Mr MacGregor's in East Renfrewshire

Lovely BLT and chips with a pot of tea served in a gorgeous earthenwear pot. Great service too. The toilets are gorgeous and immaculately clean, which I always feel is a great sign....overall great experience.

We ordered the mussels, fish and chips and the steak. Mussels and fish were great, well cooked and nicely seasoned. The steak was awful. Ordered medium rare and served bordering on well-done, butterflied and completely dry and flavourless. There were no check backs on our table during our mains (probably because the only server was rushed off his feet) otherwise we would have requested a replacement. However, when the server came to clear our plates, he didn't comment on the uneaten steak nor ask how our meal was. At this point my wife notified him of the steak and instead of taking on board the information and rectifying the situation the server, lovely and personable though he was, proceeded to explain cuts of steak (which my wife is well versed in, having worked in many kitchens over the years). My wife explained this, and the server went to get his manager. The manager then came over with the same spiel, which sounded as though he frequently has this conversation, talked over myself and my wife, and was very rude and dismissive. We then asked for the bill and were given one total, then the server quickly apologised and gave us a corrected higher bill. We were astounded to see they were still charging us for the steak even when it was uneaten and no replacement offered. When we explained, we were happy to pay for the food we ate, but we were unwilling to pay the £5 supplement for the steak we were met with resistance. After further resistance from the manager he then offered to wave the £5 supplement "as a gesture of goodwill" and to know "that in the future that would not be given again" as that is how the steak is served in "all of his sites". The server then came back with a rectified bill in which they had taken off all supplements (for mussels etc too) which was a nice gesture however the dismissive and argumentative attitude of the manager has left us never wanting to return. We have run kitchens in bars and restaurants for 10 years and have not had a steak or service like that. Not only that, but the dismissive attitude to very reasonable and polite feedback was frankly astounding. We wouldn't usually leave such a review, opting to communicate feedback via email instead. However, as the manager will no doubt be as dismissive with an email as he is in person, we have no other choice. There should be a review on your service cycle, to ensure that complaints and feedback are corrected in a timely manner and change in attitude when resolving customers issues - customers are paying for the experience of being in your establishment as well as the food they order.

I came here for afternoon tea, excited by the great reviews, but unfortunately, I found it to be very disappointing (especially given the price!) The sandwiches and sweet treats were very basic, and I was surprised that only two of each item were served for three people. The scones were dense and tasteless (more like bread) and the jam and cream didn't taste fresh. We were the only ones there on a Sunday afternoon, so the atmosphere was quiet, though the staff did eventually put on music after about 45 minutes. The place itself is lovely, with beautiful interior design, and the staff were friendly, so I’d consider coming back for dinner, but I’d recommend skipping the afternoon tea.

Celebrating a 30th , we where in the conservatory which was amazing as we had a 2 year old,from the moment we arrived the staff amazing, food fantastic a great night had by all including the 2 year old.Definitely worth a visit.x

My friend and I visited yesterday for dinner to celebrate my engagement. From the minute we walked in at 5pm till we left at 9pm the service was exceptional! Waitress and waiter both super friendly and lovely. We got chatting to the manager waiter at the end and he was made for that job. Such a credit to the restaurant and the food was really 10/10. Didnt feel rushed to leave even though we were the only ones in at that time. £109 for 2 starters 2 sunday roast mains (the best ive had!) 10 unreallll cocktails and 2 soft drinks! Well worth it and will be back soon! Thanks ❤️

Hats off to the interior designers. The decor is glorious. It’s classy, comfortable and refined. Nice enough to enjoy some leisurely daytime brunch and special enough to justify evening dining. Friendly service and a nicely curated menu. Portions generous. Prices affordable. It’s not as technically competent as the very best brunch spots I’ve tried but it’s a worthy competitor to any upscale cafe or glasgow eatery. On this occasion we used an Itison deal and the waiting staff were more than helpful and accommodating to our navigation through the menu. Often this is not the case so credit to them.

Quiet Sunday evening, so not expecting the place to be busy. Sunday menu limited, roast sirloin very disappointing, stringy (steak knife struggled to cut through it), not particularly hot and the enormous Yorkshire puddings were tasteless.

This is a great hidden gem in Muirend. The menu is varied and top notch. The service is great and there is a nice vibe to the place. A regular for dinner but I've noticed a few small functions in their conservatory when I've been there so obviously good for a small party. Absolutely worth a visit.

