Old Queen's Head in Sheffield

Food and drink prices comparable to elsewhere, perhaps slightly higher on drinks but still not bad considering it's basically attached to the bus station. Might of been a bad day with some staff off sick or something but our experience was having to chase down staff for drinks and food taking just over an hour to show up which is a shame as when the food did turn up it was quite good.

Gorgeous historical pub but lacks ambience.

Good pub, good grub, good staff

£15 for a flat pint, a bland burger (it was supposed to come with lettuce, onion and tomato, but came with no toppings other than cheese which cost me extra), and a sad handful of about 8 flavourless chips. I asked them if I could get proper toppings, and they said they would "fix it" - about 30 minutes passed before someone came out to tell me that they couldn't do anything about it. Apparently their vegetables had "gone bad" or something, but they didn't offer me a refund or any consolation. I don't recommend spending money here.

Great pub, great atmosphere, great history… but the chef is diabolical, he needs sacking! The food arrived after a lengthy wait… cold! We sent it back and after another 30 minute wait the food arrived, microwaved! This resulted in diarrhoea, no more than 15 minutes after eating the food.

Popped in yesterday to check if we could bring friends for lunch today, football was on so wanted to check it would be ok. Was told it would be fine, might be a few supporters at the bar but if we wanted a quiet lunch we could sit round the corner. On arrival the bar area was busy so we headed round the corner, found a table then the bat maid came and ordered us out as it was a private function. Wtf this place seriously needs new management.

Very nice food!!! And very reasonably priced. My mom and me went for a roast dinner the other sunday and My mom has an allergy to Pork and Rosemary. All of this was avoided and we had a lovely meal for the price! £7.99 is a bargain!!! Roast dinners have gone up to £9.95 now. The burger was awesome aswell and the jacket potatoes are good! All the food is nice to be fair On Friday was a great night with some live music. Enjoyable evening. My friends enjoyed it too. 😁 New owners can’t do enough for you, very accommodating and so friendly. Highly recommend 😃

It’s a great little pub. A building steeped in history. The beer was well kept and very reasonably priced. The staff were super friendly and were welcoming. They made my son smile with some football banter and tales of a haunted toilet. Which is top tier entertainment for a 7 year old. Had a great time. Highly recommended.

Stopped in various times for a drink and a sit down with friends and loved ones. A lovely little boozer with great history and options to sit in the older side of the newer side. Chatting or sports, it's up to you. Food looks and smells great, though I haven't had a chance to taste it myself (yet) For those of you who are into it, the pub boasts several ghosts, though (of course) this isn't guaranteed.

We were looking for Sunday Roast after going to the swimming pool and tried out luck at the Old's Queen Head. Great building, nice staff, fast service, and an amazing roast! Tasty and large portion, all you want from a nice meal. Thank you!

Had a meal with co-workers today and the food was amazing! The portions are more than generous and the food cooked to perfection. There is a nice range of beers too. Now food is back on, we will be lunching more often here. 10/10

This is one of the oldest buildings, let alone pubs in Sheffield. It's full of character, both inside and out, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food they serve is nice also. Always a pleasure when I visit. Thank you all. I'll see you again next time 😊

Outstanding gem close to train station and next to bus station. Extremely friendly and warm and welcoming. Great staff and fabulous food. I added this review before Covid, and at the time, it was true. Since then, it has had some trouble. But, today, I went in, and there is a new management team. They seem really nice and I can only hope for the best for it's future.

Really friendly pub, the landlady is a giggle

Nice looking pub. We went for the comedy court room roast which was really good. The lady behind the bar was incredibly rude. Won’t ever go back, unless they get some decent staff

The lady that served us looked annoyed that a group of us had ordered a drink. Lovely old building ruined by the old lady behind the bar.

Lovely pub unfortunately the woman behind the bar was super grumpy. It was as if we were an inconvenience to her ordering 16 pints of various beers.

Shocking staff. Barmaid acted as if it wasn't her job to serve us (we were the only people at the bar at the time) and made some rather unpleasant comments which could of been interpretatsd as racist though I won't jump to conclusions. I will say, good variety of beer on tap, albeit about £5 a pint. If the staff were competent, it would be a must visit due to its history, but I won't be returning in a hurry.

