Took my 6 year old grandson for a 'grown up'Sunday lunch and it was perfect. The staff were fabulous and really welcoming. The food was plentiful and good for a buffet style. I will definitely return with a family group.

We were delayed from entering the restaurant for 20 mins. Although nobody came over to explain why. Another customer informed us we should go back and wait in the bar. We actually couldn't get a drink in the bar because there was nobody serving. When we eventually got in the restaurant nobody bought any bread round there was hardly any cutlery ,no condiments . the beef was labelled as lamb and lamb was/labelled as beef. No sweet bowls. And had to ask twice for the tea and coffee . we have been coming to the Croydon park for some years and this was by far our worst experience also our friends who went the following week had the same experience and said they wouldn't be going back. Such a shame we have always enjoyed ourselves there but not sure we will be going back. I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone whereas before I have always said how lovely it was

We have been coming here for the festive lunch for 15 years. After this year, we won't be back. The dining room was not ready, despite people booking months in advance. We were in queue for 20 mins just to be seated. There were not enough staff to either take drink orders or replenish food. If things ran out you had to find a member of staff, ask, and wait. We had to queue for 15 mins for the buffet, there was no chance of revisiting it at that speed. It also meant that we were hemmed in with a queue looming and chatting over us as we sat for the entire time we were there. Selection of seafood buffet noticibly reduced. Poor atmosphere, poor quality and poor experience.

Inadmissible.

Using the buffet means that all food tastes can be accommodated. The starter table is so extensive that one could have a starter and main course from that alone, and it is the starter that is outstanding. But there is always hot food with plenty of choice and lots of vegetables, and usually a roast which is carved for you. It is an excellent place to entertain anyone whose food tastes you are not sure of, or anyone with a very large appetite as you can make as many trips to the buffet as you like!

A treat from Mum for all her daughters and daughters in law. The best I can say is she enjoyed having us all together for a matter....but that's where the positives end. We met at 1pm on a Saturday. Barely anyone in the restaurant, so no atmosphere and I what I can only describe as an eating experience in a time warp (about 1973)! Starters from a mixture of odd seafood and salad or tinned tomato soup. Mains sad and kept warm meat selections accompanied by overcooked veg. But the 1970s vibe was totally complete with pudding, which was hot tinned cherries and pancakes. Oh my...!!! I don't mind a buffet, but this is one experience I won't be repeating!!

We booked a table for an early evening meal, imagine our surprise to be told by the maitre d that the restaurant wasn't ready to be opened to the public, as they were still setting up! Time Management Training might be a good investiment for this restaurant or an increase in staff. The waitress who eventually served us, failed to mention there was a Carvery and that you had to request the chefs presence to carve. We unfortunately failed to spot the roast joint, as it was hidden under a silver plate trolley, next to the desert counter! So our main course was very disappointing, being presented, in our view, in an unappealing way, as it was being kept warm, in heated trays, school meal style. Although we saw little of our waitress, being mainly a self service restaurant, an investment in Customer Service Training might bring an understanding of positive customer engagement and the importance of communicating, need to know information. The best thing about our meal was the variety of cold food starters including a selection of seafood. We felt this large restaurant had no ambience, due we thought to it's dated decor and old fashioned layout and the time we were there, very few diners. We will not be returning any time soon.

I always try to give a balanced view on any place we visit but this was a trip down memory lane I wish we hadn’t bothered with. On the way to the restaurant we were trying to work out how long it had been since our last visit and we think it’s probably around 20 years!! Whilst I may have got a little greyer on top and wider around the middle I was surprised/shocked to see that the room hasn’t changed one bit? Both the décor and the layout has not changed apart from looking even more tired and in need of a makeover. Having said that, I still think that the room as so much potential. The food industry is huge right now and I am certain there is a talented chef out there who would love to get his/her hands on this venue. Staff The new maitre d (new to us as its been a while) was lovely. She greeted us in a very professional and calm manner which I prefer to the American over the top happy clappy welcome you can get at some places. On the basis it’s a buffet style restaurant that’s about as much as I can say about the staff. There were a couple of waiters/waitresses who were ok and helpful if they were asked to be. Atmosphere The noise in the restaurant is mainly an overflow from the adjacent bar which is not ideal really. Bare in mind the room seats over 160 people I reckon on our visit there were no more than 38 people so it was lacking in any real atmosphere. Food I think for the price you pay the standard of the food is really poor. There was a vegi soup that I reckon was from a tin. The selection of seafood looks good but doesn’t actually taste of anything because it’s been over chilled. I was underwhelmed by the meat selection for the main course and the veg was all a bit….dull. I suppose if you like quantity and not quality then it’s ok(ish) I think the restaurant exists for the purpose of the hotel and doesn’t have any merit as a standalone venue. With all the new apartment blocks popping up around the hotel I think that with some investment and a talented chef this place could be something really special. However, until something changes it may be another 20 years until we return.

