Old Siam in East Hertfordshire

An excellent place for Thai food! The honey duck was cooked to perfection, lovely tasty beansprouts and my pad kee maow was full of flavour and spice. We were sat in the section where you couldn’t wear your shoes, further adding to the authentic atmosphere. A lovely place and will definitely be revisiting.

One of the best places for thai food in the area. Portions are huge and taste is amazing. Lovely atmosphere and the staff is perfect. It gets very busy so maybe book a table or give them a call in advance. Highly recommend.

I have been here a few times now and I really think the place is faultless. The service is good, decor very good and the place is clean. The food is outstanding and extremely reasonably priced. I’d recommend choosing something that you’ve not had before as I can guarantee you it will blow you away. This is now my “go to” Thai restaurant. The place gets busy so you will need to call a week or so in advance for a table of 4 or more. We spent about £85 as a couple but we had 4 starters, two mains, two sides and several drinks.

Being vegetarian I was pleased to see that they had veggie options on the menu. The starter was deep fried bean curd (Tofu). As soon as I bit into it the oil came pouring out, it was awful. The chili sauce seemed like it was just out of a regular bottle, nothing special. Then it was green curry, average. The sticky rice was served in a plastic bag and in a basket, its all too messy. The beer I ordered was warm. The restaurant did not have my reservation although I had called through 3 days earlier and the service was OK but food and drinks served so fast you felt like you were being rushed out the door. The whole place is a bit dated for me and could do with a face lift. On the plus side, my friend loved her sliced duck and said it was to die for. I guess that's why we were in there.

We only stopped in for a quick bite and we managed to get the last table as it seems really popular. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the service was so quick we barely waited for our food to arrive and it was very tasty. Reasonably priced too, we'll definitely come back.

Whenever Old Siam is suggested for a meal with family or friends, I will always drop everything to make sure I am there. The food is out of this world, always of a high quality and generous portions. Both dining areas differ in decor and atmosphere but are very welcoming and the staff are incredibly attentive.

The food is always ok - never outstanding but always tasty. It’s the service that lets it down though - so disorganised and slow. They forgot dishes, bought out one dish that was so tough we couldn’t cut it. They replaced it but by that time everyone else had finished. Took ages to get the bill and ages to get their attention to pay. And the service charge was nearly £30 as we were a group of 10…. They’re nice friendly people but we’ll go elsewhere next time.

Ordered for collection, however I could just tell that their hospitality is amazing, and better yet the food was absolutely amazing. In my opinion, everything tasted so fresh, it was great. Will be coming back to dine in!

This is the best Thai food in Hertford. The food was Yummy and the service was amazing . It was a full restaurant on a Tuesday night and yet we didn't have to wait long to be served. They staff were delightful and very welcoming. I had Sea Bass in a garlic and chilli sauce. I had a whole fillet and it was melt in the mouth. You have to book as it is so popular.

Highly sought after restaurant. Always struggle to get a booking but eventually got one and it did not disappoint. Incredible tasting food with lovely staff.

Nice decor, staff really friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are happy. The food was really tasty and great value. We had a mixed starter for 2 and the Grilled King Prawns in coriander sauce were really tasty.

Probably one of the nicest Thai restaurants I've visited in the UK. It is genuinely Thai run. The food compares to restaurants in Bangkok .. and staff always went out of their way to make me Thai dishes that weren't on the menu .. but is very common in a restaurant in Thailand. Highly recommend this place!

We came here to celebrate a birthday and had a fabulous experience. The portions are generous and the food is beautifully presented. Service was attentive, helpful and speedy. Atmosphere was great and even though we came on a Wednesday evening, it was busy. Chicken Satays and Mushroom/coconut soup were delicious, red curry was excellent and chicken dishes great. Good for vegan and gluten free and kitchen happy to modify to accommodate soy sensitivity and vary spiciness. Wines nicely selected and of good quality at a reasonable (for a restaurant) price. Had a bottle of Prosecco and Sancerre. Not cheap but good value for money.

Was pretty bustling busy when we went, however the food was really disappointing. Satay skewers were bland, fischakes were small, barely any squid in the salt and pepper squid... Then for our mains, we got four medium sized prawns for £17.95 which is a rip off and deep fried sea bass was just oily with no flavour! The people giving this a good review must never had real thai food. In terms of the service, the staff were really pushy with more drinks and gave me a strange look when I asked for tap water.

Was walking through Hertford and stumbled on to this fabulous place. The food was great, the atmosphere and service were amazing. The restaurant was busy on a Monday evening, that has to say something about how good it is. Would come back if I’m back in Hertford!

