One Man & His Dog in Walsall

Was absolutely amazed on the service I received..twice of been here and was dying to try the gammon on both occasions it wasn't available 😪but today the owner went out of his way and went to a local butcher and sorced me a gammon which I was extremely grateful too .

Staff friendly, food and atmosphere not as great. We came after following the facebook page for a while and reviews on there and pictures looked great so decided to try it. Thought the restaurant and bar would be separate but it was all one, so we were sitting in the bar so was quite noisy. Food was OK. We ordered garlic ribeye platter, 16oz ribeye and 8oz sirloin. All steaks were overcooked, bland and charred, and also came on tiny plates so lost half of the chips just trying to cut into the steak. Didn’t really resemble the photos online. Couldn’t complain about bar/drinks since it’s the pub’s specialty.

Hello i had my moms wake this week the buffet was very good and i did complement the staff on the standard of the food however when i booked and paid for in cash. i was told that tea and coffee's was included in the cost there was a lot of elderly family members who dont drink and actually went without drinks when i asked where the coffee and teas was i was told the machine was not working i find this a very poor excuse and feel i have let my moms family and friends down. I await for your reply many thanks colin.

Our daughter visited this pub last week and said they had a great meal so we thought we would give it a try it was the best fillet steak we have had for years staff were very nice Sian very helpful they don’t do cocktails that’s a shame but decent bar but the star is the kitchen amazing food

Hadn't been here since my dad passed away, so it was interesting to see how it's changed . We have had many family gatherings and reunions at this pub in the past , some people have said it's full of young men finishing work , but I can't see what's wrong with that, they keep themselves to themselves , don't cause trouble ,.and we had a great time enjoying some decent beer .

Not bad at all its was the first time I had been in this place but its somewhere I would go again.

A great Sunday lunch, nothing fancy just good wholesome food, been here a few times now and it doesn't disappoint, will definitely be returning.

I went out with the other half and our friend, we had a bite to eat, the starters, mains and deserts were all bang-on. Service was great and atmosphere was lovely. Thankyou

Beautiful Sunday dinner, very friendly staff and a nice clean welcoming environment

Stopped off here before the England game just so the little one could blow off some steam on the playground. Didn't have food so cannot comment on that but bar service was quick which was very welcome after waiting a few times in previous week, little one enjoyed the play area as usual but its looking a little tired now and with gaps in the railings means kids can crawl through towards the rear of the pub and it does not look incredibly safe. One other thing that really put me off and I guess is not any fault of the pub is that a group of girls with children were openly smoking weed/joints and the pungent smell was wafting around the play area which is not at all ideal for children playing there. Maybe the bar staff/management could be on top of this as it certainly left me feeling of a bad experience and one I feel like will be repeated and nothing will be done for future visits.

Can't comment on the food there were about 12-15 people in there and I was told it was too busy to serve us (4). Recently been taken over but nothing has really changed, it's needing TLC all over. There is a play area out the back although looking a bit tired and there are 3 foot high stinging nettles around it. More of a pint with the lads rather than meal with the family.

Popped in to treat my dad to a pre father's day bite to eat and a pint. Food was really nice and service was friendly. Prices are around what you expect to pay these days! This was first visit as I'm not local, but would pop in again if I'm in the area.

First time here. We came here last minute on a Sunday. Booking is recommended as it was quite busy. They serve roast dinners only on a Sunday. A child friendly range would make it better. (For the fussy children), however, they managed to find some chicken nuggets for my little one, so he had nuggets and potatoes, but this isn't on the menu for Sundays The food was great!! I thought it was a bit pricey at first £12 for medium. But it was actually worth it. Friendly staff, there was one in particular from start to finish she was amazing, she managed to fit us in, if I had cash I would had tipped her. Next time. She found us the chicken nuggets, and she had overall great customer service (I don't know her name. She was serving the food to the table). The owners greeted us goodbye as we left to. Nice outdoor area, playground too. Lots of parking. Family friendly ❤️

Was our second visit with someone special. We got a table near an open door. It was freezing cold. We booked for food. Had a drink and left. But to be clear. First visit a week earlier. Food was excellent

Food was top draw. But only criticism for me is the outside space really needs sorting out. Ie grass needs cutting rotten tables need re placing. It's OK selling really good quality food but, the place the selling the food needs to reflect it

Went for steak Thursday and ordered the 12oz rump ..Didn't expect to see a big knob of garlic butter on the middle of my steak which totally ruined the taste other than that everything else was ok

No cask ales on, not even pedigree, a basic I'd think

Busy Saturday evening, the bar runs virtually the width of the pub, which means there are customers queuing the whole length of the bar and the bar staff are working really hard to see who should be served next which is an impossible task. Waited about 20 mins and left without buying a drink. Shame because the atmosphere was generally good.

