Nico's in Derby

Went here for the first and last time. The food was good but very expensive for what you had. It could do with a better selection on the menu.

The food here is delicious and reasonably priced, will definitely be back to try more of the menu. 100% better than the chains, and the interior has a very cosy atmosphere to it too.

Small and cosy, with very friendly service. Quiet when we came in, but soon filled and everyone seemed to enjoy the atmosphere and food. Menu quite restricted, which is often a good thing. The food was very good ; one look at the tiramisu was enough to show that this was proper home cooking. We really enjoyed our visit.

This is our 5th visit and it never fails to impress. You must have the Samosa chaat. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. The service is fantastic and the ambience is delightful made up of an eclectic mix of business people, families l, couples and birthday parties. Hope to be back soon.

Top quality food, we go regularly. Palak paneer is on point. Nan breads are fantastic. They do breakfast at weekends which is also delicious. It’s a little pricey, but totally worth it.

Saturday eve meal with friends. What a terrible experience. It was like a disco. Music was so loud we couldn't talk. Its an India restaurant not a nightclub..Food took ages to come out. Poms and picks was disappointing and my lamb was spice less 😕

What a great place to go . Polite ,friendly staff .nothing was too much trouble .The cocktails were great .There was a singer who was really good and the place was lively with a good vibe . Would definitely go there again .

Had pizza and garlic bread take out .food was delicious if only pizza was bigger as I was left wanting more. Update - dined in for valentines .meal was lovely cheese cake was delicious. staff are friendly I felt like I was on holiday. Good to know - In the ladies toilets there was sanitary products and body sprays

We went to Nico's on Tuesday 23rd of January. The atmosphere was lovley and the waiter saw I was sensitive to sound and turned the music down and turned it to a calm and classical music without me asking which I appericiated because of my Autism. The service was impeccable and the food was just right in terms of quality and quantity. We had a lovley evening and I would highly reccomend this restaurant to anyone thinking of going there.

we went to Nico’s tonight for the first time after wanting to go for ages but never getting around to it and we loved it so much! the service was quick, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. we had the two different types of Bruchetta to start which were both absolutely lovely. my boyfriend had the Arrabbiata pasta with shrimps and i had the Carbonara and they were both brilliant. it’s such a cute little restaurant with a wonderful vibe to it and we really enjoyed our experience. cannot fault a single thing and would recommend it to anyone looking for great Italian food with great service to match. we will definitely be back in the future! :-)

Intimate little restaurant serving delicious Italian food. Service was great but with a few rough edges, like needing fresh cutlery after it disappears with the starters, and they struggled with the decaf coffee 🤣

Poor all round booked previous Tuesday so plenty of time got there Saturday night only to be told they didn't have our booking and even if they did had no ingredients awful 😔😔😔😔

Really good restaurant. Staff, venue and food all fantastic. Had a birthday celebration meal as a large group and staff were very accommodating for the arrangements and the menu. Great food, I had the prawns, lamb shank and the cheesecake- all top notch

Food was nice and tasty, service was great. But unfortunately my friend ordered a carbonara which she has 9 times out of 10, but this wasn't what she was served, but didn't say anything until we got back to the hotel. But apart from that it was a good evening. Replying to your reply, I asked my friend and she said it was more like Alfredo that she received not carbanare like she ordered

Come here every couple of months or so and the food never disappoints neither do the staff it was my partners birthday at the weekend and they brought a brownie out with a candle singing happy birthday. You just don't get staff like this in alot of places anymore.

I’d really recommend trying here, if you’re passing or looking for somewhere different to try . We really like a good pizza so tried here based on recommendations, I’d definitely say it’s worth a try . We will definitely be going again.

Amazing service and nearly no wait time at all. The chef was very accommodating and made our meals halal.The waiter was incredible and helpful. Bathroom for women was stocked with feminine toiletries and super clean. The only reason I give it 4/5 is because of the food. Starter was the only good thing, Garlic Mushroom bruschetta. The pizza was undercooked and the pasta lacked flavor. The chicken in the pasta along with the noodles themselves was overcooked and the sauce was very watery. I would love to give this place another try as I'm sure it was probably an off day. Other then food, everything else was great.

I live in derby and have driven past this restaurant a million times, never been in before tonight 4/3/23. The wife and I and our 2 piglets (teenagers)were well fed, Lovely thought that the chef came out and spoke to us, a very pleasant surprise. Even gave the wife and I a free shot. Freshly made food, hot and plentiful. Would absolutely recommend.

