Newport Arch Chinese Restaurant in Lincoln

Just had such a good takeaway this evening that I wanted to review the restaurant straight away. Really good quality food at a very reasonable price. The salt and pepper chicken is especially tasty and the prawn toast which was so fresh and had lots of whole prawns on top. Will definitely be ordering again!

We were given the wrong order - a genuine mistake? But after finding out we rang and asked for a refund; the order we had wasn’t anywhere close. The guys on the end of the line were unhelpful and refused to refund us. I’ve heard off others that this place is going downhill (brown, over-oily food) and this doesn’t help. We’ll avoid in the future.

Great service and exceptional food. We had a great time. Will definitely be going again (soon!) Only snag is finding a place to park nearby.

This is our local Chinese restaurant so thought we would treat ourselves after a busy week. Big mistake!... we booked a table, arrived before time but the service was so slow and several tables were served before us. Eventually they brought some rice...the waiter came along and said they were busy with takeaways so couldn't deliver the food to our table and it would be a wait before the main dishes arrived. I am sorry but surely the in house diners should take precedence over take away customers? We won't be returning in a hurry, another restaurant that has let us down.

I have eaten here at the restaurant twice but had a number of takeaways. The restaurant is lovely and a great experience and well worth the visit if bothered to put some proper clothes on and go out. I am however quite lazy and I love to be able to scoff my chinese in my Pjs. This place is definitely up there as the best in Lincoln. The service is always polite and mostly on time. There have been a few delays but mainly that was new years eve which I would have expected as it was so busy. The food is delicious whether at home or in the restaurant. The crispy shredded beef is amazing! And the duck pancakes are delicious. I would say price is as you would expect for a decent chinese restaurant and I will certainly be visiting again!

We’ve been going here for over ten years and never had a bad meal. We went here again tonight 08/02/2020 and again the food and service was impeccable. There’s always plenty of selection and the way were looked after was superb. We could not fault anything and will definitely be coming back. Best Chinese food in Lincoln by a long way.

I’ve been here for both takeaways and eating in the restaurant on many occasions and I would say that it’s definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Lincoln.

We like to visit evey time we stay in Lincoln. The staff remember us even though we may only visit every 2 to 3 months. The choice of Chinese, Thai based, Malay and many more is astounding. Something for everyones taste. The food is always excellent as is the service. A good range of drinks are available to order. Even if the restaraunt is quiet, which is not often, the kitchen is busy fullfilling take away orders. Booking is recommended at weekends. A very popular local place.

We eat here regularly and so that tells you how happy we are. The reason why it is not 5 Stars is the red wine is always served cold....nothing to do with the food!

Lots of choice and very tasty, went with friends. The atmosphere was a bit lacking due to not many people in there, but I am sure on a weekend night it would be bursting with diners!

Visited with a small group of friends and our first comment was how cold the restaurant was, not conducive to a pleasant experience. When the soup course arrived there were comments from the group of how bland and gelatinous it was, with several not even finishing their servings. The latter courses were tasteless and some of the dishes were just slimy in texture, not what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant! The final insult was the cost of the meal, definitely not worth half what we were being asked to pay, needless to say we will definitely not be back.

We ordered two different meals and a few sides. It all tastes the same. You couldn't tell the difference between one meal or other. I wont go back.

Bland and overpriced, all the dishes we had tasted the same and looked the same, disappointing. Local Chinese takeaway produces better food than this.

We just placed a £65 order and everything we ordered was tasteless, the ribs tasted as if they had been sprayed with some sort of chemical, the noodles and rice were tasteless, the curry sauce just tasted like corn flower. It really was a terrible meal, when you have been at work all week all you want to do is sit down at the table and enjoy lovely food and chat with your family, instead we have tasteless food that won’t even be going in the dogs bowl because I wouldn’t want my dog to go through that. Will never order food from here again

With the town crammed to the Rafters with Steampunks, we thought getting a restaurant table for 5 would be difficult. We had, therefore, decided on a takeaway and stepped in to order. On spying empty tables we enquired if we could have one. We could. From sitting down to settling up only took 30 minutes! We weren't rushed at all. We ordered and the food was out in about 5 minutes. 5 drinks 5 mains 2 rice Great food, good portion size, not greasy like many Chinese restaurants. Good service. We left full and happy. Thank you.

We had had a look around town during the day at the different places open on Sunday evenings and chose this place There were 2 other couples eating when w3 arrived and we chose Singapore noodles, Sichuan pork and sweet and sour pork. Being so quiet our meal was served in less than 10 minutes from ordering. It was hot and the services was good. My noodles were nice and the port was ok although the river of sweet and sour sauce did over power the pork so I punched the pork out if the sauce and let it drain a little. The tablecloths were spotless and well ironed and the staff were polite. It was less than £30 for the meal. Ok a Sunday night out.

