Oriental Chef Southgate in Enfield

Ordered a Chinese take away after a long time since our local one closed down. This place was amazing, service was quick and food was very tasty. This will be our new go to take away place!

This is the best and most allergy safe Chinese restaurant ever! The lady at the till is amazing - she is so kind and professional and always accommodates to my egg allergy. She even started to remember us (even though we’ve only been there twice), greets us kindly with a smile and even packs the allergen order separately. The food is delicious and the right amount of spice. Finally the portion is a great size especially for the price! Will continue coming here for lunch :)

Nice food, but egg fried rice £7!? That’s ridiculously overpriced 😕

I don’t understand all these negative reviews. All I can say have been coming here for years and although price gone up, this is an unfortunate problem everywhere you go. Food is always is delicious and never disappoints.

This restaurant is unhygienic, staff are extremely rude and dismissive! The food tastes disgusting so please be aware that if you make a complaint you will not get a good customer service, instead you will get very rude and disrespectful responses, try and see please.

Terrible food! Horrendous customer service! I told them that there was a hair in the food but they started to get defensive and abusive even suggested it was my hair but I’m bald! Absolutely will not be ordering from you again

We have been using oriental chef in Southgate for years but tonight was the last time. My husband ordered sweet and sour chicken balls and the pot of sauce they sent him was minuscule and half empty where they usually send a polystyrene pot. He called them to ask if they could send a larger one and they were very dismissive and refused point blank to send another one. So now he has chicken balls with no sauce. Very disappointing!

Only a “1” for hygiene… they used to be good years ago and had 4/5.. then I remember at one point they even had 0! Seriously, gross to have 1 for hygiene and other people below saying they use dirty water to clean woks etc. given prices and staff I hope they sort themselves out and get proper hygiene improvements. I won’t be going back !

Lovely service and great noodles!

I last came to the place a few years ago. Food used to be good but now not so good. Ordered Singapore noodles to eat in with a coke and was charged £1.70 to eat in! Won’t be visiting again. For the £10 I spent I should have had a tasty burger from Burger King or gone to Honeymoon restaurant.

Once my favourite Chinese takeaway, I would regularly walk in and pick up sweet & sour chicken balls with mushroom rice......tonight no sweet & sour sauce!?! As a regular customer who actually collects in person I feel really let down.Doubtlessly a mistake , I will never visit again.

Best chinese restaurant ever! I always come here with my girlfriend to get the oriental house noodles as i am a regular they always know our orders in a specific way and it makes me happy that they always put love into food & work, well done to all the chefs there for making the delicious food for everyone.

This is our preferred Chinese takeaway and we've been coming here for many years ( did try others but still prefer this one). We always order via phone & the service has always been fantastic, food arrived within reasonable time and delivery drivers have all been great. Overall, food has been reasonably good, there has been one incident previously when a Singapore vermicelli dish did not come up to scratch ( my usual favourite in any Chinese restaurant), but it was a one off and in my next order, it was back to my expectations. My kids usually has MacDonalds whilst us adults order a Chinese, now they like the Chinese too.... which is making our takeout that more expensive :) but still i would recommend this place and it will continue to be our favourite local Chinese takeaway .

Good food , reasonably priced, friendly staff, definitely will go again

I put my geiger counter next to the egg rolls and it read 1,000 roentgen. I am currently in the hospital suffering from acute radiation poisoning.

Poor quality chines dont order i was told 45 min too 1 hr 15 to arrive i had 9 people as guests and when food arrived it was cold all spilled out the tins there was noodle and sauce all in the carrier bag. I called and their solution was just return the food and get ur refund no apology no sorry will get u new food back soon. Avoid

I’m gonna be honest. This was unfortunately hands down the most dissatisfying Chinese take-away I’ve ever had & it’s annoying that it’s my local (it’s my first time having it) as it means I’ll have to order from a Chinese food place further away or forego Chinese food when looking to order in. I got chicken with cashew nuts & egg fried rice & I have to say I’m amazed that this establishment had some how managed to make FRIED rice taste bland & not worth going for again. I will say I am grateful though as I feel that I learned that it’s probably the Chinese food establishments that are exclusively take-out venues that have lower quality food unlike Chinese restaurants where you sit down and eat because I’ve had some wonderful Chinese food in restaurants in London. I could not in good conscience skip leaving an honest review knowing I paid around £12/£13 for a meal that even the most Caucasian, Icelandic, cave dwelling, salt & pepper avoiding human being would confess lacked any flavour/seasoning. It was truly that bland. I didn’t leave a 1 star review because I didn’t want anyone thinking I’m review bombing out of spite. It was just an underwhelming experience. I will say that the lady who took my order was very kind though so thumbs up for her attitude. Hopefully a venue with better tasting food hires her so the food can then mimic her energy! Hope this review helped anyone considering what their food options are!

