New Wing Lee in Wigan

After 25yrs of no complaints watsoever, the quality of food has gone downhill lately. Cantonese beef is nothing like it used to be, wrong colour, yellow instead of brown and with an overpowering curry flavour. Not even a hint of a Cantonese dish. Unfortunately, we have had issues with the standard of food consistently of late We will be rather reluctant to use New Wing Lee in future.

We love this chinese chippy been going for years now. The food is really good. I recommend you ring your order through then collect as the only negative things is they don't deliver

Absolutely disgusting food, rice stuck in blocks, chicken not fit for the dogs, chill beef, not chilli, not tasty little bit chewy. Been here when I lived very local was always good, don't know what has happened but it's terrible. Will never go back, avoid at a costs

Chicken curry , sauce ok chicken tough and tasteless worst chicken I've had for a long time threw it on the fire very disappointed have been going quite often but not any more I would guess they are buying bags of frozen cubes and adding to the curry

Fantastic food just the prawn crackers are too thick, should be thinner!!!! Everything is great apart from the prawn crackers. They would be much better being thinner!!

Ordered duck with aromatic pork which was absolutely disgusting. Big blobs of congealed fat in this disgusting goo. The pork was bits of dried something unrecognisable. We ordered chips with it which turned out to be 75% scratchings. I was glad we had a fire that night.

I have always praised the Wing Lee for the quality of the food but last night I had the worst meal I have eaten. The chips were white and really/ really greasy the sausage was dry and overcooked and the gravy was full of lumps sorry but you should know when its good and also when its bad

We got are chips and we found a long black hair in the chips we took them to them and they declined us so immediately we put them in the bin after they had mauled around with them .So terrible never will be going there again

But the curry was always excellent best ever not been for years but best Chinese food ever

We live in the appley bridge area and always found this chinease handy to go to and the food good.But recently it has gone down hill rapid and the guy behind the counter (owner) very unsociable not even an hello/goodbye. We will definatly not use this takeaway again ever.

Just reading the reviews, same old with reviews! cant please everyone, even if it was great someone would still moan thats what people do here, anyway fairly new to the area been a few times now and cant complain, good food, great staff, fast at serving even when busy with customers and phone ringing all the time, anyway I left a tip as good service, Im looking forward to trying other dishes. Food was ok, the order was wrong.

This used to be a nice takeaway and after giving it several chances after it being hit and miss, we've now decided it's dreadful. The food tastes greasy and fatty. The meat tastes cheap. The food is ready within 5 minutes so clearly nothing fresh. The only reason we used it more recently was because it was easy to park. Food is tasteless. Avoid!

Ordered a King Prawn Chow Mein, here’s the breakdown of what was in my king prawn chow mein.. King prawns - 6 Sliced Peppers - 2.. 2 slices… Noodles - 33% Spring onions - 20% Onions - 47% If I could post a photo, you’d see nearly half my plate was onions, I’d be surprised if there weren’t a full onion used just for my dinner only.. Sweet and sour chicken balls were tough and soggy, the chips looked pale and tasted like starch, and the chicken fried rice had no peas.

great place to go, we usually go to the park across the road then come here for dinner. brilliant staff and tasty food with generous portions! (id recomend their curry)

Chicken fu young with massive onions not the best, salt and pepper chicken ,wouldn't call it salt and pepper chicken . Few onions and peppers , also got my order wrong crispy chicken with freid rice but there was no freid rice. The yound lad there didn't look like he wanted be there looked new ,I'm not suprised either .

Terrible meal ribs and chips think the chips had been made 24 hrs earlier dreadfull the ribs no better full of gristle A Wont use again

Great food, with great portions

Not great I'm afraid. This was my go -to Chinese for years but recently it has gone down hill. I don't know if they've changed owners or chef or whatever but the food isn't a patch on what it used to be. They've also lost their 5* hygiene rating (is now a 3) which doesn't bode well. Might be better looking elsewhere.

Wife said it's best Chinese ever

Absolutely dreadful the duck was hardly cooked it was covered in horrible soft duck skin with a thin salty dreadful sauce ... the same with the chicken Chow mein absolutely the worst Chinese takeaway meal we have ever had , no taste whatsoever thin watery sauce no taste and the chicken really did need more cooking... going in the bin . Horrible .

Just had a takeaway from New Wing Lee in Appley Bridge. I've got to say it was the worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had. I used to use this takeaway occasionally and I rated it quite high and there was always a queue to be served, but not tonight and I realise why. The food is disgusting. We ordered the Satay Beef Chow Mein, salt and pepper King prawn and a beef curry. Because we didn't want rice or chips with all the meals, we still got charged for them as it was a set meal. The beef was not beef or not as we know it and the salt and pepper King prawn was a soggy mess. The beef curry again was not beef. I cant believe how bad this takeaway has become. Its a disgrace and should be closed ASAP or open with new owners that know how to provide a great Chinese takeaway. AVOID LKE THE PLAGUE

Not a great Chinese always been a bit hit or miss for my liking even within one order. The girl behind the counter needs a couple of customer service lessons as well.