Met friends for lunch. The mushroom stroganoff was very tasty. Pub was very quiet, which suited us, but they deserve more custom! The only problem was the accessible toilet which needs a proper handle bar to help one get on and off the toilet! And a bit of maintenance

Would be nice if they stayed open until the closing time they state on google. 9:45pm on a Wednesday and big wooden doors are shut on the front but there’s still people sat on the benches outside? Just feels like they only want their mates there instead of other customers. Sometimes the pub doors will be open but you won’t get a drink because the barman has already cashed up and switched the tills off.

Went in a couple of weeks ago and although a lovely looking pub, as previous reviewers have mentioned, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired, to the point where the landlady was outright rude. In a time when pubs are struggling too.

Went after work a couple of days ago and was served by one of the rudest barman I've ever met. The young lad genuinely looked angry that a group of people wanted a drink (looking at how dead the place was you would think he would be happy). Honestly never seen anything like it. Beer was expensive as well (but tbh everywhere is in Sheffield at the moment). Had one pint and left and will never go back.

Been using the Old Queens Head for more years than I care to remember. Never seems to change, always a good atmosphere with excellent service and top quality food and drinks on offer.

Had a great time visiting the pub, awesome atmosphere and awesome staff. Made some really good friends while I was there. Would definitely return to the UK to visit the pub again.

Not been in before but was recommended and didn't disappoint - great choice of craft beer, we settled on a great pint of Abbeydale Deception, didn't eat but menus looked good! Not too busy for a Saturday afternoon but busy enough - would highly recommend a visit 👍

Need update anything from food to drink, we don't have anymore great food what is show on menu now, same about drinks especially proper Pilsner Urquell, don't have anymore what bar staff say..... looks so quiet now under new management ( not surprised cos if someone changed best lager in world for B class Carling...call madri))))) ) menu is looks like some chippy shop ((((( sadly say not a recommended.

A very nice pint - 6 hand pumped ales on. Carpets and upholstered chairs make it quiet and comfortable.

Had fish and chips, well, the menu said chips but what I got was burnt, black, grease filled potatoes. Cold plates. Chef shrugged his shoulders when we mentioned it. We'll never eat here again.

We had a meal of fish and chips. And it was awful. Home made chips thar were burnt and cold. For £10 it was very poor.

Poor quality food. Fish and chips ordered. Never ever had “chips” like that. Allegedly described by the chef as home cooked chips, they were burnt, cold, fatty and inedible. Why, when others eating appeared to have French fries with their meals?

When in Sheffield,the Old Queens Head is my go to place. Called in today and had a bite to eat. Had the Sea Bass .Absolutely gorgeous. Thanks Head Chef Ryan,Manager Lisa and staff. Highly recommended 👌.

A really awful pub, toilets full of graffiti and vandalised. Expensive mediocre beer and the food is straight out of a school dinner catalogue. It might be under new ownership but it's the same depressing pub that it has always been

Held my mum and dad's golden wedding anniversary here recently. Lisa and her team were absolutely fantanstic, nothing was too much trouble and they made us all feel so welcome. The atmosphere at the Old queen's head is wonderfully cosy with friendly people. Mum and dad loved it. Thank you all so much.

Classic old pub in Sheffield's center. Location is super handy for access to the sheffield bus interchange. Usually quiet, good beer selection and friendly staff. UPDATE: under the new landlord this pub has declined SIGNIFICANTLY in terms of customer service and quality of the ale. I ordered my favorite pint on my recent visit, it tasted foul. I returned it and found the landlady to be very passive aggressive regarding my comments that it didn't taste as it should. She poured a new pint, it was clear as expected and looked night and day compared to the original. However it still started awful and left a burning feeling on my lips. I dare not complain again given the first interaction. Interestingly she never asked if it was better. Hopefully this is just a temporary issue and perhaps training on customer service and line cleaning will follow soon!

