The meal arrived fast and tasted decent. Still, I was a bit dubious about the calibre of the cuisine. You ordered downstairs, and there wasn't much service to your table; I suppose that's simply the restaurant's manner. By the way… CASH Only.

The food is really nice and for a fair price. The place is more for a quick meal. You can see people do not stay a long time and they are always moving tables and running around.

Food comes out very quick ! But the staff isn’t really great the guy told me that they don’t have enough space to accommodate I said it’s all good and thn later I saw a lady she got the seat before me who came late and at the end asked me to pay one pound for the takeaway box lol 🤣 wouldn’t recommend anyone

Food always comes out quick, even at its busier times! Other than that, great selection of food, and food is 98% perfect. Though the prices have went up a little... which is expected considering the cost of living these days.

good noodles with unique tasting beef which was pretty good, staff was friendly enough, my friend said shes scared of the "guy", not sure why but the food is good for the price compared to other noodle bars, and service is fast.

disgusting ramen. £14.5 for prawn tempura ramen. You get 4 prawns only. The ramen and soup tastes disgusting…….the soup probably made of some sort of powder….. The portions of noodle could feed a toddler probably….. normally I can only eat small portions food, but this time the portion is just way too small. I’ll never come back again…. The food came out 1mins after I ordered :) proper fast food :)

The food tasted good and came very quickly. I was a little suspicious as to the quality of the food, though. There wasn't much service to your table, and you ordered downstairs, but I think that's just the restaurant style.

I was scolded by the boss in this restaurant: You disgrace the Chinese people! This is the first time I have encountered the arrogant and unreasonable attitude of a merchant! Should we all consider ourselves unlucky when encountering a restaurant like this? Because when the meal I ordered arrived, it was only half the size of the photo on the menu, which I thought was seriously inconsistent. The boss said that the photo was just for reference. I said that in my country, the photos on your menu should be close to the reality. You are deceiving customers. When ordering food after looking at the menu, since the store provides photos, they must at least not be too different from the actual meals. Otherwise, why would they include photos?

The food was okay, it didn't feel extremely fresh or outstanding. I liked that the mains had a complementary miso soup. My friend asked for tap water and was told he has to buy a drink instead. We came around 6pm and we were told the place closes at 7pm. At 6.40pm we were already asked to leave and informed that the place was closed, the working hours are not honoured.

Excellent Japanese food at acceptable prices.

It was sort of okay for a veg. sushi experience. Ambience is good however the service is average, didn't sound friendly

I ordered Deep Fried Octupus Balls and got what looked liked reheated leftovers, tasted like it too. I don't think they even cared to scrape off the left over lettuce from the previous dish.

Rice was alright but the fish for my sushi was dry and tasteless, bit rubbery. Ordered a California role and it had a crab stick, expected something more fresh given the £4ish cost. Expected a better quality overall given the price. The miso soup was pretty good though.

Food is always top-notch and freshly prepared. Staff are lovely and make helpful suggestions for pairings and things to try. I personally love soft shell crab so their Temaki is my go-to with a soul warming, gut balancing miso. Today, I also added a plate of salmon and avocado handrolls rolled in Nori and Roe. Really lovely little lunch in the peace and quiet of their upstairs sitting area. I really enjoy solo dining, and it is quite common here to be surrounded by other solo dinners.

Staff rude and i think they use some old meat now unlike before when they are newly open...its not the same as before...new staff cant communicate.

Been here about 100 times over the years and it's always great! Food good, fast service and good atmosphere. Location great too as it's right in the city centre

"Mixed Experience at Obento Japanese Express" My wife and kids have been loyal customers of Obento , drawn in by their amazing food. However, their recent visit left them very disappointed due to very poor customer service. Sadly, this experience has cost them a families custom along side many recommendations . The lovely food couldn't compensate for the letdown in service on this occasion.

If you love Japanese food, try Obento. Won’t let you down. Love their ramen and bento boxes.

