Terrible service - didn’t try the food as the staff ignored us rather than taking our order, until we just left

It was lovely food however there was two Chicken pieces salad and chips it would have been more manageable if there was one as they were of a substantial portion. It was across the road from the British museum and has interesting historical value. The staff were polite and there wasn't a wait for food would all round recommend even though it can get quite busy. Reasonably priced

Overall great pub expirience. Tourity place with good beer and food. Duck was fantastic, fish was nicely portioned and they also do decent burgers. A bit ptiecy , but right accross Museum so I asume its expected to be like that. We had a drink at 1pm, as place was packed so did not managed to get a table, spend few hours in Museum and came back after pm, was perfect , not packed anymore, pleanty tables to choose from. Food came fast , staff been friendly and helpfull, overall good visit at this tavern.Recomend

Pub just infont of British Museum main entrance. Small and cosy. Tables are very close by so can get to know people sitting just next to you. Very touristy place which offers good range of traditional cask beer. Them own Museum Tavern bitter was really good - recommended by staff. The fish was delicious and generous portion. Staff friendly and helpful if you need any advice how to get somewhere.

Cozy. Chill. Historic. Price is very reasonable being right across the street from the British Museum. Food was really good. Not the best but very good. Fish and chips was definitely worth the price. We just traveled in from the US needing devices charge and Chandni was so very helpful and understanding all while taking care of all the other tables.

Beautiful tavern - right across British Museum! Has that old atmosphere built in the walls. We enjoyed our stay came just before 12pm, it was nice and quiet than. Our food was delicious and served extremely quick. I really enjoyed my fish & chips. Quick and really friendly service! Recommend to visit if you are around. Also try the Duck Hash it was looking really tasty!

Good pub. We gad dinner on Tuesday night, not too crowded, nice atmosphere with some table candles. Slightly dark if you sit in the corner, but it’s a pub so expected. Good service, quick, friendly and helpful. Steak pie and mash was delicious! Recommend

Visited on Monday evening, so it was really peaceful. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Food looked delicious, but we stopped by after dinner for drinks only. Will definitely return to try them fish & chips as it smelled and looked really tasty. Friendly service and great experience overall

Ordered a Sunday roast and it took forever until the food came and when it finally came I only got 2 really thin slices of meat while the table beside me got at least triple the amount of meat.

The food was certainly okay in terms of quantity and taste, you got more than enough! The service was almost nothing, we made a reservation for 2 and upon arrival we were allowed to find someone to guide us to a table, on top of that nothing was reserved for us and we had to disturb other people for a table. to be able to share. No smile or apology for the inconvenience. You have to order at the bar and then you have to pay immediately... only the woman was friendly and asked how the food was afterwards. You have to go for the atmosphere, it is a typical 'old' café where you sit on each other's laps because of the limited space.

Had a couple of days holiday in London. Came here before and after going to the museum. This is a very nice place, friendly staff, good beers and good food. Esoecially the steak and ale pie was very good. And the portion sizes were very good, you don't leave feeling hungry! Overall a very nice place, lots of people at any given time so finding a place can be difficult. Beer was very good, although not cold enough

The Museum Tavern was very busy, which is always a good start. We soon found a table and perused the menu. The menu had something for everyone. With our food and drink choices complete, I went to the bar to place the order. The order was dealt with very quickly. It seemed the barman was very familiar with his menu. Drinks were soon prepared and back on our table. The pub has a nice atmosphere and a decor which reflects how pubs used to be 40 years ago. Minus the food of course. Our food order came in an acceptable time. The food was very hot and extremely tasty. Using the rest room is a bit of a trail. Down the stairs to the depths of the building. The bill for our food and drinks were very much on a par with other outlets in the area. All in all a pleasant experience.

Worth every penny and more! Excellent kitchen with great quality dishes. Right across from the British Museum. A place to go back to!

Went here for dinner. I chose the duck and it was gorgeous. Sat on a bed of seared cabbage with sautéed sliced new potatoes and a fried egg on top. The duck fell away from the bone and melted in the mouth, delicious. Hubby had steak and ale pie which he really enjoyed. Well worth the visit.

