I’m not normally one to leave reviews, but this was GORGEOUS! We were going to go to a usual chain restaurant but thought we’d try somewhere authentic and independent, and I’m so glad we did- I had Chinese while my husband had Japanese, and our toddler had both (firstly, very accommodating for letting us do that). The Chinese was just unreal- I’ve tried many across the county and it was the best I’ve had. The duck in plum sauce was amazing and the egg fried rice was a highlight actually, such a staple has left me thinking about it several days later🥲 all the staff were so kind and friendly to a pair of very anxious diners and a grumpy/sleepy toddler (even bringing him a special little complimentary dish without us having to ask) and I’m very glad I’ll be studying in Lincoln and able to regularly support them. It’s such a big space too! I had no idea, a real hidden gem and I’ll be encouraging everyone I know to give it a try.

Sadly I have visited this restaurant a few times. The previous time I ordered the KingPrawn Curry with fried rice. There was so much salt added to the curry it was horrible. So tonight I thought I would give it another chance but obviously not the prawn curry. Instead I ordered the King Prawns in satay sauce. On arriving home I could not believe it the chef/cook had added chillies it was so hot I could only eat the prawns. I ask why does this cook/chef cook what he wants and not the customers as on the menu. There was no mention of chillies on the menu. I telephoned to complain but no one answered my call. I will be interested if I receive a reply to my review. Get a proper Chef.

I was last here in 2019 when it was an excellent Chinese restaurant. Not it is Japanese and called Royal China. They charge £29.99 for"all you can eat".So there are no prices on the menu. I ordered 4 items. For some reason main dishes were brought up before the soup so I had to take them away. The deep fried octopus were tasteless apart from the unidentified sauce. The won ton soup was too peppery. The chicken gyoza were ok.However the udon noodles with seafood was awful.2 prawns,2 mussels and 2 pieces of squid.A rip off. Then they made a mistake on the bill.Sparkling water was changed at £4.40 instead of £3.So the bill had to be corrected. A poor experience which I will not repeat.

Great food fantastic service and amazing value for money. We will definitely return when we are next in Lincoln. It’s a large restaurant and it could do with something to make it more cosy! to much floor space…. When we went it was not busy just a few tables were taken so no atmosphere.

First time visiting since Oct ‘23, what was China Hong back then is now Royal China. After a change of ownership, the restaurant has gone through a bit of a makeover, new decor, new lighting, the old heated tables have been replaced and new staff. They have also opened up an all you can eat Japanese Sushi restaurant next door. It’s certainly a lot brighter than it was before and that’s no bad thing. With all the recent changes, we was a bit apprehensive about how good the food was going to be, as we loved it previously. Thankfully the food was still as delicious and the service was still top notch. I don’t like Sushi, but my other half does, and even though we were in the Chinese side, they let her order some Sushi too, so win win all round for us. As to be expected, the prices are more than you would get from a takeaway, but still very reasonable, as the portion sizes are generous. The good thing is, what you can’t eat, you can take home in a few takeaway tubs, so you can still enjoy it at home the next day if you so wish. Highly recommend a visit here if you like a Chinese or even Sushi in a nice chilled out environment.

The waitress lied that the price of 15 courses for a party of 3 would cost £29.99, when the bill arrived they said we owed £29.99 per person. and that's already £29.99 for 15 dishes, that's £80. This is outright fraud. If they had told me this number at the beginning, I would never have stayed in this cafe. the food is very mediocre.

We visited the new incarnation of this restaurant Royal China. I’m particularly fond of barbecue/ roast meats. The crispy belly pork and roast duck are very good here. Everything we ordered was well cooked and tasty. The staff were really attentive and the prices fair. Slightly higher than the local Chinese takeaway shops in Lincoln but the offerings closer to Hong Kong style dishes.

Nice friendly helpful staff, and quick service. Food was good, although they got our order mixed up, but they sorted it out and recooked it quickly. Duck in plum sauce was standout dish. Salt and pepper squid was also very well done. Great prawn toast. Rice portions are large. We had 3 between 7 (two kids) which was sufficient. Was quiet so lacked a bit of atmosphere, but deserving of more trade.