I come to this shop often and normally its a great experience and great food to but this day I came and ordered food like I normally would and went to sit down they then brought me something that didn't look anything like my order and the guy that was giving me my food started to get aggressive with me almost shouting at me and then I agreed to take the food to get him to leave (I never touched the food) then I went down afterwords and asked for my money back because I was served something that I didn't order the guy that served me gave me my money back being very aggressive with the till from anger towards me won't be going back after that

Nothing special. Tried their teriyaki chicken ramen as a take away. Chicken was alright, didn't taste any teriyaki, ramen soup was average/below average. Got a side of seaweed and it was meh. Not worth the £15 I spent at all.

This shop told me that they only accept cash. Pointed me to where the cash machine is. I made my withdrawal only to comeback and find out that they accepted card payments as well. I saw another customer used a card to pay. Why lie to your customers?

Very competitive price in the middle of Belfast and the amount for meals was considerable.

I got takeaway salmon and avocado Sushi rolls, which might not be fresh. I got very uncomfortable and vomiting at night and I haven’t eaten any other suspicious food. Questioning the food quality especially the seafood.

Food was lovely, nice space to eat outside on good days. Great service from staff. Wooden forks not great tho, proper forks would be great.

It's a good place to eat if you like Japanese food

Warning! Do not EAT the Honey chili chicken bento. I ate this yesterday and got FOOD POISONED. I THREW UP 4 times to get rid of all of the food I ate. I had got food poisoning here twice I believe but this has really made me SURE that their food they serve to people is NOT SAFE. On 12 JUNE 2023 I had ordered the Honey chili chicken bento. I had ordered this a few times before I finally got food poisoning. This shame of a food-chain takeaway place is a thief of money and cleanliness towards what you consume from Obento. I am disgusted! Do not try to delete this Google review. I have it saved, I have not broken any policy, and I will make sure that people will know about my experience!

I really love japanese food. Really glad to find obento in belfast. We really enjoyed the food and the staff are friendly.

The quality of food and contents are substandard, swapped with cheap sushis, claiming chef’s specials. The attitude of the owner is very disgusting, out of proportion. Definitely not going back to this place again. Won’t recommend to anyone.

I've given this place many chances, getting a different menu item every visit and every single time it has disappointed me. On my last visit I chose the teriyaki chicken ramen. I was greeted with the most bland and visually unappealing ramen I have ever seen. And again, I don't know why they do this, but the teriyaki chicken was served on a separate plate rather than being in the ramen. This also happened when I ordered the deep fried pork ramen on a separate occasion. The bento box leaves you unsatisfied, the stir fry noodles are far too soggy and the sushi is okay. Just okay. Also all the staff come off as rude. It's not just a single staff member. All of them just seem to have no passion for what they do and treat customers like a burden. Honestly if you want a good ramen, there are many other places within walking distance that'll blow you away. Not worth the prices they charge either.

Wonderful place I often go to for lunch, I usually buy individual pieces of sushi but decided to go for the Sushi Bento. I avoid shrimp when I eat sushi because of bad experiences at other places in the past and asked for them to replace it, only for it to be a mystery piece of sushi for me, (they didn't let me chose or let me know what it was). It would be lovely for them to ask what you could chose between and what would be included in the Bento on the menu when you order! Because of that, the fish being chosen as a replacement wasn't to my taste and I wasn't able to enjoy the entirety of the dinner. Other than that it's a wonderful place, with good quality food for a reasonable price and I will still go there for a lovely lunch!

It was my first time trying out this restaurant. I got the chilli honey chicken it was very delicious the chilli souce tasted so well. Everything was well seasoned and full of flavour 10/10 recommend, it was very peaceful and calm am obsess with the miso soup.

The food is meh. Dont try the ramen. It taste worse than instant japan ramen. The pork marination is overly sweet and chunky. The soup taste weird with odds combination of seaweed and pork . Lol.

We ate here a couple of times during the Easter weekend. Dine in upstairs or sit outside. So any wheelchair users would unfortunately be outside. The service is fine no issues, and the wait is about 15mins for your freshly made food, if it's not too busy. The food is good though: the bento box is very filling. Pricing is average, since "japanese" food is usually expensive anyway. Of note to those who didn't know - the majority of staff are mandarin Chinese, not japanese. I know because I'm familiar with both languages.

Based on the high reviews I was expecting a lot more from the quality of the food. I had the sashimi bento and the fish was not very fresh. The staff were very lovely and attentive but the quality of the food does not live up to the reviews.

