Oklava in Hackney

The meal was a truly exceptional experience from the moment our party of 6 arrived. The service was faultless, and our server was tirelessly patient and helpful, explaining dishes and offering advice to ensure our meal was spot on. Every well conceived dish was an adventure in flavours, with the Smoked Hispi and Lahmacun with Oklava Salad particular favourites. The restaurant was full but it made no difference to the speed of service from the open kitchen. It was refreshing to find such a professional team that made you forget there was ever such a thing as lockdown or staff shortages.

Really nice restaurant. Fantastic for veggies (me and my partner are veggie and we were spoiled for choice). Lovely service and brilliant atmosphere. Try and sit at the bar - watching the team prepare food in the open kitchen is brilliant, a well-oiled machine preparing plate after plate of delicious and beautiful food

To summarise… the food is fantastic, beautiful dishes and the service is great, BUT I found a really really long hair in the mushroom dish (I didn’t tell the waiter as I can cope with that) kitchen staff DON’T wear hairnet. Too overpriced from my point of view.. the chicken and rice pudding the best of the dinner. Also, the long hair waiter very professional.

We’ve been wanting to go here for ages, being a frequent user of the cookbooks. Not disappointed! Excellent service throughout, and food a consistent high quality . Loved the vegetables and peppers- but really couldn’t fault the quality and presentation of any of the dishes we ordered. Located in a real “ foodie” area, this place stacks up as a “ go to” if you get the chance.

For night prefix menu 52£/person. Go hungry because full menu is big. Everything is very tasty and beautifully designed. Service is perfect with a smile.

Exceeded expectations. Food was fantastic, nice range of Turkish wines and great service. Table by the window made us feel like we were somewhere else not London. Waitress Melek was amazing with explaining the dishes and paying attention to detail. Definitely will be back and definitely recommend.

Honestly guys, save your money and go to a kebab shop next on the high street. Even tho we have read very good reviews about Oklava our experience was not good at all. The service was okay. But we have, well I had to watch my partner eat her starter and main front of me while I was still waiting for my Mushroom Pide. It took more than 50 min for my main to come by than I have lost half of my appetite. The food was very slow portions like a tapas restaurant my partner had two startes and a main but she still felt hungry as the portions were tiny. I than waited for my food at the end I told the waiter if it’s gonna be any longer I just would like to go elsewhere to eat. They have apologies which I didn’t ended eating my main. If you hungry do not go there or make sure to order for double amount or you will be still hungry. We just paid and left to go elsewhere. Friendly staff but the food service were very poor. Unfortunately we didn’t have a good experience and still left hungry therefore I would not recommend Oklava for ting portions, price and waiting time was terrible.

A great, alternative place to eat. We had a wide array of foods, the hellim, kebab, mixed vegetables and also the short ribs. All the food was cooked right in front of us and to a great standard, it was so tasty! The atmosphere is very good too, not too busy and cramped but had a good vibe to it. I would recommend this to all and think it is a great authentic experience

Food was incredible, service too. Very nice vibe. We had bread, hallim, courgettes flowers as starter. Lahmacun and kebab as main. Kunefe for dessert. Carafe of Turkish Rose and Turkish tea. Everything was excellent. Highly recommended.

Wow! We dined here on a Saturday evening, and we had a fantastic experience. We made a booking to sit at the counter, which was a perfect spot—you could interact with the chefs and watch them do their work. Loved the atmosphere of this little restaurant off a side street in Shoreditch. Just a few tables, well-decorated, casual but elevated. Service from every member of staff was pleasant and welcoming. Fun wine list featuring wines from Turkey and surrounding regions; it was a nice way to try some things that you don’t find elsewhere. The cocktail with Turkish sparkling wine and blood orange was most refreshing. And the FOOD! They have an a la carte and tasting menu option; we opted to share items from the a la carte menu, guided by a server who was super-knowledgeable about everything on offer and made great recommendations. It was one of those meals where every single bite impressed. The tomato rice stuffed couchette leaves were delicious; the baked pita dishes spectacular; the hellim cheese wonderful. Nothing disappointed; everything bursted with flavor. Superb meal. Cannot wait to return!