Sent both mains back as they were cold , and both our wife’s starters where cold from the buffet . You shouldn’t let people book a table at 8pm if u have cooked and prepared the buffet at 6pm . You can’t leave food under the heaters for 2 hours and expect it to still taste nice and warm. Once we complained that all the dishes were cold our plates were taken away and taken to the kitchen . There was no apology , no “can we get you anything else” . Then they took the food from the buffet that we mentioned was cold and returned it with a silver cover over it .THAT DOESN’T KEEP FOOD WARM! It will make any heat that was in there sweat the food out and make it go soggy!!! That’s standard food prep etiquette! They never apologised and then said “as a jester of good will we will take off the food” It was horrible we didn’t eat it !! Well as a jester of good will ur lucky I even payed for my wine !! You can mess up a food order that ok everyone makes mistakes it’s how u over come them and make the customers Experience enjoyable . I would never come back here! Save your money And do yourself a favour and give the hotel a good clean or refurb because the 1980s decor is awful and the taped down carpet looks brilliant .....

The food we had was good. The starters were great. The roast beef was lovely. There is a good choice/range of food on offer and it is value for money. The wine was a bit grim. Wouldn't do the wine again and would buy a bottle that's not in the deal. The restaurant is a dated design - like going back to the 1980s. Quite liked it's dated faded look. Only criticism is there are little fruit flies around which is off putting.

We have visited Oscars Brasserie at The Croydon Park Hotel in Croydon on several occasions over the years. There is parking at the hotel to the rear. The restaurant itself is nice and there is a separate bar to sit and have a drink before dining. The cold “starter” section is excellent with everything you could want such as salmon, prawns, mackerel, sliced cold meats and different salads. The hot “mains” section includes roast beef, roast turkey, fish and other dishes with rice and vegetables etc. There are plenty of dessert choices too with coffee to follow. Years ago a half bottle of wine was included with the meal but that has not been the case for some time. You can help yourself to as much of the buffet as you want and the price is good for this. We have found the quality of food is not what it used to be - especially the hot food. The roast beef, which is carved on a separate trolley, is rather chewy and tough and the vegetables over cooked and the roast potatoes soggy. These problems can be overcome and the service is generally good. We were here last Boxing Day with the family and have booked again for Sunday lunch for the two of us in December so will see how it is.

This place is slowly going down hill, looking tired & worn in places too. As I sat down I noticed a huge stain on my seat, actually double checked to see if it was wet. The buffet could be a lot better. The turkey was dry & some of the dishes were a bit dry. The dessert section conditions needs to be improved. While I was helping myself to the chocolate gateau I disturbed a dozen fruit flys eating from it. It generally has everything you need to fill you up for a dinner. I was going to be having my birthday meal there, after our visit now it’s a definitely no no. This place could easily be the most classy place to eat in Croydon but for that a serious investment is needed to bring it back on track. The Competition isn’t exactly difficult in Croydon to beat. As with all places the clientele makes a huge difference too, that’s why I was keen on this place. Not any more... For that we award you the 2 circles.

We’ve been holding family celebrations at Oscar’s Brasserie for over 25 years. It’s very reasonably priced, quiet and spacious enough to have conversations, and the service is always good. But the range and quality of the buffet had, in my opinion, declined over the past few years. However, we were very pleasantly surprised by today’s spread. More choice of salads, the return of the whole salmon, vegetables that weren’t overcooked, and a good range of hot options. We enjoyed a really delicious meal, so well done and thank you chefs!

Two adults and two children (age 2 and 0) went for Sunday lunch with no expectations. The selection of food was extensive and good quality. The service was great and child friendly (Always a little dubious as to how we'll get on when we take the kids out). A good clean high chair arrived quickly. The turkey, Yorkshire puds and gravy were delicious. There were so many other choices of food/cuisines to eat including a good veggie selection (other than the traditional Sunday lunch). I followed up the main by sampling some of the extensive choice of cakes (I tried the chocolate, lemon mouse and cheesecake, which were all delicious) The dining room was busy with a nice atmosphere. I left feeling very very full and satisfied and probably won't need an evening meal tonight.

The egg mayo sandwich was strange as it tasted a bit sweet - not sure why. Have never had sweet egg mayo anywhere else. There was only 1 scone each which we had to send back as it was burnt and didn't taste very good. It also tasted very doughy. Can make much better scones myself.

