Quirky cafe 🍵 in the City centre, a lovely young girl serving, really good breakfast choices that are decent sized portions to set you up for the day and excellent value for money. Home bakes also looked delicious

Got festive loaded fries which were amazing and a bonfire hot chocolate. They do really nice coffee and they’re dog friendly :)

Great Sunday morning breakfast, best porridge with nut/berries I've ever tasted. And the sourdough toast with plenty of butter.

Rude, unhelpful staff, small menu with poor veggie options, overpriced food, compulsory service charge even for takeaway food. Won’t be back.

Expensive and poor at best. Waited over 40minutes for two easy breakfasts. Paid £37. Both came incorrect. Meat served on vegetarian breakfast. Extra orders never came. Very disappointed. Refund given for 1 breakfast. Just avoid save yourself the hassle.

Terrible experience, no allergy information anywhere, and when enquired about topping, the meal was replaced, however, we were charged double. On enquiry the owner told us the law in Northern Ireland makes it the customer's responsibility to tell the shop if they have allergies...which is UNTRUE. He also refused to arrive for scheduled meetings to discuss refund. Although we are citizens we still have foreign accents, and he clearly thought he can get away with not displaying allergy information.

On a walk around Derry we were needing a little java to keep up up our hill-climbing strength. The place was well staffed and fairly empty when we arrived but within 10 minutes there wasn’t a table open for anyone. Tried my first Long Black here and was very happy with the service and coffee flavour. Definitely great spot for tourists wanting a non-multinational experience. Sit inside or brave the Derry linguist sunshine outside at the picnic tables.

I had went here to get a coffee and noticed a man with grey hair called Ryan MC cauly picking his nose behind the counter whilst making my coffee, so I confronted him about this whilst giving me my coffee and he got very aggressive, and threatened me. I felt very threatened and had to leave, I will not visit this place again!! I do not recommend this place at all as it is not a friendly place to visit!!

Busy little spot that's dog friendly fine by me but some others might not be comfortable with that worth knowing before you venture up the hill to this café. First impressions were positive again keeping in theme with most places we visited in Derry the decor is influenced by salvage and industrial item's. Downstairs seemed to be well kept clean and modern however it being busy we were showed to and upstairs area that was less so inviting. The ceiling and walls had pealing Paint and plaster that was cracked and falling in the stairwell. White mould seemed to be making itself at home on both the wall and ceiling. The eating area upstairs felt like a school mess hall or a work canteen not at all what I would have expected from the outside. Food however was the saving grace for this café we both enjoyed 2 very different dishes I had dirty loaded fries with buttermilk chicken which was outstanding although the portion size was a little on the small side and I don't have a big appetite. My partner had a sandwich which she said was excellent and being a Chef it did look fantastic and having tasted the chicken it in her sandwich it was very good . Price range is a little tasty here our 2 dishes plus a tea and coffee took our bill to almost £30 which when converted to Euro takes this lunch to over €30 . Which really surprised me given both our dishes were priced one under £10 the other under £11 meaning a tea and a coffee came in at almost £9 I'm not one who pinches penny's but my god you have to look after the pounds like. I honestly think the food was delicious if a little bit pricy but £9 or so for a tea and a coffee is ridiculous by anyone's standards. Overall would recommend for food of sitting downstairs or outside. Teas coffees are expensive imo which will bulk up your bill .

A quiet spot for an Irish breakfast. We were served quickly. I had the traditional Irish breakfast, my daughters a Bap sandwich and porridge. All were delicious. They also mixed the coffee drinks to my daughters liking (and they can be picky). Delicious place for breakfast.

This coffee shop is located at the top end of a character pedestrianised street by an entrance to the historic Derry Walls. We needed a coffee by the time we climbed up the hill from the hotel, so this was ideally placed. It has a pleasant interior and an outside seating area. The coffee was very good quality and the staff were very friendly .

Food was OK in the restaurant. Nothing mind blowing. Really poor vegetarian selection. Music from the bar is pumped into the restaurant which is unnecessary. Not enough waiting staff which led to poor service. We had to go to the bar ourselves for drinks as it was quicker. Unfortunately it won't be on the top of my list for eating out. A note on the bar. Some creeps as clientele, and some very drunk annoying pests. More vigilant staff on this please.

Was looking forward to the spicy pasta used to be lovely here not anymore..sauce was far to peppery! Also my son got chicken goujans and they were that hard couldn't even break them apart. Bar man was rubbing his face constantly while pouring drinks I couldn't even drink mines thinking his beard hair or skin could be in it. Got 2 desserts they were lovely.

Called in tonight and availed of the steak deal and what an amazing price. The meal was one of the best that I had in a very long time. The presentation and taste was amazing. We will definitely be returning to Soda and Starch.

Heard good things about the place, got the single burger and it was burnt. Really disappointed especially due to the high price. Tried cutting around the burnt outside bits (Bun and burger were charred), but then realised the entire thing was burnt. Incredibly disappointed.
