We were staying next door at the Crown Inn to attend a wedding in the area however commencement of their lunch service was leaving us tight for time so we popped in here instead in the knowledge we’d get a decent snack. The stairs may be a challenge for the less able however it’s worth the effort as the produce served is very good. We both ordered quiche which was served with salad, coleslaw, crisps and a Balsamic dressing (£6.50). I’m not usually too keen on Balsamic however I used some from the small pot provided separately and it turned out to be fine. The quiche itself was very good. We had coffee (£3) and tea (£2.80) which were very good too but since we were a bit pushed for time we had tray bakes as takeaway - Millionaire Shortbread for my wife and a slice of Aero Mint for myself. Both priced at £3.50 they went down well with a coffee the following day when we were back home! Service on this occasion by the two young females serving was pleasant and efficient. Overall cost for lunch was a reasonable £25.80.

Late afternoon cuppa and cake. Nice choice of cake, can recommend gluten free carrot and empire biscuits. Pleasant helpful staff. Clean and bright, tastefully furnished . Looks like a nice lunch menu, reasonably priced. Will definately be back

I am currently sitting in this small but beautiful laid out coffe shop with the sun shining thru they windows ,having just finished of the most freshly made egg mayonnaise sandwich which unexpectedly came with a fresh crisp salad, balsamic vinegar on the side and crisps it was delightful. However expecting just a plain sandwich I also ordered one of their scones (Cherry 🍒) they have a choice of plain,Cheese 🧀 and Fruit as well but be warned the scones are huge -see picture. To say this was a fabulous find is an understatement which was borne out by 3 tables were occupied by people enjoying scones, coffee ☕. So when in Peebles I would urge you to seek this gem 💎 out you will not be dissapointed

It's upstairs above a gift shop. Clean and bright, friendly staff, lovely carrot cake and lemon drizzle with coffees. Also pieces of tablet with the coffees. It was a delight and will definitely go back.

This is a fairly new addition to the places where you can get a light bite and/or coffee and cake in Peebles High Street. We were originally told of its existence and recommended to give it a try by a member of staff in one of the local shops when we mentioned we were planning to have lunch in town. I subsequently made a solo visit for lunch more recently. It’s based upstairs from a small gift shop - Herringbone - next door to the Crown Hotel. The stairs are quite steep and may be a challenge to some people with mobility issues. Having said that I’ve been surprised to see several elderly people with walking sticks manage - the lure of tea and cake must be strong! The furnishings are contemporary and the place has a bright modern appearance. When available, the young staff have a pleasant manner. The menu is fairly simple - soup, sandwiches, baked potatoes, coffee/tea and cake but sometimes that is all that is required. The sandwiches are prepared to order by the waiting staff so if it’s quite busy, as it tends to be at lunchtime, my experience is that the service has been slow. On both visits I’ve waited for a while for an order to be taken in the first place and on both occasions there was no follow-up to see if anything else was required. In the circumstances I’ve given up on the idea of “having our cake and eating it” on the premises. On the second visit I went to the counter and admired the cakes for a while in an attempt to get the attention of staff but they were too busy making up orders and I eventually gave up on getting to taste them. On our first visit we eventually resorted to having traybakes to takeaway when we were paying the bill. Perhaps the solution is to order that second cup of coffee and cake at the outset or for a bell to be provided? As for the food, we had nice fresh brown bread with the sandwiches and our fillings were good quality - Coronation Chicken and Ham & Cheese (£6.95 each). These were accompanied with some crisps and salad, the latter having a balsamic dressing provided separately to add some flavour. Balsamic is a favourite for my wife, but not for me so my salad was a bit dry. We liked the coffee (£3.15 large/£2.90 standard) served with a piece of tablet and the take-away traybakes were good too (£3.50 & £3.95 respectively). Overall pleasant enough for a bite to eat or coffee & cake if you don't mind lingering.

Passing through Peebles with a friend and we came across this coffee shop. It was busy when we arrived and several tables were placing their orders at the same time as us so we expected a long wait. But service was friendly and efficient and it was good to see our food being made to order. We had sandwiches which were very tasty, lovely bread and plenty of filling. Plus crisps and a side salad. My coffee was perfect too.

Very hot today in Peebles, so after a walk to Kingsmeadows and back we were looking for a much needed EA and scone. We had been in here quite a few times over the years, but not since it became Number Fifty Six. We had tea and coffee and a fruit scone with butter each. Just hit the spot, and the air conditioning was very welcome, nice and cool. Another plus was being able to spread the butter. It wasn't solid as in other places we will not mention. Thank you Carly, we will be back again soon.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

Just had a delicious lunch here with the best bowl of soup I think I've ever had. I can't recommend this place highly enough... Friendly welcome, quirky surroundings and all home made food, the bread included. Worth a visit to the town for the food alone! Thanks for having us... If we're in the area again, we'll be back!!!

My husband and I stopped by here for lunch. The train ticket we had purchased had taken us to Tweedbank, but we quickly reboarded after realizing there were many more options to be had in Galashiels. Dave's was one of the places that popped up after a Google query. Despite having just made it past the lunch rush, the person at the counter was very cordial. We told he that we were celebrating our first anniversary/latermoon and gave us a baked treat and a recommendation for a nearby park whereby to enjoy it. I'd highly recommend Dave's if you are looking for a tasty yet affordable lunch spot.