Its all a bit jaded but it adds to the experience. The important thing is the food, which is fab ! Stick to bottled beer, the draft wasn't good but maybe just old stock.

We’ve used this place for years and have enjoyed many a good experience, however over the past months we noticed the service getting worse, our last week over the weekend saw us sat there for almost an hour without any sign of our starters arriving or any contact with staff. Eventually a cold chicken satay arrived. We the. Waiting a further 40 mins for our main course which was most enjoyable.

We enjoyed our meals here, good value at £12.90 for 3 courses.

We ate here in the evening with 2 more people. The service was very good. We were shown to our table which was a booth, this was the only negative in this review as it was very cramped. The food was excellent, we had duck rolls, wantons and prawn crackers. Our mains were 2 crispy duck, chicken sweet and sour and lemon chicken which we all enjoyed. It was reasonably priced. Would definitely eat there again but would like a free standing table.

Went on a busy Saturday night whilst staying in Lincoln for the night , we hadn’t booked (I know). They made room for us in a very busy restaurant, service was fast and very friendly. Food was the best I’ve had in a long time from a Chinise restaurant, and the menu choice was huge !!! It was more like a novel. Honestly I cannot understand the bad reviews for this place ? The food was great , service for a very busy Saturday was superb and the bill was surprisingly.....cheap....no not the right word.......low considering the amount of drinks we had . We are going to book next time and drive 30 miles to eat there again. Doesn’t happen many times with my reviews but the full 5* and some.

The second time we have been and the experience was just as good as the first. Politely dealt with and efficiently served.. I recommend the Garlic mushroom starter and the sizzling beef with black bean sauce. Very well priced. If you are a big person, you will have difficulty getting in and out of the seats around the edge of the restaurant.

On a recent visit to Lincoln we booked a table at Newport Arch and we were not disappointed. The decor is tasteful. Great choice of dishes and the food we chose was well presented and very tasty, exactly as described on the menu. The service was excellent and the staff were polite and friendly and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Always have good service and great food. Menu choice is good, sometimes a little packed but generally comfortable.

Booked a table for Saturday night, there was a queue waiting for takeaways when we arrived, which was a good sign.

4 of us visited for a meal. We were sat down to a wide range of choices which can sometimes be overwhelming. The food is slightly expensive and when plated doesn’t look particularly special BUT it tastes incredible I often have Chinese and this hands down is the best. I would also make a comment that it can be very quiet in there which can be difficult when having to whisper to stop sounding like you’re shouting. Nothing some background music won’t sort. Also the booths around the side of the restaurant are rather small. Would recommend for the food!!

Went with some friends for our first visit here.

We chose The Newport Arch as a place to eat and celebrate our anniversary. Unlike others we had seen, the seating was set out with customers comfort & privacy whilst dining. Unlike the usual bench like setting where it’s quite likely that conversation needs to be shared with a neighbour.

Been for a meal today and food was superb as usual and service was great would recommend to anyone. I have been going here for 20 years and never had a bad meal

I'd eaten in the restaurant during a visit last year and had enjoyed. This time I ordered a takeaway which, by the time I got back to my hotel room, I realised they had given me beef not duck which I had ordered. The dish itself - with green peppers in black bean sauce was not particularly tasty. A pancake roll was ok, too many beansprouts for my taste. Free prawn crackers.

We have been coming to Lincoln for a few years now and always get a takeaway from this restaurant but I'm afraid we will not be using again. We had a chicken curry, chips and egg fried rice. The chicken was small rounded lumps of processed fat that was completely tasteless and should not be described as chicken. Food once was great but now very poor.

Awful rude service. Was made to feel that an issue of theirs was my own fault. I will not be returning, which is a shame because I quite enjoyed the food but, not enough to be treated so poorly. Thanks but no thanks.

A decade or maybe just less, there was no other place to order Chinese food in Lincoln. We notice the quality drop about 5 years ago and stopped coming entirely - favouring the Phoenix instead. On a whim, we decided to return and to our surprise, the food was stunning. Maybe not reaching the heights of the past, but maybe it never will.

Went for our meal tonight and were very disappointed at the very lengthy delay between courses!! Starter came out without too much delay, but then we waited an hour and half for our main course, it seems the takeaway service took presidence over the restaurant customers!! we were on the verge of leaving when finally it came out!! Needless to say we will not be returning anytime soon!

This place was recommended to me by a friend who has been visiting for years. Overall the service and food was excellent. The food arrived to the table in a good amount of time and it was delicious - quite possibly one of the best Chinese meals I have ever had.

