One of the best meals I have had out in ages

My husband and I recently enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu at MUSU and the experience was incredible. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the dishes and wines. The food was amazing and the sushi in particular was better than anything we've ever had. Absolutely will be returning.

We had a brilliant experience, cannot recommend Musu enough. The food is incredible and every details has been thought so carefully about. Remi was brilliant with the wine pairing all night. We had a brilliant time - thank you!

Went to MUSU for lunch and had the 5 course tasting menu, £50 per person, and well worth it. Great service from the moment I arrived, was seated in the beautiful waiting area while the table was being prepared and was served with drinks whilst I was waiting. They have a good variety of cocktails and they are incredible. The atmosphere at lunch was relaxed and was easy to hold a conversation. The food was amazing, so fresh and full of flavour, compliments to the chefs. The waiters and waitresses are exceptional, and really add to the whole experience, they are a credit to the restaurant. This is my new favourite Sushi restaurant.

Wonderful evening from start to finish. Our 8 course tasting menu was simply delicious and the staff were friendly whilst still being very professional and informative about each course. Excellent service and atmosphere. Will be recommending to friends and family. Have booked to go back in a couple of weeks and intend to have many more lunches and dinners in MUSU.

Incredible food in a really smart setting, and with great staff. This is the most authentic Japanese food I've had in this country. We had the omakase, and had the pleasure of watching skilled sushi chefs carve and prepare their way through some fantastic quality meats for us. It was a wonderful experience sitting at the counter, and I'd recommend this to all.

Greet food and the service was brilliant. The team were very attentive and nothing was too much.

Had an absolutely wonderful time. The restaurant itself is very stylish which added to the overall experience. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! We didn’t go for the wine flight so can’t comment on that. It was quite busy so sometimes a little difficult to hear the server and sommelier. Having said that, our server (Kate), was lovely; professional but really personable. There is no escaping the fact that it is an expensive restaurant - both food and drinks - but as a special occasion it was definitely worth it.

We had a most enjoyable evening. From start to finish the service and the food were outstanding. It was exciting to see Michael Shaw and his team preparing the food. Each action completed in a calm and precise way. The dishes looked beautiful and the flavours were exquisite. Top notch quality on each dish. The wine pairing was both value and quality. The wines did compliment each of the 12 dishes. Remi gave us enough information without bombarding us with too many facts, good man. The ambience/setting is very smart and comfortable. Back to the food, we will go back to eat there again, it was really great. Why they do not already have at least one Michelin star is beyond us. This was the best food we have ever had, superb!

So Musu has been long on my wishlist and they offer 50% off for all tasting menu in June! We ordered 8-course set and we were so impressed by the high quality of their menu design, ingredients and presentation. They are definitely not the most authentic Japanese cuisine however the culture fusion and ingredient mix brough the experience to a upper level. Especially enjoyed their sashimi and nigiri - very fresh raw fish Chanwashimu (steamed egg) is top-notch and perfectly balanced with foamed top plus the aroma of mushroom and onion aftermath Cod cheek is another at its best - extremely tender texture and flavoured nicely Staff were attentive friendly and helpful Clear explanation of each dish and the ingredients Now i hope to try out their omakase set.

Me and a friend came to celebrate both of our birthdays by trying the 5 course taster menu and matching wine pairing. All was absolutely delicious, great service & the cocktails were divine. We were kept waiting for our table for quite a while but we were given the wine flight for free which definitely made us forget about it 😄 Would not hesitate to return, maybe we’ll try the 12 courses next!

Hands down, some of the best food we’ve had in Manchester! They use the finest quality of ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. The service is excellent. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. The entire staff worked seamlessly together to create a seamless dining experience. We never had to ask for anything twice. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. Our server (Yash) did an amazing job doing exactly just that. From appetizers to desserts, this restaurant exceeded all our expectations! Can’t wait to be back very soon!

This really is the fine dining experience that throws the others into the shade. We didn't think that this menu could be better than the last one.... MUSU did it again. Exceptional service from the moment you walk in to when you leave - everyone was so knowledgeable, welcoming, friendly and professional. Beautiful décor and lightning, expert bar and mixologists. My friend and I went on a whim after a particularly tough week and this was the therapy we needed to take us to a very happy place.