We took our baby to visit this family-run restaurant a few weeks ago. In general it was not a negative experience but definitely an interesting one. The pros: reasonably priced, reasonably clean although we were given a dirty tea cup by mistake (it happens so we understand), the lady owner was very friendly and some food were pretty good (handmade dumplings and Singaporean udon). The cons: the male staff (I believe is the owner's son) was rude, not just to us but to other customers), the said staff also had an argument with the chef (who appears to be his dad) and they started yelling in the middle of the restaurant and the chef continued shouting in the kitchen and the kitchen doors were kept open so we could hear it. I mean I understand, parents and children argue sometimes, especially when working together, but maybe try to make it less public 😀 Also, some of the food were mediocre (hagau and yang chow fried rice). They don't have a baby changing table but there are some stores nearby such as M&S and House of Fraser that has one. Lastly, the service might take a bit long considering that it's a family-run restaurant, but they have a pretty decent view to make it up for. All in all, it was an ok experience but there are definitely some rooms for improvement 😊

Should really be 3 stars, as staff were a bit bizzar at best. As we entered mid week, mid evening, the entire restaurant was empty, we (x4) were the only ones (customers) in there, all eevning & we got asked if we had a reservation?! 1. Why would we need a reservation if every table was empty & available. 2. If they look in their diary, they would know no bookings. Also one member of staff sat at a table close by & just stared at us. BUT the food was fantastic & that alone deserves 5 stars!

I was recommended this restaurant when I asked my daughter, who lives in Lincoln, where is the best place to eat? This was top of her list and I was sceptical. I really shouldn't have been. We had a choice of where to go for our child free evening. Our 10 year wedding anniversary and My birthday. This restaurant did NOT disappoint. We started with the aromatic crispy duck. Goodness me, the flavour!! Cooked to complete perfection!! 2nd course crispy beef, special king prawn curry and Efr, sweet and sour chicken balls and a side of salt and pepper chips. Now We’ve had our selection of Chinese’s. But we can honestly say the food we had on this evening was the BEST Chinese we’ve ever had enter our mouths. The service was second to non , topping our drinks up as soon as we’d finished the last sip. A wonderful night with fantastic food and service. Ordered a meal for my parents for Valentine’s night, through Uber Eats. After a follow up call to the restaurant it arrived over an hour late. My mum told me a few days later that it was awful. She texted and said:Chinese meal, prawn crackers ok, 2 small spring rolls, no duck. 1 and a half crispy Wantons. Chicken skewers, hard dry chicken, floating in yellow lumpy oily sauce. Spare ribs, dry, smelled off. Seaweed, full of sugar. Egg fried rice overcooked. Beef in black bean sauce, sloppy bits of curled up beef? tasteless. Few bits of red pepper and dark slimy sauce. Chicken in ginger and spring onions, lumps of boiled jelly like tasteless chicken, few bits of spring onion, all floating in yellow lumpy oily sauce, no taste of ginger. Almost everything cold , some luke warm and 1 and half hours late. Feedback given to China Hong through Uber Eats app.

