On-The-Rocks at Quigleys in Rugby

Sadly disappointing. having visited on several occasions this was my birthday treat and not a good experience. I pointed out that me lamb rump steak was partly inedible due to large amount of inedible sinew/tendons not fat (I couldn't make headway with cutting it with a knife due to a large layer of sinew). I pointed this out to the waitress and she offered to get me a replacement. We were half way through our meal so it was inappropriate to start my meal again. I suggested that an adjustment to our bill might be a suitable alternative. Very disappointed that this wasn't done nor any apology or explanation. If it hadn't been my birthday treat maybe I wouldn't have been so pissed off but no, will we return, NO will we recommend ? NO. The racket coming from the group of male 'guests' on a nearby table totally outrageous ,completed the poor experience.

We went over Christmas a family group of 10. It was so busy we could only get an early evening booking when it first opened. Nice welcome. Staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Unfortunately there was no Guinness available to drink that was disappointing with steak. Starters were lovely. Main steaks on the rock were fantastic. Chicken was good too. Great experience. No room for desserts as the starters and mains filled us up. Thank you for making the family meal memorable.

Lovely steak restaurant, does exactly what it should! The kids steak meals were awesome, so much more than a kids meal as they got a hot stone too and it made their evening (perfect for the ‘Tween’ who always expects an adult meal but can’t eat it). We will certainly be back, regularly.

You gotta try this restaurant if you are around Rugby. I've been here a few times. Last time, I had the rump steak with salad and sweet potato fries, and everything was lovely! Tip: I recommend putting the meat on the side of the lava stone to avoid overcooking it.

We came into the restaurant on the 8th November, we have heard about the place from a few of our customers but finally managed to get round to visiting! It is such a lovely place, the food was on point! But it was the service that sold it for us, there were 2 girls in particular, I didn't catch their names but they were exceptional, they were both so obliging and both even laughed at my sons terrible/hilarious knock knock jokes! they were so patient with him and treated him with such respect, and enthusiasm. He has never been a fan of eating out as its "boring" but he has said he definitely wants to come back and he was very impressed with his chicken strips and cheese cake. :)

Been wanting to visit for a long time and finally did so tonight. What an experience. If you have the butchers board don't bother with starters. I'm a fussy eater and the meats were all incredible.

The experience here is wonderful, cook your own steak exactly how you like it and the range of sides are mouth watering. Staff are great, drinks are bob on too.

Top experience! Visited on Saturday night as a group of 11. Food was exceptional, steak cuts were delicious, sides all piping hot, service was fab! Highly recommend!

Really nice place with good food. Lovely staff. Ordered rib eye steak (medium rare) was okay but was really cold inside, was expecting to be in room temperature and not salted enough (like not salted at all) but meat quality was really good.

My daughter tried to book for us all to celebrate our granddaughter’s 18th. At first it was thought that we would not be able to go as my husband is disabled, has a mobility scooter and there were too many steps. Then On the Rocks came back to my daughter and suggested we used the ‘smoking area’ at the back. People would not be able to smoke there! We had a marvellous meal and a totally different experience! Such a treat. Highly recommended.

What a gem. All 4 of us had the sirloin steak, which arrived on a hot stone for us to cook for ourselves the way we like it. This was fun to cook and eat it fresh off the stone. The steak was great quality too. Really nice atmosphere, staff were very friendly. I would just say the room can get a little noisy if you are not keen on noise whilst you are eating but it didn’t bother us at all.

Something a little bit different. Food quality steak that we cooked ourselves on a hot rock. Basic but excellent quality. The service was informal but effective... They took the time to explain the slightly unorthodox menu and ordering approach and were attentive during the meal. If you are looking for a sociable, fun evening, then this is certainly worth giving a go.

Went for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. Food was delicious and you cook the steak yourself at the table. Will definitely return!

Went to On the Rocks recently for a work dinner/retirement party. We were a group of around 20 and Lisa and the team took care of everything brilliantly! The food was perfect, the service was faultless and the atmosphere was great. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

I visited on the rocks on Saturday night with my friend and it was such a wonderful evening. We were immediately welcomed to our table by the friendly host. The team were incredibly helpful and attentive, guiding us through the different steaks and sides on offer. The food was delicious, brilliant quality steaks, we both went for the rib-eye and the cheesy mash side was delicious! This wasn’t my first time dining here but it was for my friend and she loved it! Fantastic quality, value and a wonderful atmosphere. We are already planning our next visit back

Eating here is such a great experience. The cuts of meat were beautiful and the sides were excellent too. Also one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had!

