North Star Restaurant in East Riding of Yorkshire

Fantastic stay at the North Star. Lovely bedrooms, very high standard of cleanliness in all areas. Good tea/coffee making facilities. The evening meal was very high quality with lots of choice. The staff in all areas couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast was excellent with a varied menu, something for everyone from pancakes to Fisherman’s platter. Offered fresh toast and fresh tea/coffee throughout. The position of the hotel and views make it perfect for walking and visiting the local area, bus stop outside. Had a good nights sleep in peace and quiet. Lots of free parking. Will definitely recommend for accommodation and meals and we will look forward to our next stay.

Another enjoyable visit eating at the North Star with our group of 6 who all thoroughly enjoyed their evening dinner. The excellent meals and service by all the staff is to be commended. On this occasion we were staying in a cottage in nearby Buckton and during our stay we visited the North Star on 2 evenings during our weeks stay. We look forward to visiting again in 2025. We visited the North Star on the last day of our holiday in Flamborough. The food was excellent. We sent our complements to the chef. We all chose differently from the menu and all meals were excellent. Complements also to the waiting staff. Nothing was too much trouble.

Thinking back, my first visit to this super hotel/restaurant was as a child. That means I've been visiting here for over 50 years! The bar area was much smaller back in the day, but it has been expanded several times to what you see today. The service and quality have been maintained despite the increase in the number of tables. There is something of an olde worlde charm with the decor, but in a positive rather than negative way. It carries an aire of tradition, with home comfort. The staff are very polite, friendly, willing to help and nothing is too much trouble. Good old fashioned service in nutshell. My partner and I went for Sunday lunch and chose from the set menu (£23.95 for 3 courses) For starters we had a traditional prawn cocktail, and a very nice venison and black pudding sausage, both with all the trimmings. For main, it was poached haddock stuffed with salmon and a delicious steak pie. All served up with mashed potatoes and chips, peas carrots and cabbage, plus extra gravy for the pie. To finish off, a generous portion of apple and strawberry crumble with custard, and an indulgent meringue nest. The steak pie has been a favourite of mine for many years, and the consistency of quality cannot be faulted. You will not leave here hungry! We would have no reservations in recommending the North Star to anyone. Please keep up the good work, we will be back. And a big thank you to all the staff for making this a wonderful visit.

Wonderful food and service. We visited on rather a miserable rainy sunday afternoon. However, the sun was shining in the North Star Inn where we were warmly welcomed by all staff and received a fabulous home cooked and hot Sunday roast. The Lamb was cooked to perfection and the vegetables, served separately tasted delicious. Good luck getting away without being tempted by the amazing dessert trolley! Thanks to everyone who made our afternoon feel special.

Disappointing!! This restaurant was recommended to us so we had high hopes, unfortunately they weren’t met. The food was okay, pretty average, but the let down was the amount of flies in the restaurant. We spent most of our meal waving our arms around as we were constantly having flies land on the food and buzzing round our heads. We did mention this twice to two different members of staff and the reply was “we can’t do anything about that” and “well it’s harvesting season”. The staff were aware of the problem and maybe need to look at shutting the windows and investing in some fans and fly deterrents etc. We didn’t enjoy the meal because of this and couldn’t wait to get out of there. The sweet trolly looked lovely but again we declined a dessert because flies were crawling on the cakes and some weren’t totally covered. As we left we noticed the kitchen windows were open, so god knows how many flies were landing on food being prepared in the kitchens. We spent a considerable amount of money on the meal and it totally spoilt our evening. We won’t be back !!!

Just visited here for our evening meal. I can not recommend them enough. All staff were very attentive and polite. Food was absolutely delicious!!! I have to give a special thank you to Phil who came up with a dessert I could actually eat. With being lactose intolerant, there was nothing on the dessert trolley I could eat, but he was very accommodating and I was over the moon with the dessert I received, meringue, vegan ice cream with strawberries.... yum!!! Huge thank you again. We will definitely visit again.

This place more like faulty towers the old dithering waitresses seemed to be in cuckoo land. My curry was like a tiny bowl full of soup with no taste whatsoever, the chips that I didn't order were frozen chips the meat pie wasn't anything special, best thing about this place is that they don't allow dogs.

From entering the restaurant we had a friendly greeting and all the staff were friendly and the meal was delicious and services was excellent it makes a difference when you are looked after when you’re eating out we will be back thank you for a delicious lunch

This is our third visit to the North Star when visiting Flamborough and it didn't disapoint! Excellent Service, friendly and attention to detail, nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent, good choice and all cooked to perfection and of course the sweet trolley, well stocked with yummy deserts. The trolley transforms you back to the 80s when good service and good selection of desserts were normal!

Just returned from a lovely three night stay. The room as always , was large and spacious and spotlessly clean. Also a lovely bathroom. The meals as always were excellently cooked. The wine at dinner was also excellent. Served in the lovely dining room. So much choice at dinner and breakfast. Both Charlotte at dinner and Victoria at breakfast. This is the second time this year we’ve been here. On both occasions the quality of food and service has been exceptional. We also stayed overnight and had an excellent breakfast the next morning.

We have just had a wonderful 3 course meal. I'm gluten and dairy intolerant and I had my choice of anything on the menu, and it was extensive. Nothing was too much trouble, no fuss made!! Even had vegan ice cream!!! Plus the environment was very comfortable and the staff very friendly but professional!!!

