Oakwood Inn in Tendring

Just had our first experience of this place and we throughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere! We are now looking forward to going back again! Thanks ladies!

What a little gem, such a great find, food great, service very good, atmosphere very good as well, we were delighted with everything, will be going back soon, thank you very much ladies you made us fill very welcome.

Always a pleasure to dine at the Oakwood. This time Sunday lunch for three of us. My wife had Turkey with all the trimmings, our daughter had the Pork with crackling that was cooked to perfection. I went for the Lamb. All dinners came with plenty of roast potatoes and vegetables and proper gravy. Service was very good, pleasant waiting staff and the food delicious. Looking forward to our next visit which will probably be very soon for a midweek lunch of the special ls board.

After 2 years this is the first pub where they don‘t allow us with a small dog to sit inside on a rainy Thursday September to have dinner. (And the place was pretty empty..)

We visit this pub regularly with elderly relatives. On each occasion we are met by friendly helpful staff who respect the age of their clientele. No loud music blaring away. The food is fantastic, beautifully hot and extremely tasty. The menu is varied and good value. Service at the bar and tables is 10/10, from us. Thank you all at the Oakwood, can’t wait for our next visit.

Excellent menu of Home made food and still one of the best cooked meals in Clacton Their Steak & Kidney pie or Chicken Curry Is the best.

Good, well cooked, and nicely presented food served by friendly and attentive staff. Clientele made up mostly of retirees.

We decided to vist the oakwood inn on Saturday night at 6pm as we haven't been there since it has reopened .we was waiting in the queue for 30 minutes before they seated us they took our order of drinks and asked if we knew what food to order at 6.30pm 2 drinks later and know being 7.45pm we are still waiting waiting for our food i asked the waitress how long is it going to be she said they are just about to start cooking it .the couple that was behind me in the queue was sitting there eating there dinner she said its done by ticket order can't see how this is the case if im still waiting for my food didn't apologies for how long it was taking she just wanted the money for the drinks last time we will be going there so can't say what the food is like but the system they have in place clearly doesn't work.

The Oakwood is my parents local pub. It's an absolute gem. Friendly staff and an atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. If in the area, this is the pub to visit. I had a fillet steak that was grilled to perfection. Four of us ate, and all four plates were completely cleared by the end of the meal. Fantastic food.

Plenty of parking, lovely big garden with plenty of seating. The pub is welcoming and was cool on a very hot day. Staff super friendly and polite. I ordered a lamb chop with new potatoes and vegetables, wow! Well presented and lots of meat on the bone. The taste took me back to when I was a child and loved my mums cooking. A real homemade taste which I haven’t had in years. I would highly recommend and will be back👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The mill I have was the steak pie with mashed potato and vegetables the it was just like homemade which I believe it was

Nice restaurant, staff are nice, food was nice, food presentation was very nice good attention to detail, meal portion sizes were plentiful, only drawback is the restaurant does not take bookings, so arriving before opening time is advisable

Had better food in a transport cafe and didn't have to wait a hour and 12 minutes for it, after complaining, the unsmiling female manager was not friendly at all and just tried to justify it all, absolutely a total waste of money and definitely our worst dining out experience of our lives and we are both in our 70s

Great place comforting food very nice lovely people.

The food was very good, quite large portions which some of us couldn’t finish but they were happy to wrap up the leftovers for us to take home. The only odd thing is not being able to book a table, very strange to have to queue up outside for them to open at 6pm and hope you get seated.

Really enjoyed coming here. Food was superb 👌 my parents have been coming here regularly so I followed their trend and can't fault there find.

This restaurant was recommended to us by friends that live locally so each time we come on holiday we visit this pub and can not fault the food but tonight the customer service was not good ww ordered the same main meal and when they came out it wasn't what we ordered the manager? came over because we were just looking at our food but didn't want to know she said if we wanted it changed it would take a long time my wife asked for a sauce that would have come with the meal and she said we would have to pay even though the meal we got was the same price then when we paid it was the same girl that took our order and when i told her what had happened there was no response it's as if they are so busy they don't care if we go back again

Visited at lunchtime as we were in the area. We have visited before and had a great experience, Many years ago. Nice welcome and The waitress showed us to a table, even though we hadn’t booked. Drinks and food were bought over pretty quickly. Glad we got there when we did as it got very busy! I ordered vegetable risotto which came with a beautifully dressed salad and huge chunks of garlic bread. Husband had gammon, egg and chips and a beer each. Both meals were huge and delicious 😋 We chatted to the owner after settling the bill, who was very nice and chatty. We will definitely return, hoping this will soon become our local as looking to move to the area this year. Thank you to all the staff for a great service and delicious lunch. We didn’t have room for a dinner that evening, we were still very full!