Had a great meal here. Food was amazing. Although we have done the whole 'lava rock' thing in other places, it was a great experience. One thing we wish we had done was to ask for a spare side plate or something, as there is never a space to put your steak when you want to take it off the stone and stop it over-cooking. The atmosphere is good, it's quite a small room above a busy pub (which you walk through to get to the restaurant) so we weren't sure what to expect when we first walked in -- but it's totally worth it. Just a small tip: don't make the mistake I did and wear a brand new outfit. You will have to wash everything due to the cooking / smokey smell. (This is not an criticism of the restaurant, it's inevitable due to the format. They do have strong extractor fans to help with this). Would definitely eat here again in the future. It's quite a drive for us or we would come more often but I'm sure we'll be back at some point!

Really tasty food and great service.

It’s surprising how many great restaurants are in Rugby, and this is definitely one of them, unique and different with choosing your choice of steak and cooking it how you like it on a volcanic slate. Will definitely recommend and come back again!

Had a great meal with friends here. The menu is excellent and allows you to pick a cut of meat. The meat is tender and good to be cooked. The staff are there for guidance where needed but the lava stone is pretty self explanatory. We enjoyed cooking (and eating) our steaks. Will look forward to a future visit.

First time visiting tonight and the food was fantastic! But what made it for us was how attentive the staff were, never looking around for service, they were just there making sure we were happy and had everything we needed, amazing experience

A must visit for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in Rugby. We were served by Kennedy who was fabulous. The Salmon with fresh garlic on the hot stone was delicious.

Last night we had an absolutely amazing meal at “On The Rocks”. Right from opening the door to the restaurant our experience was fantastic, the staff were really friendly, polite and helpful. The atmosphere was good and vibrant and the food was amazing! I had the Spanish marinade chicken , which was stunning and my partner had steak (which is always good), everything was so fresh and presented beautifully. My mojito was wonderful and we also had Ferrero cheesecake, made on site-obviously by a genius-lite and perfect. Thank you to all the staff, chefs and everyone that made our evening so special.

A couple of friends and I popped in for an impromptu dinner. Darcy, Holly and Kennedy were brilliant in terms of the overall service experience. The overall hospitality experience and food was excellent. Will definitely be back.

The drinks aren't that good, but that's not why we came here. I recommend educating yourself on this topic. When it comes to meat, it is very good and it is worth coming to this area for this purpose.

Had a great dinner here for valentine's. My only gripe would be I'd wish for a bigger plate so I can rest my steak, I ended up sending salad everywhere. You will come smelling of meat too. :)

We visited On the Rocks for a friends birthday, if you like steak you will love this place, other dishes available too, the portions are good, the staff are very attentive and friendly, drinks are good, plus when you have finished eating you can have a great night downstairs, 5* night out.

Such a brilliant restaurant. I always bring friends and family here. Just make sure to book in advance!

Friendly staff and great food, really enjoyed our visit and would recommend. We had the sharing butchers block which was fun. The only thing I would say that would improve it would be to have separate utensils for handling the raw meat such as some mini tongues and maybe an extra knife in case you want to cut it up prior to cooking, or something like that especially with the butchers block where there is a lot of meat to cook. The stone did start to cool quite a bit towards the end of cooking that being said we managed to cook it all to perfection. It all tasted great and the meat was tender.

Kennedy and her team gave us amazing service. We booked a table for 12 people for our son’s 18th birthday. Kennedy was great at communicating with us at the time of booking. On the night the staff went out of their way to make sure we all had a brilliant evening. Food was as always delicious. Thank you! Highly recommend this restaurant

Food wasn't as satisfying as expected, the lamb was very tough to cut both when raw and cooked. Was very chewy and didn't enjoy at all. Would be a good idea to have separate knives, 1 for cutting raw meat onto lava plate and 1 for cutting and eating cooked meat to save contamination. The dessert was also not of a firm enough consistency. All in all not what I would expect for the high price paid. On a positive all staff were very friendly and polite.

Have been to on the Rocks lots of times and have always enjoyed the experience. But this time we went with a group of friends. The food was great as usual but we had a miserable waitress, It wasn’t overly busy but she never spoke just dropped the drinks on the end of the table, her colleague helped her bring the food and she was pleasant but our regular waitress never spoke. It was really uncomfortable whenever she came to the table which is a shame.