The pizza was just OK enough, the pasta alright, the noodles has a bit funny taste, seafood great and the green curry was GREAT, according to the one eating it. The second night we all ordered buffet, which was quite nice. Some of the food was dry or overcooked, but all in all an OK buffet. LOTS of things to choose from, also in desserts. The atmosphere is cosy and calm, and nobody rushes you to get out. Lighting is a bit dark. All in all, an average meal and good value of food.

Visited for dinner with 3 other friends. I knew in advance that we were going to have the buffet as one friend has been on several occasions. I really should have chosen the a la carte! Food was OK but there was nothing in the mains that I would have enjoyed so I just had a few vegetables. I had a few of the selection for the starters and they were Ok but nohting out of the ordinary at all. The problem for me with any buffet is that the food is never hot enough. When a meal is supposed to be hot I like to see steam coming off it and I know this can't happen with a buffet. Food looked to be well cooked. Sadly the cheeses had been left out for too long and the cheddar has begun to get slightly dry. And they weren't covered with a dome so I just wonder if any flies had managed to go anywhere near them. The biscuits for the cheese were also left out in the air rather than covered. The restaurant is in a hotel which is a business class hotel and quite clearly is geared to serving the residents so no ambience at all. Something else which made me quite cross was the over-priced bottle of Prosecco. I think £33 is way too expensive in this kind of establishment. Staff were pleasant and happy and I'll go back if those friends want to return at some stage but I shan't be buying a bottle of Prosecco!

We had a family gathering at Oscars ages ranging between 16-89 for my parents 64 year wedding anniversary. The restaurant is nicely decorated but a little cold, very pleased I'd decided to take a thicker cardigan. It's a buffet style lunch which is idea for all ages and I'm sure the pickiest of eaters could find something to eat.All good apart from the main courses, the beef on the carving trolley was excellent but the mains under the hot plates were lukewarm and had obviously been sat there for a while (the pork had dried up). The vegetables again lukewarm and rock hard I'm all for Al dente vegeatables but these these had hardly seen any hard water! Presumably its to avoid mushy vegeatables over cooking on the hot plates. The staff very present but had to the chased to order drinks / wine and when I ask her if the house wine was dry or sweet she replied it wasn't dry or sweet so when I said presumably medium she said not really! Somewhat confusing! Again we had to ask twice for finger bowls, luckily my daughter had some wet wipes on her. Maybe it would be an idea to have a dish of individual wipes by the buffet, so people can take them on the way round if they have prawns to peel.Anyway, on the whole it's a good place to take a group of mixed ages the buffet is a set price and you can pay extra £5 to have wine included. The starters and dessers are excellent but mains courses let it down.

I am sorry to say that I was slightly disappointed with our recent visit to Oscars Brasserie in the Croydon Park Hotel for their Sunday lunch buffet. On previous occasions, there have been vast arrays of different starters to choose from but on this visit, there seemed to be something lacking (largely with the choice available!).The carvery beef was delicious as always, and there was a good choice of other main dishes. The vegetables were slightly predictable and un-fancy, although the red cabbage was delicious. And the desserts were a real let down, with only slices of pecan pie or carrot cake (which looked very dry) to choose from.We have visited this restaurant many times over the years and for the first time, I felt that it looked tired and in need of a bit of a revamp - not to remove the buffet altogether but just to bring back a bit more of the choice that has made this an exceptional venue for a special lunch in the past.It was good that they have acknowledged that not everybody eating would be drinking the half-bottle of wine, and so have priced the meals differently, which is a positive point, but I just felt that there was something lacking and left feeling quite deflated. Hopefully this was just a small slump and not the sign of a more consistent decline in standards here

Haven't been to this restaurant for a while. It's a buffet style place, but the selection had at least halved since I'd last been here. Mustapha and the staff are lovely, efficient and helpful, but for £16.50 for lunch (dinner is more) you'd expect a good variety. If you enjoy salad you'd love this place. However if your looking for a nice fish selection, main meal or pudding, don't waste your moneyCroydon Park Hotel- what's happened??