I was dissapointed with the sushi bento. The presentation was lacking, you can't call 4 soy beans and two pieces of lettuce a side salad. The sushi tasted as if it was prepared the night before. The atmosphere was cozy though

I saw this whilst passing by and had never had a japanese style bento before, so I came back and randomly picked the tofu option off the menu. Was pleasantly surprised! The tofu was in a flavoursome sauce with spring onions and was battered, and there was a small salad with it that was mustardy and tart! It came with a lukewarm miso soup(happy abt this as its really hot right now) and rice, which for me I did feel was slightly too much. There were also a spring roll and dumpling that were amazing also! For 10.50 this is such good value for all of this food!

Absolutely love the food here - both take away and to sit in. I always get sushi which is really great - good portions and super fresh. They also do great ramen and bento boxes which my partner says are really nice.

We really enjoying food every time we come back. It is super quick and delicious for reasonable prices. Never actually had opportunity to take picture of it as we are always so excited when food arrives that we straight away start to eat. You can also buy sushi take away if you have no time for stopping. They are taking cash only but if you have no cash with you atm is just 15 meters from shop. Love it here ♥ thank you Obento ♥

Food was awful. Ramen had no taste just a pale coloured soup with gummy brisket. Would not recommend.

We always love to come here for nice and quick japanese food. Whether it's warm ramen soup or sushi of any kind our food was always prepared to high standards as expected when you go for japanese food. Would recommend this place anyone who wants to try something different. And don't forget to take some bento box home with you after your visit :) that's what we do too. One thing which is disappointing is that they don't do enough of beef ramen. If you want it, you have to make sure you are there early in the day. It probably sells out first. No wonder why!

Obento is just a place to dine if you want a SLIGHT taste of Japanese cuisine. The price is okay but the taste is not up to asian taste standards. The ramen is really not good regardless of what type you order. I think they use the same soup stock for any (beef, sea food or chicken) Obento is fine and reputable. In a nutshell, Obento is a Japanese restaurant managed by Chinese. ( If you get the idea) I do hope they can improve

This used to be our favourite place to get lunch when in the city centre. No more! The price has gone up and the quality down.

Not a big sushi fan but it was fantastic from here. Only complaint was that the interior decor was abit worn inc seats

The food is quite delicious, the girl waiters are very nice. However, that one man waiter ruined my appreciation to here by being very rude and rushed me to pay. Very very disappointed and will not let him serve me when I come again.

Have always loved their dishes from the very 1st time I've been there. My all time favorites are the bento box dishes. Other dishes are great tasting as well. Great value for taste and money. Customer service is also great.

Unfortunately, it Was one of the best restaurants in Belfast until we found a tiny spider 🕷 in my seafood ramen 🍜. We have notified the staff and they tried to convince us it was something came out of the mussels.

Got the chicken ramin have to say the ramin looks unappealing and has 0 flavor water has more taste. took half a bottle of soy sauce to Evan be able to take a bite 100% worst ramin I've had in my life. Won't be back and would not recommend

Always a great option for some great Japanese food, especially if you are on a budget. Portions are always more than enough for me and taste is always incredible. Very nice staff and always very accommodating, even for someone who doesn't want vegetables on anything. While there are two tables outside, the rest of the seating area is upstairs which is beautiful decorated and very cosy if not a little small if it's busy. Overall Obento is one of my favourite places to eat, high recommendations to the noodle soup in winter and the pork katsu don anytime.

The worst sushi I have ever had. Including raw prawn, unchewable & hard fish. Clearly I dumped it all in the bin. Avoid this place I have high doubts on their hygiene & food quality/freshness.

Small place but lovely food, always enjoy visiting it as a treat. Sit-in is upstairs and well maintained but be mindful there is no wheelchair access but there is take-out available.

Take it from me, an Asian, from Asia, who was in Belfast on holiday and wanted a taste of home. This isn't good Asian food. If you want something quick and not even that cheap then eat at Obento. But if you like and respect Asian cuisine then eat somewhere else.

Delicious food. My accountant and I held a meeting there. We went for the Ubento box meal chicken teriyaki which comes with Miso soup. We ate using chopsticks, which both of us are comfortable with. Always a pleasure to eat here! Small and compact, but cosy.
