It was my Mum’s 80th birthday the day before & I wanted to treat her with an afternoon tea just the 2 of us. I had booked a few days prior but when we turned up the receptionist looked surprised to see us. We were shown into the bar area & a 3 tier cream tea was plonked down in front of us, not explanation of what was in the finger sandwiches or what any of the sweet stuff was, I ordered a cappuccino which unfortunately was barely luke warm. When the staff finally popped back in we ordered 2 latte which were lovely & asked what food we’d been given, unfortunately she had no idea what was in 3 little glasses but guessed at a panne cotta, this seriously needs looking at because of people with allergies & the staff have no clue on what they’re serving! The 2 scones were cold, dry & not enjoyable, food was left as it just wasn’t up to scratch. Even though I purchased this cream tea through Wowcher at a discounted price it was a real disappointment & we won’t return & don’t recommend. Such a shame such a special day was ruined ! Absolutely no care or service!

Visited this restaurant for an evening meal, excellent food, good and attentive service. Good selection of food and drinks, the steak and chicken were delicious.

We recently dined at No.34, The Orchid Hotel’s newly relaunched restaurant. From the moment we arrived we were truly spoilt. Our waiter Mason was very polite and attentive. Our starters were delightful in particular the generous king prawn & smoked salmon salad. The mains were equally pleasing, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the seared duck breast was very tasty. Compliments to the new Head Chef Amber who is clearly making her mark. Can’t wait to return when they open for Sunday Roast.

Staying at the hotel. Booked No34 for evening meal. What a little gem of a place to eat. The ham hock and black pudding was a work of art and tasted so good. Our mains equally as good. I would like to see more people use this fab restaurant, they really are missing out big time. Staff great too.. Give it a try...

Went here for dinner as recommended by Charlotte who works at the hotel. We opted to go here before the football. Food was absolutely excellent! One of the best places we had been to on our trip here.

Recently we visited No 34 restaurant in Bournemouth and the food was outstanding. A good selection on the menu, we could have picked every dish! The produce was really fresh and flavours were great, service was also on point; we could not fault it. We would highly recommend a visit to the restaurant if you were visiting Bournemouth.

We are just back from a two night stay at The Orchard hotel, we ate in Restaurant 34 last night after reading the reviews. Starter was Carrot and cardamom soup, for the main we had the fish and the brownie for desert. There was an offer for 2 courses plus a glass of wine for £25 per person. The whole meal was brilliant, tasted great and looked very pretty. The waitress was very friendly, we will definitely return when we next visit.

My wife and myself are currently visiting Bournemouth staying at the Orchid Hotel (Review to follow) and - after reading many positive Reviews - were looking to dining at the Hotel’s “No 34” Restaurant. As it happens, the No 34.Restaurant has just reopened but only on Friday & Saturday evenings so we missed out on Dinners (a shame as there are relatively few other restaurants in the vicinity) but were more than happy with the Breakfasts which now also include cooked one. In addition, we had a very nice Afternoon Tea but actually had this in the Courtyard which proved an excellent setting. On our next visit, however, Dinner at the 34 Restaurant will be very much on the agenda!

I heard the hotel restaurant was reopening after COVID closure. With social distancing in place, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff. We all enjoyed our food and had a lovely evening. We were looked after by professional and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back.

A high quality and tasty meal. One of the best in Bournemouth at the moment. A small menu but a good selection of starters and mains, enough dishes that there were choices to be made. If I had an quibbles, there were a couple of things on my main course that could have been a little bit hotter. The service was very good, despite there not being many staff. The wine list is very limited, it would be nice to see more options. In these days when chain restaurants seem to be taking over this is an excellent find.

Went for a meal to restaurant as a non resident. When starter course arrived we were very impressed by the presentation. Would the food taste as good as it looked? Yes it's did. Stunning. Wonderful aromas and flavours. The main courses and dessert continued the excellent experience. Based on what we enjoyed can recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves fine food.

