Great service from when we arrived to when we left. Cheese board was excellent as we're the espresso martinis we had in te lounge post dinner. Where I feel things could have been a little better were in the starter ond main course. Wood pigeon was chewy, but also hidden on the plate when surely it should be the main event. Monkfish was lovely but served with far too much foam, and not much else. Pics for reference. Generally good meal, but I would probably order different options on a return visit.

Having driven all the way from the Orkneys, the bed at the hotel looked very inviting, but thankfully we did not succumb and first decanted ourselves to the wonderfully secluded looking bar, before being guided into the restaurant. This too was dark and secluded, perfect for a couple to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. There was some debate as to what to choose, but on seeing the tasting menu, we no longer had to make a decision. And glad we did as there followed plate after plate showcasing just how diverse and wonderful is the fare available to Scotland, from seafood to game. All hosted perfectly by the staff, topping off a great meal.

I felt compelled to write this review after the outstanding meal we had last night. The team at 1 Devs, both front of house and in the kitchen, must be working absolutely tirelessly to achieve such phenomenal customer experience for their guests under the most challenging of times. We opted for the tasting menu and each dish was an absolute delight. Perfectly presented, delicious, unique and delicate flavour combinations. To manage this level of detail and perfection in a hotel restaurant that was exceptionally busy, also had a wedding and is operating with less staff, under difficult circumstances, not to mention it being the last night before going into a second lockdown, is highly impressive. Even the non-alcoholic cocktails were special, and the front of house service as friendly and efficient as ever. The Head chef is clearly exceptionally talented and I struggle to understand why 1 Devonshire only has 2 AA rosettes? The dishes we had last night far surpass that standard... by a mile! The langoustine and sweetbread course was the stand out dish of the year for us and we’ve been to Core and several other Michelin star restaurants during 2020. I can’t wait to return when the hotel is back to full capacity because if this is what the team can achieve on reduced staff, no alcohol and extreme operating restrictions, then the only way is up. If you haven’t been, make the effort, it’s a wonderful hotel with wonderful employees and exceptional food.

We have always wanted to stay here and where really looking forward to the weekend. The bedroom was lovely and we liked the atmosphere in the bar area but, so disappointed with the food. I'd selected butter chicken it was almost black when it arrived and incredably dry never thought I'd be in such a lovely hotel eating what can only be described as an expensive McDonalds and just as bland. The staff where lovely and offered a complimentry sweet but, didn't really account for my disappointment. Cant comment on breakfast as only had continental but looked okay. There is no free parking at the hotel so be prepared to meet that cost; this is same in most city hotels so not really an issue; not sure what happens if you have a disability we couldn't see any spaces so parked at bottom of street. If you need to be close to entrance may be worth checking with hotel.

An expensive mistake. We ate as a family of 6 in the private dining on Christmas Day. We were told that the room itself would be decorated. There was one solitary white Christmas tree shaped ornament in the middle of the table. Far from a roaring fire, there was a small flickering flame in a room that stunk of cabbage. The food is the part that is most disappointing. How many opportunities do you need to serve a warm plate of food. Both soups for the starters were returned due to being cold. The mains arrived and again turkey and trimmings luke warm at best. The quality of the meet was hugely disappointing, clearly out a tin, the carrots and sprouts were inadequately cooked and solid, so much that I couldn’t put my fork into the sprout. Dessert - chocolate slice. Acceptable but not homemade produce. On to coffee - filter coffee served cold. Requested espresso and waiter returns with a cup of nespresso. Then told shortly after that they needed the table back and we had to leave the hotel. This was 20 minutes before the time agreed and at which point we couldn’t wait to leave. Very disappointed with lack of attention and poor quality on offer here, will not return but will at least learn from this mistake.

No volveremos!

