The food in the cafe is good quality and reasonably priced. Nice cake choice too. They need to re think how they serve customers, every time we visit it takes ages to be served as there is usually one person sorting the order/payment cakes and drinks which takes a while. At busy times you can be queuing for a while. The outdoor seating area needs some tlc, tables need a deep clean, the area just looks scruffy and uncared for. Staff need to remove customers plates outside as the birds ( magpies, pigeons) are soon on the tables when they leave. The place could be really good if the management sorted these minor issues out.

Not been here for well over a year because as a vegan they couldn’t accommodate me. Would you believe they still don’t do anything. What a waste. I ended up with a very flat crumpet and margarine for my bank holiday lunch. It’s not like it’s hard to make a vegan scone. Come on get with it.

Last time we will visit - service and staff have gone rapidly down hill. Went for breakfast on sunday morning and got there 10 minutes too early as had mis read the opening times. We went to look at a menu and a lady with purple hair came out from behind the counter and just said in a short abrupt manner. We are not open until 10 and walked off after giving a look of disapproval. I advised we would look around the garden centre but she had already started to walk off and ignored me. We continued to look around and came back at 10.10 along with another family and two other elderly couples with grandchildren. We took a table and had to brush the seats off as cake pieces were on 3 of the 4 chairs. We went to the counter to order and the lady with purple hair from ealier called another young lady and said will you sort THIS out as referring to me and advised she was busy. Very rude women who looked deschevaled with hair not brushed and apron that had so many stains all over. The young lady took my order and i advised. I asked if they had almond milk as my daughter has an interolerance and i was asked why. I thought this was really strange to ask someone why i wanted a specific milk but advised of an intolerance, and she just shrugged her shoulders. She then went to prepare drinks and asked me do i want my coffee in a beaker, i asked confused sorry as did not know why i would want a coffee in a beaker and she just pointed to the mugs on top of the coffee machine. So a mug is what she meant not a beaker. I just advised yes, please. And then went to get milk and said at this stage she did not have any almond milk and offered something else which was frustrating as would have changed my drink if know this from the start. I then went and sat down and waited 25 mins for 2 toasted teacakes and 1 scrambled egg on toast. Whilst waiting i could see 1 girl preparing food at the side of the counter and was eating a packet of cheese crips and then folded the bag over and licked her fingers and wiped her hands over her aprin. So unsanitary. Another lady was chewing her gum so passionately whilst serving. Then a guy came in with his coat on and aprin underneath and took his coat off and started eating bits of the food on the side with his fingers. The lady from earlier with the purple hair then could see i was looking and talked to the guy with the coat on and pointed over to us and laughed and he then came from behind the counter and walked past us crayning to look at us with a sarcastix smirk. We then saw the girl who had licked her fingers then bring our food over with her un gloved hands on our plates and just put the scrambled eggdown without asking whos it was. 3 to 4 mins later our barely cooked cold teackes came out as was so cold the butter just sat thick on top. Was all crushed and falling to bits. My daughter tried her eggs and toast, and the toast was stone called along with the egg and feel that had been.sat waiting for some time. Had some partial salad that had gone off cucumer that had turned to mush. I used to come here at least twice a month for lunch and breakfast and also.to the garden centre but have loast me and my family now as customers as such rude unclean experience that never used to be like this

Been here a few times and the staff are okay but the food has gotten a lot worse. I was promised a "generous salad" and got a ball of dried up mush with no dressing, not even a tomato. Very expensive at £7.25 for a baked spud. Coffee tastes like it's out of a vending machine. Would not recommend.

I'm afraid i have to leave a negative review, the lady who i presume may be a manager told me not to use the gate to collect my order of bark chippings, previously when collecting a large amount i was told to reverse in through the gate, her attitude towards me was very arrogant and rude and disrespectful and Iwas quite upset by her.