Six of us went here for their festive menu and it didn’t disappoint! The food was brilliant, really tasty and it was presented beautifully. Service was excellent too….thank you! Will definitely recommend 😄

We loved this night out, great food, good service and a lovely atmosphere all made for a good night. It is a little pricey but well worth it for the quality of food and the whole cooking off the stone thing is a bit of fun. All the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Something as a regular treat for us in the future.

So me and my partner booked a last minute meal for the steak experience on the rocks. It was AMAZING! We had such a nice time being little chefs at our table and had the pleasure of being served by Jacob who was so down to earth and kind. We will most definitely be back with family soon!xo

Our food was delicious, service was good and staff very friendly. My only criticism is that when they boards came out there was 3 pots, 1 butter but no idea if plain or garlic 2 sauces which had to be tasted to see. Just a minor detail but would of enhanced the experience. Also both are glazes where not available

Our recent dining experience left us with a mix of feelings. The moment we arrived, we were promptly informed about the necessity to vacate our table by 21:00 due to reservations for other people, which wasn’t said in the most welcoming way. The service from certain staff members was wonderful, contributing positively to our overall experience. However, the downside was the presence of some staff who came across as unprofessional and even rude at times. While I appreciate the need for certain protocols, the decision to impose a £25 per head charge for individuals who failed to show up seemed fairly harsh. This policy, combined with the rigid approach to the 21:00 departure, led to an awkward and uncomfortable situation for many of us. Handling these matters with more finesse and understanding would definitely enhance the overall customer experience.

Went to restaurant with work colleagues was a bit worried about cooking my own steak but it was absolutely fabulous one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time staff were lovely and friendly to will definitely be back when working in rugby again

My son chose the restaurant for his birthday meal! As a massive steak lover, for him it was his perfect place! I have to say it was an excellent choice, we all had different things, steaks, chicken and vegetarian steaks! As the whole experience is pretty unique, where you cook your meats your way, on your own hot lava slabs, everyone was happy with their meal! I loved my steak and the cheesy mash was the best I’ve ever eaten!! It was a lovely meal, which we followed up with an equally lovely dessert! As it was my sons birthday they treated him to his dessert on the house, which was a very much appreciated gesture. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming and took the time to explain how the meal experience worked! It was certainly one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant! We will all definitely be eating there again. Thank you to everyone at the venue for a great meal! I couldn’t recommend this place enough!!!

I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend for his birthday. Normally I'm not really a meat eater and especially no steak but I booked it for my boyfriends birthday because he loves steak. But after that visit, I couldn't stop thinking about the food there because it was so good and I also enjoyed the Fillet Steak that I had so much! It was such a nice experience cooking your own meat on the lava stone and it was so much fun to do so. I can't wait to come back to eat there again. Service was amazing, very welcoming and helpful. They explained how everything works and gave us suggestions on how to handle the lava stone. A little nice extra that they offer is if you book a table on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday after 6PM, you're able to book it with 15% off all your Mains which is a nice plus. But either way, the food is definitely worth the money. When you enter the building you get into a kind of Pub/Bar only for drinks and you have to go upstairs to get to the restaurant, so don't be irritated at first. I can definitely recommend this place to all the steak lovers or for people who like to give it a try, as you see, even if I don't really like to eat steak I ended up loving it.

Heard great things about this bar/restaurant have been in for drinks a couple times so me and the wife booked in the restaurant .we had whole chorizo starter which cooks in front of you was Amazing then I had ribeye and my wife duck breast comes with fresh salad beautiful chips n we added lovely creamy coleslaw ..Meat on hot stones already starting to cook you finish to you liking which is great .I must add the quality of the meat is top notch ...great friendly atmosphere great staff great food we will definitely go again....if your worried about the cooking dont just give it a try its great......

Update 8/23 Really popular place, even on a Monday - maybe partly because not many places open on a Monday but certainly because of its quality. Everything - meat (we all had the sirloin), chips, salad, sauces, additional sides we ordered - was really good. Service excellent too. Obviously different from your normal restaurant, as you cook your own meat on a hot stone (there are other menu options). Meat is of the highest quality and the accompaniments are great too. Good atmosphere and service and a decent drinks menu. Only drawbacks are: it's upstairs, so not good for disabled access, and no parking other than on the street (which can be difficult) or in nearby car parks.

Amazing steak and fantastic food. Although it's not exactly a 'cheap' meal, it's still very good value for what you get. Probably one of the best restaurants in Rugby. The Irish bar on the ground floor is also fantastic with great music.