They use that disgusting dirty water inside the work station to wash the woks which I’ve only noticed last night, my sister complained about the rude service she received from the counter staff but they unbelievably blamed me, I will not be going here anymore, I’ll try Honey moon Chinese, they seem like they have higher standards

Terrible. We spoke with someone on the phone in regards to prices and placing an order for collection as we was rushing. Our meals were supposed to be £6.50 each and she charged us £28 for only 3 £6.50 meals. When we had realised how much we was supposed to pay and realised we was charged extra as we paid together we called about coming to collect the remaining amount of money which she kept ending the call on me, refusing and basically told me that’s my problem and I won’t be getting the remaining amount of my money. They will attempt to charge your extra without letting you know if they feel they can get away with it. My food quality was bad. It was between hot and cold. Tasted rushed and tasty. I have never gone back since.

I found hair in my food, when I told them and showed them, they had the audacity to say it was my hair wow wow wow! I have reported them to environmental health! Also I’ve been reading the responses to other peoples reviews and they’re disgusting and it’s obvious they cannot accept criticism and truth! Nasty bunch of people and a disgusting unhygienic Chinese take away! I’ll wait for your pathetic response

Tasteless and little sauce with the sweet and sour chicken. They did not even want to give me napkins with my take away. One of the ladies were rude and it was the worse food. I noticed two tables were dirty and the floor too.

Most disgraceful restaurant in Southgate. Their hygiene is zero over 100, both the staff and the manager were very rude, they sold uncooked hard rice and this is not the first time this was happening, so I returned the rice and ask for another one or refund, but I was called all sorts of name. While I was explaining myself to the manager he asked me to shut up, I was humiliated, I told them I want my money back due to the fact that I have my receipt but instead they caled the police to chase me out of the shop. The police then have to explain to them that is my right for them to refund my money or give me another rice.

1st time customer and the last. Ordered. Spare ribs in Salt and Pepper No taste,where was the salt n pepper! very dry so dry infact looked like straw! Inedible Kong po chicken ( never in my life had it like that, I asked for it to be spicy . Instead got jellied chicken and half a tub of of chilli flakes!!) and egg fried rice Singapore style noodle was nice. Rang them up straightaway explained. Instead the girl on phone says it is how they cook Kong po chicken and went silent. Just had the Singapore noodles and prawn crackers,the rest in the bin.I should of known when I asked is the prawn crackers free for 1st time customer, hesitation or what. AVOID!!

I ordered king prawn chow mien , chicken chow mien, no flavour at all very disappointed also ordered salt and pepper ribs and salt and pepper wings again very disappointed, special fried rice with curry sauce was just as bad, new chef needed,everything was tasteless waste of money, very bad customer service after phoning an hour after receiving my order, the answer I got from the lady was ok ok ok. You should get your facts right, firstly i phoned to express my disappointment with the food, where you got the information of us eating all the food is complete rubbish, I phone not even 30 minutes after my delivery arrived ,Im not asking for refunds or replacements,I would have refused anyway, please don’t mislead people your food was terrible and your staff was no better, I can assure you that we will not be placing any more orders with your company.

I eat here once a week. The food is freshly made in front of me and I request fresh chillis in my Singapore noodles which they always include as a special request. The noodles are tasty and the chicken and sweet corn soup is delicious.

Worst Chinese food I have had in years. My lamb dish was inedible - nothing but gristle. I handed it back to them and asked for something else. No response, no offer of a refund. Suggest you avoid this place.