We had the 5 course tasting menu and as soon as we had the first course, instantly regretted not having the 12 course. Everything we ate was absolutely fantastic, we luckily sat at a table right next to the kitchen and was incredible to see the chefs at work. We were even given a complimentary dessert course which was a lovely touch. We felt so cared for by the staff, they were amazing at every point. Myself and my daughter went to MUSU for lunch, we chose the Sushi menu. When we arrived we were taken to our table and welcomed by all the staff. The menu was explained to us before we ordered which was great. The food came out and at each stage we were told what each dish was and if there was a specific way to eat it to get the best flavour. Every bit of food we tried was amazing. You could see and taste the freshness in each piece of fish we tried. We also had cocktails which again were amazing. I would definitely recommend MUSU if you want to try something different. Great food, great drinks and great staff we would definitely go back.

Very disappointed. We went to the tuna experience and travelled to Manchester for this. The presentation was poor, felt amateurish and unprofessional. The presentation is presented by what appears to be the guy in the restaurant who is just good at presenting. The content of the presentation is not informative at all - save your money and Google different cuts of tuna. There was no explanation of the cuts or the preparation of sushi or the craft involved. It is my first time leaving a restaurant hungry. When you attend the experience you get a plate of sashimi, three pieces of nigiri and 2 maki. There is a very nice Thai restaurant across the road we attended after the event to no longer be ‘hangry’ after this experience. It is extremely surprising that the restaurant has a very nice aesthetic, very personable staff, some of the best equipment in terms of knives used to carve the tuna. Yet no one thought that their diners should not leave hungry after spending £200. I never leave reviews on anything but I believe people need forewarning about this. It is not acceptable to offer a service ‘a meal’ and not deliver.

The best Japanese food in Manchester City. Omakase provides two games every night. The first game starts at 7 o'clock and the second game is at 9 o'clock. There are only 4 positions available for each game. The price is 150 pounds/person. The chef is a Brazilian Japanese cuisine haha. I will definitely come to this restaurant again. It is said that there is also tuna fish opening that you can make an appointment to watch. Recommended Recommended

Another amazing experience at Musu. We’ve been twice now and both times were fantastic. The food and service are excellent. The set menus offer a really diverse taste of modern Japanese food. And are brilliant value when there’s an offer on. Great choice of cocktails and wines. The bottle of white we ordered wasn’t quite chilled so the sommelier gave us complementary glasses of another wine while we waited for it to chill. Nice service!

Absolutely lovely experience, the staff were fantastic and the service impeccable. The food was the obvious stand out but the entire evening has definitely embedded itself as a great memory. I will definitely be visiting again, worth every penny.

Next level food. We had the 12 course Land Of The Rising Sun taster menu. Every dish was perfectly presented and explained what it was and a little background story. A few dishes, especially the desert looks so beautiful it was a shame they had to be eaten :) Staff were very attentive and helpful yet left us be to enjoy the meal which was a perfect balance. Great cocktails as well. Enquired into the Tuna Cutting experience and staff said they would email me the details when they were available, to which they did and now booked onto that also. Very impressed overall

Massively overpriced for the quality of food and the internet hype. The sashimi is really of average quality which you can get for a way reasonable price in nearby restaurant like Sushi Marvel.

Group of 4 attended for my 40th birthday and spent almost £900 on dinner. One of our group had food poisoning the day after. We informed the restaurant reception. The chef called and left a voicemail asking us to call back. We called back three or four times over several days, left messages and spoke to reception, but no one ever responded or called us back or apologised. Disappointing experience in the end.

My friend and I went out for a LONG overdue date to musu and oh my gosh it was delicious. Even for a non-fish person like me it was fantastic. I did ask our fabulous server Kati if the fish menu would be for me and she understood my concerns and convinced me into trying it anyway and I'm glad I did. We chose the 5 course tasting menu paired with the wine flights which was served by Remy who really knew his wines and everything matched perfectly. We had an appetizer which was a little salmon cup thingy with apple something Then the courses were Nigiri (sea bream, turbot and tuna) then tempura (shittake mushroom, aubergine and Courgette blossom) then a Miso glazed Cod Cheek, then an aged beef fillet with asparagus then a white chocolate and almond crisp.

