After crossing the bridge to Scalpay turn left where signposted for "Am Baile/The Village". Just keep on this road and you'll come to the bistro on the right side of the road. It's a humble looking building, a former shop, and my wife expressed some doubt that we'd found this recommended restaurant! I had to remind her of the old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" :-)

This place is clearly very proud of its prime quality cuisine, there are certificates on the wall, and the chef does the rounds regularly to bask in the admiration of diners. This pride in the food is not without justification, but the wider picture is less rosy, as other aspects of the experience are seriously lacking.

Skoon Art Cafe

21/05/2019: My wife and I visited this little cafe today and as always really enjoyed our visit - Emma's scones with cream and jam are to die for! It has changed a little from our previous visit, when there was quite a range of sandwiches and savoury lunches on offer. But not they have gone back to their roots with just a few sweet choices to choose from! And for us, it certainly works! It was just lovely! A fine friendly welcome, good food and coffee - it was just great!
02/06/2019: The Gallery mainly features landscape paintings of local scenes in oil by Andrew Craig and is located in a cottage a couple of minutes off the Golden Road at Geocrab. There is plenty of parking at the top of the driveway.

Temple Cafe

23/05/2019: Great location overlooking Northton machair, goes like a fair, had to wait in quite a queue but well worth it.Excellent treacle scone, strawberry cake and all served on pretty and old china.Fresh wildflowers on tables, lovely hand soap in toilets and next time, I'll try the very tasty looking savoury food being rustled up.Nice staff too.
31/05/2019: Based on favourable TA reviews I'd put this cafe down on the list of places to visit if possible during our island stay. You may think that you're never going to find it however if you keep driving through Northton, heading for the loch, you will eventually come upon it. It's the cottage-style stone building with a decent sized car park and a view.