When booking through Booking.com, their own restaurant did not come up. What a shame as could have missed out. Booked table for 6 on Friday evening, and I must say that the food, flavours and presentation were wonderful. Only a small menu, but that simply translates to its all freshly prepared, and I must say, the lemon posset was lovely.

This restaurant is superb. The decor is bright and welcoming very modern, staff very helpful and friendly. Food selection was very good and the quality and presentation was absolutely excellent, the food was very tasty and to a very good standard. Would highly recommend, and we will return!!

First visit back after discovering no 34 in September last year and thinking we’d hit the jackpot. A bit frustrating this time as most of the food was excellent but some a bit average. For example the sea bass was amazing but served with very low quality olives. The cheese board had some nice blue cheese (Stilton I think) but the cheddar was rubbery and bland (and they seemed to be running out of quince!). Pork was amazing but Broccoli (which was very good)was served after we finished the main course. Was surprised to see the jetty beat this in the BAPTA awards but definitely not as good as our last visit.

We visited in a Friday night at short notice and I’m very glad that we did. The restaurant has a quality, yet relaxed feel and it wasn’t overly busy. All of the food that we had was excellent and I can highly recommend the rib eye. We will certainly go back again and would recommend it those that have not been

We've had both dinner and breakfast here. The food is excellent, but the service at breakfast can be a little slow. Generally quality ingredients well presented.

Restaurant itself has a great, quiet environment inside the hotel. The food is delicious and have options for everybody. Although is just an Evening place we would highly recommend it!!

We had a 2 course meal included in our room price at Orchid hotel. Waiter never even asked if we wanted a drink. Starter of mussels luke warm! No apologies and when dish came back it had obviously been reheated. My homecured salmon such a tiny portion. Mains not much better. Belly pork not freshly cooked. My hake was a nice portion but served with 4 clams.....really talk about stingy! So disappointed with service and food. Would not recommendate.

Booked at last minute for Christmas get together with friends. Absolutely brilliant! Staff were so accommodating and friendly. The menu was varied and the food was perfect! 😊

Booked this for a special occassion and was pleasantly surprised. It is a real fine dining place and although the menu is a bit limited the food was fantastic. My wife had the lamb which was very good quality meat and cooked perfectly. My boullabaise was delicious, also all perfectly cooked pieces of salmon, cod, and shellfish in a rich but not overpowering stock. Nice service also. On the expensive side but justified by the quality. One complaint that the music was a bit loud which might have been because the room was a bit echoey, but didn't detract too much from the evening. We are fussy customers but will definitely go back here.

As other people have mentioned, this is the Orchid Hotel's restaurant. The decor is modern and comfortable and tables not too close together. On our visit during our stay at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised to discover the food here to be as good as the Arbor restaurant across the road at the Greenhouse Hotel. Surprisingly there were only my wife and I and one other couple eating here on a Saturday night. As I titled, people are missing out on a gem. The food was without fault and Angela who served us was attentive and friendly. Even though we were the last couple in the restaurant we never felt rushed or forgotten. An excellent meal and delightful visit that will be repeated.

We expected the normal Hotel fare as experienced in several other Bournemouth Hotels and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of appetizing choices for both starters and main. Upon receiving the starters both my wife and I were impressed at the presentation and thoroughly enjoyed the flavour and texture. The main course was then presented and was outstanding in vision and taste. It was significantly better than the Raymond Blanc restaurant we had gone to the previous night.

This is the restaurant at the Orchid Hotel in Gervis Road, Bournemouth. It was quiet as there was a wedding reception in the main part of the hotel, but that meant service was excellent! The food tasted very fresh and the chicken was succulent. The gin and orange sorbet was amazing! I will try to book a table here next time I’m in Bournemouth.

Been there on a casual dinner with wifey, nice and modern decor with solid service and amazing food. I had the salmon started and wifey has the beetroot and both where amazing in presentations and flavour.We then got the cod and the mussels that also didn’t disappoint.Hidden gem in Bournemouth cannot recommend it enough.