Service was incredible and the food was fantastic - so much flavour. My husband had the wine pairing and thought the choices were fabulous (also superb knowledge of your team serving all drinks and dishes)

The service was great. We booked a table with 40% off online promotion. The food was OK but didn’t feel it’s fine dining. The potion was small and even my friend who usually eat a lot less than us didn’t feel full after 8 courses. Won’t be happy if we pay the full price for the experience.

Absolutely superb. Couldn’t fault at thing. Cocktails were incredible and the tasting menu was out of this world. The scallop, duck and the white chocolate courses stood out to the point I’d go back tomorrow if I could. Service was impeccable. Non intrusive but friendly and there when you needed them.

It was perfect, the staff were amazing very friendly and down to earth. I had many questions and they shared their very impressive knowledge so generously ❤️ 🤩 Can’t wait to return and very excited to learn more about Japanese cuisine as the flavours were exceptional and the techniques used to enhance the akami were a game changer… just need to figure out how to build one of your fridges in the house 😂 Thank you to all the team it was just perfect and we’ll be back soon when we don’t have plans after to enjoy the whole experience again matched with the wine pairing 🙌🏻

My wife and I had the 8 course tasting menu and overall had a wonderful evening. The flavors and dishes were exceptional. We particularly liked how the predominantly Japanese menu was influenced by other cuisines, i.e. the white chocolate dessert had the flavor profile of a Greek baklava! There were a few standout dishes for us including the nigiri, the Chawanmushi, the aged beef fillet and the (baklava like!) white chocolate dessert. These were all fabulous & the nigiri is probably the best I’ve had in Manchester! Some feedback: the cod cheeks dish was our least favourite. Although the broth is wonderful however the cod pieces needed seasoning and didn’t have much flavor. I think perhaps the cod needs to be marinaded first in Miso (or similar) for more flavor. Also from start to finish the meal took 3 hours which was far too long. We had to wait too long between dishes which wasn’t comfortable because we were very hungry and most of the dishes are bite sized. With that said, we had an outstanding meal and throughly recommend Musu; not least with the strong promotions currently on offer. We’ll definitely be going back again, as that Omakase offer looks very tempting indeed!

After dining with you a few weeks ago for the 12 course tasting menu we returned this weekend to try the Omakase experience & it did not disappoint. Once again the waiters were amazing, friendly, fun but not intrusive. The actual Omakase experience was amazing from start to finish. The chef was so knowledgeable, engaging & what he prepared was phenomenal. Every dish was delicious & expertly prepared it was fantastic to watch a really fantastic evening. Can't wait to return with some of ur friends in a few weeks time.

My first visit and not my last. It is so relaxed. The service was excellent as was the rum cocktail!! Hands down the food was excellent!!!

The worst experience we’ve ever had! The food is disgusting, something you will probably think is from Wasabi too good to go. Dessert is either too sour or too sweet, When I taste teriyaki chicken, I feel like I’m biting carbon. The service is very bad, all staffs look like they are in high-class and have privilege so they can be arrogant to you. Manager is also being rude and insult me that I’m trying to start the argument, although I am just asking if we can combine 2 tables together. Birthday cake is not allowed to be eaten in restaurants due to safety concerns, they don’t even allow any tables to be moved. I wonder if it’s racism because we are all Asian. Will never go to this disgusting restaurant again, hope someone work in this restaurant will read this and at least feel shame.

The Omakase was great, and compares very favourably against high end ones in London and Hong Kong for that matter. I think this is the best quality sushi [experience] I've had outside of Japan. Highly recommended at the current offer price - will be trying their set menus in due course.

Food and service was 5 star, great experience!

All round perfection. This place should leapfrog one Michelin Star and go straight to two. Having eaten at several 2*; MUSU has everything in place - I could not suggest a single improvement.

This is the kind of restaurant MCR has been yearning for. The ambience is I would say almost perfect and with service to match. From the reservation check in to the moment we left it really did feel 5 Star. Now .. the food . (Tasting Menu consumed ) The explanation was certainly an important part of the journey and definitely enhanced the experience. Most liked - probably the Nigiri, amazingly fresh taste. Least liked - probably the Tempura style (still delicious) . Hope this restaurant succeeds and remains , I will surely be frequenting as long as I can afford to ! In summary- Great food, fantastic atmosphere and 5 Star service.