Really disappointed with the customer service in Dobcross and will not return again. My friend and I are regular customers as we live / work nearby. I visit most Mondays with my mum for lunch and friend is in 2 or 3 times a week We popped in after work as we wanted to buy a substantial amount of flowers for an event. It was just before 4 and we wanted a drink first. We went to the cafe and there was a queue of about 8 people waiting to order The man in the cafe told just us 2 that they were closed. What about all the people in front who still hadn't been served? They were not turned away. We only wanted a soft drink. We enquired at the till and the woman, who I think is in charge was rude in her tone, and said abruptly, yes, they close at 4. We didn't make the purchase of plants we intended and will not return again. This is because the staff made us feel like unvalued customers. Our custom will go elsewhere.

Went for lunch on Saturday afternoon. Arrived at about 1.15 and queued ages as only 1 girl serving whilst a lot of the other staff had their lunch in the cafe whist customers were waiting. Used to be a nice cafe but not anymore. Floor dirty with bits of food. We ordered quiche and jacket potatoes but the jacket potatoes were awful. Obviously been cooked beforehand and left standing for I don’t know how many days. The potatoes were cold and we sent them back and they brought the same potatoes back out and had just microwaved them. The potato inside were hard. The worst jacket potato I have ever had. Staff are sullen and seem like they can’t be bothered. Need to get their act together - avoid this place until they do!

The boys toilet is clogged and really dirty. If you go at lunchtime, then some tables are only closed of because they close at 4 o clock. The line for the cakes was really long and they only had 3 staff. Just straight up disappointing. My mum payed 10 pounds for a plant burger and frozen chips. The chips and bread were disgusting in her words.

The eating area floor was absolutely filthy with food debris everywhere and the tables were littered with past customers crockery. Two members of the kitchen staff were seen idly chatting to friends and one with her hands in her pockets. Therefore, there was absolutely no excuse for the dirty eating environment. Also my partner who ordered the food had to remind the staff member that she hadn’t been given her change from the food that she had ordered. Most definitely they need to get their act together and someone needs to take charge. Overall a very disappointing and unpleasant eating experience

Just visited with my daughter and grandson for a walk round then coffee and a cake. The garden centre itself is very well stocked but the cafe service and cakes were terrible . We had 3 cakes and 2 were very dry and were definitely not fresh and the cheese cakes was very soggy . The young woman behind the counter were chatting to themselves and no eye contact or interaction with us at all . On the way out 3 women behind the shop counter didn't even look up when we smiled and said goodbye .

This is not a restaurant review but a review on the garden centre in general. I have visited this GC over many years as it is the nearest to home and if you find what you want yourself and go and pay for it thats fine but I have found it to be the most unfriendly unhelpful place going. However, Saturday the 25th Sepetember took the it too a whole lot lower level. I had two bags of compost on my trolley and went straight to the cash desk. I needed the fleece bags to cover my plants and did not want to push the trolley round so asked one of the two cashiers who were both on their mobile phones if they had them. One did not know what I was talking about and the other could not drag her eyes away from her mobile. So I had to ask one of them to go and find out if they had them. She found this incredulous that I had asked and sloped off to find someone. After some time she wandered back and said she could not find "her" whoever "her" was. I was in two minds whether to just leave the compost there and walk out but in the days of petrol shortage I paid vowing to myself not to go back . Come on Newbank get your customer service skills sorted out you may be in a picturesque place but its certainly not a warm friendly place.

Don't get me wrong this is a lovely garden centre but not so good for eating. It would seem they have too many styles of sandwiches and they don't know the difference. I ordered a 'danish open sandwich' with a side salad. When it arrived i basically had tuna on a soft roll with the drabby bit of side salad. When i asked if there was any salad dressing to try and whosh it up i got either mayo or salad cream! I do like a tuna sandwich but say it as it is. The picture below shows coleslaw on my plate but i had to take that from my hubby to try and make mine taste a bit better. It wasn't by any means a 'danish open sandwich' plus the cappuccino was awful, no froth whatsoever! Cakes looked good but i was so fed up with what I'd ordered i couldn't be bothered!