A lovely small restaurant in the heart of Bournemouth not to far from the beach. The decor is modern, the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is presented so well that I wanted to take photos and tastes amazing! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone living or visiting the Bournemouth area and look forward to eating here again.

Raved about this place when we first ate here about six months ago.. gave it another go tonight, different menu ( not a bad thing) but prices had jumped through the roof, £31 for a fillet steak? Admittedly we had a tablepouncer discount of 20%, but the steak was £25 last time we ate here. Aware of rising food and staff prices, but this still seemed quite a hefty hike. Maybe the head chef from previous has left, food certainly not as good as last time, although Bearnaise sauce with the steak was perfectly balanced. Bill came in at £120, there were four of us, so not a problem as we’d had a couple of glasses of Prosecco and a very nice bottle of Shiraz with our mains. Being asked not to leave a tip on the card as we paid was the the nail on the coffin for us. I’ve worked in the catering trade, owned my own restaurant, I know that tips are tax deductible on card payments. If I knew that any of my waiting staff had had the audacity to expect a tip, let alone tell the customer not to tip on a card payment, I’d have blown my top. Tips are at the customers discretion, for good food and service. The food wasn’t as good as last time, but the service was still pretty good, I can’t complain about that. Normally I always leave at least 10% of the bill for a tip, always paid in cash. In the end I only left 5%, if it was up to my wife, we wouldn’t have left anything. Don’t like to leave a review on a negative though, the staff were very good apart from the tip faux pas, attentive and professional.

Went here for my wife's birthday. Food was excellent and staff very friendly and accommodating. There was a mix-up over the booking but they sorted it out without any fuss. Superb!

A small restaurant, food was nice although more of an al a carte experience. Staff were attentive without being intrusive.

Food, decor and service fantastic! Whether you take breakfast or dinner there you know you will get quality food at a reasonable cost. The only criticism is that as the menu has been the same for months maybe they need to have a few Specials each night! If youre staying longer than 2 nights more variation would be nice by way of A Special! Thank you to all.

Wow, simply wow ...dining on Friday 13th April was certainly lucky for us, we had mussels with a hint of curry to start, plus the pork belly cooked for 24hours and a sumptuous cod dish. All of which were truly superb with individual flavours and were cooked to perfection. In addition the breakfast at No34 part of the Orchid hotel were brilliant. Thank you for a marvellous dining and super service!

On arrival at the resturant whilst small it has a lovely feel about it- I had not read the groupon small print so did not realise that it was a set 3 course with only a couple of choices- however we opted for the hock to start which is like a pate but only came with a square of toasted bread- we did request more and this was given however again a little square- this really was the only downfall - we opted for duck as our main which was amazing and creme bruelli for pudding. Groupon also stated prosecco thinking this would be a glass- I was wrong it was a whole bottle. Our waitress was lovely and very smiley and very helpful. I would certainly recommend to eat here and will be back again. We also had breakfast the following morning but opted for room service, the food was lovely not at all fatty which some full English can be and it was more than filling and helped our hangover :)

Booked a table for two last minute via table pouncer. Didn’t realise at the time it was attached to the Orchid Hotel where we have had great experiences enjoying afternoon tea. Warm welcome and a nice touch being introduced to our server by name. Nothing was too much trouble and the service felt personal without being too over familiar. No.34... your staff made our evening. The food however was also extremely good. We had three courses and each hand every one was well executed with my fillet of beef being possibly the best steak I have ever enjoyed. Another highlight was the cheeseboard which was surprisingly served at room temperature-finally somewhere that knows how to serve cheese! A very enjoyable evening in a beautifully appointed environment and I could not recommend you try this lovely eaterie enough. We will be back, and very soon!

We stayed at the hotel on a short break deal with dinner included. We weren't expecting such a good meal but were pleasantly surprised. My wife thought the Chef's Signature Cod dish was delicious. My veal loin was realy tasty and not overcooked, which is a really easy thing to do with that cut of meat.We plan to go back sometime, what more can I say.

