Os' Camacheiros Restaurant in Medway

Went to os'camacheiros for the first time. Must say was lovely would definitely recommend. Our server gabby was lovely so helpful as have never been been before. Great experience

Main meals were excellent, but "desserts" (mainly cakes from adjoining daytime cafe) were disappointing and pricey (£7 for a doughnut, + £3 for a small jug of cream!). Also, cakes not fresh. Service was best described as disjointed. Food arrived promptly, however - we were offered water, it never arrived; we had to prompt the staff twice as one of our party had not received their order; a dessert arrived, it was wrong/for someone else, and that was delayed as others received their food several minutes earlier. Then it took 2 attempts to get the bill. There were plenty of staff, but several different people attended to our table. Seemed to be a lack of consistency. Lots of people crammed into a relatively small space, it was noisy. Some call that atmosphere.

We found a gem! Brilliant food and service. Thank you very much for looking after us today and a special thanks for the birthday surprise, overall a very pleasant experience.

That last time I ate here was during lockdown. I was impressed with the food and service then, at a time when it was difficult to be in the industry. Back today, again with family, and I have to say I love this place, and will be returning soon. The food does not disappoint, it’s simply delicious and I love their pudding selection. Staff are helpful and efficient. It’s priced competitively and the ambiance of the old workshop is awesome. Great to see these buildings being repurposed. I plan to eat with you more regularly. Thank you we’ve had a lovely family afternoon with you.

We visited for the first time for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find a Madeiran restaurant in Medway. The building is beautifully decorated, there was some great live music, and the meat skewers (both lamb and also chicken/chorizo) were delicious. The service was friendly but quite slow - it took 20 mins for someone to take our drinks order. It felt like they were a little understaffed (particularly at the bar). The bill was also on the high end for what we had. We still had a brilliant evening though, and will look forward to returning.

This was a really nice place to go. I made the reservation on google quite easily. Navigating down and locating the restaurant was easy. There was a lot of parking. The staff were super friendly. They attended promptly to us and even helped us in going through the menu and deciding what to eat. Drinks were awesome. The food didn't take too long before coming out of the kitchen. You barely have time between each course, which was perfect. The atmosphere was great. And there was live music. Overall, it was an awesome experience

We have just had a great meal out for valentine’s. The staff never disappoint giving great service and a warm welcome. Gaby and Destiny made us feel welcome and were very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, wine lovely and great entertainment. Thanks for a great evening.

Brilliant food, brilliant atmosphere, fantastic staff

Last night my family dined at Os'Camacheiros to celebrate my wife and daughters birthday. This was not our first visit. We have also recommended it highly to friends and family. Last night however I couldn't have been more disappointed. There were a few things I would have been happy to let go like the one dirty fork on our table and the starters that were not ours ( which we tried before realising and they were then given to their correct table instead of being disposed of) but I am struggling to swallow the terrible service. We were at our table for three hours we had two courses because time in between courses was far too long. We understand food being cooked to order and are happy to wait for great food usually but this was much longer than normal. At no point was our wait addressed or acknowledged, we waited for 40 minutes with a desert menu and tried fruitlessly multiple times to get the attention of the waiting staff. The couple on the table next to us were suffering the same situation. When someone finally arrived we asked for the bill, we waited a further 15-20 minutes until approaching another member of staff as by this point we were sick of waiting around. They then said the bill had been delayed due to them making us birthday cocktails. I'm sure they would have been lovely but when we had asked for the bill instead of dessert I had explained we no longer wanted to order because we had waited long enough and just wanted to leave. We spent just over £180 (we paid £40 deposit which was not deducted from the bill until after almost paying the full amount) and ordered two starters four mains and one drink each, three of these were soft drinks. I am happy to pay for a good meal but with a compulsory 12.5 percent service charge I am really upset with the service, we were not even offered drinks during our time after our initial order. From previous visits this is not what we expected at all, very disappointed.

Brilliant portions service and atmosphere

Came here for our wedding anniversary and we were very well looked after. The food the ambience all was superb.

