Officina 00 in Islington

Fantastic food and excellent service. We arrived late and were seated at the bar and I really enjoyed watching the chef's at work.

Some of the food is exceptional (aubergine croquette for a starter); others a bit tasteless (my companion's gnocchi dish); others just odd (the 100 layer lasagne is not lasagne as we know it Jim - a wodge of layered pasta with a slightly odd sauce poured over it. The pasta was, of cousre, perfectly cooked.

We arrived at about 9.30p.m. on Saturday night and the restaurant was busy. Fortunately, they were able to seat us at the bar where we could watch the chef's in action. The service from Nada was great and the food was excellent. We tried a few of the starters and really enjoyed the Croquettes and Raviolo. All of us liked our pasta dishes and coming from Yorkshire expected a hefty price tag and were pleasantly surprised as a meal of that standard would cost at least 25% more in Harrogate. Thank you.

We liked the vibe here and enjoyed the spicy croquettes and two tasty bowls of pasta. The carbonara was luxurious and delicious. The rabbit cappelletti was tasty but a tad too al dente. We will definitely give it another go.

The pasta dishes were good but the rest was nothing special. The desserts were disappointing, tiramisu didn’t taste of coffee or liquor and seemed like they forgot to soak the biscuits completely. We popped in at a quieter time and the service was so slow, can’t imagine how they handle busy hours.

We came for a Friday late lunch, and booked a table at 14:45, when we arrived there was only one other table and we were informed that the kitchen actually closed at 3:00pm, I felt bad having known this I would’ve booked earlier! I was told that you’re informed when you book, but I’ve checked both the website and my booking confirmation and there was no mention, you can even book tables at 3:00pm so that was a bit of a surprise, however, it didn’t have any bearing on our meal! We were told that it’s better to share a few plates which I’m glad we were told because there was a few dishes that caught my eye! We started with the bread and a fried raviolo each, they were both so good! I’d say scrap the bread and get more of the raviolo’s next time as they were unreal, cheesy & peppery! For our mains we had the 100 layers lasagne, spaghetti carbonara and the curly pappardelle. The 100 layers lasagne was a bit bland and more of a novelty, I wouldn’t recommend it. The carbonara was very good, that perfect golden yellow colour, however I thought it was quite sweet and not peppery enough. Finally the curly pappardelle was so so so good, the crispy meatballs, the ragu running through the pasta, it was 10/10, get this dish! We opted not to have desserts but did have some pornstar Bellini’s which were lovely and all pornstar martinis should come with a sugar rim! Would definitely love to come back, we sat on the kitchen pass table and I imagine this would be great to watch when the restaurant is in full motion! Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely excellent waiter called Murilo. He was fantastic! Really brightened our day, was the right amount of attentive, and at the end gave us little bags of fresh pasta to take away as it was international pasta day! However, I've been coming here for 2 years and I think the food is not as good as it used to be. The portions are smaller, there's no fresh burrata now on the short rib ragu and the prices have gone up. I know this is happening everywhere, but I had one of the best meals of my life here 2 years ago and now I wouldn't seek it out in the same way. The staff can't be beaten though!

This is our go to place for pasta in London. Freshly made in the restaurant, the food is simple but very very good. No pretences, just good service, good atmosphere, good drinks and great food.

Freshly made pasta is the key draw for this local restaurant. Very popular so book in advance. Kitchen is accommodating to make dishes vegetarian friendly.

Service was nice and friendly and we really liked the food. The pasta was al dente and the sauces were quite tasty! I was positively surprised. It might not be the best pasta you'll ever have but overall it was really good.

The staff and atmosphere are great and we really loved the starters and the wine. I wish we’d ordered another round of the starters instead. The main pasta dishes were all very poor. As a group of 3 semi-Italians we have relatively high standards, but the pasta was inconsistently cooked, the flavours just didn’t work and after being so impressed by the starters, we were all very disappointed when we tried each others mains. None of them were good. One was too dry, the other too wet and the other was very vinegary and the flavours didn’t work well together. Very insta worthy but mostly style over substance. An Italian restaurant needs to get their pasta right, especially when it’s their USP.

The food was just rubbish! The pasta didn’t taste fresh and was just hard (not al dente) and tasteless. I could make better pasta with my eyes closed. They really push you to order, the waiter came round at least 8 times before we ordered and it wasn’t like people were waiting for tables, there was space in the restaurant. They were also awful at topping up the wine and we had to get another bottle because they couldn’t pour the same amount in four glasses! The starters were super average bordering on bad, even the burratta wasn’t good. We ordered 4 different pastas and out of the 4 only the truffle one was decent. Portions also weren’t great, they were very stingy with the butter for the sourdough and it was massively overpriced! We paid £15.50 for one ravioli which cost more than some of the main pasta dishes and was hard! Really not worth the visit, overhyped, overpriced and rubbish food!

Unfortunately the experience was not as good as when we came in June 2021. The chef couldn’t even provide us with plain butter for the bread! What kitchen doesn’t have plain butter only Parmesan butter! The carbonara was not good, and far from what we expected from an Italian restaurant. I’m no chef, but my carbonara is far better! Even watching the chefs cook at the counter, it looked like they were not enjoying it one bit. A big disappointment for what was a great restaurant when we first came back in 2021. Sadly, we won’t be visiting again.