Absolutely brilliant place, made ultra special by the wonderful staff there.Fabulous location for North Landings beach, and beautiful walks along the coast, North, or over to Brid. Breakfast and evening dinner were both awesome and especially considering the freak eating requirements of us both. I'm a coeliac and my wife has a recently discovered cow's milk intolerance and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate this pair of weirdos. Fabbo room 1, really big and great views out to sea from one side and of the lighthouse out the other. Just a wonderful place and staff and fabbo location. Don't park directly in front of the kitchen windows, unless you're a believe that sea bird guano is good for your paint, as this is the standing point for the local herring gull who loves to stand on car roofs and bonnets staring at the kitchen, and does not feel it necessary to move somewhere else to void his/her bowels.

Went for the Sunday lunch 3 course menu, good choices available and all the courses where extremely good. Food was served piping hot and we were supplied more veg etc if it was required. My 4 dining guests and myself could not fault the entire meal and will have no problem in recommending your establishment to friends and family for the place to eat.

We have visited before for dinner and been well satisfied but expected it to be very quiet on a windy Thursday in November. Nevertheless the restaurant was almost full, they were just able to squeeze two of us in for a light lunch. Not surprised that is is so popular. We simply had sandwiches but these generously filled hot turkey sandwiches were served with stuffing, sausage and bacon roll, cranberry sauce, coleslaw and salad garnish. Very tasty and amazingly good value. The staff were so friendly and helpful it made the whole experience perfect.

Took my elderly mother, and my wife, for lunch. We were greeted warmly by friendly staff, seated and served drinks. The menu selection was very good and they cater for older people with a "smaller portion" selection (still a good size). Food came very quickly, was very hot and beautifully cooked. Prices comparable with similar restaurants, certainly very good value. Will definitely return and really recommend the North Star.

First time visit to North Star. From start to finish the food, service and hospitality was first class. Loved my prawn cocktail starter and lamb shank with minted gravy. Friends ordered the lasagna, scampi and meat pie. On seeing the Willy Wonka style sweet trolley we could not resist on taking 3 meringues and 1 cheesecake home with us. Really nice find.

Took friends from Scotland for Sunday lunch and although service was very good the food presented was very poor! The fish and Scampi were tasteless, the vegetables consisted of frozen chips, watery mashed potatoes, carrot, peas and shredded white cabbage all of which had any flavour extracted in the cooking. Unfortunately, we couldn't bring ourselves to complain at the time for fear of embarrassing our guests. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

We went here as The Viking (down the road) don't server food after 7:30pm when they have live music on. That was somewhat fortuitous as The North Star was fantastic in every respect and we will definitely return. The waiting staff were fantastic and the lady serving us took our coats and hung them up, can't ever recall that happening to me! She also told me off for not using cutlery from the outside in (all very good natured). The food did not disappoint either, all four of us enjoying three courses. Highlight for me were the venison and black pudding sausages with stilton sauce, beautiful. Others also liked the T-bone steak, the lamb shank and roulade. I can't wait to go back!

We were staying in Filey and struggling to find somewhere to eat when I recalled The North Star where I had been with my parents decades before. It was a long drive but well worth it. It was a step back in time.Attentive smartly dressed staff who had the time to chat. I do like a proper pie and after an assurance it was a proper pie I ordered one. WOW! It was £3 or £4 less than I was expecting to pay in Filey and a huge slab of proper steak pie. Not only that it was served with chips, new potatoes, battered parsnips, carrots and peas. My partner had some beautifully cooked fish. Our starters were equally good. It's like restaurants were before the preprepared boil in the bag food arrived. It was a bit of a faff driving there and back but well worth the effort.

We came Tuesday night for my sister's bday. Very warm welcome and cozy atmosphere. Our table had been cutely decorated with ribbons. My prawn cocktail and homemade pie were beautiful. The waitresses and chef were gems with our friend who is gluten free and very picky. Sweets came on a trolley which all looked delicious. The waitresses later came with a birthday ice cream and sang happy birthday. Overall just a fabulous experience. We will be back

"The North Star" provides what I would call a retro dining experience. It was a bit of a throwback to years gone by with the all-female serving staff wearing identical blouses and skirts. The service was very professional and the tables were not squeezed together. I got the impression that the venue is popular with older locals going out for special meals. Most people still dress up a little to go there. The food was all right without being scintillating. At some expense I ordered a Flamborough crab cocktail as my starter but it was so smothered in marie-rose sauce that I could hardly taste the crab. For my main course I had fillet steak medallions in gravy with side vegetables. The meat was tender but the taste a little bland. Desserts came from a dessert trolley. It seemed to be "a thing" there. My strawberry meringue did not feature enough strawberries, nor enough cream. Maybe we had been expecting too much but in the end we were a bit disappointed with "The North Star".

Very friendly and welcoming staff, especially the gentleman on the bar. The food was traditional, well presented, fresh and very generous portions.

Having walked the coastal path to Flamborugh Lighthouse, it was such a nice day we decided to carry on up to North landing. Arriving at lunch time we spotted the North Star which someone had previously recommended so we popped in expecting a standard pub lunch. I don't normally give 5 stars, and whilst the food wasn't quite 100% the qulity of the food and standard of service was exceptional even though the dining areas were full and people waiting for tables to empty. Decor was quaint old fashioned near the bar and the waiting staff friendly, efficient and courteous. Even the deserts came on an old fashioned trolley. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal so much outside of high end restaurants. This will be my number 1 recommendation to any friends coming to the area. Thank you for such an enjoyable experience.