Lovely pub, very friendly staff, food was fab, the tastiest roast I've had in ages, will return when I'm visiting family ,well done on such a busy father's day, for fitting us in.

Don't go to Hungry Horse's 'Roaring Donkey'...Come here instead....The food is way better. 😙👌

Service slow, not disabled friendly, also we were over charged our friends undercharged. Why we were told to sit in the most disabled unfriendly seats when the easiest seats were left incase a party cones in when the server sat another party of four there, leaving us struggling to get out to the toilets. Not very happy

Had a lovely meal with my Aunt. We both chose the grilled skate served with garlic butter and capers which was on the specials board. The portion was very generous and was cooked well. It was served with broccoli, carrots, new potatoes, mashed swede and a piece of asparagus. Service was friendly and good.

Good food and friendly staff, price's very reasonable, look forward to returning.

Had an evening meal. Nice atmosphere fairly busy. The food was OK , i hsd the meat lasagne but didn't stick in the mind. Service was friendly and pleasant although not timely. Overall a nice night out.

I was so sad when it caught fire, I've been visiting the Oakwood for many years. It's the best pub in the area, with great food, great service and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. I visited there a couple of weeks ago with my mum and everything was perfect. I wish them well for the future, keep up the great work.

Food is always excellent in there and service is very good we always go early to make sure we get a table

We used to come here on occasions before the .... (fire), and this was our first visit back since the refurbishment, no change.... as good as always.

Prices far to high went to Toby carvery better quality food half the price

Friday lunchtime so busy . Shambolic service ,staff didn't seem to know who was serving who. Table behind us got wrong order , steak pie instead of skate n chips. Annoying cos I tried to order the pie off the specials but just missed out. Waited over 45mins and when 2 tables were served having been seated 10 mins later than us we gave up and walked out. Shame that it seemed to be so badly organised but nice building.

Love it here great food ,nice atmosphere glad they are back open,hopefully they have renewed their bar stools very old & uncomfortable, & a new coffee machine because coffee is not good !!!!

Absolutely delicious meal.. the empty plates speak for themselves !! We had the steak and kidney pudding which was divine. Even my 98 year old mother in law cleared her plate!!!! Thank you to all the friendly staff. Definitely recommend a visit here

Brilliant Gastro Pub, I grew up in this pub in my teens, very happy memories 100% Top Pub

Called in last week and had a prawn salad with my granddaughter and the friendliest and great service was second to none,I also saw on the news the pub had beer struck by lightning and suffered a fire,I pray nobody was hurt and I’ll be able to drive from Harlow in the future for another wonderful meal.Good luck to you all.🤞

Today we went to the Oakwood restaurant holland on sea for a birthday celebration, was very disappointed with service and the food not as good as usual. I called to complain to the manager who apparently is the owner, was told I know who you are as you complained from the time you came in and when I said about the service I was told you have to expect this with young staff who are being trained, I said I wouldn’t be back and she said good.

Met up with friends for Sunday lunch & chose to eat here as their is no need to book. Arrived for early lunch & met with a warm welcome & shown to a table. After ordering drinks & food , the service was very quick and efficient. Considering the cost of the meal it represented very good value and the quality was surprisingly good.

Friendly welcome by lovely staff. Had good home cooked food, enjoyed it so much we went back the next evening.

First time to this town, looked like a good place to have lunch - only to find kids not allowed after going in - a simple board outside would have helped. Rude staff - shouted at my kid for being playful. Only then I realised why they don't allow kids as they have no idea how to behave. Food was even worse , bland and no taste..would never recommend to anyone

First time coming here. Service was very fast, no lengthy waiting times. The food came out in big portions and was delicious. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy a good meal, I'd recommend here! They don't allow children under 14 in which is ideal for a quieter setting.

Great service. A little old pub. That’s serves home cooked food! The chicken curry is my favourite, comes with rice and chips. We often come to this place with my in laws, and husband’s parents. Food is hot and well presented. I had the mango, lime and coconut cheesecake for dessert and it was delicious.

Just had a lovely dinner at the Oakwood as usual. We have been eating here for nearly 20 years and the food is always delicious. My husband had the Ribeye Steak which was cooked exactly how he likes it. I had the Poached Salmon which was superb with great vegetables and a delicious Leek Sauce.

