The past few times I've been to Dumfries, I always stop in to Mrs Greens Tea Lounge for some cake and a mug of something hot--or, in this case, for some lunch. The service is always friendly, the atmosphere inviting, and the food tasty. Highly recommend!

What a great little place! Lots of lovely things on the menu, something to suit everyone in our party of 4. Special mention for the breakfasts, great that they are served all day! Thanks for making a special order for the youngest in our family too, she really enjoyed her ‘just cheese’ toastie. Highly recommend and we will look forward to returning on our next holiday in Dumfries and Galloway.

Sadly been in twice now and been disappointed both times. First time the breakfast and burger was fantastic but they forgot the chips we had ordered. When chips finally arrived they were cold, half cooked frozen chips and a tiny portion. Decided to give the place another try today, same order as last time however even worse this time as waited half an hour for food only to be told that they had lost our order and that they had now ran out of sausages for the breakfast and would an extra hashbrown be OK instead. Decided to leave without eating after expressing our dismay to the staff. We won't be giving the place a third go that's for sure!!

My partner and I came in for lunch as I remember having really great vegan food at Mrs Green's a while back and they had a "full vegan menu" sign outside. We weren't waiting too long for our order to be taken, and I looked over the vegan menu before deciding on the avocado and chilli salad, my partner had a pulled pork ciabatta sandwich and we ordered rosemary chips to share. When the food came over, I spotted a big spoonful of mayonnaise-y potato salad in the bowl so I asked the lovely young girl behind the till if it was vegan. I would've honestly been happy to pick around it if not, I hadn't specified that it needed to be vegan and we all know what they say about making assumptions. She called the manager over to ask, and this woman was so rude to me that I sort of panicked and said that she could just take it back and I didn't need anything else. I sat back down and honestly just started crying, I have never been made to feel so embarrassed and stupid in a cafe before and it made me feel dreadful for the rest of the day. I was as polite as I could be, and I sort of expect that to be returned when paying for a service. I've worked in hospitality for years, and I can quite honestly say that I would immediately be out of a job if I spoke to anyone the way that I was spoken to. The ciabatta was "alright", the portion of chips was tiny and they were reminiscent of supermarket own brand fries with a sprinkle of dried rosemary on top. My partner paid and the manager was equally as rude to her, stating that the salad would have to be thrown away so she asked for it to be boxed up so that we could bring it back to my parents' for them to enjoy. It took quite a while for the salad to be popped into a box, so I think it may have just been remade (the potato salad was missing from the box, the feta cheese was not so it wasn't even remade as a vegan salad). My parents said that it tasted incredibly vinegary with shop bought couscous, so unfortunately the majority of it ended up in the bin anyway.

Lovely fresh gluten-free food, I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious, and my sibling had the vegan sausage sandwich, and they really enjoyed theirs too. Beautiful cosy little place, cosy and comfortable, very helpful staff when I visited helped me get my wheelchair inside. The best part? Their gluten-free carrot cake, lovely texture, full of flavours, nicely spiced and delicious. Will be back for more cake soon! I love lemon cakes especially.... The only tiny drawback for me was that I found the music a little loud, I prefer it to be more in the background. I have ADHD and find music intrusive at the wrong volume, though. I didn't ask for it to be turned down, and I'm sure the owners would have been happy to if I'd asked. I'm not very good at asking though. It would be awesome to have a quiet time, maybe once a week, for us ND folk, and also those who struggle to hear in noisier places. Overall though, the music wasn't that important, compared to the overall experience, which was very enjoyable. Wish I'd taken photos again!

Had the breakfast plate £8:50, this included Cumberland sausage , when we got our order there was an extremely small amount of beans in a small separate dish, an egg, two well cooked small rashes of bacon, toast and a very thin almost see through round flat patty thing, no Cumberland sausage and to be honest it was very overpriced At the till I very nicely explained that the breakfast plate we had chosen was because of the Cumberland sausage, I was told that they had ran out…. It was not busy, I said “could we have not been told that prior to ordering?” You still got Galloway sausage I was told , I didn’t think we had sausage at all? I was charged £8:50 for this which I was not very happy about as I think the ingredients, few beans, white toast, egg and potato scone were prob less than half that I know it’s hard for everyone, we never go out for lunch as it’s too expensive and £20 for our food is a lot and as a treat we want it to be nice, it just didn’t feel like a treat, sorry but disappointed

Came here for breakfast as a gluten free vegetarian person. I ended up having avocado toast with poached eggs which was nice, but I'm not a huge avocado fan. There weren't many other options though, as the sausages etc for the vegetarian breakfast contained wheat, so it was a choice of the avocado, or a plate of beans and eggs... The coffee was nice though and it looked like they had a selection of gluten free cakes, so I'd go back and try those, but probably wouldn't bother with the breakfast again.

