We were just out for a drive along the A5199 and drove past the Navigation. Looked reasonable and as there was no other places apart from the Macdonalds along the way, we turned back and were not disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly and chatty, lunch ordered and appeared promptly, Caesar salad and a Ploughmans lunch, certainly very hearty fare! The Caesar salad came with croutons which are clearly from the ‘door stop’ sliced bread, and a hot breadcrumbed boiled egg (presumably quick fried), an amazing addition to a classic dish. The Ploughman’s had nice thick local ham, pork pie, blue and cheddar cheese and none of it skimped on. Plenty of pickled gherkins onions and chutney too. Best thing was the chef actually took our order and delivered it to our table. Nothing like knowing the person preparing your food is invested in the customer receiving it. The Old Speckled Hen (draught) was also one of the best that the old man has had All in all a lovely unexpected treat. Well worth a visit.

Went to visit my brother and we were looking for a pub serving food. We saw the sign outside and decided to pop in. So glad we did. It was absolutely delicious. My brother and I went for the pulled pork burger, which was absolutely huge. Nicely presented and slightly spicy - just the right amount. Our parents went for one fish and chips to share between two. The chef decided to cut the fish in half and put it on two plates, but when it came out it looked like they had a whole fish each! Again, generous portions and absolutely delicious. The staff were really friendly and there's a nice sitting area beside the canal. Highly recommend this place.

The beer was good and the staff were friendly. However the ham hock pie, which two of us had, was cooked to a point the inside was dried out and hard. The lasagne was also dry, lacking the creamy sauce you expect. The "door stop" BLT was not a door stop. Heard a few other customers reporting problems with their meals. Not surprisingly none of the staff asked us if we were happy with our meals. Would go back for a drink but not a meal.

We have just moored up next to the Navigation inn - hoping for a pub meal. When we got there, there was a sign saying no food available. As a couple of hungry boaters, we were quite disappointed. I ignored the sign & asked if there was any food. They said as they had just re opened, there wasn’t any. They asked if we were boaters. When we said we were, they offered us several local takeaway menus & ordered the food to be delivered there for us. What hospitality. Next time we’re passing this way we will definitely call in again. Huge shout out to Navigation inn staff.

On booking in we were asked to book later than we really wanted as they had a party of ten in that evening. This became a theme for the evening and even though the restaurant was half empty the party of ten became the excuse throughout. We had arrived by boat and wanted just a simple meal of fish and chips which we ordered at exactly the time we had booked in. We waited and waited while two very young waitresses flapped back and forth often with nothing in their hands. After 40 minutes we asked hopefully if there was any sign of the fish and chips. Ten minutes later it arrived and it would probably have been better had it not. The fish was incinerated and had the texture of rope and the mushy peas were luke warm. The chips and the beer were fine, but it's the first pub we have ever come across that has managed to completely ruin such a classic meal. We have been travelling for three months on our boat and this is the worst meal and service we have had during that time.

We had intended to arrive at the navigation on our rented canal boat, but got delayed on our journey. I rang The Navigation who recommended a local taxi firm to pick us up from our overnight mooring at Newton Harcourt. We were welcomed at the pub door and offered a choice of tables for dinner. They had an offer of 3 courses for £9.99 which was remarkable in itself. Our server was Katie and she couldn't have been more helpful. The food itself was hot, tasty and plentiful. Being a little short of milk on the boat, I asked Katie whether there was a corner shop nearby. About 15 minutes walk was her reply and it was now getting dark and I don't know the area. However, Katie offered to let us have a spare 2 litre bottle from the kitchen - and at cost price too! What stunning customer service. Many thanks to all concerned.

Stumbled across this pub on a recent day out with my family and I have to say it was my good fortune. Whilst the exterior of the pub could do with a little lick of paint this was more than compensated for by the warm welcome received as we entered. This was backed up by the landlord who having established that we were going to the races, kept us updated with information about the meeting and actually gave us a winning tip. This is a pub that will appeal to those traditionalists who enjoy good food and a pint in a relaxing environment.

This is the third time we have visited this establishment in as many years but never again. The first time we ate in the restaurant which was dull and drab, the meal was absolutely awful. The second time we just stopped for a drink but the place looked dirty and unwelcoming. Our third visit, last week, was on a warm and sunny afternoon when again we just stopped for a drink. Only one person was behind the bar and after a long wait to be served, there was no apology. She served a customer who came in some minutes later at the same time as us. After three years the place looks increasingly dingy and is in great need of renovation. Even outside where there is a picnic area next to the canal was filthy and in desperate need of a clean up. A short drive away in either direction takes you to bars/restaurants which are much cleaner, quicker and more welcoming.

This was not an understatement because they were really busy and so the waitress and waiter were rushed off of their feet trying to be all things to all people. I opted for the Beetroot and Goats Cheese starter which was strange but tasty. My main was the Navigation Burger which had Horseradish sauce which was horrible, a dry beef burger in a dry bap. We found a few menus and made our way to a table whilst my other half got the drinks. I thought I was imagining the carpet being sticky, but when we came out it turned out I wasn't the only one who noticed. The menu was pretty standard, and between us we chose scampi, sirloin and a baked potato. Polite aunt didn't comment on the scampi, but didn't eat it all. Steak was apparently fine, though accompanying chips described as lukewarm. The salad with the baked potato was good, but potato distinctly cool. Between three of us we didn't manage one clean plate. The waitress looked like she would rather have been somewhere else, and was ticked off for disappearing when it was time to prepare our bill. The tables outside looked attractive, and had a good view of the canal - in retrospect we would have been more comfortable out there. Has the potential to be a decent pub grub type pub, but really needs a bit of attention and a more enthusiastic waitress.