During his time at One Devonshire Gardens the late Andrew Fairlie earned the establishment a Michelin star. Sadly our visit last week fell short of 'stardom' in a couple of very disappointingly basic respects. The food was generally very good although my crab starter, whilst very fresh, lacked seasoning and the appearance of the dish was just, well, beige and uninspired. The scallops were very much enjoyed by the others pand rated amongst the best tasted and they did look beautifully plump and fresh. The beef was pronounced superb by my companions all of whom felt the marrow crust was an inspired addition. My John Dory was a curate's egg of a dish: the fish itself was beautiful however the leek upon which it had been placed remained impervious to disection and my understanding of Ver Jus (sic) does not involve a puddle of thick, almost black, sludge.

We had the pleasure of staying at One Devonshire for one night last night! it was absolutely superb and far more than I had imagined. We were welcomed at the front door of the hotel, taken through to reception, then taken to our room! The room was perfection had absolutely everything you needed the ensuite was simply stunning, coffee machine in the room and plenty space, the bed was huge! bottle of champagne on arrived was sitting on ice and just made to feel very special indeed. Dinner was out of this world and the chef Gary Townsend should be extremely proud of his food, it was simply faultless. The staff could not have been more helpful and the whole evening was perfection including the red wine which was served to us and constantly topped up as was the water. Outside in the garden they have the most quaint bothy which had a fire lit! we had the rest of our wine out there and it just finished the evening off. The Hotel itself is full of character and you really feel you are somewhere very very luxurious and special. Most likely one of our best over night hotel experiences, we usually go for a hotel with a spa but my husband has always wanted to go here hence we made the visit. It is not cheap but believe me it is well worth the money as it truly is an experience. Cant forget the amazing breakfast in the morning which truly was the best breakfast we have ever had. We managed to get a good deal for this five star hotel on great western road Glasgow... I’ll start with staff ... 5 star treatment was afforded to us ... The management should be so proud of there staff and hopefully appreciate the hard work they do.., .. Now the actual hotel is beautiful.. great feel to the place as soon as you walk through the front door...... So everything great so far.. However our room was at first view lovely but on further inspection it went from five star to , a lot less ... the toilet seat wasn’t secured to the floor on one side ... this led me to nearly have a rather embarrassing moment.. The tap in the toilet constantly dripped..it took serious tightening to stop it... simple tap washers is all that’s needed... There isn’t a dressing table for my wife to do her make up and hair... poppers room???? .. So in summary these small things pretty upsetting... So thumbs up to the staff first class room thumbs down....

Spacious, well equipped, beautiful bathroom with the most powerful shower ever! Could not fault it. Breakfast was nearly perfect. The staff were attentive, the buffet was high-end with quality products from the yoghurts to the cereals. We opted for a traditional cooked breakfast - it was luke warm at best and had obviously been pre-prepared and been sitting in a heater. The bacon was particularly poor quality. This restaurant is fairly local to where we live, despite this we rarely use it, almost entirely because of the staff. There is a line in The Mikado where Poo-Bah is referred to as ‘being born sneering ‘I get the same feeling every time I visit One Devonshire. It’s almost as though being a local somehow offends the staff. We visited recently and were one of a number of ‘local’ couples eating. Unfortunately there were also a number of American visitors, this meant that we seemed to be enveloped in an invisibility cloak. The food is usually good, though expensive, however the ‘experience ‘ is entirely hit and miss. Incidentally, nothing against Americans, lovely people, it’s not their fault that they overtip.

Had a champagne lunch here to try it. Was nice enough but not quite what I expected. Staff were lovely and attentive (not too). Lovely old building with lots of character. Seated at the window which was nice although had we been of more generous proportions we would never have got into our seats. Food then was very nice if slightly pretentious. Mains require sides which are extra. We had slow cooked braised brisket, but this was very pale. Never had beef quite so pale (obviously cooked in a Bain Maree but not sealed 1st) the meat disintegrated when touched and tasted quite bland. Overall it was a nice enough experience, but others do it better (Martin Wishart, Brian Maul etc.) I wasn't really going to do a review because it wasn't one way or the other until my wife was quite ill last night. We only ate at No 1 & I also felt a bit off, so I was a bit concerned.