Visited number 34 on a recommendation and had a set valentines meal. I must admit having eaten at most of the recommended restaurants in Bournemouth and surrounding area that this is a little gem. For a set menu it was fabulous value, the food was gorgeous and I’ll certainly be coming back with my girlfriend for dinner off the normal menu. Highly recommend

This was an unexpected find given the location and the mediocre restaurants and hotels surrounding it. I had dinner here twice and breakfast several times more. Breakfast was spot on, but the dinner menu and service really excelled. The menu is elevated with interesting choices, often using local ingredients, and a good number of options for vegetarians, too.The food tasted great and was beautifully presented. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for the quality and presentation of the food. It's a cut above similar places in Bournemouth.

I was staying at The Orchid hotel on business and visited No 34 for dinner a couple of times. The restaurant is small however it’s very lovely. The atmosphere was great and the staff were super! I would recommend the prawns for starter and the duck dish for main! Beautiful food.

The food was absolutely amazing and the selection of gluten free options was far more than I have ever seen in any other hotel. The service was great and the staff very attentive.

Suprise birthday dinner for my wife, very warm welcome from front of house - drinks arrived promptly, as did our first courses. Mains superb, I had the beef fillet, my wife had the hake in piperade - the latter really evoked memories of summer, as we holiday in and around Biarritz and the Basque region every year. Good value kids menu for my daughter. Deserts even better, possibly the best tarte tatin I have eaten outside of France, properly caramelised apple.. yum! Professional service throughout our meal, unhurried, attentive without being intrusive, whilst sat in the comfy settees outside the bar drinking our coffee, we were presented with a plate of homemade petits fours. Spot on little touches that make for a truly outstanding dining experience. We left stuffed and happy, and would have no hesitation in returning here.

This really is a hidden gem. The food is absolutely delicious, especially the twice baked cheese soufflé and lamb navarin, The decor is very pleasant, background music just right and the service very attentive and friendly without being over the top. We have eaten here a few times now and I would say this is one of my favourite restaurants in the Bournemouth area.

Our first time here and we really enjoyed our evening. The service was efficient with just the right balance of being attentive without being overbearing. Our waitress was delightful and was knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent - the asparagus and cheese soufflé starters were delicious as were the stonebass and lamb navarin mains. We liked the atmosphere with just the right volume of background music. We will certainly go back. We are locals and were not staying at the hotel so ideal for an evening out in pleasant surroundings with good food.

This was truly a disappointment. Even a trainee chef could have done better. The starters, my wife started with the crab. The plate was cold, the crab was cold and the decoration, spots of balsamic?, had to be scrapped off the plate. Straight from the fridge. The tomato and goats cheese tempura. Sounds good, it wasn't. Tasteless and the cheese wrong consistency. Which amateur did this debacle.Main course. They arrived at different times, give or take 7 minutes. The sauce went wrong. Fair enough but in good restaurants they redo both plates and serve them at the same time. Let's get on to the dishes now thy have arrived. The duck, one piece was edible, over cooked but edible the other 3? The rosti wasn't fresh, the sauce was tasteless.My wife assured me the hake was good. The gratin dauphinois was clearly left in the oven an extra 7 minutes and was dry. 'Chef', (lol) will make another one.' We told them not to bother, but they brought it anyway! Did this restaurant do anything right? No. Don't go.

Excellent is the only thing I can say about this restaurant, we had one of the best meals... and we have had a few. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. We both had fish dishes and they were impeccable and complete meals. I think the price is more than fair for the quality of the meals.

The four of us enjoyed a variety of dishes with good flavours and presentation, the staff were helpful with suggestions about the dishes and the service was good and quick -we ate early in the evening.

