Booked a table online - turned up to find restaurant closed. Others were having the same experience. No response from restaurant. Has the restaurant closed?

My husband and I enjoy trying out new curry houses and finding the 'best yet' around Birmingham on a regular basis. This one is currently number one! You can take your own wine to this one, this is imperative really as cuts costs by quite a bit!! The service and character of the staff started the night off well, they were very attentive and extremely funny, we had banter all evening. We chose the home made Jalfrezi (I had a hotter version) and it took a while, however the taste was so fresh and amazing that it stood up to it's name and tasted prepped and cooked while we were there. Even the rice had some unusual flavours, again piping hot and very fresh, I could have eaten it alone. I can't wait to go again and hope the experience will be the same.

It's worth a visit if only for the decor. We had a pleasant evening here but it could have been better mainly due to our personal preferences. The onion bhaji was a strange texture, a bit tough and hot but not unpleasant. Our curries were on the dry side and both rather hot, unusually my Jalfrezi had tomatoes in it and a few too many chilies for my liking. Both dishes came in bowls which made them slightly awkward to eat if ordering rice and chips. Annoyingly the wife's dupiaza had more depth of flavour than my Jalfrezi. The pilau rice was of the three food colour variety which I am not a fan of. Unfortunately they didn't have any of the wife's favourite pistachio kulfi. Overall it could have been better and with a different choice off the menu I suspect it would be. I guess I am sounding a bit negative but not mentioned in some of the other reviews there are some plus points. The service was pleasant and timely. You can take your own alcohol or buy theirs, I liked my Cobra, the wife enjoyed her Merlot. You could eat very cheaply here if you wanted to save a few pennies. They also had a card machine.

Lots of options on the menu and the food was delicious. Lots of competition in Kings Heath but really held its own. The restaurant itself is nice and a cut above most and the service was excellent. We’ll be back to try other dishes!

One of the best restaurants I have been to for a long time, the starters were amazing and the taste was delicious, the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala was the best I have ever had, me and my family loved all the food and the service was great, I have recommended this restaurant to all my friends and family and cannot wait to go back.

Number 42 looks good both inside and out, but I go to restaurants for the food. This restaurant is twice as expensive as others on Poplar Rd and not half as good. It seemed to be all hype and no substance. The food was served in beautiful bowls/ slates but it was cold and under spiced. The wine was ridiculously overpriced with awful chardonnay at £18.00 a bottle. Finally the worst thing was finding out at the end of the meal there was no card payment...really are we in the 1990's. Would the restaurant be ok if we had arrived with no cash? Why didn't they let us know when we arrived. With loads of great restaurants on this road we won't eat here again.

Went here last night for my birthday meal with my better half; we live round the corner, so have been looking to try it out for a while. We were not disappointed; the service, atmosphere and most importantly, the food was superb. Everything we had was hot and fresh. The spice palate is slightly hotter than you would expect from some of the dishes, but this is where good Indian cooking excels above your average takeaway, as the spices enhanced the dishes, not swamped them. Go back? You bet! We are so pleased to live so close to the best Indian dining experience we have had in Birmingham, and that is saying something!

We thought we would try this restaurant as it is close to where we live and we had family from abroad for Christmas. We had visited it when it was the Italian. First impressions...The waitress was delightful as we dithered with our orders and a toddler in tow . All the food arrived wonderfully fresh and tasty. Nice choice on the menu and authentic choices. They couldn't do enough for us. Let's support our new local businesses, when they deliver such atmosphere and service. Give it a go! 😊

Piquant from Moseley lives on! :-) Brilliant food and licensed which is becoming rarer in Kings Heath. Absolutely love it...

We came across this restaurant by coincidence, and we couldn't end up any better! Food is absolutely delicious and the service is really friendly and eager to satisfy the customer's needs. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the food so much that we ordered delivery today, and we were really to pleased to see that the owner himself came to bring us food, showing how much they care about their customers. Strongly recommended!!!

We were big fans of Piquant in St Mary’s Row, so as soon as we realised the owner had set up No42 Poplar Road with the same chef, we were excited to visit. Our table of 6 included friends who also loved Piquant - the question was whether No42 would live up to our fond memories. We needn’t have worried. The friendly welcome and the food were as excellent as ever. Get there over Christmas if you can - delicious, comfortable and there’s even the added bonus of a welcome drink this Christmas (Sun-Tues). The bill was modest, great value and a fantastic evening - we’ll be back again soon!

A group of six of us had dinner here recently and would recommend. So many Asian restaurants in Kings Heath and Moseley but this place stood out for the smart decor ( linen tablecloths as opposed to paper!), friendly service and the food was a cut above the usual for quality, but very competitively priced. We all thoroughly enjoyed our starters mains and sides and will definitely be back. The restaurant is licensed and drinks prices were very reasonable. Try it out, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I've reviewed before but have to review again because it's just *that* good. I've been here about 5/6 times now for food, wouldn't go anywhere else now if we're after a curry. The food is unreal, tastes homemade - not like the generic sauces you get in every other Indian restaurant. Portion size is brilliant (do not order more than one portion of onion bahjji 🤣). They definitely don't scrimp on meat, the lamb is my favourite, always so tender! My kids absolutely love it here as well. Management and staff are always lovely, really friendly - I even got a compliment on how old I look so brownie points there ha! Would definitely recommend, little hidden gem in the middle of Sheldon, who'd have thought! Thanks staff again for another lovely dinner!

Having driven past this restaurant for years we decided to give it a go, and we were not disappointed. The food was very nice and great choice of menu although with only option to purchase drinks it was a little pricey. The dishes were all good and the starters were the 'gem' with everyone enjoying a delicious starter. We will definitely return to this restaurant for special occasions but not for a 'cheap curry' with friends. The food is worth that little bit extra on the bill but not on a regular basis.
