Nags Head in Lichfield

We visited the Nags Head as part of the Black Country Ale trail, and to be honest its one of my favourite pubs so far. A lovely building with a welcoming atmosphere with an equally welcoming staff member behind the bar. Unfortunately we only had time to stay for 1 drink but its definitely on my list to go back when I'm less rushed.

Absolutely amazing pub, atmosphere and decor is beautiful. All staff are so friendly and go above and beyond. Ray and staff are always smiling and willing to accommodate. We come here regularly and wouldn’t go anywhere else. Would recommend all to come here for food or drinks. Fantastic service 🌟

Very disappointed with my latest visit - standard of food was well below what I had come to expect from the Nags Head. The majority of the Sunday roast tasted as though it had been in the microwave & the apple pie looked anaemic! It will be a long time before I visit again.

Always had an issue here with service but seeing the latest reviews thought we'd try again. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy but on asking for menus we were told around 30 minutes for food. Not a problem. Went to order to then be told they would speak to the kitchen. This time it was a 30 minute wait to just place an order. I was ready to leave but my daughter went in after the 30 minutes to be told we'll have to ask the kitchen. They had a table if 12 place an order and this is all they can cope with. If this is the case a full restaurant on an evening would close them. Won't be returning

Really nice pub. Very nice atmosphere with a lot of seating both inside and out. Friendly staff and locals. Dog friendly. Good beers, good pub grub and, pretty much everything you’d want from your local (with the exception of a pool table!) Look forward to some hot weather!

After visiting here previously and having a lovely sunday lunch which presentation was lovely we came again today but was disappointed with the presentation of the food and lack of vegetables, we had to pay for a portion of greens, the roast potatoes were on menu stating they were cooked in goosefat garlic and rosemary but you could tell they were frozen ones, the carrot and swede mash was basically carrot cut into small chunks and couldnt taste any swede , the only root vegetable was a parsnip which was just cooked not roasted, the meal was nice but it should have what it says on the menu on your plate, it lacked the care and quality we have experienced in the past.

Extremely pleasant and relaxed Saturday lunch. Staff were attentive but not pushy. Varied menu and delicious food.

We ate here on Saturday 22nd February 2025, and were served by Isobel. We were eating an early dinner around 5pm. Three of us, 2 x parents + 19 y/o daughter who has sensory issues for taste and sound. The atmosphere was pleasantly busy but not noisy, so it didn't trigger our teenager. The food options were deliciously interesting, but there were enough "basic" offers that it didn't feel intimidating to select if you prefer traditional / plainer foods. We asked to modify the burger she had to remove all additional sauces etc., and initially when it was served this had been overlooked. However Isobel was so attentive that she instantly apologised and went to take the burger back. A new one was brought out shortly after, together with a "peace offering" from the chef in the form of tasty bacon bits, which our teenager enjoyed. The portion sizes were generous and only my husband could finish his meal, which was a pity as we would have loved pudding!! It was a thoroughly lovely experience, clean and nice ambience but we didn't feel out of place in our slightly muddy walking clothes, and all the staff we interacted with provided excellent service. The chef must be praised as well. Thoroughly recommend.

Lovely country pub with great menu and tasty food. Very relaxed with good service and stylish interior. Kerry and Ray were both very helpful and friendly.

Lucy and Isobel made our first date night after a baby very pleasent! They were very friendly and nothing was too much! Food was incredible however steak was too over cooked when it was asked to be blue but could not fault anything else! Thank you for a great evening! And we will be returning :)

Visited recently for a special occasion Mary Stacey and the team couldn’t do enough for us food was lovely as always, which is always made better by the team there so friendly and go above and beyond

We visit quite often for a drink and occasionally for a meal. Love this pub. Had a voucher for 2 meals for £20. Food as always was lovely. Staff as always attentive, pleasant and friendly. Couldn’t fault

We were a party of 9 for a 75th birthday celebration. Cannot recommend highly enough. Both food and service were amazing. No ding and a ping, fresh, homemade quality ingredients. Thank you to all.

Welcomed at the door and seated quickly as pub was virtually empty. Was told the friers were being 'done' and we couldn't order certain things. Menus were very uninspiring- same stuff as I can get from anywhere else bar one option - this was unavailable as they were waiting on a food order. I ordered mixed grill and my husband ordered fish and chips with scampi and bread & butter. Fish and chips was good however bread looked like the last slice in the bag and was as dry as a bone. Butter was rock hard and he couldn't spread it without destroying the bread. The mixed grill was dry and totally bland, sausage was hard as a rock, and sauce was no better than a normal gravy out of a jar. The table slid across the floor ever time you cut anything. Not impressed at all. We came to this pub over a year ago and was disappointed then and we decided to give it another chance - wish we hadn't at the cost of over £40!!! We were asked if everything was OK but I hadn't really eaten much at that point but left quite a lot of my meal. Disappointed and won't be returning 😕

Enjoyable safe Christmas Eve We arrived at the nags head on Christmas Eve have we have done for the last four years for family Christmas drinks 3 years ago a fight broke out in which a lady manager was punched and as a family we said we were never going back after speaking to the lovely manager she assured us this was a family pub and steps were in place to stop this happening again and would not be overcrowded last Christmas 2023 we arrived to see door staff atmosphere was amazing and enjoyed a lovely night same again this year well done nags head safety over profit what a refreshing change

Wonderfully festive here today! Lovely experience with my friends waiting for the band to come on, decided to have food and found the selection good; one of us had the specials and they were huge! A great evening had by all - thank you to the team!