Good food, good service. Can't fault it really. Food is good, though the normal dishes are a bit boring, so order something more interesting and it's good.

honestly the pizza was so amazing, i really enjoyed it, it was so tasty, I got a pepperoni pizza with jalapeños, really good service aswell, the staff are really friendly :) definitely coming back when I get the chance to come to derby again

I had been waiting for months to get a table here; due to the small capacity of the restaurant, and the limited opening hours, it’s difficult to get a table depending on the day. Overall it a pleasant experience; the waiter was friendly and wait times were minimal. The food was okay, albeit a little bland. When you go to an Italian restaurant, you expect authenticity, and unfortunately I didn’t taste that at all. The prices are a little high for what you get; you pay the same price at more upscale restaurants. There is nothing bad about Nico’s, but there isn’t amazing about it either. Overall, decent service, average food.

A small and quaint Italian restaurant with large and loud flavours. I'm not a huge fan of Italian food as I don't believe many places get it right. However, Nico's absolutely nailed my two main meals. If you like Italian food and have been disappointed by some disgusting chains around Derby, give this restaurant a go. I don't think it will disappoint.

We are here last night. The restaurant is a little tired but it does not over ride the excellent service and great food. We just turned up and they fitted us in. The food was all freshly made with obvious care and attention and it tasted great. We really enjoyed it. We’ll be back. Thank you.

Fantastic service and gorgeous food, clearly a lot of love has been poured into this restaurant and the Tiramisu was phenomenal.

Why wouldn’t you go eat here? Nico is your friendly neighbourhood Itailan and the chef even offered half portions so we could try different things. We don’t have many places that we can walk to from our home, but this one is now on the list. Pizza dough is great, pasta well cooked, sauces tasty and portions generous. I wasn’t a fan of the Sauvignon Blanc, but that’s personal taste. The staff are friendly and will do anything for you. We shall be back!!

Me and my boyfriend ate here after having driven past it multiple times but never went there. The restaurant is quite small and intimate, and overall very homely. Traditional Italian theme from decor to music. The waiter was friendly, and was “on it” with covid cleaning. The wine was really good value, and tasted nice. The menu is small but has everything you would want on it for an Italian (smaller menus are better as it means they cook them well!). I had the “nicos chicken pasta” and it was lovely, and we shared the garlic and cheese calazone as a side which was AMAZING! For dessert I had tiramisu which I think was the best I’ve ever had. Was Devine! I asked who made it and the chef said it was his mothers traditional recipe. Absolute knock out pudding! The restaurant has family history, and you can feel that with the food, decor and chef. The chef actually came around the tables talking to diners which I thought was a lovely touch. Can’t believe we hadn’t already been here. If your looking for a tasty, good value, authentic Italian, then 100% try here!

Went out with a friend group for my birthday meal. Services was fabulous, we kept changing our minds but nothing was too much trouble for them. When the food came it was fresh, homemade and to be honest it was outstanding. Cheap drinks and delicious desserts. Will be going back again very soon! Thank you!

This was the first time I’ve eaten at Nico’s and it was excellent. I am vegetarian and gluten intolerant and that was mentioned when booking. The chef had tasty gluten free baguette and made me my own gluten vegetarian lasagne and it was amazing and off the menu. I could not believe how much effort was put in for my own requirements and I was so pleased. The service was also great and very reasonably priced. Although I am not coeliac I believe that they would be good with cross contamination also. Everything was fresh and very tasty- highly recommended.

1st Visit, very happy. Reservation was simple through FB messenger, service was top notch and a good selection of food. We were also able to take home some leftover pizza. High recommended hidden gem of Derby. Thanks

We went here to try it out after walking past a few times on our way into town. It's a nice little restaurant with a nice atmosphere, interesting tables and friendly (if somewhat nervous looking [1 young lad was quite new]) staff. No draught beers, but a couple of different lagers and an ale to choose from if you're not a wine drinker. The food was lovely. Came out quickly and really hot! The doughballs we shared as a starter; they were nice but quite a small portion. My wife had the veg lasagne, which we read in a review contained olives, but she enjoyed it. It looked like it was cooked in the pizza oven to finish it off authentically which was nice. I had a pizza, Nico's special, which again was nice. Swapped the olives for spinach no problem, my only tiny issue was that the base was a bit thicker than I'm used to, and because of the thickness seemed a bit stodgy in places where it hadn't quite cooked properly, but it's only dough so I wasn't too bothered! Plenty of toppings on it and it was nice and hot. The prices are reasonable for the food, and it makes a change not to go to a chain restaurant. I wouldn't make it my go to place, but for a change of scenery is a good little restaurant

We booked for a party of 12 at the end of October, having visited several times in the past, and were not disappointed - we had pre-ordered several different choices of starters and mains and these were served quickly and efficiently (apart from one which was soon rectified), and everyone enjoyed their meals. We hope to return, before too long.