We booked in here for an evening meal for three but when we got there we were told the call taker had booked in two people. I honestly wish we had been turned away as we would have been spared the service which was so bad that would give Fawlty Towers a run for its money. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I wish I had been prepared. In Covid times, you have to be so careful where you eat. Our table was given a wipe before we sat but there were no condiments left behind. We sat for 30 minutes waiting for someone to take a drink order and eventually my husband asked one of the staff as we were conscious that we had to be out by ten and it was coming up to 8pm. The girl said 'yes' then promptly went back to cleaning tables. I don't think she understood us as after 40 minutes we were still waiting and staff were serving people who came in after us. My husband had to ask again. When the waiter came holding my glass of G&T, I had to laugh. I can manage without ice (as there was none included) but he was holding the rim with his thumb INSIDE the glass and his fingers on the lip. Same for my husband's drink, he was touching the rim. It was OK with my daughter's cider as he just gave her the bottle - no glass, lol!! Luckily, I had a pack of anti bacterial wipes in my bag and I gave the glass a rub. It could have been easily solved if he'd just used a tray. Nobody asked if we wanted any drinks after that so it didn't happen again. The menu had some very authentic dishes but not our usual fare with dishes like frog's legs and pig's end -eek! Thankfully the usual curry dishes were available too.The food was nice when it came but we didn't have any knives or forks - not even chopsticks on the table, no serviettes, nothing. We asked for knives and forks but like before, they said 'yes' and carried on cleaning. Again, I laughed and we ended up using the ladles in the curry to eat with. It was comical, watching my daughter try to chop up her chicken with a huge ladle spoon and staff not caring or noticing. Nobody came near our table and after waiting for ages, we got up and paid for the bill on our way out. The food was nice, not the best I've had but OK, which has earned the three stars. If you'd like to know what it's like to visit a Chinese Fawlty Towers then I highly recommend this place. As for me, once was enough and I won't be back.

We found the staff to be helpful, all our dishes were correct, came out promptly and were really tasty. Re Covid measures, as others have said there were no temperature checks but we did not find this at any other eating establishments either so this was not unusual and on the evening we visited people did not appear to be ‘on top of each other’. I can honestly say I enjoyed this meal more than the one the previous evening at Marco Pierre White’s and at a fraction of the price!

Been coming here for years and always had great food and service until now post lockdown CV19.No effort made on the hygiene side, no sanitiser or temp check on entry, in fact girl on the bar just looked us up and down and walked off leaving us hanging there.Seemed to be a communication issue all the way through the meal.Tables not spaced 2 metres, no effort trying to spread people out even with such a large restaurant.Service lacked attention to detail, slow wait for food. Also a table of 2 drunk men let in and sat next to my 9 year daughter using savoury language. Table near ya walked out, we left soon after.Food was good but does no way make up for the lack of CV19 effort and customer security and slow service service is just poor.We won’t be back after all these years !

Visited this restaurant on Monday the 24th of August sat at a table by the window , on the windowsill there was a tray with a bamboo plant in a vase filled with water that was being filled by the condensing pipe coming down from the air conditioning unit. We waited for the table to be cleaned and sat down and ordered drinks the restaurant was quite busy and we ordered our food. We waited for at least half an hour for our starters only for the wrong items to be brought out because we were so hungry we decided to accept the wrong order it was the I looked to my right and there in the tray on the window sill drowned was a cockroach. I immediately brought this to my husbands attention got a waitress and brought her over so she could see this her self. We then paid for our drinks and the starter and left . I really feel People should be made aware of our experience we certainly would not go there again.

We went for the set menu as the rest of the menu was too extensive with things like frogs legs, brisket and chicken feet. The starter came out within 15 minutes of ordering which was very nice and the lady came and gave us warm plates for our main but it didn't come for another hour and another hour for the final course. It's hard to get the waitresses attention as it seemed many people were waiting and getting frustrated apart from the larger groups which were waited on hand and foot. Two and a half hours we were in there for which is excessive, I would bare this in mind if you come here as you may need a pillow. Although, the food was very good and I would recommend the food just not the service.

I had been here twice before this year, they had a gluten free menu and I had no reaction to the food. We went back last night because it was so good and we go whenever we go to Lincoln. When we got there we asked out waitress for the gluten free menu, she had no idea what I meant. We then asked 3 other staff, they all didn’t know either. Then a different waitress came to the table so we asked her, she went straight to where the menus had been but they were no longer there. We assumed it was new management so asked and they said it’s the same management and that they had never had a gluten free menu in that restaurant. As I said at the start we know for a fact that they did. It seems they’ve got rid of their gluten free menu. It was all very odd, we left as I could no longer trust them to eat there as eating gluten would make me violently sick. If you are GLUTEN FREE please be aware of this restaurants lack of knowledge.