Just had the most delicous Christmas lunch with my sister and mum, everything was fresh hot and tasty, served promptly with arrival drinks and additonal drinks, starters were quickly served, delicous, main event was perfection, turkey was succulent and beautiful, veggies were cooked to perfection and the yorkie was amazeballs, and desert was yummy xx Service was faultless, warmely welcomed by management and team, nothing to much trouble at all. I work in hospitality and i know how much pressure these guys were and are under, but tjey all pull together and give faultless service. People are too quick to find fault and nasty comments and reviews, normally by people who have never worked a day in retail or hospitality in their lives, they dont understand the damage nasty comments and reviews can do to pubs and restraunts. You guys are beautiful and do amazing jobs. You have made my first christmas without my grandparents so special so thank you every single one of you... Special shout out to Mary the General Manager who is just a gem and so lovely xx

Extremely disappointed in the management yesterday. My family have been using the nags head for nearly 16 years for an annual Christmas Eve drink. Yesterday, after dropping my family off in the car at the venue (two small children of 8 and 2 and their Nan and grandad) I then dropped the car home and walked back to the pub, arriving 10 minutes after them. I was refused entry by firstly the bouncers and then the management. My dad had already bought me a drink and had a space for me at a table next to my two young children! My friends who I hadn’t seen for months were then refused entry! Even though around 15 people left as they were waiting and there were tables free to the right of the bar. It was farcical.

We went for our annual Christmas eve drink only to find three bouncers on the door, who refused us entry due to the pub being "full". My friends entire family was inside, including his children, who were advising us there was plenty of space. We saw a good 15 people leave whilst we were outside, and still refused entry until my friends dad came out and pleaded with the bouncers and eventually they let him in, but left me outside! The excuse was a "fire engineer was on site counting people". I think we'll be looking for a new pub for next year's meet up which is a real shame as we have been coming here for the last 15 years. The bouncers were very friendly and you could see were only carrying out the managers request, and did get a little embarrassed themselves!

Standard uninspiring pub fare. Cold plates, chewy steak and limp salad. Need to try a bit harder.

Breakfast with Santa this morning (21st December) was absolutely brilliant. Granddaughters thoroughly enjoyed themselves. All staff were wonderful in what must have been very stressful delivering plates of food in amongst excitable children dancing around. Father Christmas was a really lovely gentleman who was so kind and approachable Delilah was convinced he was the real deal! Will certainly book for next year. A very big thankyou for a memorable morning.

Had our wedding here at the nags on Saturday. Don't really know where to start. Mary and stacey were so accommodating from the day we booked, nothing was too much trouble. The sit down meal was a 10/10 from all guests everyone was so happy with the quality of the food. All the staff were friendly and polite and provided us excellent service throughout. Evening buffet again, excellent people coming up to me through the evening saying how lovely everything was. Thank you all for making our day so special.

the nags is a decent pub .food is good but over £6.00 for a guest ale is ridiculous. This will stop us using the pub as often.

We enjoyed a late brunch lunch! Fabulous food the fries were perfect (keep doing this perfect 🤩 my steak sandwich and the signature burger we were super impressed! Love the casual aspect of eating and drinking there. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

We came as a family for a pre Christmas breakfast 🎄 we were served promptly by bex, who was very welcoming and took our drinks orders. The atmosphere was good throughout the meal and we were checked on by Ray. It was a perfect start to the festive season 🙂

Been to The Nags Head a few times, it’s always our go to pub for family meals as it’s our local and friendly.

Has the most wonderful meal in a very very cold wintry night this week here. Such a wonderful welcome and looked after by everyone especially Ray and Kerry. Food was exceptional - absolutely huge portions and a lovely chilled vibe. Thankyou to all!

The staff, food, atmosphere and layout of the Nags Head was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and Ray, the assistant manager went the extra mile in making our Australian guests feel really welcome. I thoroughly recommend you visit.

Not impressed. Waited ages at the bat to be served. I presume it was the manager who turned up to serve us who seemed very disorganised. Starter was average. Main was terrible for the price. Bacon over cooked. Sea bass was just about cooked. Not worth the money.

After turning up here to celebrate my dad's birthday it became clear I didn't confirm the booking. The gent who was greeting and hosting was brilliant and found us a little table. Can't thank him enough for squeezing us in and making us feel so welcome. The food was amazing too.

The staff here are all lovely and accommodating. Came here with my family and the food was quick and lovely would definitely recommend. The pet friendly area is a lovely perk to the place.