I have eaten at many good Italian restaurants in England and in Europe. And Nicos is not one of those food is not of a standard you accept from an Italian restaurant the drinks are very expensive. They decor inside and out really needs updating and picking up on a review made early the toilets are not a nice place Sorry will not be visiting this restaurant again just might have been a bad day

Excellent food great service only criticism state of toilets but definitely will be coming back,lovely main course of beef stroganoff which my sister had as well which was rich in flavour,my wife had the Kiev calzone which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Went to Nico’s yesterday evening with my girlfriend. The atmosphere was nice but we weren’t impressed by the food. The garlic bread wasn’t really tasting of garlic and wasn’t toasted enough. My girlfriend had the Nico’s chicken with tagliatelle and she was happy with it. I had the chicken with chilli and garlic sauce but you could hardly taste the chilli or garlic. We then had tiramisu and toffee cheesecake. The cheesecake base was super soft and very salty. We didn’t eat it. The tiramisu was watery and tasteless. The Chef came to see us and asked if everything was alright. We explained the above and he said he will take on board all our comments as he wants to improve. He told us his mother was on holiday and she is the chef, he was covering. He offered to not put the desserts on the bill which we appreciated but we insisted to pay for one. We think we would give them another chance.

Went here tonight , 8 of us for my birthday . Really disappointed . My bushetta was fridge cold , obviously made prior to serving , my fahitas were so sad , chicken obviously cooked earlier then topped off wth tomatoe sauce etc . None of my party said there meal was good , spaghetti was small portions as was everything else . But I have to say I couldn't eat mine anyway though the waitress didn't ask why . One of our party was gluten free and her meal was was served to someone else and I had to ask where the gluten free meal was. The staff were indeifferent and if the female on duty had raised her eyes once more I would have to had said something . Only average food , no atmosphere , not one person there wanting you to enjoy the meal . So so so fed with this experience let alone the cost . I would recommend on my experience just don't go there I wish we had not .

Really looking forward to eating here as I had heard a lot of good things about it and I had booked a table for Saturday evening, only to turn up and the place to be closed with a small sign on the window to say it was closed for the evening. Even though my contact details were left no one had made contact to inform me of the closure, leaving us with no where to go with it being such a peak time and such short notice. Very disappointed.

All i can say to anyone booking this restaurant always have a plan b of another restaurant because Nico's is renound for cancelling table reservations at short notice.Begining of september I booked a table for four people and i gave week's notice and then 2 hours before we were due to be seated a voicemail was left to say die to unforseen circumstances we have to cancel your reservation for this evening and i tried to call the restrant back and the phone was just continous ringing.thankfully at short notice for we went to another restaurant ,this booking at Nicos was for a midweek so to this day not sure why the cancellation but we passed there on the way to the other restaurant and it was barely full at the time we would have been sat, so just be warned and we will not be booking with them again

Really good food, excellent service and reasonable prices. For parking use Vernon Street, just over the road and free after 6pm.

Bland food...lacking atmosphere...veg lasagne contained olives which I dislike and wasn't informed of even though I asked what veg it contained..no refund given when I mentioned it and returned the dish 1/4 consumed....fillet steak was fatty and didn't live up to its price...waste of money !

Came in tonight with family for our first visit and were so happy with everything. Had three courses and every one was amazing, and as a vegetarian i had so many options to choose from! Amazing service from Jenny and will definitely be back soon, loved it.

Nico's is a lovely little restaurant, with a really nice atmosphere that offers great value food that is also very good quality. The restaurant itself is small, maybe 7 or 8 tables, so it might be a good idea to book in advance for a larger group at the weekend. The food is mainly Italian (pizza and pasta) with a few mexican dishes on the menu. I would definitely recommend the calzone with extra Bolognese sauce. I was also impressed that they swapped out mushrooms for artichokes on my wife's pizza.
