Old Post House in Cardiff

We had dinner on a Friday evening. The service was superb. We all had fish main dishes with garlic bread as a starter. Our son loved the garlic bread. All the fish dishes were excellent. Shout out for the dauphinoise potatoes, which I could inhale. As a famous general said, I will return.

Most stunning food I think I've ever had. Can't praise it enough. I would eat here every day if I could. Will return very soon Thank you 😊

Only went for coffee and cake with a friend. Coffee is delicious, and most cakes are handmade and beautiful. I've been twice now with friends for a catchup and the lady serving us with short dark hair is very friendly and helpful.

Absolutely grim 🤮 waitress used toilet, came out of cubical and didn’t wash her hands, she immediately went to the bar and started serving…. Absolutely disgusting

As a group of six foodies lol, we go out every four weeks to try different restaurants. On occasions we are pleased and at times not, even though some continue to thrive on past recommendations. The Old Post House in St Fagans, Cardiff should hold their heads high. From the first greeting upon arrival, to being escorted to our table was a wonderful experience as the decor and little nooks and crannies where other diners sat was exquisite. Us six came for the Christmas Menu, which can leave you underwhelmed or excited, the Old Post House fitted the super excited category. The little touches through our meal was joyous and each and every one of us enjoyed our side appetiser. My starter was simply wonderful with poignant tastes tantalising your taste buds, all six verified the same. I went for main course for the Christmas Dinner, turkey wrapped in bacon with the most delicate textured gravy and wonderfully prepared vegetables, in fact we all agreed that the food was sensational considering the kitchen staff must have been under a lot of pressure. Our deserts were perfect, along with ice cream to die for. After our meal we sat and relaxed and never felt under pressure to move on. The service from the serving team was 5 star each and every one knowing their boundaries and knowledge of when to interact with their guests. Now this is how a restaurant should be, in house training to perfection and it shows. We live local to the Old Post House and we never realised what a gem was on our doorstep, we shall certainly be returning to try out the other menus on offer. Brilliant afternoon tea...what a fabulous treat. Fantastic food, excellent service. Go there!! I returned December 2023 for a Christmas lunch with a group of 21 people. Again, excellent food, superb service and everyone in the group was extremely happy with everything. Thank you for giving us such a memorable meal.

Vile and shocking behaviour of owner and manager Chris. My mother has severe dietary intolerances so opted to take her own food to a group Christmas meal with the full agreement of the organiser. Despite not wanting to take the risk of eating food prepared in the restaurant she also paid in full like everyone else. Due to what I can only assume is a huge misunderstanding, manager and owner Chris confronted her at the table for eating her own food and not paying, which was simply not the case. Despite being told by my mother as well as everyone else around her that she had paid, he continued to berate and accuse her to the point of tears. She tried to leave the table to remove herself from the situation and was confronted by him on her way to the toilet and again as she came out of the toilet. This vindictive behaviour is absolutely appalling and was beyond unnecessary let alone unwarranted. Chris was contacted after the meal to see why he thought this behaviour was appropriate or necessary and to see what the reason was for not doing any fact checking before he pursued his bizarre vendetta (and to give him the chance to apologise for being so cruel and ruining an evening), and continued to pursue this strange confrontational behaviour and mentioned that the phone call was being recorded for some reason. An attitude like that has absolutely no place in hospitality, which is a field I work in myself. I would wholeheartedly advise against visiting this establishment should you be at the receiving end of the same treatment. The website laughably states “a homely, friendly & welcoming approach where no ask is too big”, and that Chris himself likes to ensure guests’ experience is “second to none”!

Went there for a family gathering. All well organised and the Sunday menu suited all tastes. Food, hospitality and venue great and all meals were reasonably priced. Friendly and helpful staff, so well worth a visit.

Beautiful location, Restaurant (no longer a hotel) a hidden gem. Menu attached, Vegetarian and other dietary requirements met. Friendly helpful staff.

Had lovely lunch at this venue for my sisters birthday . The food was excellent and our service was very good. The waitress was very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble .

Another lovely lunch eaten here! Lovely friendly staff, nice ambience and above all delicious food. Prices are reasonable for freshly cooked food with thought and flavour. I usually order fish mains as they do them so well - Hake & Sea Bass a personal favourite. Good wine & desert options available. Looking forward to dining here again soon

Had Sunday lunch, restaurant was clean , beautifully furnished, and roomy. Food was excellent and plentiful. The service was excellent, very pleasant polite waitress. Will definitely visit again soon.

Love this place. Been a couple of times and had a really nice meal. Recommend this place. Only one time we asked to move seats as people near us were too noisy but host promptly moved us no problem.👍

Sunday lunch was lovely. Staff were accommodating to dietary requirements and great with my little girl. The place is nice without seeming too posh and stuffy. Would visit again for sure. Great value for the quality of food too.

We celebrate our wedding here in 2016 and the location, rooms and service were over the top. It is all down to the staff who is taking care of everything. Tonight we went back for an early dinner and still an amazing place with beautiful atmosphere, amazing staff and high quality food. Still our favourite in Cardiff

Just had afternoon tea here for a baby shower, absolutely lovely place, service excellent, staff lovely! Excellent gluten free afternoon tea, if anyone is looking for this option..highly recommend.

A little bit more than a typical carvery but the quality difference was easily worth it and then some. The menu was small but the ingredients were fresh, well prepared, and perfectly seasoned.

The food is absolutely amazing here. It's our favourite place to eat at. The service is always brilliant and the venue has recently been done out- it looks great!!

I organised my son's 40th birthday dinner here in Feb 2023 and was extremely pleased with the organisation and service. We were 18 people and all food was excellent. We had one long table which is what I'd requested, I couldn't have been more pleased. Many thanks to Faye, James and team.

Friendly, professional service and relaxing atmosphere. Food absolutely delicious with a variety of dishes chosen by our party. Sensible sized portions and elements to the meals which left enough room to enjoy a selection of desserts amongst us. Excellent value. Our time there passed very quickly.

The second midday meal at the Old Post House and a second great meal. It's a little gem. Service is good, food is great, and the atmosphere is great. Cracking little deli on the side to shop in after you eat. Evening meal is also great. Price is very good. We will be going back soon.

Afternoon Tea I organised afternoon tea for 30 people and it was amazing. Great food, great service, the staff couldn’t do enough. I’ve even booked our Christmas Meal for the same amount of people. I would highly recommend this place and will be back for afternoon tea again. AmandaTucker 6/10/22

Restraunt was great. We had a trio of fish and a basket of fresh chips. We fid not stay here.

We used Old Post House for our wedding in July, booking a year in advance. From day one there was no question left unanswered. Our coordinator switched part way through from Cheralyn to Faye and the transition was barely noticeable as it was so smooth. The day came and the rooms were great, the reception was fantastic. Food was amazing. We were thoroughly looked after. 100% would recommend.

A lovely afternoon tea. We all enjoyed it. The sandwiches were fresh. Great choice of cakes. The Eton mess was gorgeous. Extra tea was provided and it we didn't feel rushed.

My partner and I had our wedding reception here on the 28th and it was beautiful. The staff did an amazing job with the decorations and the food was gorgeous. I would definitely recommend this venue for an intimate wedding and we'll be back for afternoon tea on our first anniversary. Thank you again to all the staff, you made the day perfect.

Went for morning coffee and cake. Chocolate and Beetroot cake was divine. Lovely little area to sit near the deli with comfy chairs while looking at their delicious different types of food they sell. They also have a larger area with more tables in their other part of their building. Staff were very attentive and very polite. Well worth a visit.

My sister organised for me to have a baby shower at this wonderful venue. Following getting married here in 2017, it was just perfect! We enjoyed afternoon tea, and despite the current Covid restrictions, all the staff went above and beyond to make it all feel totally normal for us all. Was so lovely to be back again, and will still continue to recommend this place again and again.