Excellent restaurant with phenomenonal food and near impeccable service. When MUSU opened, I heard good things. When passing I was put off by the dark techno aesthetic visible from the outside. We chanced going, and did not regret. Ultra modern decor and ambience really does give you a techno Tokyo feel when inside. The cocktail menu was great, loved the range with the visually pleasing photos. They had a little printed specials cocktail menu, which we tried one or two drinks from as well. All drinks were fabulous. The food, phenomenonal. Authentic with a twist. Mouth watering, visually pleasing, filling. I cannot understate that this is the best Japanese food in Manchester. Cannot name a single dish that wasn't sublime. The chefs, visable to diners, worked diligently. Focused, calm and collected, not once did we see a sweaty forehead or panic from being rushed. A well oiled machine. Service was amazing, we had an all female waitstaff, (minus the excellent, dapper and knowledgeable male sommelier). All were fun, professional, with large warm smiles. Each were credits to the industry. Momentary blip when a male waiter came to the table to quite literally ask if he 'could steal' our special drinks printed menu to give to another table. Begs the question, why didn't they have spares? Our main issue was other diners. One woman a table away took her shoes off and put them up on an empty chair on the table. Another diner entered in a grey tracksuit and joggers. When you're paying high end prices for a high end experience. You expect high end across the board, especially since 95% remaining guests were all dressed fantastically, respectfully, and appropriately. The prices may put some off, but please don't let it. Splash out and have an evening at MUSU, it's worth it. Overall, 4.5/5, shame about some minor let downs, which I'm hoping were one offs.

From the moment we walked through the door, to the moment we left, the staff were friendly, approachable and attentive. The atmosphere and decor were amazing; although it did get pretty loud as the night went on, which was unexpected to us based on the theme and look of the place. We were served by multiple staff which were all wonderful, especially the sommelier Ivan. The way he describes the pairings is very captivating and had us clinging onto every word. We had the Land of the Rising Sun 12course. All the dishes were little experiences in themselves and we really took our time(4+hrs) to savour each and every one. The only downfall with the vegetarian menu is that some of the dishes didn't quite live up to their meat counterparts and were not on par at a value level, considering it was the same price. There was a bit of a wait for our duck course, which was absolutely fine and understandable as it was pretty busy at the time. The staff were still very reassuring and apologetic, and even offered us a round of cocktails as an apology. Overall it was a phenomenal experience and we can't wait for our next visit

Staff were 5/5 had a really good waiter who was super knowledgable and reassuring. Food presentation was awesome albeit the portions were incredibly small even by fine dining standards. Layout of restaurant was really cool and I was impressed by the effort that went into the menu also. We went for the 12 course Bizarrely enough ended up with stomach ache which kept me up all night. As mentioned had a wonderful experience with staff but don’t think I’d visit again.

Came with my son and had an unforgettable experience. The food was 10/10 each dish tasting amazing. Originally booked the 5 course but after seeing what the 8 course had to offer we asked Sam our waiter if we could increase which he had no issue sorting out for us. A very special thank you to Sam and especially Rachel and Mike who went above and beyond to give my son a night to remember. Along with the food team members like these make will make me sing the praises of Musu again and again. We will definitely be back 👍

Excellent food, just adventurous enough not to put my wife off but enough to makes us feel we'd had a great experience with foods we've never tried before. Great length of meal was never felt rushed or slow either. Staff were very knowledgeable and dealt with our requests for off menu cocktails. Would recommend!

I have been to every restaurant in Manchester, then lived in London for 3 years. Found MUSU very recently when I returned home. The whole system Michael Shaw has set up is superb. After dining at multiple 1 star places in London, MUSU is well deserved of 1, as it is now. A huge, bright future ahead. The southern Michelin biased system needs to change, and places like this need a plaque on the wall. Mana is the only one, rightly deserved, also superb. What a great experience. If this cuisine is your thing, sack off takeaways and all other restaurants for a short while, and save that cash for the incredible feast here.