Ordered sweet n sour chicken , couldn't find much chicken and the few pieces I did were dry and over cooked , looked like it had been reheated . Couldn't eat it , waste of money , won't be returning .

The food was very good from here and the only slightly disappointment is the the portions were on the small side. Service was great and very quick in getting the food out and they were very friendly. I thought the decor was above average for a Chinese with the tall ceilings..

Had a takeaway from here tonight with my other half and another couple, bit of a treat so we splashed out more than usual on a take away, about £90, all the food was bland, tasted of fake food enhancing ingredients, nothing authentic about it, all the meat was fatty and pumped full of water, very much like a bag of farm foods budget meat, champagne prices for a tap water performance, the fried rice was so sweet I couldn’t eat it and made me feel sick, dreadful is and understatement, would avoid and recommend the Sunflower on Burton road, just 5 minutes walk away, this was money wasted and absolute garbage!! Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!

We came to Lincoln and found our bnb the wrong side of the town centre . We had to go down Steep hill to access any shops or restaurants. But we found this amazing Chinese just across the road . We had the set menu for two people set meal A costing £17.95 each which includes desert and coffee. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The food was really good and tasty and came out quite quickly we didn’t have to wait long between the courses . We got spare ribs to start . Special fried rice sweet and sour Cantonese style, beef and green pepper in black bean , and chop suey . It was just enough to share you wasn’t too stuffed . It’s a lovely place and was busy as soon as it opened at 5 pm .

The food was very good and arrived at the table very quickly. It was very slow at the time we went to eat, but it picked up by the time we left. The food was well cooked and did not have that Chinese for the English taste!

Although we had noticed this Chinese place many times in the past whilst in the Bailgate area of Lincoln, we had never been tempted to dine there. From the outside it looks a bit depressing, especially in the gloom of a winter's evening dark but eventually decided to "bite the bullet" and have a meal there after discovering that it was No.2 Chinese in the area.

Very good Chinese food and I will return. May need to book in advance as can get busy at popular times. Would recommend.

Ordered a set meal as I was passing, the wait was lengthy, staff more interested talking to each other, but once I had my order and walked home,(no delivery) I had to use my microwave as on the 5 minute walk it had become stone cold

My husband and I were spending two nights in Lincoln and a friend had recommended the Newport Arch Chinese restaurant where we headed on the first night. We chose a chow mien dish each and my husband had the house special requesting soft noodles, he rated this as one of the best special chow mien he’s ever had. We returned the second evening for their early bird menu, three courses for £12.95. We both had chicken and sweet corn soup, my husband chose the house special chow mien again and I had sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. Although my husbands meal was still tasty possibly as it was on the early bird menu it wasn’t in a sauce and there were no king prawns as there had been on the previous evening which was fair enough as we were not paying as much. We finished with banana fritters which were delicious. If you’re on a budget ask for the early bird menu between 5-7pm Sunday to Thursday. If not you won’t be disappointed with the food quality. The staff were attentive and on both evenings it was pretty quiet but they obviously do a good trade on their takeaways.

I have just returned from dining at this restaurant, which I haven't visited for about two years. Several ex-work colleagues arranged to meet up here as it is central for most of us and parking is easy in the early evening, in fact, we got parked right outside.

Eight of us enjoyed a selection of Chinese dishes (set meal for ten!) on a Thursday evening. Good food and good service. We'll be back I'm sure.

A very pleasant chinese restaurant close to the Cathedral Quarter. Extensive menu. Food very good and moderately priced. Decor a bit tired especially the furniture. The gents toilets were a bit of a shock; just a urinal, a towel (no hand dryer) and no soap....

The food here is definitely one of the best of Cantonese food I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is romantic and warm with a beautiful red rose on every table and the service is good. Good range of dishes and drinks on the menu. Also, a very nice location. However, the prices are slightly high.

Our aunt and uncle took as to this restaurant as previous customers. It was a very busy evening but that did not impact the quality of food or service at all. A set menu for four of us was delicious, prompt, varied and beautifully served with a hot beverage included at the end. Very comfortable environment and welcoming staff. Highly recommend.

We have now visited around 3 times whilst visiting from Essex. Fab restaurant, lovely food and nothing too much trouble for the friendly staff. They even managed to fit us in on Christmas Eve without a booking. Highly recommended.

I’ve eaten here many times and the takeaway is also good - parking can be a bit tricky. Within minutes walk from the cathedral and right at the Newport arch.

Fantastic find! Forgive the title of my review but the front of house guy Wai will have a giggle like he did when he asked if our food was OK. Visited on 8th December after visiting the xmas market. Couldn't have been better. Quality of food, value for money, service (thanks again Wai!) and friendly welcome. Perfect!

food hot and tasty - quick decision to eat out and our normal restaurant closed we called in to see if a table was free - very please we did - service brilliant, service efficient and food very tasty.