My family went here for a birthday meal, 4 adults and I spent £140.00. The food was great and the service staff to but when it came to paying the bill I declined the 10% service charge automatically added to the bill as I was going to leave a cash tip for the staff. The guy who I presume was the manager changed he's attitude on my notification of my intention and presented himself in a discourteous manner, he snatched the card machine away from me after I had entered my pin and when asked for a receipt he just showed me the screen on the machine. I made him aware of my dislike of he's manners and made my way out, there was no answer from him just a look and I left. Be aware of the disctionary charge and don't be bullied by the management...

Lovely food and an authentic feel inside

Nice authentic Thai food with a relaxing atmosphere. I went with friends and our kids and we all really enjoyed the food. We will definately come back.

The restaurant was nicely decorated and the staff were very welcoming and service was quick, however the food was mediocre. We started with chicken Satay and spicey coconut soup, which were both quite nice, so we were looking forward to the mains of prawn Pad Thai and red Thai curry. The Pad Thai had a greasy taste, like old cooking oil and was lacking in any Thai fragrant flavours, I found it just bland and sloppy. The red curry was the same really, it just tasted like red curry paste with coconut milk, there was no zesty lime or fresh Coriander, I can definitely cook better Thai food at home. It's a shame because the restaurant has great reviews, but apparently the people who have given 5 stars probably haven't eaten proper Thai food. The presentation was good and the lunchtime menu was reasonably priced but the main courses were lacking authentic Thai aromatic flavours.

We love this place and it never disappoints. Always good food and service. I had the steamed seabass and my other half had the red chicken curry and both were perfect. The place is always heaving at weekends, so you should always book. Food is decently priced.

The decor looks cool and authentic. It's a really great experience for a special occasion. I wish I could rate the food higher. It's not bad at all, but it wasn't great either, but in a place like this and for the price, you'd want it to be great. I don't want to say too much about the service, because we attended for lunch on mothers day and it was really busy, so it was bit of an effort trying to get the waiters attention.

I have eaten Thai all over the world and I have never eaten such bland and terrible Thai as was served tonight. I ordered my favourite Weeping Tiger beef. It was so overcooked and insipid that I left half. Zero flavour and zero spice. The husband of the couple we were dining with tried some (he's a foodie), and he commented that it's so terrible and overcooked that it shouldn't be called 'weeping', but rather renamed 'slightly peeved'!

My family and I have been to Old Siam several times. We went again last night. We had great time! The food and the staff are always friendly and accommodating. and the food is consistant in terms of quality and taste. One of the best places to dine out in Hertford!

Ella sort your kitchen out! Great front of house and truly great great starters Main course a total total insipid let down its panage it should be so thick and lovely but instead watery and such a let down , lamb sizzler no lamb plus water. We had dinner at the old Siam tonight and I can highly recommend this beautiful restaurant, the food was absolutely outstanding from starters to mains, the best spring rolls and prawn toast I ever tasted, we had sizzling beef which was so tender it melted in the mouth, then prawn and chicken pad Thai (yes we are greedy) then sticky rice and green Thai chicken curry, the food was popping hot and served very quickly The service is perfect and the staff is so pleasant Will definitely be back

Exceptional food is served with carved vegetables on authentic Thai dishes. Everything is freshly made using first class ingredients. The king prawns and duck were especially good!

This place is the best, the food is fantastic, generous portions, immaculately presented, the dishes are like works of art - the staff are wonderful, very friendly with great service and it's a lovely comfortable place with dark wood panelling. Much better than some Thai restaurants I've been to in London recently, I can highly recommend Old Siam in Hertford and definitely plan on coming back! AAAAAAA++++++++

OK, so having been to Thailand, like most restaurants in the UK, it may not be quite 100% authentic and it would be hard to match the superlative service you get out in the Far East. That said though, the six of us arrived on a busy Saturday night on the day before New Year's Eve and the atmosphere was busy and buzzing. We waited a couple of minutes to be seated and as a result got a lovely round table in a little alcove area which meant we could all talk to, and see each other in our group of friends and felt like we had our own exclusive little corner which really added to the evening and made it more fun. The food we ordered was all served fresh & hot. Great starters included duck & pancakes and the old siam mixed platter. Mains were all delicious and really appreciated by everyone, so much so that we were all sharing and trying each other's dishes, including Goong Ma Kham, Goong Chu Chee, Honey Duck and Massaman Lamb...all delicious. The thai crackers are also yummy. We enjoyed this with a bottle of Cava (not the best quality, I'd recommend you buy in Codorniu) and a bottle of Fleurie french red which was a nice wine. Overall, the bill came to £226 for 6 people including service and drinks which for Hertford is very reasonable. I hasten to add that there is a lot of competition for dining out in this affluent town so Old Siam is really doing a great job of serving yummy food at a fair price. Highly recommended.

A warm welcome as soon as you walk in. Extremely polite staff. A lovely restaurant with authentic surroundings. Excellent quality food with lots of choices. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I ate here when we stayed in Hertford on 2nd December. The food and service was impeccable. Our table was booked for 7.30pm on a Saturday night and the restaurant was really busy. If we hadn't pre booked a table we would have got in. The food was delicious 😋 I had the vegetarian Pad Thai and my husband had the honey duck (amongst other dishes) which he really enjoyed. The staff were attentive and friendly. We would definitely dine here again .