Three of us have been working in rugby and we were lucky enough to be invited for a meal at this establishment. Not knowing what we were getting we arrived on site where you go into a bar and then go upstairs to restaurant. Small and very friendly staff ordered drinks and meal. Steaks arrived within 5 minutes on sizzling plate ,plenty of it with sides . Can't fault a thing,meal was outstanding finished with a dessert. Full marks to staff will Most be definitely coming back in the very near future Thanks for a wonderful evening

What a fantastic surprise by my daughter for myself and her sister. The food was exceptional no complaints there. A truly wonderful experience in Rugby. The service was slow on the drinks and forgetful. Once pointed it was resolved very quickly with apologies The cocktails are to die for, and a rather boozy lunch If you are not too mobile there is a downstairs terrace that can be booked in advance.

Good place enjoyed the time with friends the steak was OK even though I cooked it myself the cut did not seem the best. Maybe I picked the wrong cut the others in my group enjoyed their steaks.

First time having to grill my own steaks 🥩 It was a refreshing experience. The sauce was perfect I like the rusty feel of the environment. The started was great too Sadly the dessert 🍨 was a no no! Overall, I would visit again and I recommend.

Best place in Cheddar for all things good

I came here for Valentine’s Day back in February of 2016. Back then I was in my early twenties and on a date with my husband. Reception from the male owner and staff wasn’t pleasant looking back I was wearing a fitted dress to which they were all eye balling me. Maybe I was too smartly dressed for the occasion and along with a pretty face wasn’t treated with the respect my husband was given. I’m writing this review now because looking back I should have been treated with the same respect given to my partner, steak was very heavy. Prawns were light. 2016 Staff and management shady. Food wasn’t great either steak came in thick slices and when cooked were too large and difficult to palette. Not a great experience at all

Absolutely fantastic! Amazing food, amazing experience, amazing staff! We had to re-arrange our booking a few times but the staff were very accommodating, the meat is fantastic and the chips were good too (crispy outside, fluffy inside). We went with 3 vegetarians and two meat eaters, expecting to enjoy the atmosphere but we didn't think the vegetarians would get a rock...but they did! It was great and the halloumi/quorn didn't burn, everything was fantastic and very filling. We were celebrating two birthdays and got a complimentary dessert, which we struggled with :) The atmosphere is great and the decor is very warming, I Highly recommend On The Rocks to everyone. This is my second time going and I will be going again, such a unique experience.

Me and my fiancé stumbled across this place by accident and it was an unexpected delight, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating and the food was phenomenal. We opted for the butchers feast which included a selection of meats from different cuts of steak, as well as lamb and duck, with sides, trio of sauces and a drink each for £80 which we thought was unbelievable value alongside being great cuts of meat! We finished on cocktails served by a lovely waitress that went down perfectly. Overall and amazing meal and will be a frequent visitor in the future. Cheers guys, you’re all a credit to the place!

Highly recommend this place if you want to try something different then in a usual restaurant. The stake cooking by your self is great idea! We went there with our friend for Valentine dinner and the experience we had was fantastic. Definitely will come back. Food great, atmosphere calming and the staff fantastic!

An unusual experience cooking your meat on hot stones but delcious meal. Staff helpful and attentive. Not a huge place so would advise booking especially if in a large group. Bar area downstairs.

We wanted to do something special to celebrate a birthday. Booking for a group of seven was quick and simple and we received a polite and cordial welcome. Service was excellent, attentive but not too intrusive. We enjoyed cocktails and other drinks before starting on the well presented and tasty food. Two of our group had never experienced “On the Rocks” cooking before and they enjoyed the new experience. All of us had lovely meals and a great time. My only reservation is that none of us were able to finish all of the excellent food. I would have preferred the option of a smaller piece of steak to leave more room for the delicious chips and salad and perhaps even a desert. The meal was not cheap at £325.44 for seven people but the quality of the food and the excellent service was still worth it.

Great service, lots of staff on who were very attentive and delicious food. I had salmon but most of the family had steaks and the sides were lovely too as well as the salad that comes with the mains.

A few people had recommended this place to me with glowing reviews. I must say it was amazing, me and my mate had steaks that came out on a hot stone so we could cook as we wanted. The friendly professional staff add to a great atmosphere 👌 10/10

Thursday night, reasonable atmosphere, staff not very attentive or well trained in parts and although the steak was good, paper packets of salt and £32.95 for a fillet seemed on the tad expensive given location and room etc.

Have been to eat here several times over the years and have always had a great experience. Recently went to try the festive menu and was not dissapointed. Absolutely delicious! A big shout out to Jacob that served us, great customer service and recomended some amazing cocktails. Thank you!