We stayed here for an overnight stay, on their Friday deal. Overall the staff were great, the Sommelier in particular helped make the meal. However the hotel's decor is a bit dated now - i know they're going for Victorian style, but it left the room quite dark and depressing, with slightly short of scary pictures on the walls, wallpaper was hanging off, the queen sized bed wasn't, it was two singles shoved together, and there was visible dirt and dust in the corners. None of this was a level you'd complain about on a deal, but disappointing from a five star hotel. Dinner was OK, not amazing, with small portions, and limited choice on the set menu. Breakfast was lovely, although haggis and black pudding a little dry.

My husband and I were married here in April this year. We had a small wedding of 26 and all of our guests stayed with us in Townhouse 5 for the evening. My bridesmaids and I stayed in the Vettriano suite the night before the wedding. This suite is simply stunning. From the moment we arrived staff couldn't be more helpful. A young man whose name has escaped me, maybe Mark, came out to our cars and helped bring in everything from dresses to decorations and brought everything to our room. He took our dresses away and steamed them the night before the wedding and went above and beyond to look after us and reassure us that everything would be taken care of from breakfast the next morning to moving luggage to different rooms. He even cleared up a glass that was accidentally broken in the room. Nothing was a problem for him. On the lead up to the wedding John and Sharlene were our point of contact. Again we can't thank them enough for their patience and speedy replies. We had to make a change to the rooms due to a family member becoming unwell and we were offered a refund on the expenses involved. We chose to offer our guests more prosecco instead and this was not a problem. On the day of the wedding we were looked after by Karen and Luke, both of whom were very friendly, warm and a reassuring presence for us. They allowed the day to flow at our own pace and by the evening, when our guests were merry they remained patient and attentive. They went above and beyond to accommodate everyones requests and needs. I never had to worry about decor or arrangements as all of our decorations and flowers were placed and moved from each room throughout the day and beautifully placed. In the morning all of our decorations, flowers and little bit, fascinators, a waistcoat and a hat were left in one room for our guests to collect when leaving the hotel. Our flowers were donated to a near by care home on the recommendation of a staff member. Breakfast service was wonderful and we were all met with a beautiful, smiley face as we sat down, bleary eyed and tired. I wish I could remember the girl as she had a lovely manner. I have dreamed of having this as our wedding venue for a very long time and the day was perfect. We were made to feel so special and welcome. The attention to detail was second to none. We can't thank all of the staff enough and really look forward to returning.

My husband and I received a voucher for the restaurant and we decided to visit on our 30th wedding anniversary as a treat. The staff looked after us so well and were attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent, very tasty and beautifully presented. We both had tomato soup, sea bream with vegetables and mango dessert. it was a lovely lunch and we hope to visit again soon.

The tasting menu accompanied by the wines matching was exquisite. Attention to detail very good and a balanced selection of different dishes. You can tell the effort that has gone into each dish the spectrum of flavours and textures. The Wine cellar is vast and as you would expect extensive along with prices. The sommelier very knowledgeable, and the Maitre D very helpful and polite. Will definitely be back and have already purchased a voucher for family to try

My wife and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary so we were looking for something special and the One Devonshire Gardens Hotel certainly provided that. The staff at reception were exceptional being very attentive and friendly. The room we were allocated was on the ground floor and was delightful and large. We had a early dinner as we were going to the theatre and the meal didn't disappoint. I had a ribeye steak and my wife has sole and both were delicious as were the accompanying fresh vegetables. The staff were great too in the Bistro. When we returned from the theatre we spent an hour or so in the bar which was very pleasant and relaxing and again our waiter was very attentive and a full of character. We loved our night there and for special occasions would really love to go back and therefore have no hesitations in recommending this wonderful hotel. A big thank you to all the staff for making our 45th anniversary so special.

Stayed for 2 nights. Douglas in the bar was fantastic and knowledgeable about his whisky. An asset to the hotel. The room was in need of repair and a good clean. Disappointed in breakfast not the best of choice. I will not return.

My wife and myself were treated to an overnight stay and dinner for my 50th Birthday by my Brother and his wife. Well it is something that I will always remember as it not something we can do every weekend. The service, food and staff were impeccable as you would expect. If you are cheese lover like myself you must try the cheese board to finish your meal just listening to the well informed young man serving the cheese was an experience. The breakfast was excellent and we really enjoyed the experience. Only slight complaint was that the draught lager was not chilled and we had to drink the bottles.