Not really been to many Chinese restaurants so unsure if it would be good. Food was exceptional, taste of all the dishes were fantastic. 5 of us, starter to share between us, 4 main dishes with rice and chow mien and Plenty of drinks for £110. Very impressed

We have both dined in, and enjoyed many take-aways over the last fourteen years, from this EXCELLENT Chinese restaurant. The curry dishes are delicious, and everything is so fresh and bursting with flavour I can, in fact, recommend everything on the menu, and the staff are so pleasant and friendly!

We went for 2 takeaways as we had a cottage and this is one of the best Chinese food places n the UK. Seriously good. Wei the owner/manager has a dry sense of humour and whilst the restaurant looked to have little atmosphere due to a lack of people in , the food really was excellent. Obviously if we went back twice in 3 days stay in Lincoln

We called in for a family take-away and were very pleased with the food and service. We ordered at the counter and were (eventually) ushered in so we could order drinks whilst we waited.The food was brought out really quickly and thoughtfully was in a box to help us get it home - a nice touch. We enjoyed all the dishes and will not hesitate to use the Newport Arch Chinese again!

I've tried a number of take away Chinese in Lincoln and this is by far the best. I use their website to browse the menu and find it easy to navigate. Then call to place my order. They always ask me when I would like it to be ready for and often will prepare it within 10 minutes. It has always been ready on time.Food is to a high standard. It all appears pretty natural too. I often order the crispy chilli shredded beef and it is not bright red as it often is at other takeaways!I've always found the service to be friendly and never had any issues.I'd highly recommend ordering your take away from them. The only down side is that they don't (at the time of writing) offer a delivery service. Luckily it is on my way home from work so is not much of an issue.

We ordered the Chef's special meal for two. We started with the soup with tender strips of chicken, followed by spare ribs - perfectly cooked and so tasty. The main meal was absolutely delicious. I have not tasted a better Chinese meal and I have tasted a few!Staff and service could not be faulted. All in all a very enjoyable experience all round.

Four of us ate here and we took advantage of the restaurant special. At £12.90 for a three course meal it is superb value. The restaurant is well set out with a high quality finish. The staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout the meal. The food was excellent and plentiful. I cannot fault this high class establishment and I will certainly return again.

I always make a trip to Newport Arch and have done for many years as I have family in the area. Food is always excellent, fresh and delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff are great and accommodating. Will definitely be in again when visiting Lincoln.

Good food, fast service, friendly, good venue for a small to medium party. Menu has plenty of choice and prices are OK.

Visited here on a Monday evening so not many people in. The new staff were being trained and were very polite and efficient. The food was extremely tasty and freshly cooked. Well worth a visit.

went here with some friends from work. we were warmly welcomed as we arrived and showed to our seats. we each ordered some food which was hot on arrival and tasted amazing. the rice portions were very small but the main dishes were a good size portion..i would definatly reccomend here and will return myself

I went yesterday evening with my family and had a very enjoyable evening. The service was prompt and the food arrived quite quickly, considering the restaurant was busy.The staff were attentive to our needs and explained about the different meals that were available. The food was hot and tasty and kept warm with the use of hot plates on each table.All in all, a great evening, my family enjoyed the experience, a very good restaurant with friendly staff and good food.

Being Chinese myself, I can say this restaurant dishes are all authentic. Delicious. The service has never let us down either. I definitely recommend coming here.

I have visited Newport Arch this evening with my sisters and the whole experience was outstanding. I regularly eat out in Lincoln with my family, and this smart restaurant in theBail never fails to deliver the very best food. We were attended to very quickly and within seconds of ordering a drink they were in front of us. The starters took literally minutes to arrive and were delicious. We were then served generous portions of delicious Chinese food for the main course, which included Chow Mein, sweet and sour chicken, Pork with mushrooms, and rice. This place is just on a different level and I am looking forward to eating there again very soon. I have not eaten anywhere better than this superb restaurant which sits right on the edge of historical Lincoln Bailgate.My final point is that the price was incredibly reasonable for such a great meal.

Awesome authentic food and really friendly, attentive service. Nice clean dining area. The menu was clear to read and we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Lincoln.

Eat here regularly and enjoy many of the different items on the menu - my personal favourites are the Steak Cantonese Style and Chicken in Peking Sauce. The portions are very generous and well presented, an excellent option for big groups! Service is extremely good with the staff being very attentive and ensuring you have a good dining experience. I was also given a tour of the kitchen, being a regular, and it was very clean and well maintained - I've never had an issue with any of the quality of the food!
