Fantastic pub newly built. Delicious food and very friendly staff. if you like a pub like cafe or restaurant then this is the perfect place

Usually the service is great, but last night we were put in the kids area (after waiting 15 minutes to be seated), without having kids. No one came to ask if we wanted food or drink, ended up going to the bar ourselves. Food then took 20-30 minutes to arrive at our table. Poor couple next to us got put on a circle table designed to feed 6. They were clearly upset but too young to be taken seriously. I don’t think we will be returning. Yes it’s a pub, but spoons offers a better service at half the price, we usually go to your restaurant for the higher quality of dining compared to spoons, but as of last night you guys were much worse.

Shocking treatment. Went in tonight for a meal and sat for 1 hour after ordering food before it was served. My burger was dropped on the floor by accident by the manageress and she came straight out with a ‘new’ burger. It was stone cold. When I complained about the wait and cold food I received zero apology from her and was told that it couldn’t be cold as it was a new burger straight from the grill. I was also told it was only half an hour wait time! So I was obviously wrong! :-/ shocking service and treatment from a ‘manager’ Edit to answer comment below: No waiting time was advised at point of order at all. It wasn’t the manager that took our order. Agree that meal was knocked off, but you didn’t even have the decency to verbally offer this when I complained. You were too busy disagreeing with the time taken and the fact it was cold! It would’ve been far better to just apologise and offer the meal to be knocked off. The adults at our table all agreed that you didn’t handle the situation well at all. I’m sat with a clearly cold burger in front of me and all you could say was ‘it couldn’t possibly be cold as it’s just come off the grill!’ Very odd customer service skills indeed.

A group of 23 family and friends met up at the Old Buttercross and the staff reserved an area for us. The staff were lovely and attentive. The pub has a pleasant atmosphere and is lovely and clean. The food was tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed my surf and turf. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Always a good atmosphere. Good family place to eat. Friendly staff and reasonably price.

Great good and service, good prices. Grandsons love it at Old Buttercross. They like the outside play area too and now that snooker table is open for kids with parents overseeing, grandsons very happy.

Really lovely experience. The food was tasty. Service was quick and everyone was very friendly.

We were a party of 14, from different parts of the UK and some from Spain having our family reunion. We were probably later placing our food orders than we should have been, mainly because we had a few children still waking up from long car journeys and we all wanted to chat. This said, the staff were very tolerant and obliging. They even managed to negotiate a plethora of toys scattered around the table(s) we were sat at. Even though we all placed orders at different times, the excellent kitchen and serving staff were able to get the food out to us all at the same time, even though we were not bothered about that. The food was excellent and piping hot.

Great service. Dining with 2 Coeliac sufferers, who were giving outstanding service from ensuring they understood the menu and allergen information on the website to ensuring their food was clearly marked and delivered separately. Most chain pubs have not given the attention to detail that the Old Buttercross did and I feel safe taking them there time and time again.

Lovely relaxed pub atmosphere, plenty to entertain kids and dogs allowed. Hannah was very friendly and Veggie Chilli was gorgeous. Two meals and two drinks was under £30 which you can’t go wrong for. Highly recommend!

Libby was a great server, friendly, polite and very helpful.

Stopped here on our way home from Rutland Water and had a great meal. Libby served us very well. The only disappointment was the loud video calls going on at a nearby table, by two separate sets of customers.

VERY Rude staff, argumentative, didn't put down my food in the till sitting here watching everyone eat because they they couldn't be bothered to tap it in. WILL NOT BE COMING HERE AGAIN

My Dad and I are new to the area and absolutely love this place, staff are very accommodating and always welcoming. We’ve visited a few times now and never had any issues, the place has a really nice vibe.

Visited on a busy Friday night with friends. Lovely friendly staff who were attentive, polite and accommodating, even for rather strict dietary requirements. Delicious food, prompt service and we’ll definitely be back!! 2 mega mix grills, 1 mix grill and a gammon steak, alongside drinks for 4 people all for less than £75 (we had a discount voucher for 30% off mains) - you can’t go wrong!! Thank you Buttercross team!!

Superb service on an extremely busy Friday night. Was served by the beautiful Hannah all evening who dealt with all our needs efficiently and friendly. Thank you for enjoyable meal with great service from Hannah :)

Overall, very nice experience. Most of the food and drink was excellent. Only a couple of issues: 1. The chicken with the large mixed grill was overcooked and dry and the diner didn't eat it 2. The Steak was medium rare. It was eaten and was very good but not blue/rare as he wanted it 3. Pedigree was as cloudy as river water, I drank it but was disappointing for a Marston's Pub Our server/order taker was very professional, very helpful and patient with our party of 10 with 3 children who wanted to stay in the outside play area as long as possible and the order took some sorting for her.

What a fantastic evening for the Houndogs on Saturday, it was wonderful to see so many people dancing and having fun. Absolutely loved it. Well done to all of the team that always do a cracking job.

Sat outside after visiting Rutland water was lovely garden seating, doggy friendly area Had Sunday lunch really enjoyed the food and the service was great.

Smaller portions and higher price now but a fantastic waiter, honestly he was spot on, so professional and friendly. A true asset to the old butttercross. Well done.

We felt the service was relatively slow (considering the venue was not observed as being particularly busy). We waited a considerable time to order drinks, then waited a long time until the food arrived. My daughters ordered the same pizza and not only did they arrive 5 mins apart (always the source of unhappiness) but also they looked completely different which was disappointing considering they were simple veggie pizza's. The manager provided 10% discount and an explanation, which was appreciated. However, we don't eat out often and I'm not sure we will return.

