rude people. i saw a poor lady be stopped from coming in because of a flag she was wearing on her blazer

My daughter booked a table for Father’s Day for 6 of us . My husband and I arrived first .we were shown to our table which were 2 single tables pushed together with one end pushed against the wall . I was shocked my husband and son inlaw are both over 6ft and there were another 4 of us to fit in . I asked if we could have a table which we could all fit round and was told very curtly that’s your table . I then noticed there were 5 chairs for 6 people the staffs response was to bring a chair with with a peeling seat cover and wedge it in . I must say the food was very good but small portions we we’re also under pressure to order very quickly as they were closing the kitchen down for a private party we had a 12-30 booking which is lunchtime .??????? This Father’s Day experience was awful we made the best of it but would NEVER want to return to be treated like cattle this is not the right way to run a business. DISAPPOINTED and DISGUSTED.

Friendly, happy pub. Right next to Watford Stadium. Drinks reasonable. Kids allowed and a gaming corner available. Garden space , very clean throughout. 🙂

£6.50 for pint of Foster’s in a plastic cup is madness. More expensive than at the bar in the stadium opposite and in central London, where you also get a glass!

The pub opposite the football ground. Friendly, helpful, and efficient staff. Decent pint of Guinness.

Four friends stayed here some hours before Watford were playing Arsenal (2-2). The pub serve very good burgers in a nice outdoor garden. Inside they show other PL matches on several screens. Top atmosphere before match with kind staff and several draft beers.

I visited the red lion with my partner and our 2 daughters before watching Watford play football. drink prices 2.60 for a small coke nearly a fiver for Guinness 3 Cokes and a pint £12 expensive cheaper to drink inside the ground rip off friendly though

This pub is quiet except when Watford football club play at the Stadium opposite. Beer is a bit expensive. But the decor us nice. Could do with more tables and chairs. Bar staff friendly and welcoming

Lovely place, you have the opportunity to enjoy your drinks with friends while watching the match, indoor and out. I've also noticed some salsa's lessons in the evening, great initiative!

Friendly, good value pub. Right next to the Watford FC ground and a popular place for Watford fans to have a post-match celebration. Often has really good live music on match day...

A nice pub that, after going through several owners, has started to really pick up. It is family friendly, and offers a nice selection of lagers, but no draught ales. Food is always good and nicely priced. Since it reopened the kitchen has closed and its opening hours have been cut, turning what had been a promising pub into an empty shell. Salsa evenings and match days are what keep it from going under.

Always enjoy coming in here. Had a burger today before the game. A proper burger Beer good. Ok plastics but that’s footy for you Great venue to catch up with Watford boys

A nice location and pleasant surroundings, but definitely just a bubble over the "Inn chains" of old. OK for a family get together if you have everyone from eight to eighty with you, but not recommended for impressing that special person in your life.

We went into Red Lion to watch a league game before entering the stadium for a Watford home game. It was total surprise to discover the restaurant does not have that pay channel. Instead we had to watch a Swedish hockey game. High price level considering it’s just a regular pub with a good location.

A little Gem of a place. Don't let the exterior fool you. This place has a really nice beer garden also, the staff are really friendly in this place, and the music not to load. We didn't have any food so unable to comment on that but for a nice drink I recommend this place. I would avoid on match day! The last time I went they were still not accepting card payment which is really annoying. They did have a cash machine but this was Not free to use. Please allow card payments! :-)

Stumbled across this place for a quick lunch on Valentine’s Day and was very impressed with the staff and the chief. The best sausage and mash I’ve ever had! No lumpy pieces in the mash and sausages just perfectly browned the way I like it!

I was disappointed with the beer I had normally it's good but last time it took ages to pour and it had a sour taste to it

I've been visiting this pub for many years on match days and was delighted when it reopened last season. However, whilst it was great initially, in recent weeks it has gone down hill fast. Quite how a pub with a premier league football ground less than 50 yards away does not show Sky Sports baffles me. But worse than that, the bar staff insist on playing appalling music at a ridiculous volume meaning that you can barely converse with anyone. Irritatingly, every time I have complained, they have turned it down for a while and then gradually turn it back up. Clearly, they are more interested in their own entertainment than that of their customers. To make matters even worse, the price of drinks have now reached such a level that it actually cheaper to drink in the ground which, I suspect, is pretty much unheard of anywhere in the UK! I am not the only one to think like this as where it used to be rammed before games, it is now barely half full and all but empty afterwards. Avoid it like the plague, unless you actually want to be ripped off and deafened.

I’ve been here with friends twice now and the food and service have been excellent! The food is fresh, well presented and delicious. The staff are friendly and happy to help. I highly recommend the burgers!

This place has surprisingly great food (not just basic 'pub' food) lovely staff and a calm, inviting atmosphere. I live just down the street and unfortunately did not realise what a gem this was until a recent unplanned visit, despite having walked past it a million times. Now that we know what a great spot this is, we'll definitely be returning frequently! The bruschetta was incredible!

The burger at the Red Lion is a real treat before a Watford match, unlike the team it always delivers quality. They just need to improve their ale selection to the same standard as the burger.

I was there for the match day of Watford FC. Great atmosphere, lovely staff always smiling and tasty food! I tried both burgers and chicken: simply amazing!

Easy to get served on match days

Im a foodie person ,but this was like a dream in middle day.Just arrive with my friends in this area and we was so hungry that we had impression we walk in actually in paralel univers.A nice pub,with a nice ,profesional staff ,lovely service and amazing atmosphere inside and best food that i have in a pub,all things was like a dream.don't have others words about food ,because it was amazing,that homemade sauces,chips ...burgers ...i can't even thing about it now without have my mouth watering.hope i will find my way soon to No.8 at Red Lion again ,very soon :P

Absolutely delicious - homemade sauces, the menu made with care and enthusiasm, portions are big and juicy, the staff is fun, it's just what real food is supposed to be - it is a combination of unique recipes, fresh products, presentation all with scrutiny to detail. They do deliveries too - If I was working in the area definitely would be a regular.

This is a perfect pub right out the front of Watford stadium with such a vibrant atmosphere on match day! Food is always amazing, so gourmet for such a decent price so you can spend more on beer! The beef burger and sweet potato fries are always delicious and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I can’t recommend this place any higher 10/10! I will definitely be back for more football celebration and a great feed.

This place really opens up on match days. I have been a few times now and everyone agreed the food was awesome! Didn't cost an arm and a leg too. The atmosphere was fun, friendly staff also. Would recommend.

Very nice and friendly gastro pub!! Their burger is a 5 star burger, the meat is fresh and juicy, the sauces are a great combination!!! Perfect to taste with their special sweet potatoes chips! I Will definitely go back!!!