Visited the restaurant without booking. When we both mentioned we required a gluten free option our welcome went out the door! Shown to our seats and basically told what we could have which was an item not on the menu! It was clearly from the day before, tired and tasteless! The same for the sweets!Less than impressed for a hotel of this quality! We should not be penalised just because we both have a medical condition which requires us to have a special diet! You clearly also have NOT taken notice of the new legislation which means you should label your menu with allergen warnings! No sign of these in menu or on display!Disappointed with our visit and certainly will not be paying another visit any time soon

Was part of a Rotary Club party hosting European clubs on a visit to the area and frankly found the food and service totally unacceptable. This hotel had been used before and had been quite good but something has happened in the meantime. Staff were rude and unhelpful, the running on the buffet style help yourself carousel just didn't happen, food ran out and wasn't replaced. Just about got a starter. Main course horrible - cheap nasty ingredients and a choice of - chicken drumsticks, beef bourguignon that was mostly mushroom, meatballs or some sort of fish. about sums it up. Dessert terrible because it wasn't replaced once it had gone. As for getting a cup of coffee at the end - forget it. On top of all this the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. Looking back on the experience makes me feel nauseous.

Visited Oscars restaurant for Easter Sunday lunch, having been there several times previously.Being Easter it was busy, but the reception and waiting staff were still friendly, efficient and helpful. However, the main purpose of the visit was of course to have a meal. Unfortunately the food quality has fallen away compared to previous occasions. Sometimes a buffet can look really appetising. Not this one.Starters were quite good, though needing replenishment, but after that things weren't so hot - literally. My party had a varied selection of main courses, that you collect from a help yourself buffet, and were just lukewarm. I went for the roast pork. I assume it was in gravy to try to keep it moist (other hotels manage without this compromise), but it also was only lukewarm, the gravy was congealing in the serving dish, with a gooey (and lukewarm) apple sauce on top ( why when it is better served on the side?). Vegetables were just about warm as well, not hot. Dessert. By the time we got to the dessert table the selection was sparse and boring.Overall it was nowhere near a 4 star standard meal- other hotels do much better. We were also surprised that some wine was no longer included in the price. Whilst my fault for not reading the small print, it did mean the cost year on year had risen steeply. I e-m'd the manager offering what I thought was constructive feedback, but wasn't given the courtesy of reply.

Having read so many rave reviews about the place, I was quite excited. This quickly turned to disappointment. The food was edible but not great. The service was okay but not great. The atmosphere...non-existent; you are basically sitting in a huge, empty hotel dining hall - nothing like a brasserie. This felt more Fawlty Towers than four star rating. A big let down and certainly not worth the price.

For a very special birthday, my family (party of 12) and I had a fantastic meal at Oscars. The Maitre D was very accommodating and professional. The food choices and quality were fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the cold starters which consisted of dressed salmon, prawns, mackerel and other sea food dishes and salad. The restaurant is nicely furnished and comfortable. We were never rushed and was able to pace ourselves with the various courses. Would highly recommend for any occasions.

The staff cannot do enough for you, very friendly and attentive and nothing is too much to ask for. The food was also in the main very good. Starters and Desserts were excellent, the main course was only let down by the dreadful roast potatoes however the meats and fish were all cooked well and tasted great. Special mention to Patrick who waited our table, incredibly hard working and obliging, always with a big smile on his face.Would love to go again next Christmas but Chef - please sort out the roast potatoes!

Awful experience on Boxing Day. The roast dinner was vile - meat was either undercooked or overcooked. I think the sole of my shoe would have been less tough than the gammon. When I asked the waitress who was manning the carvery for pigs in blankets, it was if I was asking for the world. No smile, just grumpy interaction throughout. Too many people for the small buffet station. Usually have a good meal here but was very let down, and probably won't visit again.

I booked a table for 12 of us on Boxing Day and was very disappointed with buffet choice on offer and at £40 per person including 4 bottles of wine I expected better. The starters were very bland and boring - the potato salad looked straight from a tin and boiled eggs had a dry crust of sauce on the top. The main course was roast pork which my guests said was ok but the vegetables were cold and unseasoned, the roast potatoes dry and over cooked again they tasted like frozen oven potatoes. I am vegetarian and so not having a vegetarian option apart from the spinach and mushroom side order was not great.Deserts were not replenished and at 8.45 we wanted custard which myself and another diner asked for twice - never actually turned up but different staff kept going to the custard kettle and opening the lid to see it was empty and burning dry as it was on maximum and had no water in the bottom. Another customer asked for more strawberry gateaux and it never came, in the end we just gave up and went without.I do think the menu needs to be updated - I haven't eaten there in quite a while and maybe we went there on an off day but I doubt if I would go back again now.