Cercavamo un ristorante turco e abbiamo prenotato per festeggiare a Londra i il compleanno di mio marito insieme ai nostri figli. Eravamo in otto e ci hanno obbligato a scegliere il menù fisso a 52 sterline ciascuno, anche se mia figlia aveva chiesto più volte se era possibile ordinare separatamente, secondo i gusti di ciascuno, cosa che avevamo potuto fare in tutti gli altri ristoranti frequentati. Ma dato che volevamo provare una cosa speciale, abbiamo confermato. Che errore! Il ristorante è angusto, lo spazio assegnato ridicolo, la confusione totale. I piatti deludenti: una bruschetta con le alici che in Italia non ti servono così piccola neanche insieme all'aperitivo, l'abbiamo dovuta dividere in due, e così il resto delle portate, minuscole, da dividere... Oltre alla bruschetta, un pezzettino di formaggio, un pezzettino di cavolfiore, un'insalata, tre pesciolini minuscoli e insapori (ma cos'erano???) da dividere per otto persone. Uno non sarebbe bastato per una persona. Il dolce lo stesso: sono arrivati 4 piattini di dessert da dividere. Ma se il dessert lo avessi ordinato io sola? avrei dovuto dividerlo col mio vicino di tavola???? Accoglienza fredda, confusione in sala, ambiente piccolo, conto salatissimo Ma come si fa a recensire una roba del genere? Va bene che Londra è cara ma abbiamo mangiato meglio nelle altre sere spendendo la metà e con un servizio migliore. Peccato per il compleanno. Outstanding! A great spin on classic cuisine. We are big fans of Turkish food and enjoyed this delightful and playful expansion on what we already love. It’s a great treat and perfect for a couples night out. The service and attention from the staff was fantastic. Would visit again.

What can I say apart from go and find this hidden gem. The food and service was outstanding. From the bread with medjool date butter to chilli roast cauliflower or flat bread with cooked ground lamb and salad. All fab. Great atmosphere

This a buzzing restaurant, ideal for a fun night out, rather than an intimate conversation. Friendly, efficient, helpful, smiling staff really look after their clients. The food is very good. The Pide and the Halloumi excellent. Warning: resist eating too much of the warm tasty sesami loaf with dates butter that you are offered, it is so good you may want to fill your tummy with thus leaving no room for the rest!

Great food, nice service, all genuine, all tasty, this is the kind of restaurant you go out from with a smile on your face because it is different yet very good. The Halloumi cheese with honey ranks "best ever" in the very competitive (for me) grilled halloumi category. It was grilled like a halloumi should, but inside it was creamy, and that, is what makes it best.

If you want an explosion of taste and a diff take on Turkish food visit here. I’ve read the very small number of ‘poor’ reviews and they are utter rubbish. The ONLY thing I’d agree with is that space is limited, maybe 1/2 tables too many in the venue, but then again what do you expect in this location, especially when restaurant owners are hit with so many stupid charges these days as well as sky high rents.

The service was good on arrival and we were promptly seated. The waitress was very helpful in explaining the menu and the recommended choices. The ambiance was fantastic and I also think the service was good.

6 of us came here for a birthday night and we were not disappointed. We chose to have the selection menu ( £36 ) so we could try a bit of everything and it was fantastic. From the bread with Date Butter, the halloumi, perfect Hake course and the excellent wine we were not disappointed. Will definitely come back.

Delicious Cyprus- Turkish cuisine in her own way. Everything was very delicious , my favorite is Kunefe. The best Kunefe I have ever eaten Congratulations Chef Selin.

If you want to have a decent service just don’t go there. Service is terrible, I just think I wasted my money and time going there. Food is ok, nothing special. The waitress are super slow. They’ve just ruined my evening!

Spent a lovely early evening in this restaurant served by an absolutely natural and helpful waitress.