Still sitting here, savouring the taste of a most delicious steak, and the mushrooms as starters, service at bar fab, waitress Jaymee so lovely and friendly, in the words of Arnie, *We'll be back".

What a shambles. We pre booked a table for ‘steak Thursday’ a few days in advance and was really looking forward to the meal based on the fantastic photos on facebook. We arrived at 6:30pm, table wasn’t ready and a random one was cleaned and we were sat down. Booked meal purely based on wanting the amazing ‘Facebook special’ steak night meal, was told upon ordering that it was not available due to them being ‘busy’ - pub was about 1/4 full. Disappointed I ordered a normal steak off the menu, staff had to ask what came with it different to the menu than the Facebook posts. Wanted to order sides and was told they had none left in stock, 1.5 hours Into food service. Waited 40 minutes for food to arrive. Food was very good, better than expected after a bad start to the meal. Shame really, food could be amazing if there was more consistency and continuity. Waited 20 minutes for plates to be taken away and asked staff if there is any desserts as no dessert menus on table, was given options and asked for a chocolate fudge cake and staff said no problem. 25 minutes later staff returned to table and said if we wanted dessert we had to order at the bar even tho we wasn’t told! Absolutely joke and really ruined an already not great visit. Atmosphere in the pub was shocking - children running around the pub and behind the bar obviously children of the bar staff and waitresses. Gave wacky wharehouse vibes, all in all potential to provide excellent good value food but major room for improvement on all fronts.

Sunday lunch. We saw a Facebook advertisement & thought it looked really good. I do not normally give reviews but I believe this place deserves one. The food was unbelievable! Highly recommended!! Great value for money. So good we’ve booked again for next week! The new owners have really made this place into a great little local pub.

Popped in a couple weeks back for a T bone steak with a few mates they had the mixed grills. Meat was top quality and was cooked to perfection. Great meal and nice beer to along side it!! Will definitely be back soon!! Nice to have a local pub serving proper steaks and homemade food.

First visit for food with my family tonight and I’m telling you it was brilliant, the vegetarian options were very nice indeed definitely eating here regularly.

Went here for a meal and food was top notch. Beautiful steak cooked just right and so tasty. Triple cooked chips was amazing. We also ordered kids meals and a all day breakfast a mixed grill and another steak. All meals was superb and staff was very welcoming and polite. Definitely be eating here again.

Me and my Mrs came here the other week for an early ‘valentines meal’ as work/kids and life gets in the way. We were blown away by the standard of food we ate, I had the biggest steak on the menu and she had the chicken kebab and both were miles above anything else we’ve tasted at other places. The service was quick and efficient and I don’t think we ate again for the rest of the day and we had our meal about 1pm! Will 1million% be going back the next chance we get.

Nice pub good atmosphere and friendly staff too

Got there staff were busy and no one on bar as girl was collecting glasses. Then the barrel ran out and fair play to the young lady she sorted out fresh pint which was good. Did not eat so cannot comment . Only a group eating so atmosphere was dead .but think on a night maybe good

Ordered the 20 oz t bone steak and can hands down say one of the best cuts, cooked and served steak I've had in years, knocked miller and Carter out the waters, staff all so down to earth and friendly, lovely relaxed atmosphere not even to mention value for money. We will be back next week for the exact same!😍

Made us feel really welcome and special from the moment we got there till the minute we left. Table set out perfectly, service was exceptional and the food was delicious!!!

We visited yesterday for food and drinks and have to say the new steak menu they have launched is amazing. The food was lovely and the service was 5*. All waitresses were very pleasant and accommodating. Love what the new owners Nik & Amy have done with the place. Our new family local for food & drinks.

Kitchen closed due to technical problems but no noticed on door or nothing waited until we sat down and ready to order to be told no food today

Went here today 1st time for a gender reveal ordered 4 beef kids sunday meals and it is the first time my 4 kids have been out and finished all there meals... food was great service was good.. a friendly family enviroment and they even had guiness on tap.... will defo be coming again thanks

Multiple times this week gone to go out for food at this place just to be told the kitchen is closed. There is nothing to say there is no food service. This is also the second time of my child finding empty bags with white powder residue on them in the toilets… no apology or any shock from the staff that cocaine was found at their establishment. Overall ok experience with good play facilities for children. *EDIT* In response to your reply, as stated above multiple times this week including Monday/Tuesday when there was also no food available. I can understand that there was a wake today but please update your Facebook or other social media’s or put signs in your doors to make it clear to other guests. With the drug paraphernalia I understand you can only do so much but regular inspections this could be easily controlled to stop children and other guests seeing this.