We had our wedding reception at the Old Post House and it was perfect from start to finish. First of all, you have the entire venue (hotel rooms and all) to yourself all weekend, so it feels like your own place and really adds to the occasion. Secondly, having the food, drinks and DJ dine in-house makes it much more stress free (particularly if you have to change dates like we did), and the afternoon tea and buffet was delicious- plenty to choose from, including gluten free and veggie/vegan options- Cheralyn and the whole team were incredible, particularly for looking after my Nan- we couldn’t recommend it more and we’ll certainly be back for anniversaries!

A lovely independent business with a fantastic locally sourced array of food and drink. Great staff who are happy to help and can also make a great coffee!! A nice little place to go for a cake and coffee as well as picking up a few bits in the farm shop section. Their food is fresh and tasty.

I worked for this company and was unfairly dismissed after a cycling accident on my way to work there and was refused statutory sick pay for the little time I had of before firing me, I was told it was company policy that I needed a doctors note for ssp when it is infact law that you don’t need a doctors note for first week, I was told not to contact them and to write them by letter and have been ignored completely disgusted by how Faye and Chris handled this I wish the them nothing but hardship I really do after what they have done to me

Staff excellent. Starter of antipasti very good,main course of pan fried filet of hake,overcooked,dry,crushed potatoes dry and cold,veg cold.Staff very apologetic,offered to replace,but decided to settle for a free desert. I will go back for Sunday lunch and hope that this was a one off.

We visited the Old Post House for a wedding. It was beautifully laid out and the food was excellent. The staff were incredibly friendly and bent over backwards to ensure we had a great time. My only criticism would be the number of toilets available. Other than that - loved it!

First time I been there on my birthday as I wanted to try it out, I won't be going again, as the portion in the small side,closed @8.30, not my really cup of tea.

We enjoyed a two night stay at The Old Post House. We had a very pleasant and restful stay, we stayed in the "Cardiff" room and it was spacious and well equipped. Our son stayed in the "Brecon" room that had an adjoining out door space. The outdoor space was described as a courtyard, it's not really a cortyard but it was nice to have the shared outdoor space, although it would benefit from a bench or some seating. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the service was good. The price was reasonable and good value for money, we would definitely stay again.

Fabulous setting, beautiful food ambience a real jewel in the Crown. Worth a visit. Has a new deli a d if you can't see anything on the menu ask, and they'll cook it straight from deli,, really Worth a visit, it's like being on holidays. During lockdown Chris and Faye have also provided us with some beautiful meat, THE best lamb shoulder,, succulent beef rolled brisket fabulous quality and prices. Just waiting for our Christmas order #supportlocalbuisness

Happened upon The Old Post House by chance, after a fab visit to St Fagans museum, myself, partner, sister & brother in law was greeted by a lovely member of staff and shown to a table the roast dinners were exceptional 😋 and the staff were amazing very friendly definitely recommended a visit

Having adapted to stay in business during Covid, the OPH are now serving drinks and food in their lovely and peaceful outdoor garden. We've stopped for drinks a few times - great choice and great taste. Also ice cold and served in proper glasses - it all helps. We had fish and chips there on our last visit and it really was lovely. I'm a bit fussy with fish, i like it to be succulent on the inside but i hate a soggy or oily batter, but in fairness to the chef, it was perfect, with a non-oily, crispy batter - oh and home-made tartare sauce. I'm going to cut this review short as this is such a gem of a place, i don't really want to share it with anyone else in case I can't get a table next time!... So why don't you lot go next door to the Plymouth Arms 😂 (which in fairness, is also lovely)!

We held our choir's Christmas Party here last night and have only praise. The venue - the marquee - looked wonderful and the tables were set up beautifully. The food was excellent and the staff very helpful. Service was efficient as well. Would recommend to anyone. All the choir members we have spoken to were very complementary.

Extremely welcoming and friendly environment, my partner and I had a wonderful nights sleep. A great place to go for a weekend getaway. Nothing was too much to ask of the staff, the lady that welcomed us was very punctual and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and we didn't wait very long to eat. The surrounding area is gorgeous and very quiet during the evenings. The old post house was very reasonably priced for such great service and I would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area. We will certainly be returning as soon as possible.