We had a meal here a couple of days after attending a Wedding and it was out of this world!My wife had the soufflé- beyond amazing and I went for the crab, divine!For mains we had the lamb navarin and sea bass- melts in your mouth...We love this hotel and all the staff and have already re Booked for dinner next week.Back for a wedding in November as well and also been invited to a Christmas party with a large local company in December!Well done all- as usual fantastic!!!

we were really blown away with the food last evening. We thought it was excellent before but this has taken 'dining experience' to a completely another level. The menu can only be described as 'exciting' and making it so difficult to choose. From the gorgeous walnut bread and olives to nibble right through to the petit fours all four of us were in raptures. I have never in all my years in hospitality tasted so good in each course. Just amazing!!!! No 34 is certainly a winner.

We thought that by booking a small restaurant in a boutique hotel we would have a pleasant dinner, it was not the case. Whilst the food and service were good the evening was spoiled by a large party celebrating a birthday.It is only a small restaurant and our table was next to the large party's table, once the drinks started flowing it was a competition to see who could be heard, the men shouted and the women shrieked. The restaurant did recognise the problem and did not charge us for our deserts and at our request moved us to a table a little further away (not out of earshot), however, had I been informed that there was a birthday celebration taking place that night I would certainly not have made the booking. The overall rating would have been higher if there had not been the excessive noise but because of that i did not enjoy the evening.

Absolutely wonderful! Modern, clean and friendly! We have dined here on our stay in Bournemouth many times. The menu is varied with the freshest ingredients ever. Presented and prepared beautifully. A good, reasonably priced wine list too. Average price with top end quality! Go on n spoil yourself!

Loved the food here and would definitely recommend. We had afternoon tea, 3 course evening meal and breakfast and we found everything delicious.

We were very fortunate to be invited to the No 34 restaurant opening which is located within the Orchid Hotel. The ambiance and the friendly welcome by Christina was exceptional. The starter of tempura prawns and sweet chilli dip was to die for. The 1000 leaves of crab was also enjoyed along with a nice chilled glass of Sancerre. As a main I selected the Lamb Navarin which had been slow cooked and served with seasonal vegetables and new potatoes, the dish was very tender and a joy to eat. Dessert of apple tartin with a salted caramel ice cream was a nice way to finish of my meal. It was a pleasure to be handed a menu where there were so many dishes that I could have chosen from.Christina and the team offered exceptional service and I will definitely be returning time and time again when back in the UK.

An intimate restaurant in the heart of Bournemouth. The Orchid team were exceptionally welcoming and nothing was too much to ask. Every dish was delicious but the 1000 leaves of Crab was outstanding, with vanilla oil and layers of ripe tomato, I'd highly recommend!

I have to tell you straight away what a delicious treat I had last night at the No.34 Restaurant.The restaurant itself is quite small but gives the restaurant a unique charm. Imagine a delicate tasting menu restaurant in the middle of France.The service was lovely.Each waiter has been extremely nice and very accommodating.Now the food.I have to say I tried many restaurants in Bournemouth.No.34 is one of the best restaurants I have been.I loved the 1000 leaves of crab.But even more, the Hake which was extremely tender and aromatic.The Cheeseboard has been a smorgasbord of cheese delights and not to forget the amazing puddings which are almost too pretty to eat.My conclusion: I will go back.

This restaurant is in the orchid hotel but is open to non residents and I am sure this will quickly become one of Bournemouth's top places to eat.We had a crab starter which was to die for plus asparagus simply cooked but in a delicious sauce.Mains were hake cooked to perfection with potatoes cooked with cream and cheese plus a fillet steak which melted in the mouth.Puddings were equally nice with Trio of chocolate and an apple tartin with salted caramel ice cream.Not cheap but worth every penny

No.34 is a hidden gem as it is inside a hotel and therefore would not be spotted by the passing crowds however totally worth making the effort to go. The food was spectacular and the service impeccable...I loved the window table that we had and the whole experience was superb. I'd recommend going for leisure however is also the perfect place for a business dinner.