Only the third time in here today, wanted to pop in as weather was Red hot and wanted a nice cold beer... as previous visits the beer did not disappoint. Also tried the food as well as it was a little birthday treat... all I can say is wow.... good traditional pub food, cooked to perfection and so fresh compared to a lot of other pubs that do food.... had to wait probably 5 - 10 mins longer than other places but that's where the difference was.. the quality and taste was fantastic and great value for money... great atmosphere and really polite good staff, makes all the difference with a well run pub by a good landlord and landlady. Will defffinately be back here again soon for food and drink!! Highly recommended and would give more Stars if you could give them. Get yourself in here!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Friendly staff Needs a bit of tarting up

I use to live round these neck of the woods was My home at one point when I was a kid but since I've come back my friend has took on this beautiful place and is doing a fantastic job so well done to you will definitely be back it was okay when I lived there

Recently undergone a change in management and you can already see the change that's occurring. There seems to be a buzz about the place again. Decent food for the money, only really eaten a club sandwich here since the new management came but I have to say, it was really good!

Had a burger meal. Was cooked beautifully. Service was good with staff being polite and welcoming from the start.

Ordered the ultimate southern fried chicken burger. Really good quality and throughly enjoyable. Service was also excellent.

Popped in for a lunch owner was so welcoming food was excellent.

Been here for food for the 1st time tonight to meet a freind, there was a children's party going on! You could see the staff were super busy, but they couldn't do enough for you! The food was fantastic, so tasty! Definitely recommend 10/10 😋😋 Thankyou for a lovely atmosphere and great food and drinks!

Nik and Amy went above and beyond to cater for our football presentation, and has now become our home after every game! Food is to die for, such a friendly family pub with staff that do everything to make your experience the best it can be! Will definitely be returning regularly.

Really enjoyable visit. The decor, ambiance and music was lovely - modern but in keeping with an older pub. The service was fast and faultless. The food was delicious, well presented and good value. Will definitely be back!

Great pub, very friendly 👌 But compared to our last visit, it's not as great. Some of our Food was overcooked, and it's not the cleanest of places ( cleaned my cutlery with napkins provided) Windowsil full of dead insects and dust. The carpet by our table really needs a hoover, badly. The table itself is a little sticky. Also I didn't realise vaping indoors was a thing? But apparently so. Not sure we will be back again, as we returned due to the great food we had last time.

Desperate for a refurbishment and slow service

Visited today 30/04/2023. I'm a little snobbish when it comes to steak, as not all pubs get it right, but.. WOW - rare steak cooked to perfection. Couldn't finish all the chips as the steak was so filling. Would give more stars if possible. Always a nice atmosphere in here whether busy or not.

Very friendly atmosphere and barkeeper. Good food and drinks. There was even a quiz for all guests. It was a nice evening. The only minus is for ugly toilets.

Popped in today for a beer with a friend, glad I was not eating place smelt bad even the locals commented, won't be going back.

Awful bar staff, approached the guy behind the bar and he walked off without even an acknowledgement...another colleague trotted up to serve us. This bar member was then on his phone in the public area sitting at a table eating his crisps whilst the other young lad gave him the finger as he walked past!! Ridiculous. We'll never go back! Utter waste of a good pub.

Always enjoy visits . Always a pleasure, however this visit the doors were open so went by early as it was very cold. BB will not stop me coming again.

Hidden gem of a marstons pub . Food is exceptional. We have eaten there 4 times in the last few months and the food has been to high standard every time. Service is given with a genuine smile and meaning. The staff are trying to build up the reputation to match the hard work they are putting into the pub. It's a marstons eatery come bar also . No frills but clean tidy and comfortable. It's has tellys and pool table but that does not effect the relaxing dining experience. We haven't eaten outside as of yet as the weather hasn't been its best from first sight they have an amazing outside covered area with outside bar which I imagine would be lovely in the summer. Iam very happy to recommend the one man and his dog to anyone .

Not a good place if anyone in your group is disabled. The disabled parking was blocked by a van belonging to the DJ working in the pub. I was asked for proof of disability before we were allowed to use the disabled toilet

Nice clean pub. Friendly staff. Nice to be able to sit outside under the canopy area and enjoy a pint with the dog as the rain tipped down.

Very friendly and had great entertainment, definitely will be back.