Our first visit here, as we have moved nearby, is our local! The chicken tikka masala, and beef madras were delicious, as was the apple crumble. House wine very tasty too. Prices are very good, service was excellent, sorry didnt get the young ladies name who served us. Will definitely be coming again. Thank you

We visited the old Buttercross on Tuesday 2nd July we were served by William, what a polite and helpful young man. I would highly recommend this pub for a bite to eat. Food was lovely, place was clean and good value for money

Nice food and nice table service shame about the snooty woman in the tills who was rude to our friend wen she went to pay she already anxious without being spoken down too peraphs like everyone else she was having a down day but no excuse towards rudeness towards paying customers that's the only thing that ruined it for us peraphs she's in the wrong that if that's her attitude towards paying customers but apart from that everything else was good not normally one to complain but on my friends behalf I had to share our not so pleasant experience

Had a lovely family meal last Saturday. Children and adults catered for on all menus. Food piping hot and well presented. Manager well organised and team worked hard to ensure we were all ok. Great beer garden and atmosphere in general. We were served by William who is new to the team - but this did not show at all. Professional and courteous x

This isn’t my first time going and it won’t be the last because everytime I’ve gone I’ve had friendly customer service from all staff especially Libby and Madison no complaints from the food either. Very good amount for the price aswell and a good pool table to play if you want.

Lovely service with Libby. She was attentive but not pushy. Informed us of what wasn’t available and running low before we looked at the menu. Really helpful.

Wasn't told that chips were unavailable and that fries would be a replacement. Desserts brought out before mains were cleared, waitress just stood there while we cleared our own plates. Service that night really wasn't up to scratch. Had better.

Fantastic service very attentive food is always lovely and service is brillant even though we are new to the area when we found this pub we new we would be back again and again.

Very relaxed atmosphere, charming waiter, good food, what's not to like? It would be better if disabled parking was a little more convenient. I have MS and can't walk very far. I found the distant very challenging.

All mains were over cooked. Chicken drier than sahara. Medium steak was well done. Zero flavour in sticky toffee pudding. Honestly shocked that's a standard for £70 of food. Visiting oakham first time in a year, standards have dropped. Will look elsewhere in the future.

Poor tasteless over cooked food £65 pay before you eat...i wonder why!!!£16 steak harder than a door mat over cooked chicken burger ... dry crinkled peas. Disgusting sticky toffee pudding didnt even eat it after two spoons full. Outside are over grown grass and to top it off screaming kids running about.

Seated very quickly, given time to look at menu. Drinks order taken immediately. Excellent choice to suit all wallets!

Service was prompt. Polite. And courteous. Food was outstanding and every member of my party left with an empty plate. Amended order to remove certain items from some meals with no qualms. And very reasonably priced for product.

Had a lovely meal with family, my grandson was very happy to play in the safe playground. My kebab was delightful as always, although fries weren't up to usual standard. But didn't spoil the meal. We all enjoyed ourselves and will be back again. Thankyou.

Ordered chicken salted kebab Tasted one piece which tasted raw sent back. The next min another women came to table ur not happy with the food not introducing herself I said no it tastes raw and the server took back . The women said it’s chicken thigh which is not on the menu or breast . They did say do u want to order something else and I said stupidly no . The new dish came back and it tasted the same and I dident eat it put me right off Went to pay bill they wouldent accept my blue light card . Nothing advertised this . Bill 82 for 3 people ‘ we did go regular but I think I might some where else disappointed this time felt our custom not valued

Family of 4, food was nice although vegetable chilli was watery. We’ve had this before and it was lovely, but based on this experience we wouldn’t have it again. Burgers were good, service was good. Although do feel a little overpriced.

Food and service as normal, so good. As a blue light card holder the staff refused to accept the card as they said they have moved to another system, as I have only a card this meant I missed out on my discount, I will go to Weatherspoon now as they are cheaper without a blue light card.

Food had so much oil on it I'm waiting to hear on the news that the Americans have decided to bomb the placd to steal it all

wait was nearly an hour long and it wasn’t even busy at all. didnt have much to order as everything was “unavailable”. Only about 2 people surging in the whole restaurant. Dirty drinks spilled everywhere

We did have to wait a while but it was Sunday lunchtime but food as always well presented and hot great value

i got a cheeseburger (ordered plain with no salad or sauce) but still came with the lettuce… my partner’s lasagne was literally just mush… but it did all taste nice :)

Place nearly empty. Wanted a coffee with non-dairy milk - not possible! Saw 30% off main meals on your website - not applicable to this branch. Prices escalating fast - comparable to a good local pub meal. Asked for vegan cheese on the burger - apparently this is only available on the pizzas and not on a burger - why? Left feeling we'd had little of value in our meal. Won't be visiting here again.

We visited the Buttercross early on Easter saturday, we had a request for a quieter area of the pub due to a child with anxiety, this was handled with no fuss, food and service were excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and visit

Really lovely place to eat, the menu had great variety and my Mac and cheese was delicious! Matt served us and he was extremely helpful in talking us through the menu and pointing out the children’s options for us. Great experience, we’ll be back!

Good food excellent prices and offers.

Had booked a table but when we arrived luckily there was a table as staff had not reserved a table. Two menu choices we requested were not available. We ask for fries to be swapped for chips but when meal came , meals had to be returned due to fries on plate. Most staff very pleasant apart from one who we first saw. Good car park. Tables were cleaned between use.

Staff are not motivated, not customer focused. Very empty restaurant, waited 30 minutes for food and then further 7 minutes for the last childs meal resulting in our food going cold. When the staff were asked to chase the food, no apology, didn’t say anything.. However we were too bothered till we waited another 25 minutes for 5 desserts and again no apology for the delay. No one cares

Great food but the staff make the experience a 100 out of 10. They are kind and never leave you waiting around for service! The buttercross has become a weekly essential for us.