I visited for lunch on 1st April. They kindly honoured my voucher which expired on 31st March. I was very excited about visiting. I had heard such good reports. However. I was a tad disappointed. The menu choice was very restricted. I chose spaghetti as a last resort. I felt the service was good. But very rushed. I wouldn't be rushing back to pay full price. I often wonder if these places treat customers who are 'on voucher' differently from full price payers?? The jury's out.

It has been a couple of years since I have eaten here. What has happened to this place. Absolutely soulless. Food used to be reliable but now the cooking is just plain odd. So many flavours on dishes that nothing comes together at all. We counted 9 flavours on one dessert. We could only taste around 3 of them.Breads were cold and chewy. Didn't seem fresh. Wood pigeon starter excellent. Venison main good though there was a strange grainy chocolate puree that was unpleasant to eat and added nothing to the dish. Desserts though completely missed the mark. A lovely gingerbread was let down by some of the strangest accompaniments i have ever seen. The white parsnip and chocolate puree one of the worst things I have eaten in my life. A creme catalan had so much gelatine in it that the Spanish would be ashamed if they were served this. On this showing we will not be back. The Gannet, Cail Bruich, Ox and Finch and new Bilson Eleven all head and shoulders above this. Wine used to be a focus of this place but now you would barely know they served it. No upsell.

I am shocked how much I enjoyed staying here and maybe I shouldn't be but this place as far as I am concerned is a fantastic hotel with a great bar and restaurant , and great hotel rooms , I stayed in the jack vettriano suite which was not expensive at all on a upgrade , huge duplex room and fantastic space , went for dinner the first night and had the full 3 course menu which was really great , piegon and venison and a cheese board with a great wine selection from the waiter , second night I just eat in the bar with a casual meal but the whole experience was a great one , fantastic furnishing and a beautiful regency building wow , can not wait to go back

This evening my friend and I decided to drop in to One Devonshire for a cocktail to celebrate my birthday. We were made to feel very welcome. We had no reservations for dinner and, as the main dining room was full, we opted to eat in the lounge. We were so pleased that we did so. The food was excellent, and the dessert a work out of art - almost too beautiful to eat! Thank you to our waiter, Douglas (very good at his job!). Great customer service from all the staff, we were very impressed and are already planning our next visit. Overall we agreed that this was great value and a truly lovely place for a good catch up with a special friend. I would highly recommend a visit.

We had lunch @ One Devonshire Gardens which was a pleasant experience. The surroundings are somewhat antiquated, but what you'd expect. The staff both pleasant and accommodating. The food is of high quality and our choice on a set lunch menu was reasonable. The quantity was disappointing. I was expecting a smorgasbord, but I was still in need of subsistence after the meal. All in all, worth visiting for the experience, but probably not a regular haunt.

Visited for champagne lunch and to celebrate my husband's birthday. The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and just after our desserts the waitress brought out a plate with happy birthday scrolled on it with small pieces of fudge and jellies, very nice touch. Special mention to our lovely Italian waitress (sorry unsure of the spelling of her name) who was just wonderful and is a credit to the restaurant! Same can't be said for the gentleman who was on the desk as we were leaving who totally ignored the 4 of us standing there waiting for our coats until we had to ask for them. He then brought the coats and handed them out without any pleasantries or enquiry if we had enjoyed our lunch etc. Very poor customer service! But we certainly did not allow him to spoil what was a lovely afternoon.

Just had the 4 course Champagne Lunch which was a Xmas present from our daughter. I'm glad to say her money was well spent. Beautiful surroundings , we sat in a bay window with a view of Great Western Rd, and the staff were very polite and pleasant. Eager to please and to make sure we were happy. Food was amazing and perfect portions for lunch. The voucher stated table was for 1 1/2 hours but we were there for over 2 hours and didn't feel rushed or that we had to leave. Will definitely return, either with or without a voucher. A great experience. Thanks to all the staff.