Visited the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. About 30 people in our party. Met in the bar area, enough space, the hotel has now extended the area so there are more seats. Service was very good. We had two tables booked and there was no being hurried to get to our tables. Once seated the staff asked about drinks, wine was with the meal, but for those who wanted other drinks there was no problem. We had the carvery, soup, salads/sea food. main meals and desserts. The quality and choice of the foods was excellent, laid out in a very pleasing way. On the day we visited there were only a few groups there so no queuing for the food, note on busy days you may have to queue longer. Once our meal was ended not rused to leave the table. Excellent value for money, you get wine with the meal as all part of the cost.

I went with a group of friends for the buffet, and the found the experience to be very mediocre and disappointing, starting with the pre-dinner drinks we had in the adjacent "Whistlers Bar". Far from being "warm and welcoming" as per their website, we found the bar staff in "Whistlers" to be extremely surly and slow. They were not particularly busy that night and there were quite a few bar staff on duty, but they still managed to get our order wrong and keep us waiting 20 minutes for our drinks! After drinks, we made our way into Oscar's Brasserie, and my first impression was that the restaurant and its décor were very tired and dated, and upon entering there was an over-whelming, school dinnerish smell of boiled broccoli. There was a fairly good choice of starters and salads, but all very basic and bog-standard: rice, pasta, couscous etc. To start with I had lobster salad, and the lobster was extremely chewy with a rubber texture and came smothered in a very strange tasting sweet chilli sauce. The Norwegian prawns that the waiter had recommended to us were just small defrosted shrimps and when I ladled some out onto my plate from the wooden serving bowl they were in, some of them came out stuck to a piece of cling film! For their main course my friends had the meat from the carvery and were distinctly underwhelmed by it as they found it dry and the gravy too thin and watery. I had the salmon teriyaki, which was really nice, but I did not like any of the vegetables on the mains buffet as they were all over-cooked, tired and the roast potatoes were burnt on the outside and under-cooked and crunchy on the inside. I think the problem was that all the meat, vegetables and other hot food had been left out on the hot plate too long that they had started to burn and dry up.The desserts were OK, but the hot cherry sauce as another commentator has already mentioned was very thin, and it wasn't very hot at all just luke-warm. On the positives - the maître d' and the waiting staff were very pleasant and attentive to us, so I will rate the service highly. The salmon teriyaki was delicious, and was about the only dish I enjoyed, but overall I did not think that any of the buffet was worth £19/£22 per head. I would not go back and I would not recommend this buffet to anyone as there are much better eateries in Croydon.

We hadn't been to Oscar's for some years and decided to give it a try. Service was excellent. The Assistant Manager was on duty and she served us. She is friendly, helpful, efficient. The fish starters were very good but there was not the range there previously was. As another reviewer has mentioned, no shell on prawns. Still plenty to choose from, though and what we tried we enjoyed. There were a number of choices for the main course : roast pork, fish and two or three other options. The accompanying vegetables were mediocre. There was a tempting range of desserts and a small cheese platter, followed by coffee. In some ways Oscar's feels like going back in time in terms of how it is laid out but it is a nice place for lunch and good value for money. There is free parking underneath if you stay less than two hours but the card you get on entry to the car park must be stamped by the restaurant and by the reception desk on the way out.

Had not visited for a few years and was very disappointed with the changes to the buffet. Greatly reduced fish starter selection. Tiny prawns, small lumps of mackerel & tasteless lobster salad, but the smoked salmon was good. There used to be shell on prawns & whole cooked salmon as well as large pieces of lemon wrapped in muslin instead of the tiny cut up pieces. The "joint" looked like the remains of a small crown of turkey, the alternative mains were mainly Asian & the choice of potatoes and veg was limited. To crown it all, the hot cherry sauce for the ice cream was no longer thick and unctuous, just small cherries in a very watery liquid. The staff were friendly and efficient, but will not be returning.

I went to Oscars last night with colleagues for our Christmas meal. We had prebooked the £30 Christmas buffet which appeared to be reasonable value. The buffet was untidy and badly presented. The starters various fish, meats and salads were fine but then it was downhill all the way. The main course hot dishes were most unappetising and the 'Christmas' part, ie the roast turkey wasn't even a whole bird, just the breast which was cooked OK but very boring and an additional roast would have been nice. The tilapia had run out and was not replaced while I was choosing my meal. The parsnips were nice, the sprouts were khaki and the roast potatoes ran out and we had to wait 15 minutes for them to be restocked. The Christmas pudding looked very sad and unappetising on the heated table and it looked like a sliced loaf. The cold desserts were uninspiring. I don't know if they have a sommelier but the waiters should be trained to pour wine correctly not to within 50 mm of the rim! On top of all that the ladies' toilets could have been cleaner and all the cubicles had run out of toilet tissue. The company of colleagues made the evening - the food did not