The overall experience was sensational. The food owed us, a pleasure to eat. The service was excellent. The waiter was attentive and informative on the food. We all loved it and would definitely recommend.

The food was masterfully prepared, generously explained and unbelievably tasty. The ingredients were fresh and the skill of the chef was a real treat to see. The service from all staff was second to none - a perfect balance of attentiveness and the privacy to enjoy our meal together. We loved it and we will absolutely be coming back.

What they are doing at MUSU is exceptional. The food is sublime and the service and vibe is perfect - friendly but super professional (special mention to Sam who must be the best waiter in the city). Menu highlights are many: the nigiri and sashimi are beautiful ( the temperature of the nigiri rice is always perfect and so many places struggle with that) and the scallop dish and the desserts absolutely gorgeous. I am sure I am boring everyone I know telling them how great it is! Can’t wait to visit MUSU again soon.

My first visit to Musu and it really didn’t disappoint! The best quality food and amazing service by all the team! Every course was explained thoroughly as it arrived at the table. Such a good experience and can’t wait to visit again in the future!

Wow! I can honestly say that was one of the best experiences of my life. Me and my partner keep talking about how much we enjoyed it. From the food, to the service and presentation; everything was spot on. A massive shout out to our servers who made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. Jasiu was our waiter, he carefully explained each dish and was very attentive. Nikolai, who provided the wine for each course was very knowledgeable and created a personal experience. Each staff member we encountered was so lovely, honestly the nicest team! Will highly recommend this to friends and family.

Wow wow wow! What an amazing tasting menu experience! From the minute we entered the restaurant , we were warmly greeted, all the way to the end of the evening! We had a drink in the bar area whilst our table was being set up. The ambiance took us to Japan with large screens all over the restaurant showing scenes of the country. We were in awe whilst the bartenders make cocktails and the chefs making sashimi. Could sit there all evening! We got our table at the back of the restaurant and sat on the swivel seat and felt like we had ringside seats watching the action of the open kitchen. The chefs were busy cooking and plating up various dishes! It was a joy to see! We booked the 12 course Land of the Rising Sun tasting menu! It did not disappoint! The chefs that made each course plated up with flair, precision, and made it a work of art! We loved every dish and savoured every moment! The sashimi was so fresh and simple, it let the ingredients do the talking! We also had most of the mocktails during the course of the evening and they were delightful!! Such a brilliant evening, that we shall we return again!

Ate a la carte so was seated at the sushi bar. Inadequate space for people to walk past so we were bumped against through out the meal Food was very tasty But over priced. I've eaten a lot of sushi, both in the UK and in Japan. Glad there was a discount offer going on. Reckon I'd have to spend easily £200 to be full.

The first time we dined at Musu was on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately that night was ruined by vandals who smashed the façade of the restaurant and the night ended there for us. I was really disappointed to not have been able to try any of the exquisite food we heard so much about. Then, we were amazingly surprised when we got invited back in by Musu for a complimentary meal. This was a really unexpected and in all honesty an incredibly nice gesture from Musu’s management. That’s CUSTOMER SKILLS FOR YOU. We scheduled another visit for today and we finally were able to have the 8-course tasting experience. Needless to say that when I first had a taste of the sashimi and nigiri, I was immediately transported back on the streets of Tokyo. The exquisiteness and freshness of the raw fish reminded me of these long summer nights spent discovering the beautiful city of Tokyo. The slices used for the sashimi were small but graciously thick enough for me to fully immerse myself in the experience. And the nigiri were, well, out of this world. Every bite seemed to be a taste of food that you would expect they serve up there in Heaven. The restaurant itself is a beautiful piece of art. The walls are printed with astonishing pictures of different cities of Japan and the staff truly love what they do, which made the experience unique.

Fantastic food, brilliant service, all in all a great experience.

Very disappointed in our visit to Musu, we booked a few months in advance and was called an hour before to say we’d be dining ‘at the bar’ away from the restaurant. This was not at all in our booking. The experience was really poor as it meant we were the only ones dining around people who were having pre-drinks before they were taken through to the restaurant. Based on this, we didn’t enjoy our food, left early and won’t be returning. It was extremely disrespectful to have been treated that way as a customer who’d booked well in advance and was looking forward to celebrating a special meal.