This was our 2nd visit the food is lovely but the chicken skewers are a bit over cooked two people in our party had them and both said the same but the rest of the food was lovely, staff were excellent,very helpful, it is a bit pricey but very nice if you celebrating a special day, very relaxing atmosphere they do not rush you out the door so you can just sit back and take your time, pina colada are delicious 🍹we will be back

My husband and I came to this restaurant for lunch today. The food was lovely and the staff were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back. An excellent restaurant to bring all the family.

Went there on the 29th dec 24 ,as a group of 8 blokes so we was quite noisy place was really nice and the food was great we all had the squewers which were to die for the bill was £81 each but we had loads to drink,our waitress was a girl called gabriella she was brilliant,and coped with all the stick we gave her with ease would definatly go again even had a singer on aswel ,the xmas tree was nicely done

What an amazing gem of a place and such a charming find!!! Food is delicious and staff and ambience are wonderful!!! Had a range of starters, mains and desserts and everything was equally delicious. Staff were very patient and kind explaining all the different options. Can’t wait to return and to tell all of our friends! Thank you for a lovely experience!

The restaurant was nicely decorated and at first staff members were friendly. Had been really looking forward to eating here and most of the food was delicious but I felt it was quite expensive and there were some disappointing things- requested rare steak skewer was very well done, meat was generally dry and overcooked. Service was also erratic and although when our order was taken, they were at pains to ensure that we knew we had a time limit on the table, they were slow to take our dessert order and even though we had finished in plenty of time, slow to bring the bill so I felt pressured to leave quickly. They also had traditionally dressed musicians and dancers, so loud! Impossible to have a conversation when they were performing and I didn’t enjoy it at all, if I was ever to go again I would check that they would not be performing! (I know that sounds churlish and some people seemed to enjoy it so maybe just me, I am not a fan of Portuguese folk music I guess!)

First visit, a Thursday evening / loved it. If your Gluten free, you will find something on the menu. Ask and talk to the server. Will definitely go again. I will definitely go back - even with an automated service charge applied.

This lovely restaurant booked us in at the last minute, although near on fully booked, they managed to squeeze us in. Food was delicious, staff friendly, attentive and diligent. Will definitely be returning and highly advise others to go.

Lovely Madeiran restaurant, go hungry the skewers are massive. I've tried the fish, the chicken and the sausage, all are fantastic.

Loved this place, great hidden gem if you're not from the area, but 100% worth a visit, great for kids as well. Can't wait to come back

Good food served by pleasant and polite staff.

Friday 12 o'clock walked into camacherios sat in back garden beautifully planted, umbrellas for shade. Ordered large prawns, salad and potatoes. I was transported to Madeira sun, good food excellent service. Complimentary drink. Heaven.

Saturday evening, dinner. Booking essential. By way of a brief disclaimer I am a big fan of Portuguese food and used to live in Portugal, so you might wish to take that into account when reading this review. They have made a real effort with this restaurant and the attention to detail was what tipped it into the five star bracket - which I am normally very reticent to hand out. Everything was authentic, from the Portuguese branded butter to the hangers on the tables for the espadatas (kebabs). Wine, little aperitifs, desserts. They have done everything really really well and their staff are attentive and hard working. The place is clean, spacious, has parking opposite and is well decorated taking me back in time to Portugal and some of my favourite places there. The food is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. Highly recommended and I’ll be back.

We went here for a 25th Anniversary last night,, the service was great especially from Destiny and the lady behind our bar upstairs both couldn't do enough for us.

Wow, wow, wow!! There are not enough words to express how happy we are with the food, atmosphere and service. We celebrated our 25th anniversary here tonight and was over whelmed by everything. Destiny looked after our party of 30 and went above and beyond for us. She was amazing and certainly a credit to your establishment. She helped to make our anniversary just that bit more special. Thank you so much Destiny. Also a big thank to the rest of the staff who were running up and down the stairs especially as it was so hot. We will definitely be back.