This is the worst website and services. I ordered a pargola for my garden. I was contacted a fews weeks later to arrange delivery day/date. Delivery never turned up. Contacted following day there was no apology wasn't able to speak directly to person that arranged delivery. In between 4 emails sent there were no responses. I was then told delivery would be before 9am on Monday. Item still didn't arrive I contacted them again staff are very dismissive and rude after waiting 20 minutes to get through. Finally item arrived following day after demanding for refund of £1,000. You have to wait a long time to get through on top of that staff are really rude, and have no customer service curtesy and no listening skills. This is a terrible garden centre to buy anything from on line and there reviews for buying directly from them is no better. They will never be recommended and customers need to go and look elsewhere. They are disgraceful and made me frustrated due to how I have been dealt with. STAY FAR FROM THIS GARDEN CENTRE.

We ordered a high tea that had a coffee or tea included. As soon as I'd paid and sat down almost, the drinks arrived. The food didn't arrive until 20 minutes later (all cold food so not sure what took 20 minutes to prepare) and by this time I had, not surprisingly, virtually finished my small cup of coffee and what was left in it was almost cold. When the waitress went past I asked very nicely if I might have another cup of coffee as I now had no drink to have with my meal. Sandwiches and cakes need to be washed down with something wet! The waitress was quite rude and told me I could buy another drink if I wanted one. The point I was making was that there had been so long between the drinks and food arriving that I felt it was a reasonable request. The waitress's attitude towards me was so rude! I felt like she was almost accusing me of trying to take advantage to get another coffee. The food was fine. The sandwiches were well filled and the scone was lovely but I won't go back again and be treated so shoddily. We had mixed feelings about the cafe. It seemed like they weren't expecting customers to sit outside although given that it was quite a sunny mid morning at a weekend, that would seem to be a little strange. I visited the garden centre today after work. I found the staff rude and extremely miserable. I myself work in a cafe and they need a lesson or two in customer service. To add to my bad experience the food is poor quality for the price. You can tell they use cheap ingredients which really ruins the taste of the food. Over all I'm really disappointed and will not be returning.

travelling northwards from Derbyshire we came across this cafe. It had excellent coffee and wonderful cake. They have a selection of about fifteen cakes - a hard choice! I would certainly recommend this cafe.

Food is not good enough for the price. Beef sandwich with piles of horseradish made me feel ill. A tiny piece of sundried tomato on Brie sandwich at Royton which was a disappointment. Staff snotty about my toddler playing with the sugar and the guy who works at royton is miserable and needs some training at how to be nice.

I usually visit about once a month. Last week, I visited on a Sunday afternoon at c 3pm. The queue was vast, and although many of the outside tables were taken, the inside cafe area was almost empty. It took 25 minutes to get served and we almost gave up waiting. There were what seemed to be 2 young school girls working their socks off behind the counter, but they needed more help, as making cappuccinos in particular was taking too much time. Many tables outside were piled up with empty trays and pots. A bloke appeared occasionally and went round wiping the tables, which involved brushing all the crumbs onto the cafe floor, not collecting them and disposing of them and as a result, the floor was a mess of sticky, squashed cake crumbs. Disgusting. The choice of cakes was, as usual, vast but most were tray bakes or tea breads and there was little in the way of cream cakes on offer. Cappuccinos were disappointing and lacking froth. They need more staff at busy times such as weekends.

Can be a nightmare parking on really busy days. Reasonably sized outdoor area with plants, trees, bushes etc on sale. Extensive indoor shopping areas, household goods as well as garden. Good selection of Xmas decorations in season. Nice cafe with homemade cakes etc

After a visit round the garden centre we decided to have lunch at the Bistro within the garden centre, it was very busy for a Tuesday lunch which we thought was a good sign, the place was clean and tidy and service quite efficient, I had a salad which was enormous and delicious but was rather to much for me to eat all of it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I noticed other diners meals and whatever you ordered you certainly got a plateful which proved very good value.