La comida fue absolutamente deliciosa, cada plato que se puso delante de nosotros trajo una explosión de sabores. Las combinaciones de sabor eran muy inventivas, frescas y bien equilibradas. Nuestros favoritos en particular fueron los pequeños fros crostinis, lahmacun y el kebab seftali.

Voy a mantener esto simple - si consideras por favor solo reserva. La comida es absolutamente hermosa. La berenjena especiada, el pan, la mantequilla de dátiles, los buñuelos de queso feta, el cordero, incluso las "papas fritas" eran un plato en sí y rebosante de sabor. Escogimos 6 platos entre dos de nosotros y no pudimos criticar ni uno solo a pesar de que ni siquiera probamos los platos especiales de su casa La cola simulada de té de manzana fue la mejor bebida que he tenido en mucho tiempo. El restaurante en sí es íntimo, elegante y bien atendido. Si tuviera que hacer una pequeña llamada, sería que el personal fuera un poco tranquilo / formal, pero apreciaría que es una elección personal cómo las personas prefieren interactuar con el personal. Dicho servicio todavía era agradable, rápido y servicial. Valor también razonable. Sin duda volveré solo para probar los desiertos para los que no teníamos espacio.

I had lunch here recently, and I honestly didn't get this restaurant at all. It's small, crowded, super loud, and the food came about 20 minutes before we had to leave. I also consider it overpriced, with strange combinations -- my food was also way too spicy (and I like hot food). I would recommend going somewhere else.

We were a party of 8 foe Saturday lunch, and predominantly vegetarian. The restaurant put together a 7-course tasting menu, with only one course being fish (a beautiful Roasted Hake dish with Aegean Greens).

They take reservations here and it was already high up my list. Like most success stories of unique chefs celebrating their signature cuisine, chef Selin Kiazim brings out the best in her menu at Oklava. From the spiced Baharat bread with medjool date butter to the incredible grilled Hellim (halloumi) and from chargrilled cauliflower florets with pistachios to a delicious authentic Turkish lahmacun - her dishes tick every box on taste, presentation and value for money. The desserts were winners too- both the künefe (the best I’ve had in London) and rice pudding with rhubarb sorbet and sumac were dishes I’d remember for life!

The Oklava menu was great value for money. All the dishes tasted lovely and the service was excellent. We especially loved the pide. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and we would definitely visit again.

We were drawn to Oklava after seeing the owner on the Great British Menu. The restaurant decor is modern and slick, and the service friendly and helpful. The food is out of this world, each and every dish is cooked to perfection. The balance of flavour and taste of each plate was divine. The team were so friendly and we couldn’t thank them enough for the amazing culinary experience they had produced for us. We will be back to eat at Oklava again soon. Fuimos a almorzar con la familia. Me encantó el buñuelo de calabacín, las salchichas eran geniales, como pollo especial. Las almendras eran sabrosas, el crostini de queso de cabra era ligero y sabroso, la coliflor de chile era buena pero creo que está sobrevalorada. No era un gran fan de la torta de malta pero estaba en la minoría. También tenía cócteles que me encantaron, la ginebra de remolacha era interesante, realmente te hizo pensar. El BO Fizz era encantador.

Have been to Oklava twice, it is a very modern Mediterranean restaurant with a modern touch, very tasty food, can be a bit less oily but still delicious food and great ambiance:

Stanbul:) teníamos lahmacun y puedo decir que fue el mejor que comí en Londres, un poco caro, pero te dan lo que pagas ¿Bahía imán? ¿Ld? y halloumi estaba bien y el raki turco se servía de manera tradicional con vasos de té turco.

My family and I had the most incredible dinner here last night! We were warmly greeted upon arrival and had a prime table where we could watch the talented chefs prepare our meal whilst also private enough to have great conversation. We were a party of 5 and had a chance to order almost every dish and drink on the menu. From the starters to flatbreads to mains, every dish was distinct in rich flavors and cooked to perfection. We were oohing and ahhing after sampling each bite - truly unique and decadent combinations in every dish! When they arrive at the table some are too beautiful in presentation to want to even eat, and though we managed to get through the food menu we sadly had no room for dessert this time. To top everything off, the service was great as well as the ambience. Deciding it was the best meal I’d had in London, I went over to thank the chef who introduced himself as Laurence. This is really a gem of a spot in London - but the highlight is this chef’s talent.

