was unable to get my chair over the step in the doorway. Gave up on that idea! All in all a disappointing afternoon and I'm not sure after 6 years of regular visits that I'll be be going back again.

I phoned the manageress to let her know. She was polite, but said they served 600 cups a day and I was the first customer to complain. There you have it! Dreadful attitude to something that may prove to be a health problem. They may clean the machine as she informed me, but I suggested they review the make of coffee their using incase it's cleaned or roasted in certain chemicals. Whatever the problem, it exists, despite the attitude. At least I tried.

Popped in with hubby, a rare day off so really looking forward to a nice treat. We ordered two cooked breakfasts with toast. Breakfasts delivered to our table were terrible. Horribly fatty bacon, overcooked rubbery sausage and mushrooms, hash browns, tomato and egg swimming in grease. I took one bite and could taste nothing but oil. I took it back and mentioned that we still didn't have our toast which was then made quickly. In the meantime we asked for a refund of the breakfast. Eventually somebody, I'm assuming the supervisor, came to the table with the refund and told me that all breakfasts are completely fried so will be oily and all other customers love it. We no, well made fried breakfast does not taste of oil. The hash browns were so oily they were completely soggy and totally inedible. I thought this was extremely rude, an apology would have been more appropriate. This is not the first time we have been disappointed here. We went for tea and cake but left without ordering after we saw a member of staff lift the chiller glass and spray it with Mr Muscle window cleaner a fine mist of which then settled all over the cakes! We did tell the manager on the way out but clearly the standards are just generally poor. We won't be going back.

Very handy for a nice lunch even if your not into garden stuff. Plenty of parking and easy access to the cafe (my wife is in a wheelchair). Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Not too expensive either.

We are always impressed wherever we go to be greeted with a smile.Visited the garden centre on 17th March 2016 and decided to try out the restaurant/cafe.We were greeted with a smile and served promptly. We decided to have tea and cakes and both were of the best quality and reasonably priced. The premises are smart, clean and welcoming and the toilets were spotless and tastefully decorated. As far as the actual garden centre is concerned we bought two items but on the whole we felt that most things were pricey. The service at the tills was also quite slow.Worth going though, if only for the restaurant.

Have been here a few times, mainly with colleagues. It's a modern, smart restaurant and the staff are friendly. Typical cafe-style menu but the food was decent enough. Care: very few gluten-free options.

Visited this place for the first time recently for a look around the garden centre (pricey) and decided to have a bite to eat - 2 x bacon, brie and cranberry jelly paninis and 2 bottles of diet coke - just over £10.00 which for a garden centre cafe isn't overly expensive. We noticed that the Sunday Lunches were quite reasonably priced. Panini's were good, plenty of bacon and cooked to perfection. As expected the place was busy with an elderly clientele, which seems to be the norm in most garden centre restaurants on a weekday! I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again, but would certainly visit if in the area.

Hubby and I are regulars at this garden centre as it is our local. They have an excellent variety of plants and a good selection of general items for the garden as well as nice ideas for presents - took my sister in Scotland a couple of your garden lights that changed colour - she loved them as they looked like thistles when they were lit. They are developing the clothing more in the shop eg scarves, bags, Joules clothing etc and recently jewellery. There are always nice cards to buy, particularly around Xmas time - boxed and single cards. Plenty of choice for items to buy and prices are fair compared to other centres in the area. Like to have a treat in the cafe if there is time. I particularly enjoy their hot chocolate drink with a scatter of chocolate dust on top. The cakes are really good and an average price for a slice and the cake slices are quite generous. Staff are always pleasant both in the shop and in the cafe. Nice clean, well maintained toilet facilities. Recommend a visit.

It s such a shame as the cakes look lovely, but the breakfast was not great. The bacon was leathery and indelible ( oven baked?) and the cost of a bacon sandwich was high compared to the price of a full breakfast. Coffee machine not switched on at 9.30 so had to have tea. We won t go back for a breakfast.

I regularly pop into Otter and have tried the breakfasts, snacks and meals. I've not once been disappointed. The portions or cake are huge so we often share a piece making it even better value. The savoury tea is a treat - large cheese scone with cheese, pickle and a lovely pot of tea. The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Toilets are always clean and tidy. It's not a 5 star restaurant, just good value well made food in a pleasant atmosphere with good service. Would recommend.

We recently visited to purchase some new plants for my mothers new garden. Which we found the staff very helpful so we thought we'd have a coffee and cake. What a pleasant experience nice clean cafe and great staff. All cakes seemed to be either home made or very good value. We'll be back and next time for a meal.

This restaurant is only open in the daytime, as it is part of the garden nursery. The staff are polite friendly and helpful. The food is of good quality and the cake portions are huge and look delicious but too big for me, which may put others off as well. The facilities, (toilets) are of a good standard but hot taps much too hot. In the summer you can sit outside under umbrellas, which is nice. It isn't large but is very popular, especially for Sunday lunch. The plants are good value but two things that slightly spoil it are, no dogs allowed anywhere and smoking is forbidden everywhere. I quite understand that nonsmokers do not wish to have people ruining their enjoyment of the food but I am in favour of a more relaxed attitude, especially as the outside is outside! So come on Otter nurseries, Put a couple of tables elsewhere for those that do and why the ban on dogs? You are losing customers by being so rigid, especially when some of us spend a lot of money there.

A great place to stop for coffee, lunch, or tea which rightly seems very popular with the locals. We enjoyed lots of tea and cake after a walk up Herne Hill (recommended) and my OH particularly enjoyed a Manhattan cake which was all chocolate mousse and orange. Great, friendly service as well.

Fantastic night for dinner, we always struggle taking our child out for dinner but we felt such at ease. We were greeted with friendliness, served fast for our drinks and told to choose a table! Food was delivered fast, hot and delicious! Lots of parking space, my son was given colours and colouring paper which kept him happy. We booked in for the Christmas breakfast with Santa and can’t wait 😍

My wife and I stayed for 2 night, expecting evening meals and breakfast as we were visiting Wells and Bath and Yeovil . I think it was a lovely pub at one time but not now. It did no food closed most nights , we visited other pubs for our meals very disappointing stay and would not recommend anyone to stay I think it will possibly close down very shortly.

Had been looking forward to visiting here for a while but was left disappointed. Unfortunately they dont seem to be well adverse with alligies. After informing them of an alligie within our party it's seemed that panic struck and we were told they couldn't guarantee that the food was suitable as the kitchen had various things made in it. We left hungry and disappointed
