Oceans take away in Cheshire West and Chester

I bought fish and chips for the youth group from here on Good Friday - 20 fish & some chips. Service was great and the food was fantastic. Highly recommended. (I did order the day before!)

First time of ordering here, and unfortunately won’t be again. The food was greasy, I ordered a special chow mein I couldn’t eat it as it was spicy! Never in my days have I had a ‘spicy’ chow mein the oil looks like it was due to be changed months ago, the prawn crackers were awful- left a horrible taste in my mouth. Disappointed. The lady serving was helpful, place was clean. But not for me.

All the food coverage in oil horrible has to be the worst chip shop in the Uk

I’ve just ordered off the kids menu for my 2 daughters fish, chips and small sausage. Greasy as hell please avoid. I wrote a review last year and nothing has changed should be shut down !!!! I wonder what they have to say for themselves because they never reply to my reviews

Had a takeaway from here last night and the food was dreadful. Ordered the salt and pepper box, probably the worst salt and pepper meal I've ever tried. The donner meat in it was clearly frozen and microwaved and the whole thing appeared to have just been smothered in chilli flakes. My partners meal was no better and actually made her sick. All for just short of £30 I feel like I've been well and truly ripped off. Never again!!

I recently visited Ocean takeaway Chester to try their famous fish and chips, and I must say it was an outstanding experience! The fish tasted incredibly fresh and was cooked to perfection. The portion size was generous and left me feeling satisfied. Compared to other places I've tried, they surpassed my expectations in terms of taste and quality. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try, as it truly offers the best fish and chips in town.

Dirty back shop, if you like fried potatoes that have been cooked over and frozen to the point of frezzer burn then enjoy, 6 customers left while I was in there taking the vile food back, even open on the counter infront of customers she said the food (if you call it) was fresh....the place needs closing down....if I could give a minus definitely would.....stay away...if not buy lots of toiletries 👍

Excellent Chinese takeaway and fish and chips. If we are in this neighbourhood again, will definitely come back. Tasty special fried rice and crispy fish and nice newly cut potatoes with vinegar 👍 prices are very friendly

Usually love oceans but went there just before closing and asked for salt and pepper chips 🤮 it's like they just put a full tub of chilli flakes on was no onions no peppers just chilli! Blew my head of couldn't even eat them 😢 absolutely love this chippy aswell, but don't recommend going before closing 😒 other than that staff are amazing so friendly and best chippy going, just during closing should have the same appreciation for there food for when they open till closing 🤔 other than the chips being dumped with a tub of chilli flakes instead of salt onions and peppers can not fault them 🫶

Fish was excellent, brilliant crispy batter and chips were nice. The space was clean and staff was nice! Definitely order again!

I recently tried the Singapore fried rice at Oceans and I have to say it was absolutely delicious! The rice was cooked to perfection, with each grain separate and fluffy. The seasoning was just right - not too overpowering but full of flavor. The dish was also generously portioned, making it great value for money. I would highly recommend this fried rice to anyone looking for a satisfying and tasty meal. Overall, a fantastic experience.

If you are looking for traditional fish & chips, this is not the place to go. The place seemed to be very clean and the staff were friendly enough, BUT......I would not recommend fish & chips from this place. We had been on a day trip to Chester Zoo and fancied fish & chips when we got out. The batter is way too thick, which meant it held A LOT of oil, and was over cooked, which meant the batter was very hard. One fork full was actually just a large piece of over cooked batter, no fish at all. The chips are more akin to a Chinese take away style, not traditional chips as one would expect, although they tasted good enough they just didn't meet expectations, we ended up throwing half of it away. Definitely would not buy again. I've seen some reviews that say the Chinese menu is good, I'd definitely give that a go if I'm in the area again, but as for fish & chips, a big no from us I'm afraid, which is a shame as, like we said, the place was sparkling clean and the lady who served us was prompt and polite.

Very friendly, efficient and reasonably priced takeaway. I like their Thai dishes and chips. I probably wouldn't recommend them for fish and chips as there are better options nearby in Upton and Hoole, although it isn't bad, I think they are better at Chinese and other quisine.

Worst fish and chips I have ever eaten. Really greasy, chips awful . Should have realised as there was no one in there, whilst another takeaway had a queue outside. Cash only, which was another problem.

Just awful enough said. Fish and chips the worst Chester. they claim they get the supplier for the fish n chips is the same as the western grove chippy really pull the other one !

Terrible food inauthentic greasy and expensive. I ordered the spicy special chow mien chips and curry sauce. I got a couple of slabs of warmed up dry chicken and pork egg noodles and lots of chillies. It tasted of nothing. The chips were warm ups and covered in grease! £13.50! Worst takeaway I’ve ever had. Avoid this place

Had a chinease meal from here and the beef tasted fishy was horrible, the salt and pepper chips were nice and staff were pleasant.

Fish 5 star, fish cake 5 star, sausage 4 star and chips 4 star.

Excellent place to get a meal, never had a bad meal yet ,the salt and pepper box is very tasty lots of different meat just the right amount of spice easily shareable , always ready when you arrive after telephone order

What a bad place food gets dropped on floor and still served they mess orders up when too busy and has a bad customer attitude definetly don't recommend if you do go I suggest only the chefs cooked food as it's all freshly made

Don't believe fake reviews, I'd give 0 stars if possible... do not even bother wasting your time or money visiting as you'll be left with nothing but regret, and a bad taste in your mouth. 'Chinese' dishes were very bland and unauthentic, unlike any I've tasted before- in particular the sweet and sour tasted strange and inedible. Also as mentioned by others, the lady that served me was rude and there seemed to be a very bad atmosphere amongst staff.. Hopefully this review will help others to pick a nicer takeaway !