Orderd over Xmas. After a very long wait, Got dry microwaved food. There's much better and cheaper Chinese resturants which deliver in the area.

Ordered from them for a while. Not the best but we live close. Yesterday (Saturday night) we ordered a half duck pancakes. The duck was so brittle and dry it snapped off in our hands when we shredded it. Called up to complain and first thing the owner said was 'well what do you expect, we cook it at the beginning of the week and freeze it.' now I'm starting to think ALL of the food is like that and they're just microwaving everything up as the food, no matter how big the order, only take 10 minutes to get ready. So gross!

Ordered from here many times, received terrible food last time. When i called them i was told it was my word against theres and next time it happens it would be half off. Ridiculous!

Been going here for over 20 years and the food has always been too quality. Been to other similar place’s in Wigan and they don’t compare.

Due to covid secure measures you are required to stand outside on arrival and wait for your number to be shouted out, myself and many others waited outside in very cold winter weather for 30 mins waiting for our orders, simply unacceptable in the current weather, i have been a loyal customer for over 30 years and always enjoyed the previous good service but recently this has been poor, no appologises and surley staff mean i wont be going back as there is plenty of competition in the area which is sad as the food is good.

Best Chinese takeaway in the area. Love the bbq spare ribs and sweet and sour chicken. Have used this takeaway for years and always been happy with the food.

nipped in for chips and gravy, when got home nearly all chips were undercooked, didn't enjoy them at all. A shame as the Chinese food element has always been excellent. Second time of having hard chips though has put us off.

Chips are hit and miss but everything else is lovely. Highly recommend the hot and sour soup! Staff very friendly

Since it has reopened after the covid shutdown, the food is tasteless and unappetising, there is just the bare minimum of ingredients.

Visited this take away for the first time and I have to say I'm very please with the outcome will be going back again for sure.

It is true to say that my experience of food from Wing Lee has been variable. Had the unfortunate experience of purchasing two meals from Wing Lee last night and they were disgusting. We only ate half of each before giving up. I then spent an uncomfortable evening not venturing very far from a toilet. Please avoid this place like the plague if you value your health.

Been a customer of Wing Lee for many years but dont understand why as the food quality is very unpredictable. Bought two meals last night that were inedible and resulted in a very uncomfortable night where I could not venture far from a toilet! Please save your money and your health by avoiding this place like the plague. I will never buy food from here again. Jordan's in Shevington will now get all my business.

Called in for our tea on the way home from work, I ordered our food and was told there was only a small tub of gravy instead of the large I ordered. I watched them put it in the tub I said don't bother as the gravy looked lumpy, it was a Friday night and the time was 7.20pm!!!!!

Didn't have what I wanted which was disappointing. Food was alright though

They got our order wrong. Had to go back to pick up the rest of our order whilst other food was going cold at home. Instead of just giving a simple apology the man behind the counter began yelling at me that i had ordered wrong, insisting I had to pay again. Been going here for years. Won’t be returning.

I have never had such a shocking experience, I ordered my food and did not receive it after 1hr & 20 mins, I called and the lady answered withought speaking leaving me on hold whilst taking another order, so I hung up and called back to inform them of how discraceful the service is, to then ask how long my food would have been to be told we are still waiting for our driver to return, I then told them to cancel my order and low and behold my order arrived, which I felt was shocking as I had cancelled bad service and tude

We've had a number of takeaways from New Wing Lee recently and enjoyed them all, especially the crispy chilli chicken which is very good. Would also recommend the salt and pepper chips, which are also very good. Would recommend this takeaway.

The food is ok but every time you make a telephone order, there are items missing when you get the order home, not good enough and spoils tour meal. Make sure it's all there before you leave.

Called here on my way home from work. We had Two large chips, One fish, large peas and large gravy all for the price of just over £8.00. The food was excellent.

A decent chinese takeaway. Generous portions and always hot. I have had some meals which have been a little greasy but on the whole the food is tasty. If you want complimentary prawn crackers you'll have to spend £30 or more though!

we have been going to Wing lee nearly 30 years now and highly recommend it to people we know and meet, they are very friendly and the food is delicious 😘

We’ve not tried here for years. Tried on Saturday for convenience.We had three dishes between three people plus rice.The food was hot and very tasty. Slightly more expensive than our usual Chinese take away in Ormskirk. Portions were smaller than I expected and only enough for three of us. Each dish would have benefited from an extra spoonful.Would go back though.

It's so nice to have a local Chinese chippy. They do both the Chinese meals and fish and chips equally well, unlike others. The orders are always fresh, hot and quick. It's not the best Chinese food I've ever eaten, but it is perfectly acceptable. Great service and lovely staff.