It's definitely the place to get a good cold beer after visiting the British Museum

Cute pub in the heart of the city. The Karl Marx aura is apparent. The food is alright and reasonably priced. Drinks not too shabby. Service is friendly and fast, but order yourself at the counter. No bill or total given to you before paying apparently unless you ask for one.

Right across the road from The British Museum, our table kept wobbling so spilling our drinks when we moved our arms or suchlike !

A little nice old pub. A small but nice variety of beers on tap, including cask beers. Friendly service, typical prices for tourists area. Indoor and outdoor seating.

My bag was stolen inside the pub this afternoon. The staff could not care less.

I was finally able to eat meat in London without sauce, just raw, for not too much money. They also make gluten-free burger buns, which my partner loved. It's really not a bad place to go.

Had a great experience at the Museum Tavern in London. The steak sandwich was delicious—juicy and flavorful, and the pie was outstanding with its rich filling and flaky crust. Fabulous food and friendly service

Got the battered halloumi and it was very good! 6 pieces, so a smaller serving size but, what do you want for a "bar bite?" A really nice spot for after a long walk in the museum.

Wow - the chicken Kyiv was really delicious. Beautiful pub. Busy, but you can make a reservation. Large selection of beer and wine. Great location - just outside of the British Museum.

Friendly and helpful staff, more attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the environment. Cleaning not done properly. Very good fries and sandwiches. Very courteous staff.

Typical London pub opposite the British Museum. We stopped for lunch after visiting the museum. I ate excellent garlic bread, very good beers and average prices for the city. They forgot to serve us a course but as soon as we pointed it out they were quick to resolve it and asked us if we wanted another drink offered by the house as compensation to apologise. Very kind staff. Generally great experience, recommend!

A real English pub with good dark English beers. I ate a traditional fish & chips where I was surprised by the size of the piece of fish. The service is very efficient and courteous. Honestly, even with the conversion between the British pound and the Canadian dollar, the cost of the meal with the beer is really very affordable. The "look" of the pub is truly traditional with the very varnished brown woodwork and the layout of the bar. Lovely meat pies and Museum Ale by the British Museum!

It is literally in front of the British Museum, I understand that it is a bar 100% for tourists. The fish & chips are delicious, it costs about 17 pounds and two people can easily eat one plate. Drinks cost £5 each soda. It is very rich and well located, it has a large terrace, something that the neighboring establishments do not generally have. They take a long time to serve, about 30 minutes, so if you are in a hurry it may not be the best place. But the quality of the food is very good.

Peckish after spending half a day at the British museum so after walking around we popped in for a bit of lunch. It was crowded but we were able to grab a table. As expected, most of the customers were tourists but there were some locals there too. Hubby decided on the pea and mint soup and I, the beef and raclette pie. We also had the cider on tap and an ale (London Pride). We didn't have to wait too long for our food after ordering at the bar counter. Hubby really liked his soup-very flavorful. The beef pie was served with mash and roasted cabbage. The beef and cheese flavors came thru- the gravy was bit salty but tasty. The staff was was very friendly considering they were busy with all the hungry customers coming in. Too bad I wasn't hungrier because I spotted a lamb shank shepherd's pie on the menu and they had a some kind of duck dish too. Oh well!

The food was quite good, although I feel that nearly $30 for bangers and mash with a house ale is a bit insane. If money isn’t a problem though, I recommend it.

Great spot for lunch break after busy morning in Museum. Delicious fish & chips, juicy burgers with great selection of traditional beers. We really enjoyed the food, it was cooked up to great standards. Quick and efficient service at the bar, even though the pub was fairly busy we did not had to wait long for food. Recommend to visit if you hungry.

Being in London, there is no shortage of pubs. We tried another location, and then discovered The Museum Tavern. Good food, good drink, good staff all at a reasonable price. If you are lucky enough to stay in the area- make this your "local". If visiting the museum across the street, a great spot to wet your whistle and have a bit.