I attend here last night for a 25th Wedding Anniversary. Destiny went above and beyond, all evening. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. The food was amazing.

Return trip and very good on every account as usual. We've been here a few times and always lovely and discovered the outside courtyard this time too. Thoroughly recommend it.

We held our daughters engagement meal there today. It's not an understatement to say that it was absolutely fabulous The food, service and ambience was amazing. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. They really made my daughter and her fiance feel special. I would highly recommend the restaurant. The food and service here was amazing. Some of the best I've ever had and pretty generous portions. My only issue was that we went on a Friday night, which was entertainment night. They had a singer and she was good. Only problem was that when she was singing we couldn't actually even talk to the person sitting next to us. This went on for at least 3 hours! I'm all for live Entertainment, but this was a bit much tbh. Think you could either cut down on it a bit a less is more approach or alternatively, get a sound system that isn't quite so dominating? Just a thought...

Fantastic food and the staff are amazing 😍

My three friends and I had lunch here as two of our party had been before and recommended it. We were not disappointed ! Lovely food, a waitress who was bold enough to make suggestions without being pushy and little complimentary drinks before and after our main. I spotted the notice mentioning that service was not FAST as all food was cooked to order - no complaints from me with that outlook ! A lovely lunch in good company. I gave "atmosphere" only 4 stars as I have no idea what to expect. The decor is fascinating and the whole place has the family feel. We will return ! Thanks. Steve

A Portuguese interlude in the UK. If you are in Rochester, Os Camacheiros is worth crossing the bridge for typical Madeiran family cuisine that will give you a change from pubs and Fish&Chips. Almost at the water's edge!

Came here for an early dinner, decor is great, staff were fantastic really chatty . Was early so quiet however it was lucky we booked as the restaurant was fully booked that evening ( Friday ) food was delicious I had sardines and a chicken chorizo skewer followed by a lemon merengue. All homemade and very tasty

This place was absolutely lovely, delicious authentic tasting Portuguese food and wonderful service! We went here on a whim on a walk in Upnor and it really is a hidden gem. The atmosphere was lively but cosy. We got free shots before AND after our meal! The House Special is a really good deal because not only do you get one of the massive skewers, you also get olives and starters, 3 sides and a dessert! We had the lamb and the tofu veg skewers and we were absolutely stuffed after everything at the end. It was all deliciously grilled as well. The flaming chorizo was wonderful and fun. The molotof whipped egg dessert was fluffy and delightful. We chatted to the waiter Antonio after and he was so friendly, mature and polite and told us all about the restaurant. We will definitely be coming here again and bringing our friends, it was amazing value for money and the food was absolutely stunning!

If you want fast food at the lowest possible price, then this isn't the place for you. If you want high quality flavourful food, cooked fresh to order and served by attentive staff in an interesting building, and you understand that it costs actual money to do all that properly, then dive in! This place is a firm family favourite for special occasions.

We've literally just got back from this place and we've been talking about it the whole way home. It's nicely hidden away but really beautifully laid out, really friendly staff, ridiculously quick with getting the food out to us, and the food was amazing. Our little 6 year-old said it was the best chocolate brownie he's ever had! So glad we stumbled upon it and next time we'll be back with an even bigger party.

Extensive authentic menu, prawn picado absolutely delicious, big portions, skewers looked amazing, good selection of wines, super bock beer on tap, truly felt like I was in Madeira even though it was a rainy grey day, authentic decor, excellent staff, great service. Honey tea was the icing on the cake!

Near miss. Nice venue, some good ingredients and staff who seemed to care. It wouldn't have needed much to be different to be a really good meal. Unfortunately the prawn, squid, and veal skewers were overcooked and the vegetables were reminiscent of school dinners. Good coleslaw, chips, mussels and halloumi though. Service was rather chaotic, where they didn't appear to know what was happening. Seemed to be plenty of staff, but 3 different people all trying to deal with us.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, the starters we had were incredibly delicious which had us anticipating great things for the main, however when these arrived they were very unwhelming and lacking flavour.