I can’t fault the food it was delicious and served as a meze. Slightly overpriced in my opinion. But it was a nice meal, service. Drinks are pricy but nice choice!

Brilliant Anatolian design gem with some delicious signature innovations such as the date and butter spread. Cosy casual room, big grill lines one side of the room, always reinventing classics, mostly successfully!

Came here not really knowing what to expect and was blown away by the food. Really exciting modern cooking with interesting flavour profiles I hadn't experienced before. The two stand out dishes were the grilled cabbage with spiced egg (see photo), which sounds weird but was absolutely delicious, and a spiced trout dish, which had an amazing array of textures and a great subtle spicing that reminded me slightly of tikka. The trout dish had a smear of tapanade that was slightly too salty for the dish and was unnecessary but didn't detract from the overall brilliance of the cookery. I'd say it's one of the best restaurants I've eaten in over the last few months

After just arriving in London the day after a loooooong plane ride we stumbled apon Oklava and made a booking. We liked the idea of trying a Turkish version of Mediterranean food so it was a double plus. Tired or not, the meal at Oklava woke us up it was so good!

Wow! The food is delicious and served with care and precision. We had lots of delicious plates but particular highlights were the grilled helim, courgette fritters, spiced bread and lamb kofta. Service was friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

Visited on a Tuesday night, quite busy but space for me on my own. Staff very helpful and gave me advice on the menu. I went for the marinated olives, Lahmacun, stuffed Bulger wheat, lamb and chilli kofte.

These 3 items are my key criteria and were fully met at Oklava. We asked for a smaller table to allow for an easier conversation and were instantly shown to a different one. During dinner service was very attentive and friendly too. They explained the menu and concept very well. Food was really good with vegetarian options. Great atmosphere, not too noisy.

I would very much recommend making the trip to come here. The food is authentic and interesting without being pretentious. It is a real find and I wish the owners every success. For me, the key with Turkish food is not just the spicing but the use of high quality fruit, vegetables and nuts, part of the wonder of Anatolian food. Very much on display here. We did not try the wine list as we came at lunch.

I’ve been meaning to go to Oklava for ages, and I finally visited it on 9th March. To my delight we were given two counter top seats, so we could see Selin and her team in action. Those guys produced dish after dish of delicious, interesting, exciting food, with incredible attention to details and making it look so easy!

We had a delicious lunch there this week, the halloumi was absolutely divine, probably the best I've ever tasted actually, and the kebab was succulent and delicious. It was very reasonably priced we thought too.

honestly blown away. the food was fresh and zingy and had such a wonderful array of flavors. the staff were all very helpful and made us feel very at home and helped navigate the menu in an informative and nonpatronising way. being able to see the chefs in the room with us was a great way to feel in amongst everything and gave the restaurant a good vibe and energy. would I recommend this to a friend..? We visited Oklava for the first time last night. I just want to say that the food was outstanding! This standard of Turkish Cyprioy food was definately missing. We loved the modern twist and everything dish we ate was so amazing! Well done to Selin. Me and my husband are foodies and not easily impressed and i am turkish cypriot but she has created an exceptional menu and with great kitchen staff who managed fine without Selin there. We went for the Oklava set menu which is £35 pp which pretty much covers all the menu. Lots of delivious plates of food just keep coming. We loved every single dish. Its a small cosy restaurant, relaxed with music on, you’d be lucky to get a table without booking. Its a 5 min walk from Liverpool st and plently parking nearby. If you order turkish, one pot is enough for 2 or 3 people!

Lovely service and nice venue however sadly the 'oclava menu' was very sweet, bread heavy and generally not up to the standard that I would have expected from the reviews.

They separated the dishes so that we could both eat the same thing I.e, the butter was in a side dish. My husband was raving about the grilled haloumi and all of the dishes were of the same standard.