Have been coming here regularly for nearly 6 years! The great reviews on here are not surprising. The food is consistently top notch and Helen is always lovely and friendly. My favourite is the chilli shredded beef and salt and pepper king prawns! Best Chinese in Chester in my opinion

Disappointing. The chow mein was dry and bland, the black bean sauce lacked spice, the salt & pepper chips were made with dried chili flakes rather than fresh chili. Also no tofu option for vegetarians.

Got a takeaway from here today, the food is extremely greasy, the burger buns were burnt the egg on the special burger were undercooked to the point when bitten into clear egg white oozed out. It was the first time we had gotten food from here and never again. I thought it would be nice with the reviews but was seriously disappointed.

Food very nice from here, the Chinese food always tastes nice, the chippy food also tastes nice. Quick service and it looks very clean.

Take away very clean 4*hygiene rating, staff nicely presented and friendly, looked on trip advisor to find a thai takeaway found oceans takeaway ordered chicken red thai curry and boiled rice , the red thai curry was not anything like a thai curry it consisted of chicken (that had been deep fried as a whole chicken breast and cut up)bean sprouts, carrots, French beans, mushrooms, peppers, chili, and other vegetable's the food had very little real tase but had clusters of dried chili not mixed in the food was disappointing and really un edible it appeared to be a concoction called red thai curry that tasted nothing like red thai curry or anything else, bolied rice was good

No red Thai curry paste or coconut milk to be found in this dish. What we had was a glorified very oily Chinese stir fry with chili in it which wasn't mixed in properly as we found lumps of it in the beansprouts. Extremely disappointing overall. They really shouldn't advertise this as red Thai curry as its certainly not in fact having lived in Thailand i can say hand on heart its not Thai food of any description. Feeling deceived and angry.

Fabulous Chinese and English food. Really tasty with very friendly staff.

On the basis of the TA recommendation last night we went to this takeaway. Portions good and well priced but the unrecognisable Cantonese and Sweetsour sauces rendered the food inedible I am afraid. My son and I had to bin most of the food after a few mouthfuls. Cheap but bad in summary

I don't live in Chester just work down there now and again so I got there for my tea the food is fresh and nice and the staff are so polite I would recommend it to everyone .

One of the Worst meals I have ever had. Satay and singapore fried rice, had a kick but was tasteless, very bland. Prawn crackers were the tastiest thing. Only went because the Kam Xin was closed.......wont go again.

I love this chip shop so much since the first day I went to It! The food is at the highest quality with fresh ingredients and a large variety of things to try. Decided to try out Oceans takeaway after being recommended by several friends. The food did not disapoint, the fish was freshly made to order and of a generous proportion. My boyfriend also thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese food, particularly the shredded chilli beef. I will definately visit again.

The best chips for miles and the chinese food is delicious, the food is always fresh and the staff are lovely too. Another well deserved 5 star rating

We were looking for a great Chinese and found this little gem. I was Really impressed with the spring rolls and spicy vermicelli, will definitely be back!

The fish and chips plus the Chinese curry is excellent. Tried some of the other Chinese dishes and wasn't over impressed.

For any Chinese or those who claims to be experts in Chinese food, the menu looks like the most typical English style Chinese takeaway with a chip shop section and a kebab section. However, despite all the bad associations with the typical English style Chinese menu, the food is surprisingly good. The varieties of sauces and styles don't sound like something appetising to someone who likes real Chinese food, however, what awaits the customers is a special take by the chef. I guarantee you that Singapore Vermicelli is not what a proper Cantonese or Malaysian Chinese restaurant would have, but it is also not the lame excuse that Wok and Go cooks up and pretends to be; the result here is simply tasty, as long as you are open minded to giving it a chance and don't stick to your pre-existing expectations. Yet to try many others from their menu, but if it is anything like the ones we tried so far, it is definitely a Chinese takeaway that I would recommend to both Westerners and Asians alike.

I am always disappointed with takeaway food and have given up looking for somewhere nice to go. We decided to try oceans for a quick tea one night and I'm glad we did, best takeaway for miles, amazing Chinese food loads of flavour and all freshly made. Fantastic food and the staff are lovely too. Highly recommended 😊

As a foodie who grew up in China, believe me when I say you will not be disappointed with the food, it is on par with 99% of Chinese restaurants out there that charge double, even triple the price! Great staff with excellent service always with a smile and the food is authentically Chinese and second to none. The meals cost no more £6 (boiled rice comes FREE, fried rice cost 60p), massive portions and the food is delicious (even tasted great reheated the next morning!). My personal favourite is the shredded beef, the king prawn balls starter and also the combo platter. The best thing is they even have traditional english offerings as well such as Fish & Chips, chicken, sausages etc. My partner ordered the fish & chips w/ peas and she was very satisfied. It was noticeably less greasy and the cod fresher than other chippys experienced in the past. All in all, brilliant takeaway. They've managed the unthinkable of offering both chinese as well as english chip shop food which both tasted great! We will definitely be visiting again and I can say with some confidence this is the best takeaway in Chester. The perfect example of a 21st century takeaway done well!