The building is quite obviously very old and we hope that it keeps its character. Situated in a pleasant rural setting where you can sit next to the canal. There appeared to be a large regular clientelle and we heard only praise during our visit for the staff, food and ambience.. No doubt there will be some who are over critical though due to its 'well worn and used' appearance but they can always take a hike and go elsewhere. All that told us was that it very well used and comes highly recommended, more so with dogs being welcomed too in the bar area. As for the beer....well it is mostly hand drawn and gains our top marks for its quality.

It's summer time and the best way to spend a night is drinking beer and having dinner by the canal footpaths around Leicester... Yes? I have been and had a drink are the Navigation a few time, but until now never eaten there. The food is very good, very well priced and presented very well. Top marks for the food and waiting staff that looked after us.Just a couple of negatives to be aware off,Its not a place for kids to run around, a lot of the tables outside are in the car park and the area next to the canal is small. If you can't control your children then don't take them. The tables outside are not cleaned and therefore lead to fly's and wasps wanting to share your beer with you.... Other than that it was a nice place to be and a nice night out. Hence my score of very good. Please give me a "thumbs up" if this helped you..

Just scoffed pancakes stuffed with feta, cherry tomatoes, avocado and served with a lovely sauce. So nice to have an interesting veggie meal. Rest of the family have enjoyed theirs too: cod wrapped in bacon, Navigation burger and Thai pancakes. The chaps tell me the beer is kept very well. A happy experience.

It was quiet on a Wednesday evening (Pie Night) when we visited while travelling by canal boat. The staff were friendly, the food was freshly cooked, plentiful, tasty and reasonably priced. No wine list, but a bottle of decent Australian Shiraz for under 12 pounds isn't bad. Will call again if we get the chance.By the way, I had the Navi Burger and my wife the chicken supreme which we both enjoyed but couldn't finish.

From the outside it looks like an old-fashioned country pub on the canal. Just what we wanted on a Saturday lunchtime. The beer was unexceptionable, but: 'Do you have hot sausage rolls?' 'No, but we have lots of other things!' 'Like what?' 'What do you want?' 'What have you got?" 'I'll check ... well, actually, nothing...' 'Nothing...?' The blackboard suggested they might have Thai fishcakes, but perhaps that was some other time. 'Let's forget it!'

Popped in here for a mid week lunch as we were in the area and needed a quick bite to eat. First impression is it needs a good lick of paint outside and a general tidy up, cigarette ends all over the car park. Inside is very dated with an old carpet, sticky tables and dirty dog eared menus. If we hadn't been hungry and had an appointment in half an hour in the area we would have left. There was a funny musty / fried food / damp smell about the place. Staff were friendly enough and we chose a simple sandwich type meal which was actually fine. Toilets were clean. Probably wouldn't come back though or recommend to be honest.

We went for the lunchtime special of home made beef pie and it was delicious. This pub is a lovely venue by the canal if you want to have a relaxing drink outdoors and watch the boats go by.

Lovely position canal side. Been in here before but seem's to have gone down hill since our last visit. Sitting in the rubbish strewn garden watching the boats go past is not our idea of pleasure. We did go in and order food which again was average pub food. The decor could do with a refresh but overall not a bad meal. With a little effort could be a magnet / goldmine. Would visit again.

Used to visit regularly, especially in the spring/summer. Ploughman's lunch was always good and if we didn't fancy a meal you could always have a cob and a pint. On our visit about 3months ago, we decided to have a cob and a drink and sit next to the canal. As it was March, although the sun was out, it was still a little cool, but this hasn't mattered in the past, but this time we were met by metal benches to sit on instead of wood. As you can imagine they were so cold you couldn't sit on them without getting frostbite of the bottom. The area was filthy, cigarette ends everywhere and broken glass all over the floor. To top it off our cobs were like rubber. At the weekend the sun was out and as we were passing we decided to drop in for a drink. We didn't eat but went to sit next to the canal. The step's down to the seating were dangerously damaged and the brickwork underneath was collapsing, the tables were all empty ,apart from us, which wasn't surprising as the pile of cigarette s was even bigger, rubbish was all over the floor and the same broken glass was still all over the place. The grass was so long you could hardly see the canal , so overall very run down and neglected. Not sure what's happened to what was once a great place to have a drink , feeding the ducks and swans as canal boats went by. As it was so quiet it seems that everyone else must be thinking the same because it used to be heaving, the minute the sun came out.

We called in here on our way down the Grand Union canal. Arrived quite late and no booking. However, very friendly staff and attentive service. Great menu and lovely meal. We would definitely go there again if we were in the area. Brilliant, just what we needed after a long day.For boaters - there are excellent safe moorings here and a CRT service point. Moorings on towpath opposite side to pub.

I went in here for some late night fishies and the chippings and when I went inside there on the floor was the remains of someones blood from a wigston punch up in the chip shopIt was not a sight a woman should see who only went in the place because she was hungryI decided against ordering seeing the state of the place and decided to raid the cupboards at home instead for something to eat as you do as a plan bI do not think I will go in here again and will choose a cleaner chip shop instead and I definitely wouldn't go in here late at night on a Friday or saturday

Having been a chef for the last 40years I can say that I have never had such a bad meal.advertised fish and chips the food that was served was fish fingers which were of very poor quality the chips were crinkle frozen.i should have known that the food was not good by the lack of cars in the car park.never again would I eat the disscusted pub.lordgeoffrey Hage.

I'm not quite sure if their pizza bases are all the same but when ordering a thin crust you'd expect a thin crust &instead receive a thick crust. Pizza wasn't hot or the best. So for that reason I won't order from here again. The atmosphere was ok as it should be, takeaway is nice and clean & the staff seem ok though (A⭐️- for effort)