The café which is located in the centre of the town has a very random interior look about it. An eclectic mix of furnishings and similarly mixed crockery - perhaps a garage sale design. It wasn’t overly warm either on my visit during November 2023 and I kept my jacket on for much of the duration. That said, staff were pleasant and, although the service was slow (for which I received an apology), when the food arrived it was nice enough and good value. I had a salmon and cream cheese bagel which came along with a salad garnish and some crisps all served upon a slate (£7.50). I had a regular cup of Americano coffee (£2.60) which was nice but was almost finished by the time the food arrived. It was fairly busy at the time with sit-in and takeaway custom so they must be popular but based on my experience it may be the price which is the driving factor . Personally I wouldn’t be likely to revisit or to recommend for sit-in purposes.

Mrs Green thinks her customers are unclean so wants them to sanitise their hands. An elaborate sign just inside the door proclaims this. If health matters to Mrs Green perhaps more effort might be put into keeping the place clean? A whole body steam clean of customers upon entry perhaps? Not a welcoming place for actual human beings! Stopped off here last week for breakfast around 10 o'clock. I had a fantastic coffee and the best bacon sandwich I have tasted in years all served with a smile and charm. The sandwich was one of those I hoped would never end. The decor is great too and oh they were playing Fleetwod Mac (Christine McVie had just died althought that might have been a coincidence.) As it’s a small popular place booking in advance is probably recommended. We were looking for a table on a Saturday night during the Spring Fling event in the region so left a message with the restaurant whilst traveling to Kirkcudbright. The owner returned the call and fortunately, thanks to a cancellation, was able to arrange our reservation for dinner the following night - a promising start. On the evening of our visit the bistro was busy however there was still a relaxed ambiance about the place. The sole waitress taking orders and attending to the tables was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable about the menu and the only other member of staff appeared to be the owner/chef. He popped out and chatted with us towards the end of service to allow the waitress to get home as a few diners like us were finishing off drinks and still to receive their desserts and settle their bills. He seemed sociable and relaxed and clearly hadn’t adopted the Gordon Ramsay approach to the restaurant business. Being a small place we were not surprised at the outset that the menu was limited to about half a dozen items per course including specials however it gave a decent choice in our view. We both ordered a “special” for starters - Tempura Battered Prawns (£7.95). As was the case throughout the evening, the dish was served up to the table in good time. Six king prawns each with a sweet chilli sauce with a salad garnish and balsamic. It was a tasty start. For mains my wife ordered the Seabass, served with king prawns, a white wine & tomato sauce and fresh vegetables (£21.00). I had Duck a L’Orange (£21.95) which was another item from the specials board. Neither of the mains dishes would be winning prizes for presentation however most importantly they both tasted good. The fish was nicely cooked and my wife enjoyed the other parts of the dish. The duck was also good albeit the chef was later surprised I’d left the fat on the plate. I queried if people normally ate the fat and he commented that they often do and that he rendered it to make it more appealing. Thankfully this was not an overly fatty duck breast in any case but I was quite happy to leave the small amount I did on the plate. For dessert my wife had Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream and I had a Citrus Tart served with a small selection of fresh berries and cream. The puddings were £6.50 each and both enjoyable. Overall we liked our experience at the bistro and with our three course meal for two costing just under £72 we thought it was reasonable value for money. We had added a bottle of NZ Yealands Sauvignon Blanc wine for £25 only just keeping the bill under £100. A walk to the harbour to watch the sunset as we headed back to our accommodation rounded off the evening well.

A lovely place to visit with very friendly, helpful owners. They were very accomodating with food intolerances, and the meals we chose were excellent, good prices too, would recommend to others.

Absolutely gutted to find this place had ceased trading, since our last visit in August 22. This hidden gem was part of our journey down south for the past 7 years, after stumbling on it by accident. It offered a hearty meal for a fraction of the price they charge, at a service station