I went to this pub in mid-June after going to the British Museum. I have never found more welcoming and kind staff. The food is great and the beer even better. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Booked a table here yesterday after a busy day exploring the area, booked online and had the booking confirmed. When we arrived the guy behind the bar couldn’t find my name on his list and when I showed him email confirmation he was very indignant and snapped “well I’ll just stick you on this table” had we not been so hungry I’d have told you where to stick your table. The food was good but the service here totally sucked.

My first place to try the famous fish and chips and it was delicious. Very nice place, and very good service. Perfect plan —> leave the British museum and eat here accompanied by a delicious beer.

Food was so good! The feta appetizer is a must. Cool place right across from the British Museum.

A very good place, the dresser was generally delicious and cheap. When we asked for the bill, we were shocked because they always pay around £60 but we ordered for 3 people and it came out to £30. Conclusion 11/10

Saturday 6th July . Popped in for a quick pint, quite but quite busy , no tables available. Friendly staff, good selection of Beers, Wines & Spirits. Maybe we will get to taste the food next time. Worth a visit, plenty of history

The highly recommended site. We went as a family after leaving the British museum and it was a total success. Very good quality-price ratio. My eleven year old daughter loved the "museum tavern burger" dish. To repeat.

Sunday roast with Berries cider is a great combination. I enjoy it. The location is quite busy, but the pub is cosy inside. P.S. Staff is very friendly.

Great location. Range of ale is pretty darn good. Staff were very accommodating on our several visits over the weekend. Inside is a great layout and, weather permitting, sitting/standing outside is fine. I pop in when I can but 200 miles stops it being my local.

They recommended it to me to eat when leaving the Museum and I was delighted. We ordered the Steak & Ale Pie and it is the best I had in the UK, in fact I will go again today and order the same.

We had a lovely lunch after visiting the British Museum. The pub's atmosphere was quiet and relaxing even if there were quite a few customers and the restaurant was busy. They had no annoying radio/music in the background. Service was kind and efficient, I'd definitely go back.

After seeing the museum you need to refuel and this restaurant did it without a doubt, good food and a good price

Jolly traditional pub. It may be full tourists since near the British Museum but has a wide, diverse choice of beers than most pubs surprisingly. Easy, safe choice for casual drinks.

Delicious beef and ale pie. Love the chips. The server didn’t know how to pour a Guinness, though. It’s full of tourists but still has some charm.

Food did look good but haven't tried it love coming in for a beer Guinness is a lovely pint staff are nice and Karl Marx used to drink here what more could you ask for

The Sunday roast chicken was superb and we will be back next Sunday for a repeat! Crowded and noisy (get over it, it's a British pub not a restaurant) Have fun. You can call ahead and reserve a table which is advised for the busy hours. Convenient location near the British Museum.

We ate a few times in this pub last week because our Airbnb was really close, it was great every time ! Great staff, great atmosphere and great food. The fish and chips is out of this world ! Thank you !

Ideally located opposite the British Museum for a meal or a drink after wandering the museum's paths. Traditional pub, beautiful facade, beautiful interior decoration. Beers, soda (try the elderberry one), gins and classic dishes, the fisc and chips is good, the onion thongs too, the nachos as starters to share and other classics

The meat pie was excellent while the fillet requested rare arrived well done. You order at the counter, so the opinion on the service is difficult to evaluate. Ideal for a pre or post British Museum stop. Prices normal

A traditional London pub with a relaxing atmosphere, directly opposite the British Museum. Not an extensive menu, but the traditional pub classics of fish and chips and chicken Kyiv were delicious, good portions and well presented. Excellent range of real ales; we stuck to the Twickenham Gold, but there were 3 others that we'd have enjoyed given more time. The two staff running the bar were very efficient and smiled frequently, not always an easy thing to do in a busy pub. Serve-yourself tap water was a good idea. My only criticism is that the coffee and tea are not available on the menu, perhaps something the management might like to consider.