Silver star in Standish just 10 mins away sells salt and pepper chicken at £2.00 whereas here it sells it at £5.10 and its not like the portions are any bigger either, I'm in outrage- dam this place got more creatures than bugs life as well g- Kenan_parsons-sc he's like 15 and up for anything xox

Travelled to the area on business. Hotel had no Food so I went to the New Wing Lee. Done this twice. Very ordinary looking place but the food is delicious, arrived fast and good value. What more can you ask for?

Was given this as a Chinese as a good one to try, what a disappointment ordered chicken cashew nuts fried rice, chicken was like water no veg just onions water chestnuts topped off with a jelly substance....my wife ordered veg chowmein again no veg just slimy onions water chestnuts and what I can only describe as the only bit of colour a cabbage leaf. The veg spring rolls were just as bad....definately one to avoid.....

I have been using this place for years and I have always loved the food. The prices are starting to go up a bit to a point I would say is maybe a bit too much but it hasn't got there for most items yet so I am still more than happy pay for the great food I get there

We Love the Duck and Pork in BBQ sauce with noodle's, its the best Chinese in the area, it gets very busy but worth the wait, just place your order then nip in the spar for drinks and ice cream etc then collect your order.

China de buena calidad, con algunos artículos interesantes en el menú. Personalmente me gustaría recomendar las costillas de barbacoa, la carne es tierna y tienes un montón! Los platos satay son realmente sabrosos y el entrante mixto combo es genial (como aparece). Mi único comentario negativo es el hecho de que el Chow mein puede ser un poco sosa. Para ser honesto, hemos comido en más comida para llevar china en la zona y esta es nuestra primera opción. Es obvio que con un buen grado de carne en sus platos, y que la frescura de los ingredientes es evidente cuando se prueba la comida. Desde fuera no diría que es el lugar más estéticamente agradable que he sido, la comida es sin duda algo que debe probar si estás de humor para un chino y te encuentras por casualidad en la zona. Este ha sido ir para llevar Chino durante años y años, la calidad de la comida es un testimonio de este éxito. Sigan con el buen trabajo!

Probablemente la peor comida china que he probado personalmente. Las comidas eran patatas fritas sosa insípida, curry salsa de natación de grasas, aunque la salsa era agradable...

I go to this take away all the time, I'm 31 and Iv been going since I was about 12 and Iv never had a bad meal. The staff are really friendly and will try to help as much as they can. There prices are good and I will continue to use New Wing Lee

all food was still piing hot when we got home and we had no complaints about service etc. My partner & my friend enjoyed their meal however my spring rolls were just filled with mush and tasted like the fryer oil was stale, even the dog didn't want them. My rice was fine but my crispy chicken had a strange texture which makes me think it wasn't even chicken, the pieces were huge and all stuck together making it very hard to try to eat but I didn't like it. The sauce had also leaked all over the bag so maybe a different container would be appropriate for food with runny sauces. Although this place was recommended I doubt I'll try it again as crispy chicken is one of the only chinese dishes I like. It was all fairly reasonably priced too, although usually wiht a big order there's something free thrown in and there wasn't.

Never been disappointed at Wing Lees , food is always ready when you collect after a phone order. The meals are really good - try the special chow mein ! Fish and chips are great as well . Just wish they delivered.

First of all, this chippy is usually fantastic. But unfortunately this time it wasn't quite so great. Myself and my girlfriend ordered shredded chilli chicken and shredded chilli beef, with some rice and some chips. The food was ready in double-quick time, which made me suspicious as to whether or not it had been cooked fresh. We took the food home and ate the lot and it was pretty good. However I woke up at 2:30am with my head spinning, and my body switching from being very hot, to cold chills. I got up and made my way to the toilet and wasn't sure which end I should've put over the toilet bowl first. I decided to go with the 'traditional method' and sat down, and immediately threw up into the bath. I continued the cycle of being sick and going back to bed between the hours of 2am and 5:30am, and as for what was coming out of the other end.. Well let's just say I've had thicker pisses.I have had to take the day off work, and my girlfriend has missed an exam at university.

Had fish and chips which were both cooked to perfection. Every time I come to this chippy it is always good.

Went here on the 28th August, we all had fish and chips with gravy which were very good. This was a treat for us, because we only go two or three times a year. I would recommend this chippy.

Although they don't deliver, we orders over the phone and collected our piping hot meal 10 minutes later. The chicken curry was great and the chicken itself was of much better quality than most. The crispy aromatic pork was absolutely delicious and a massive portion. The chips are great too - proper home made ones! We will definitely eat here again.

the chicken and sweetcorn soup is lovely, so is the chick fried rice with curry sauce extra. Would recommend highly chips and gravy nice too.