We went to this restaurant as it had been recommended by a friend. The atmosphere was really relaxed, the restaurant wasn't noisy / too busy, it provided the perfect setting for us to celebrate our special night. My wife is Gluten Free and its the first restaurant we have been to in a while where the "standard menu" clearly shows what is GF - a really nice touch, and even more a majority of the food is GF. I hate getting an A4 folder and having to go through it or rely on the waitress to know the ingredients! Anyway the food was delicious, we had champagne with our starters and a Malbec with our main. The steak was really tasty and my wife enjoyed the Stonebass. I also had the triple chocolate desert because i have a sweet tooth, and it was amazing, and a decent size too. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. All in all a great restaurant and brilliant evening. Thank you so much.

My husband & I were really impressed by the variety & quality of the food as well as how attentive the staff were. The decor was lovely too so all in all a fantastic evening & we'll be visiting again soon.

No.34 is a restaurant within a hotel, but don't let that put you off. The food is fantastic and makes it well worth making the very short detour out of the centre of Bournemouth. They have clearly invested a lot of time and effort in the decor to make it feel like a standalone restaurant and the menu speaks for itself. Will definitely go back.

We eat out every week so are used to comparing service, food and the general restaurant experience. My wife and I visited No 34 Restaurant and were greeted upon arrival, and chaperoned throughout the evening by the very friendly staff. We tried different menus. She went for fish and I tried steak. We were both delighted. She had the white and I had the red wine: both good.And for suite we had a light choice each, from a wide selection, followed by coffee.

Recently went to this boutique restaurant, had a nice table near the window.Very attentive & professional staff.Food was vibrant, had its own unique presentation & tight choice of dishes.Definitely would recommend- fantastic food !

Great variety of food, friendly staff and an overall positive experience. I enjoyed the 1000 leaves of crab for starter - the guacamole twist made this dish taste exceptional. For main I recommend the stonebass, it is fried to perfection on a medley of vegetables. And if you are a lover of deserts, you are spoilt for choice! You cannot go wrong from either the trio of chocolate delights to the hibiscus cheesecake

Our dinner at No.34 has been one of the best we've had. From the cozy environment to the friendly staff and the excellent food this ticked all the boxes. I particularly loved having a couple of solid vegetarian options on the menu that weren't the old not-so-favourite mushroom risotto. Instead, I enjoyed Soufflé, Pasta, with Artichokes and a wonderful pudding. The main could have been a tad bit smaller in my opinion but all in all we both really loved it!

My husband and I dined at No 34 last night and really enjoyed the food, ambience and attentiveness of the staff, they really went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful evening.The menu was interesting, with dishes that were delicious and just that little bit different. The cheese souffle was amazing and my husband's 1000 leaves of crab was also very good.There were a couple of small glitches, we were served warm white wine and the music was not very relaxing at the start of the meal, however all of this was dealt with immediately and in a very professional way and in no way spoilt our pleasure of the meal.,Nice to go to a new restaurant that actually delivers, we had a super evening and will be back very soon.

The dishes on offer are familiar but they have interesting twist on the standard method. I had duck with peppercorm which was very nice. The deserts , especially the strawberry/rhubard one was amazing. I think they offer very good food and the prices are not over the top by comparison to other local offerings.

Had the pleasure of eating here last night and have to say was super impressed, the crab starter was amazing, followed by the Halibut. I will be going back. Great service and an affordable wine list. Thank you No.34!

My partner and I were invited to attend one of the restaurants launch nights. The restaurant was completely full with others also attending this complimentary event, really putting the kitchen and service to the test. The food was excellent.My partner is very particular and our favourite local restaurant is The Jetty, to which we couldn't help but compare. To my amazement my partner actually felt the Cheese Soufflé was better at No. 34! The main courses were delicious and the Potato Gratin is an absolute must. The service was perfect throughout the event and despite being completely full, there were no delays or rushed interactions with the staff. Great Gin and Tonic menu too! Would highly recommend.

This is a newly opened restaurant within a Boutique Hotel in Bournemouth. It is a little out of the way from the centre but well worth seeking out.
