We thought we would give The Osnaburg a try for lunch as it was all good reviews. Bad move. The lounge was a lovely setting...and that was as lovely as it got. The lemonade and blackcurrent drinks - could barely taste the blackcurrent. I ordered a sweet chilli chicken panini and chips. Chicken was not fresh cooked fillet. About half way through my lunch and found a hair on my plate underneath the chips. Looked like an animal hair. Complained and was not charged for my meal. I have to say it kinda put the others off from finishing their meals! We were the only customers in the place and the chef did not have the decency to come and apologise - disgusting and shocking treatment of his customers. On the night of our visit the bar was heaving so the landlady gave permission for my dog , who is well behaved, to be in the restaurant with us and the rest of our companions. The menu is excellent and varied, the sevice was just as good. Nothing was too much trouble. Me and my wife also spent a lunchtime there and the service in the bar was just as good. If I ever visit Forfar again I will certainly be visiting the "Osnaburg" again. I've had a lot of bar lunches all over Scotland but this was the best by far. Just went in on the passing. The bar was a bit dingy and there was dogs about and it really needs decorating to brighten the place up. Having said that, the lady behind the bar couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and the food was absolutely brilliant. My Husband had a pork dish with potatoes done four ways I think, on a side dish which was heaven for him as he loves potatoes. He cleared his plates and thought it was excellent. I had steak pie which was just perfect. There was loads of tender steak and the gravy was lovely. Homemade chips which you don't often see anywhere these days. The pastry was perfect and I had a side plate with 4 little dishes, one with green beans perfectly cooked. Baby carrots perfectly cooked. Broccoli in a sauce topped with melted cheese and a dish with asparagus, peas and bacon in a sauce. I wasn't too keen on that one but my Husband ate it. You do need a big appetite though as the portions were huge. It's not too expensive either and well worth the money

Dropped in on spec, and 1st impressions were not good. Didn't look like it was open, and didn't look like they were ready for customers at all. We were put through into the lounge area, which is quite cosy in ambience. Drinks came very quickly and we didn't have to wait long for our meals either. The waitress was 1st class, very polite and friendly. And the food? Absolutely brilliant, we both enjoyed it immensely. Very keenly priced too. The place could do with a freshen up and had clearly not been cleaned properly from a party at the weekend. The good food more than made up for it all though, we'll definitely be back!!

I was in the bar last night and had the Beef Wellington. It was absolutely gorgeous. Very tender and mouthwatering. I highly recommend popping in for some tasty food in a great atmosphere.

having eaten at the osnaburg bar for several months now ,i feel after the last review i must write another review , anyone that does any cooking at all must realise that to do home made chips in old unfiltered oil doesnt make crisp bit free chips . i have also been in the bar, before food is served and regulary seen the chef clean out the fryers and at end of the chefs shifts. clean the filters , the kitchen is very small and located at the side of the bar which isnt perfect and i suspect that the extractor fan cannot be turned up to full as the fire then draws smoke into the bar area !.Iam a none smoker myself but most catering establishments have private areas for staff to smoke ,the osnaburg unfortunatly doesnt (out of sight out of mind) i have regulary chatted to the chef out side ( who hasnt always got a cigarette in her hand ).I and my family have been again today for lunch as usual everything was superb , great atmoshphere .,great food , keep up the good work to all in the osnaburg !!!! EXCELLENT

Very friendly pub, made to feel welcome even from the pubs dog! The open fire was a particular pleasing.Food was of good standard and well presented. A few problem though. The place has a very bad of grease, doesn't smell like the filters or cooking oil gets cleaned enough, my clothes were stinking even the next day. Also the cook, although very nice and pleasant was always outside smoking in between cooking!! Not very hygienic .If these problems were sorted out would definitely visit again.

Decided to go out for lunch today and almost turned back because of the weather. So glad we didn't!We were passing the Osnaburg and I mentioned to my wife that they used to do great mince rolls about 25 years ago when I was regularly in Forfar on business!Nothing ventured we decided to go in and see if lunches were being served. We received a warm greeting from the landlady, who took our dripping wet coats whilst getting our drinks.I started with Puy Lentil Soup, which was a delicious meal in itself, served with huge chunks of bread and butter. My wife chose a Ploughman's Lunch, which was like no Ploughman's we had ever seen before. Served on a wooden platter, It had a great selection of cheeses, meats, pickles, bread and salad, and would easily have fed both of usI had Chicken Fajitas, which was served on a wooden platter, with a huge portion of chicken, 3 large wraps,, cheese, cream, sauces! crisps and salad with a portion of fresh homemade chips. Safe to say I won't need anything else to eat for the rest of today at least! We finished with coffee. In summary - a friendly warm service, with excellent quality food, and substantial portions. Obviously very popular with locals, and no surprise there.Well done everyone at the Osnaburg. We'll be back!

The view from the dining room was lovely and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, unfortunately, the food was not great. The lasagne tasted like a poor-quality frozen ready meal and the mac 'n' cheese was not very nice. The chips were good, though. Unfortunately, for several days afterwards I had an upset stomach. Apparently, due to staff shortages, their menu was reduced and maybe they didn't have the qualified staff who usually prepare the food. Maybe we were just unfortunate and did not sample their food at its best.

We came here for the first time for lunch. Nobody spoke to us as we came in, We had to ask if we should take a seat. We were then served by the rudest person I have ever witnessed. She was absolutely miserable and so so rude. Older woman, with shorter greyish hair and glasses. She made us feel like us being there was a massive inconvenience. She never smiled once. Just came over and stood at the table with a notepad and pen and waited until we spoke. Honestly just a horrible horrible woman. I am honestly shocked this woman works in a customer service job. Cost us £60 for lunch, only to be served by this women with a face like thunder.

Good fresh food, although the menu isn't very varied if your looking for lunch It's in a lovely setting and there's a small play park for children. Dogs are allowed and well catered for. There's plenty parking but this is where I felt badly let down. There is no allocated disabled parking! There was a challenging walk on my crutches from the carpark to the cafe as the surface isn't very wheelchair friendly. With the space available in sure there is an easy remedy and I'm sure we'll come back for more of the good food and see if they resolve the parking for the disabled.

Friendly staff, good service. Nice to sit outside and look out over the harbor. They do not serve food anymore, but they do have an ice cream bar daytime. Fair prices on the beer.