Not bad at all here. Like the cheese toasties and cakes and the coffees.Decent selection on the menu but can be a little busy on occasions, but suppose that's popularity!

We arrived for lunch and just managed to get the last table for 4. The meals are just snacks but we're well made and well presented. The puddings were huge but a little too expensive. The service was excellent and quick despite the large number of people placing orders. I would given this a higher rating if there was more space between the tables. You are unable to move without disturbing other diners. Perhaps they could look at investing in table which are a little narrower then all diners could eat in peace.

This review relates to my garden centre visit experience, not the restaurant facilities as these were not used. We will never return to this garden centre. Our experience was horrendous, despite purchasing a number of products. We feel that we were abused and treated in a very poor manner. Newbank garden centre effectively demonstrated how little they care about us as customers... and we will definitely not return or give them any further business.

Varied merchandise, not just plants. There were kitchen items of quality plus clothing and furniture. The plants were well maintained.

My friend and I cycled to this cafe for the cakes as they have a commendable selection of over 30 choices-However NONE are gluten free- hence my wife won't visit!COFFEE- forget it. They have a nice coffee machine however the nice old lady serving didn't even "tamp down" the grinds- meaning the Coffee came out as brown water without taste and I ended up leaving it. I visit here several times a year and should know better as Coffee is at best average. Great cakes- very poor Coffee! No gluten free options

We travel to this part of the country quite often to visit family, and we always come here to look at the plants and have a hot drink. We've eaten here as well, and there is a good choice of food.

We went mid week and found the displays just too over facing with just too much stock! I like to have choice but.. It looked cramped - with a maze like chaotic feel ! So much so I felt over faced and didn't want to explore any further. We visited the cafe and found the food delicious, my only criticism would be that you are literally sat on top of each each other and the next table is just way too close! You are crammed in which in turn I felt completely spoilt the visit.

A favourite garden centre for me and my family. Always get great products here at much more reasonable prices than other garden centres. Especially worth a visit at the Christmas time - brilliant displays! Excellent customer service from the team too :)

Well worth the run out to Saddleworth to buy plants from here. They are reasonably priced and of good quality, those I bought in the spring have all flourished and lasted very well. The Christmas displays are really lovely with a good variety of colours and designs. The gift department has a good selection of festive foods and fancy goods at prices suitable for all pockets. We always have tea and lovely cakes when we come here, the service is good and all in all makes a good day out.

Fabulous selection of goods for home and garden. The Bistro serves lovely food with good table service. Not too expensive either. Seems to be busy regardless of day or time. We didn't have to wait for a table in the Bistro but as we were leaving (lunchtime) people were queuing for one. Definitely go back.

The 'Cafe' is on the lower floor of the always busy and always lovely to wander around Newbank Garden centre! We visited on a Sunday afternoon just for a cup of tea but him indoors succumbed to an afternoon tea and I a lighter snack! The serving staff were very friendly and helpful when asked about specific items on the menu and the service prompt. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented on a stand of sandwiches (a selection of choices available) on the lower tier with accompanying salad and the upper tier a clotted cream tea oaf a scone, cream and jam! other hot meals are available as are and I enjoyed hot crumpets and butter! The surroundings are bright and cheerful and retro in style, a lovely location for you to treat yourself as we did!

Grace is a disGRACE. Won’t let us pay separately , will not also tell the selection of beverages on offer when the selected beverage we ordered was “not on” despite the tap still being displayed.

The King Bill is somewhere I have started going for a little break from the world most Wednesday nights we pop up for a few drinks to break up the working week. The company is great and it’s proper Pub with nice people. The Salt & pepper Chicken needs is own review and honestly it was “Well Fit”. It’s hard to sum up in works but it’s just a very good pub , run by lovely people, giving back to the community with great staff and food. Highly Recommended