We dined here as a group of three during the “dine out to help out” situation. On arrival, we took the lift up to the restaurant. We were greeted straight away and seated quickly. Our drinks order was taken and we were given time to look at what we were ordering. We were sat fairly close to the entrance which meant we could smell cigarette smoke drifting up from the floor below. Not very present. Our drinks and starters arrived quickly but we waited ages for our mains. We were never offered plates for our mains (as we were all sharing and we made the waiter aware of this at the start) It was a warm day and not once were we offered another drink, in fact, other diners were standing up and waving the waiters down just to get a drink. The food was hot and cooked fine. It was tasty and big portions so the food was good. I just wish the service matched the food. The staff in the restaurant kept bringing new diners past our table, meaning we were always in close proximity to other people. Social distancing isn’t observed here. I’m glad the food was good, just need to scrub up on some service issues.

We were waiting for drinks 45 mins... later when we ordered food we get soups completly different to what we ordered.. and at the end our waitress was unsure what our main courses was... Lucikly lady from kitchen sorted us definetly better and faster than all 4 waitresses who works there. One lady didnt really speak English and she didnt even know what i was asking for.. Sorry but never again comming back.

Welcoming atmosphere despite being empty (Covid)! There was another couple were dining when we arrived, but they were just finishing and left. We ordered Shangai Combo platter, Char Siu buns, and Har Gau dumplings for our starter. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. For our main course we had sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style and pork S/S. House Special rice and Char Siu pork fried rice. Again beautifully presented and especially tasty. We asked for boxes to take with us as there was plenty left. Would highly recommend for a peaceful lunchtime. We have had delivery from here from Just Eat and it was hot and tasty with just as much care taken. Would highly recommend a visit or takeaway.

Had a meal at this restaurant and was extremely disappointed by the service and the hidden costs.I would normally go into detail and rate every aspect of my evening out at a restaurant but this establishment doesn't deserve any further comments apart from the fact the lady owner does understand English perfectly well and there should be no need for misinterpretation /and or miscommunication when it comes to dialogue. She knows exactly what she did. In conclusion an expensive meal for what should have been relatively cheap.

I ordered (Deliveroo) sweet and sour chicken balls, now I know that you don’t expect the best quality of meat from a takeaway but this was the most disgusting chicken EVER!! It was basically deep fried balls of fat, with a sauce that might as well of been JUST sour sauce. This is not the first time I’ve order from here and been very dissatisfied with the meat. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!

We went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday and wish we hadn't bothered! As soon as we arrived the customer service was poor! They sat us at a table, but immediately cleared the chopsticks and gave us spoons, I can use chopsticks, but they just assumed we couldn't, not the end of the world, but insulting! Few issues ordering, as they were not willing to give us chips instead of more expensive fried rice or swap beef for chicken, but the food we ordered came relatively quickly! I ordered Kung Po chicken, which was nice, but my wife ordered beef curry and the meet was vile, extremely chewy and very fatty, yuk! I asked for the bill when they took the food away, just so we had it, but then they kept badgering me to pay it, embarrassing, and then one person came over and barked loudly " YOU PAY CASH" I said yes and we promptly paid and left never to darken their doors again, I would say give this place a miss!

Visited here after a trip to the Cinema just round the corner. The staff were exemplary and the food the was the best proper chinese i've had, and I have had meny in my 60+ years . Nocks spots of the normal takeaway fare. also noticed it seemed popular with chinese students.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on a recent visit to Lincoln, starter was awful and main course was worse. Looked and tasted like overcooked microwave meal and tasteless. 60 pounds paid and and ate hardly anything of either course. We will never set foot in the place again. Sorry 😞

People say to me that a "Chinese is a Chinese"...well sorry the China Hong. Brayford Wharf North, Lincoln is no ordinary Chinese... voted 2 in Lincoln's top 10 does not surprise me...the food is hot, nothing is oily and is truly scrumptious ...if I lived in Lincoln I would be dining there at least once a week...so looking forward to my next visit.

Just had such a good takeaway this evening that I wanted to review the restaurant straight away. Really good quality food at a very reasonable price. The salt and pepper chicken is especially tasty and the prawn toast which was so fresh and had lots of whole prawns on top. Will definitely be ordering again!
