Now called PLATFORM ONE- Fifteas Vintage Tearoom. Same type of seating indoor and outdoor but a brighter, fresher look with clearer signage. Cornedbeef pie was the order of the day. Nice light pastry and tasty filling. We took some jaffa orange cake back home and it was lovely and moist and delicious. Great pot of tea and a Cappuccino and much better service. A vast improvement on our last visit.

This is a pleasant little cafe and we were looking forward to visiting. They have a limited range of snacks and there didn't appear to be as much available as there was the last time we were there. The staff appeared to be more interested in their incessant chatter, than doing any work in the cafe. Two tables were covered in tea stains, which could and should have been easily cleaned, if people were doing there jobs properly. One surly young lady, looked like she would rather have been anywhere but where she was. The other one was more pleasant, as was the older lady. We got the distinct impression that the cafe was a separate entity to the railway, though I am sure that most people would presume that they are one and the same. It is therefore important that the cafe is in tip top form, so as not to detract from the railway itself. Maybe this was a one off - let's hope so. The food we had was fine, though our toasties appeared without the advertised coleslaw. We weren't particularly bothered so didn't make a fuss.

We fancied a couple of leisurely hours on the train but decided to have lunch in the cafe first. We sat inside though there is outdoor seating, protected by the canopy of the station roof. The selection of food on offer is not the largest but it is more than adequate and the quality is superb. I chose the mince pie and chips. The large slice of pie was full of mince and the pastry was beautifully light. The chips were nicely done and it was served with a leaf garnish and coleslaw. My wife opted for the quiche with the same accompaniments as me. Both meals were delicious and very reasonably priced. We noticed that there were some huge scones and bought some to take home. They were equally nice. Everything there is home baked, apart from the cakes, which are bought in and also look great. I can't say as I blame the lady for that, as she must spend a good deal of her spare time in the kitchen. If you are in the area or visiting the railway, give No. 40 Cafe a try. You'll not be disappointed with the food and the staff are very friendly too.

Had some lovely cheese scones at number 40, accompanied by great cup of coffee. Customer service was very friendly and efficient, Located in the Weardale preserved railway station it is a great place to sit and soak up the sunshine. We will return for lunch, going by what I saw of the lunches serviced and smells I am sure it won’t disappoint. Prices very reasonable too.

After our two hour local train trip No 40 seemed just right for a brunch/snack....it is part of the station building and nicely nostalgic. Food offerings are limited but what there is does the trick. Lovely chips, sausage rolls and pasties, cakes and scones and stuff. Prices are very good. The only criticism is the horrible plastic wrapping over the tables - simple wax or plastic tablecloths would do the same job to protect the wood but look a lot better than clear plastic with tears and holes in it.

Definitely a place to go back to - the scone was perfectly balanced, not too salty nor too sweet, much nicer than the Waitrose scone we had yesterday. Friendly staff too.

Stanhope was heaving on Sunday so we had a lovely walk down to the station and were pleasantly impressed. Lovely staff. Great simple homemade cakes and light meals. We sat on the platform under the old glass canopy in the sun and enjoyed the atmosphere. Not many trains run and no steam yet but you can imagine the heyday and these volunteers deserve support and it was very civilised. Nice walk along river back so it's a good circular walk. Excellent tuna cheese melt as well. What's not to love.

We had a nice cup of coffee and a good slice of cake sitting in the sun on the station platform. The service was friendly, the cake good value, and the venue different and characterful.

Delightful...charming setting and railway carriage tearoom with outstanding cake and homemade cornflake tart with local ice cream. Delicious, with the best pastry case this side of Mary Berry. Terrific value for money.

After enjoying a lovely journey on the Weardale railway with our 93year old aunt we were ready for refreshments. The staff at number 40 were warm and welcoming. Choice of menu was good for lunch time snacks and meals. All lovely homemade food. My husband enjoyed homemade soup and a roll with a portion of chips. Aunts tucked into her corn beef pie which she said was excellent. I enjoyed a very tasty quiche and chips. Lovely hot drinks. Just enough time to enjoy this before returning on the next train. Thank you to the staff for making us so welcome.

I took my mother and her friend for her 90th Birthday. The lady in the Café looked after us handsomely as did her young assistant. Now this Café serves lovely tea and coffee. The pies and cakes on offer are made in house and are a real treat of home cooking. The food is also outstanding good value. I pass through Stanhope often and will be back for the Mince pie next time.

Lovely bakers and coffee shop, Lattes were really good and the gluten free carrot cake was amazing. When you have coeliac you can’t always find somewhere that provides gluten free especially in small villages but I would definitely recommend Peggotty’s! We’ll be back.