This used to be my go to restaurant for a reasonable Chinese take out : Not anymore ! I ordered one night with my mum because it was late and we didn't have food at home. The food arrived suspiciously quickly , like 10 minutes from phone to table ! And when we opened it it wasn't anywhere near usual high standard we became accustomed to. In fact it was almost cold and dishes tasted like they'd been re - heated - although I've been assured by the management not the case. The chicken in the black bean was stringy and the sauce as runny as water , the prawns in the king prawn ginger were rubbery and the noodles were very oily. The egg fried rice was okay. The only enjoyable thing was the chicken sweet corn soup which actually arrived hot and delicious. The rest of the meal as described was very poor and almost cold . I did complain and was met with defensiveness and a paltry 10 % off next order , which considering my mum left all her food and we were long standing customers I found derisory . So, please be careful if you consider ordering from this establishment , I certainly won't be ever again. As a postscript , I have to say I find it appalling and risible that the owner feels the need to respond so unobligingly to any customer who has a bad experience, who without which he would have no business. I have just recieved a highly facetious response from the owner . Cheers very much for your rudeness and sarcasm ! EVERYONE reading this DON'T bother with this lousy eatery because they can't take a piece of construction criticism and jump on the defense as soon as anything negative is said , and are sarcastic too. Nice people! Moreover Mr Thai Pan (sic) , don't try to portray yourself as benevolent donating my bill to charity when you should have provided a refund or at least a satisfactory amount of my money back like 50 % , 10 % is trifling . But instead you call your unhappy customers freeloaders. Listen mate ....with that attitude it is a wonder you have a restaurant to own at all ! You're clearly in the wrong game ... Very good food for a takeaway, as good as most restaurants, but expensive considering they don't have service (the same price as most Chinese restaurants).

Fast service and staff very helpful and polite. Food arrived promptly and was piping hot. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended.

My family’s go to Chinese place as it is only 5 minutes away. The lunch special is so cheap and amazing. We go so many times that the staff recognises me and my family when we call and pick up the food. Always yummy, even my brother likes it and he is a really picky eater. Definitely recommend the chicken in black bean sauce and prawn toast. They also give us free fortune cookies.

Health hazard! Please close down the takeaway. Delivered food - can’t eat as meat has gone off. Smells and restaurant refuses to refund. I will be informing food standard government body to inspect and close down the place. Awful and rude service!

The service is quick, the food is good and the place looks fairly hygienic, I’m not a professional health inspector so take it with a grain of salt. Prices are reasonable for the location eg. 6 mini veg spring rolls are about £2. They couldn’t accept cards before but now they can, you just have to spend £10 or more. Not much else to say about it, it’s a simple fast food joint that doesn’t disappoint.

Just moved into the area, fancied a take away. Massive mistake going here. The salt chilli chicken was soggy with the weight of the 2 whole onions slapped in the box. The salt chips tasted of sweaty onions - because yeah they slapped an onion in it. Satay chicken was chicken in curry sauce. Whole experience was horrific how are they still in bussiness!

Excellent takeaway. Very good food but all the more remarkable for great competence, very easy to order from with very helpful phone staff and thorough checking of orders before delivery.

I ordered a mix vegetables soup and king prawns chow mein and both were quite a bit salty. The taste was ok and the prices ok too.

Great price for lunch special, a box contains both main dish and fried rice or noodle. The service is always fast, although no lunch time delivery. It has seating so you can eat in if you so chose to. The price have gone up recently but it is still a very reasonable price.

Visited 4 times now. Never been disappointed. Nice tasty food. Reasonable prices, especially the lunchtime menu for £4.99. Staff always polite, helpful and well turned out. A 4 score on 'Scores on Doors' too!

The bad reviews are totally unfair. I’ve been going here regularly (about once a week) for about 4 years. Though there can sometimes be minor inconsistencies, the food is generally quick, tasty and a better price than some other local competitors. My favourite of the 7 Chinese takeaways I’ve tried in the local area.

Rice not the best but the rest amazing

Found a little piece of a stone in my no pork Singapore fried rice. Contacted the manager told they will give a refund but as a resturant they should take more responsibility when preparing food.

My favourite take away in North London... Shame I no longer live there but Oriental Chef always delivers great food! :-D

Poor hygiene (according to Enfield food safety site "Rating Zero: Urgent Improvement Necessary")- I only found this out after I bought rubbish food and received very very slow and careless service AVOID! If only I could award Zero stars!!!

The most awful service I've never received. They got my order wrong twice, this first time they gave me beef when i asked for Bean Curd, (i'm a vegetarian)! when i called to tell them the mistake, i was told i asked for beef, why would i ask for beef when i am a vegetarian. then i had to waste my lunch hour going there again to change it. went back to my office and when i opened my food they gave me egg fried rice instead of the noodles i asked for. I then called to let them know they made a mistake again only for the woman to rudely put me on hold while she served 3 other customers, she then left me hanging on the phone for a further 5 minutes before she remembered i was on the phone.When i told her, her mistake told me had i had told her i wanted rice, when i told her that i never said that she said 'look we are very busy' at this point i hung up the phone and returned to the shop a third time. I asked for my money back and she did not even apologise for her mistake. I will never go there again.