My wife and I have just returned home having enjoyed the most perfect lunch in the most perfect of surroundings. I will not go into detail other than to say that we will be back for more. I would like to mention the young man who attended our table, his name is Cameron and we could not have asked for more or better attention. He is a credit to this organisation. May I offer one piece of advice: there is no obvious disabled access at the front of the building but if you require access you should phone ahead and the staff will arrange such. Well done all at Number 1 Devonshire Gardens.

4 course champagne lunch sounded great but it was a terrible experience from start to finish. They had lost our reservation- no apology made. Lots of staff but none had a clue. Horrible food. Don't know if the main menu is better but if so why dish up this crap instead? 2 courses were inedible, a third average and the only good one was the cheese bought round the corner at George Mewes. No choice of bread, greasy focaccia or nothing. Smoked haddock parfait turned out to be a fish flavoured slab of butter, truly revolting. Palate cleanser was sickly sweet Angel Delight type concoction, the very opposite of palate cleansing. Main course sea bass broth was just sea bass in chicken stock. I was really looking forward to this trip but if this is the best they can do, they should fire the chef. The staff took away the uneaten food without comment and no one asked if we had enjoyed our meal. Don't waste your money.

Went here for Lunch, it was flawless food from start to finish, with champagne and great service. Can not fault the food, the atmosphere or anything. However the toilet was super dusty/grubby and we had to wait quite a long time to be asked about our bill (about 20 minutes +) which was quite disappointing.I would go back in a heart beat though as the food was lovely, lets hope the service is flawless next time too!

We visited here for a romantic treat, and were not disappointed. The food was outstanding, and beautifully presented; the wine choices were good (you can spend crazy money, but we went for a very nice Pinot Noir at £44). Having pre-booked and pre-paid more than a thousand pounds for Christmas lunch (excluding drinks) for 10 of our family, we turned up a few minutes before the requested time and were duly led to our table.Staff were polite and courteous and we were offered and served drinks in timely fashion. Thereafter things went somewhat downhill. After ordering our food, we waited over an hour for our starters to arrive. After finishing these and the plates being cleared, we then waited a further half hour for our main course to be served. On commenting shortly thereafter to a waiter who was pouring drinks that I felt "the service had been a bit slower than expected", I was greeted with the rather curt response of "Well Sir, you must appreciate it is a busy day for us!"I let the comment go rather than causing a fuss but I ran a silent reply in my head of "yes, of course you're busy - you knew you were going to be as all the tables were pre-booked and perhaps you could have been better prepared...."In summary, our Christmas experience at One Devonshire simply wasn't good enough to choose to repeat. Although staff were polite, they were far from proactive and there was no communication about the timing of or delay to our food arrival. Separately, whilst understanding that it would be inappropriate in the dining environment to overload plates, I had personally ordered the venison and was a little surprised by the lack of food on my plate when it arrived. I wouldn't go so far as to say I left feeling hungry however I certainly didn't leave feeling particularly full which, rightly or wrongly, is an experience I look forward to and expect from my Christmas lunch and indeed the experience I'd hoped for from the £110 per head price paid (excluding wine / drinks). As to the food itself, it would perhaps be unfair of me to be scathing of it as it was quite acceptable however it would equally be too much of a stretch to say it was anything more than that. It's sad, yet safe to say that we'll choose to dine somewhere else in Glasgow next year with a view to avoiding the sense of disappointment we felt as a result of our most recent One Devonshire experience.

Diet coke arrived flat, sent it back and the next one wasn't much better Got the black pudding croquettes which were very nice We got the garlic chicken and Balmoral chicken mains, both lacked sauce. There was just enough for the chicken but not enough for the accompaniments so the veg was a bit sad Got the apple pie and cranachan for dessert. The apple pie had sultanas in it which I don't like and doesn't mention on the menu- I picked them out of half of my slice before I got bored- but the ice cream was nice The cranachan was all cream and sauce, there didn't appear to be any actual raspberries in it and it lacked oats Altogether for a birthday meal that cost just over £100 we were disappointed