Had the best evening! The food was really fresh and delicious, much better than we expected. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to come back! All your staff were so friendly and didn’t keep us waiting for anything. Great!

It’s for a sure beautiful place but today was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a restaurant, they had birthday so our food was 2 hours late. We got free complimentary bread and butter to say sorry? Also may I say the food was bland. Being Portuguese myself, big let down.

We went on a sunday lunchtime. Food was ok. Lamb was ok , a couple of pieces a bit chewy. Corn on the cob tasted weird & neither of us ate it . The saute potatoes were very disappointing. Staff were lovely, but i thought it was expensive for what it was

what a fabulous restaurant , a little Gem of a place, four of us went there on a Friday evening, and what a fantastic time we all had, really great food Fatima and her staff were terrific, the food was absolutely exceptional, a really quirky place with a really enjoyable atmosphere, we have put OS, Camacheiros in the number one spot for places to return to 12 out 10 thanks to you all for a really great evening.

'Hidden Gem is a bit of an understatement". We had dinner at this restaurant on recommendation from a friend. From the minute we walked in, someone was at hand to welcome us in. The place is on 2 floors and has a very cosy feel. The menu is simple and packed full of flavours and choice. Our food arrived promptly and was very very tasty, and well presented. The staff and owner make you feel at home. They had a live singer, Lucia who performed to a packed restaurant. Made our birthday celebration feel very special. We can't wait for our next venture out to this wonderful place.

We tried this restaurant for the first time today. The establishment was clean with a quirky decor. Overall the menu was a little vague but luckily the waiter we had was absolutely brilliant and described what each of the dishes contained with recommendations. The lunch menu showed a good selection of options and the portion size for the small skewers was more than enough for bigger lunch. It was lovely to see vegan options available (even though I'm not) and the vegan lemon cake was amazing! Unfortunately we had to go up and ask for assistance a few times, however, I would highly recommend the food here. Very rich and tasty dishes.

Surprised to have to pay a deposit when reserving a table, but it was the best night out we've had in quite a while. Thanks James.

A traditional and warm Portuguese restaurant with lovely lobsters and seafood. The taste is fantastic and fresh. The oldies couple, the owner, is very nice and full of hospitality. Love to visit again.

We came back In January for our anniversary and what a great spot for lunch. Staff was really friendly and attentive. Hubby enjoyed but stated he would come back. Me on the other hand will definitely be back with friends and family.

Went here last night and they were also celebrating their 5th Anniversary ! It was packed out but our server James (canada) was an excellent server, funny and very attentive to our needs . The singer was ok but the atmosphere was great . The firework display was good but the food ( chips, rice , skewers were Amazing , thank you to the whole team for a great night .

James our server was exceptional, couldn't do enough for us, first class service and kept us entertained all evening. We will definitely be back, if only for James's entertainment 👍😁👍

We came here this evening to celebrate a birthday and the atmosphere was brilliant, there was a singer on which really added to the whole experience. The food was great and so delicious and the waiter James was so attentive, wonderful, really funny and did not put any pressure on you, took the time to explain the menu and was everything that you want a waiter to be and even stopped for a chat every now and again.. he even gave us his own special liquor free of charge for the birthday celebrations…James really made the night special and it was a night to remember! We will be back! Thank you

Lovely restaurant with simple but tasty food

It was all very good, delicious food.

Just had the best food imaginable here. Its all so fresh, flavoursome and beautifully cooked and presented. The location and atmosphere was also very special with traditional music and dancing. Friendly staff too. Couldn't wish for more.

Really enjoyed the food and the waiter James was very helpful and made the evening very pleasant, he was very knowledgeable on the different menu items, would definitely go back.

Lovely venue, service, easy parking and food. Would be 5 stars but the house piri piri which to be honest is not even spicy at £3.50 is something that should be free, or atleast have manufactured piri piri such as paladin, maçarico or calvé available.