Old Siam in Hertford is a great Thai Restaurant. Very welcoming and you get the real feeling that they appreciate your custom. Vast range of starters and an extensive range of main courses, rice and noodle dishes. Parking is not easy but worth the effort as the meal was very enjoyable.

I was alittle disappointed in the sharer starter..luke warm and not alot of taste..arrived at 8.30pm was busy by 10.30 dead..and staff hoovering as wanted to go home!

Yet again this restaurant is the best Thai around south.. what a treat!! Even when having a takeaway and still fresh 3 hours later in a warming draw. The best part is we have only had the chicken satay 10/10 and ribs that I’m catching the meat falling off the bone into the beautiful honey juice… just wow So looking forward to the rest just had to share 🥳

The massaman curry was lukewarm and very sweet not how I remember it should taste! There was no knives to cut the really chunky lamb meat and potatoes and egg rice was awful I couldn’t eat it at all very sticky and clumped together. The sharing dips were very very minimal and hard to dip with the food from the platter not much selection of rice either no jasmine, no coconut, service charge was a surprise as you had no choice to pay! Quite expensive for what there was in portions! 😩

We’re been to Old Siam quite a lot, on our own or with friends and family. I have to say this is probably our favourite restaurant. The food is delicious and always serviced hot and very quickly. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend and we will certainly go back many more times

We booked this restaurant for our Wedding Anniversary dinner after reading the complementary reviews. Having sat down we ordered drinks and perused the menu and surprised that they didn’t offer a set menu, which is first for me eating in a Thai restaurant, not that we would of ordered it but it would have been nice to have the choice. We went for the mixed platter starter for 2, Chicken pad Thai, crispy chilli beef, prawn Pad king and Thai fragrant rice for mains. The mixed platter for 2 was delicious although clearing the plates away whilst I was still eating my last mouthful was inappropriate. On eating the main course I found a small inedible item in my mouth which I initially thought was a filling as it was metal however on checking this was not the case so it had to be in one of the dishes. During our main course we was not asked how our meal was so I advised my findings when we finished to be told it wasn’t metal but a burnt piece of the crispy chilli beef which was laughable and insulting. As it was our anniversary dinner I did not pursue this further. We ordered 2 Irish Coffees to finish which were very bitter as there was no sugar added and the cream was out of a can and not poured over the back of a spoon as it should be. We got the bill - £99 including service and left. Our booking was for 7 o’clock and we left at 8.10. This was supposed to be a lovely, un-rushed celebratory evening eating great food however it was a rushed, service less experience with average at best food. The Salah Thai in Ware is far superior in all aspects which we will go to for our next Thai meal and not here. Thank you Old Siam for ruining our Wedding Anniversary!

This is the best Thai place I’ve been to and soo glad it’s right on my doorstep. Great place for food, whether it’s eat in with my partner or friends or grabbing a take away, Old Siam always delivers!

Food was tasty good and generous portion. 3 star because: 1. the service charge was forced upon us although it was supposed to be optional. 2. a dish that we asked to not add any meat or fish. But Just vegetables were charged same as with meat and fish and cost nearly £5 more. 🤔 3. Really pricey than some other thai places just next to Old Siam. And with forced service charge and others point made, it was nearly £9 that we spend on nothing we wanted.🙄

Returned to Hertford just to visit this restaurant, where we hadn't been since before the Covid pandemic. It was just as good as ever. The menu has a huge selection and the food is beautifully cooked and presented. Prices are very reasonable. Service is prompt, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!

If I could give the Old Siam 10 stars I would. Everything is spot on; the food, the atmosphere and the service. Be sure to try the honey duck, and the sizzling lamb. I will always come back to and recommend this restaurant.

Super clean, staff very friendly and welcoming. Lots of choice. We opted for the mixed starters which were lovely. For main the Massauman curry was a winner and the noodle dish with beef and vegetables had the perfect texture. Very tasty food indeed.

A very popular restaurant so booking is essential. Food is well presented and interesting. Staff are helpful but it does get very busy and is quite large. Would definitely go again.

We have a beautiful family meal here with fantastic service and taste to die for. We have visited multiple times and have not been disappointed once. Lovely atmosphere with great decor and lovely small touches like playing designed to keep food warm though minimal spice information on menus (though staff more than make up for this with their helpfulness). Our first visit here and a restaurant I have wanted to try for some while. Was not disappointed, glad we pre booked as was full notnlong after opening at 6pm (Mothers Day) Was lucky enough to be seated in their special area at the back of the restaurant with some authentic style seating at lowered tables (luckily the main floor is recessed for your legs. Food and service was top notch and will be planning to come here everyone we fancy a Thai meal.