Lovely ,friendly bar staff ,good old boozer . Clean ,plenty of seating . At the bus station and across from the train station a great place to meat up with friends and work mates before heading off into the town centre, and a safe place to wait for your bus or train before heading home

Visited with my Mate Andy yesterday afternoon to check it out given there's a new licensee....A pleasant lady....There was next to no one in but I was impressed.....The most important thing for me is the quality of the beer....In being a Thwaites house, as ever it has the Thwaites range but also has 2 guests....I had a couple of pints of one - Bradfield Jack O' Lantern. At 4.5% it was a cracker - in excellent condition.....I asked the landlady who did the cellarwork...She advised she did.....She's doing a great job..... If you love top notch real ale, please go and give her support! Like myself you'll be back... Congratulations and the best of luck!

My husband comes here every week to meet friends and play games. Nice friendly pub, good beer and central location.

Quiet and cosy, having changed hands a number of times the atmosphere seems to be losing its cosiness, and the food quality has dropped significantly over the past few months as a number of people have come and gone. The kitchen is now closed when Im here, so I cant comment on the food now. Price of a double Kraken and Lemonade has jumped up by £2.10 though.

Enough tables outside and a suntrap.

Staff didn't appear to have a record of our booking. Service was okay, food not bad but nothing spectacular either. Not sure we will bother again

Beautiful, very old building with a bar in the middle. Cask ales and draft beer. Large selection of chips and other snacks. My draft ale was fresh and delicious. If necessary (Sheffield is playing) football will be broadcast.

Went for a lunchtime meal, it was really excellent. Beautiful pub and the food was delicious (a really nice chicken burger & chips which were hot) for about £6.50! We did not have to wait long. Thank you.

Love how traditional this pub is very homely just abit pricey but like it none the less

A real shame it used to be a great place to have drinks. Now it's dirty with mice running about and the staff look at them as if there pets.

Decent beer selection, gorgeous building, decent location. Includes the history of the building written up inside and has lots of amazing carvings done into the wood and timber frames.

Only been in twice so far, but from my visit, seemed to have a good atmosphere. Thee beers they had on cask were nice too, and well poured.

One of my favourite places to visit, usually on a Tuesday after badminton. The beer is always great, food lovely and good value. Staff brilliant and really friendly. Great atmosphere. Only a couple of minutes walk from the train station. What's not to love?

Came here a few times as the other half's family really love it. It's such a cute and cosy little old fashioned pub inside snd I like that as it really makes you feel at home, will always enjoy coming here for a drink

This 15th-century timber framed pub is the oldest surviving domestic building in Sheffield. The menu, decor, and even some of the regulars could be mistaken for relics from that century, yet it has a certain charm and undeniable character. Always seems to have a decent selection of beers and the food though basic is good value and relatively tasty. Quiet during the day but can get quite lively in the evening.

Nice authentic feel pub. Looks a bit like to old boys house in UP as other buildings have grown around it.

Not been here for years and not how I remember it but brought good memories back.

I only spent a short while in here but I do intend going back again, from the outside it's an iconic building sitting in the middle of all new buildings but I am glad it's not been redeveloped as that would be such a shame, inside I was surprised as its quite modern in appearance the staff were very friendly

Traditional looking pub with a very nice atmosphere. Plenty of room for large or small groups. There is also a room upstairs available to rent for those looking for a bit more privacy. The menu has a lot of options with the fish and chips being a recommend from me.

This was one of my favourite pubs in Sheffield when I lived in Sheffield I use to go in the pub on most days with a few of my rail enthusiasts mates. The meals they serve were absolutely excellent and the beers was superb. Now people say this pub is supposedly haunted well I can honestly say the pub as got a few ghosts in it. I was in the pub late one Sunday night at about 21:45 I was stood with the old landlord and a few friends talking and having a beer, when one of the half pint glasses that was on the counter under the optics slowly moved across the top of the counter. The counter top was dry and clean but before the pub was refurbished and it had the small room me and a fellow friend saw a man sitting at the table with a black coat and tricorn hat. We went to talk to him but he just vanished.i have heard footsteps in coming through the main door on to the tiles and there as been nobody there. I really miss this pub and all the friends I use to see in the pub had some great nights in the Old Queens Head there as been some excellent landlords and landlady's in the pub who was always pleased to see you.