A very nice pub. Very friendly staff. Good beer. Enjoy the time there. Looking forward to have a meal there next time. Thanks for a good time

Very good service. Food good but price increases too much for a pub. Hence not been there lately. P.s got charged £2.20 for a drink tap water (£2.00) dash of blackcurrant (20p)

I visited the Oakwood on 07th March 2023 .. Beautiful pub and great service .. We had lamb chops mashed potatoes and vegetable.. the chops were so tender that the meat fell off the bone .. best pub lunch I have had in ages .. what makes this pub is the atmosphere and lovely staff.. not to forget a great chef ..

Had a fabulous lunch today x turned up x literally welcomed , with a smile from Tracy , shown to a table drinks order taken, fabulous service x ordered the roast lamb have to say the best roast I’ve had in a long time just like my nannas x even had mashed swede !!! 4 lots of veg , potatoes crisp and fluffy , lamb was lovely and tender . Even asked if we wanted extra gravy ! Followed by jam roll poly n custard (me) not had this since I was a kid ! Loved it. Mister had cherry pie n ice cream all home made both loved it x great service girls are amazing x plates cleared away promptly x had the best Sunday xxx thank you Lauren and team x you are amazing x

This place is different from other pubs / restaurants. Good homemade food with a dish of the day theme. I was impressed with the quality and standards 👌

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday evening dinner, staff very attentive, the vegetables where cooked to perfection, the perfect atmosphere for a quiet dinner for 2.

We are local to the oakwood and have eaten there for many years and have never been disappointed before until tonight. There was 6 of us, 5 of us were happy with our meal, but my dad who was treating us had a steak which was tough and not right, so much so he gagged so much he was sick. He politely spoke to the staff, the chef argued it was fresh and nothing wrong with it, nobody would do what he did if there wasn't anything wrong with it. To top it he was made to pay for it, very bad customer service as far as I'm concerned.

We were welcomed as soon as we went into the Oakwood & shown to a free table. We were quickly served our drinks. I ordered from the specials board....wild mushroom & 4 cheese pasta bake served with an enormous salad & 3 pieces of garlic bread. My husband chose the vegetable lasagne again served with a huge salad and chips. We didnt have to wait long before they arrived... We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We have eaten here many times & have never been disappointed. See you again soon

Very limited menu and very expensive

We decided a return to the Oakwood Inn always a favourite with us and is some distance away so we go for lunch and have a walk on the Prom. We hadn't been since Covid and were pleased to find it hadn't changed. It serves traditional English Food and Puddings which are always excellent with friendly staff. I recommend it highly.

I went with my work colleagues for our Christmas meal the food and the service was second to none all tables were occupied which in itself just tells you it’s a great place to go would highly recommend

Staff friendly and obliging and clean tables with a fire burning in the hearth,food menus standard with a changing specials board. All food fresh so expect a small wait for your order Pub drink on tap and a fair variety. Thank you To all the staff . Fantastic Moroccan lamb

Just popped into the oakwood as we normally like it here but tonight we were left standing waiting for ages to be seated and in fact not one of the staff had the decency just to say be with you in a mo or anything that would have been nice but nothing so we walked out and won't be revisiting. Shame.

Had roast beef . Tender and succulent . Vegetables fresh and delicious . Offered more gravy . Ample horse radish sauce . My friend had the fish , which was also really good . Going again today . Says it all !

Had a lovely meal, reasonably priced, friendly staff, didn’t have to wait for long . BUT! Only two staff on ,who worked there socks off all night, but had to serve drinks, handle money, handle glasses, greet customers for the restaurant, hand out menus, take orders & serve food. Never once were they observed washing their hands. ! Wife contracted Norovirus two days later, slowly getting better, But it’s not all about profit, as a business you have a duty of care.! Will not visit the Oakwood again.!

Went today for first time with 3 other ladies and I had chicken salad, for the price, the chicken was like processed chicken, the other 3 ladies meals wasn't good, they all complained, not good quality for the price, wouldn't go back

Was our first time visiting The Oakwood. Very nice food, but a little pricier than I had expected for a Pub. Yes we will be going back in the future. Only moan was, after we all finished our dinners, we sat waiting for 15 mins for someone to ask us what we wanted for dessert. It never happened, so we left after the dinner.

Nice pub steak OK but deep fried mushrooms!!!! Yuk. Crumble and custard was lovely tho and my drink was nice so I'd go for a drink but not to eat. Waitress was v pleasant