Loved the detail of the restaurant. Friendly welcome, Chris the manager was very attentive also funny. Food was presented well and delicious, full fry up but no one bit of grease well done.

Had booked an afternoon tea for this morning, and it was great. Gina was absolutely lovely. They were so accommodating of our dietary requirements and the food was delicious and a great portion for the two of us, as we couldn’t finish it all. The sandwiches were lovely and the sweet treats were delicious too, and the scones and tea was perfect. We didn’t have to wait long at all for the food to come out. Overall throughly pleased and would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back.

This is the 2nd time I have been. I had an Itison voucher 2 courses for £39 plus a glass of sparkly. The food was very nice and I enjoyed it all, the sparkly was easily switched to a red which was very nice but most of all the service and general ambiance of the place was just superb. I was taking my Mum out for a belated Mother’s Day meal and I couldn’t have picked better. The waitress was so attentive and genuinely nice without being over bearing and just so pleasant which was a joy. Loved it and I will be back again for sure. 😀

We went to Mr MacGregor's for lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. Our plans changed a bit last minute, but Claire was so helpful, friendly and accomodating that it didn't affect our visit at all. Food was fabulous and service couldn't be any better! We're definitely coming back! Big THANK YOU to all team!

One of the best local brunch spots. I haven't tried it for anything else but they also seem to have a good collection of gin behind the bar - some are quite high end/premium. The atmosphere is really nice too and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended. I like the eggs benedict on sourdough.

Food is fantastic, service not so much. Had a 1pm reservation, was seated just before then. Didn’t get served our first course until 1:55pm. Unfortunately this was not a one-off either, this was us giving them one last chance after an identical experience at our last visit. Such a shame as the food is fantastic, but the service means we will not be returning.

Beautiful brunch with my faves. We visited earlier today to enjoy brunch in celebration of a family birthday. Although part of our party was looking forward to Sunday roast our early booking (12.15) meant that it was the brunch menu being served. In the end everyone in the party enjoyed their choices of food. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive. We were well looked after by Carol and Jack despite it being a busy time in the restaurant

We booked breakfast here on Saturday morning for my birthday, and we were left very disappointed and unwell. The manager/waiter was very nice, gave us money off our bill due to a still-frozen side and the long, long wait for our food, but nobody enjoyed it or had a great experience. My poached eggs were hard, two of the meals were luke warm. All edible, but not great. We only realised we were meant to have beans on two of the breakfasts when we checked the menu later in the afternoon - I guess we didn’t even realise as we were ravenous after the long wait. Two of our party also fell sick a few hours after. We once ate outside a year or so ago and loved that there were smaller breakfast options like granola and porridge - these weren’t on the new menu, which is a shame. Sadly, we won’t be back.

Service very very slow, people who came in after got served 20 mins before us, they said they were short staffed today but only explained this after complaints were made. Why take customers in when you don't have enough staff to serve them? You should warn people when they come in so they're not sitting around getting annoyed. Food was bland and very average, and considering the 50 minute wait for it, not worth it and won't be back sadly. Shame as it is a nice vibe in there!

Well, after leaving a 5 star review I’m now regretting it! I certainly wasn’t welcomed back as your reply stated! I have been raving about this place to my husband so on Saturday morning we decided to make the 20 minute drive over to the restaurant again for some brunch. When we got inside the place it wasn’t very busy but we still stood for 5 minutes being ignored by the male member of staff, he didn’t acknowledge us at all then when he eventually came over he asked if we had a reservation, well there was about half a dozen people in so didn’t think we needed one? He told us that they were expecting a large party in and couldn’t accommodate us for another hour and a half so we left very disappointed. I then went outside and could book a table online in half an hour? Seems our face didn’t fit. Moral of the story is if I come back and that’s a big IF it will be during the week when the nice female waiter is on and not the grumpy male one with his nose in the air!! This little gem was fab! Amazing lunch today with family, staff were lovely and the food was fantastic, best scrambled egg I’ve ever had! I will definitely be back

Great style, not enough substance. Great tasting food but disappointingly over-cooked. The waiter was very friendly, but a little overconfident and lacked knowledge about the menu. Not an unpleasant experience but I wouldn't rush back.

I never leave reviews but this place is literally such a good wee restaurant. I've had breakfast and lunch here and both times its been amazing and the price is really good for the quality of food. Staff are really nice and cocktails/mocktails are fab too. highly recommended

Brilliant wee place, been past so many times and finally came in for a prosecco afternoon tea. Loads of food, delicious cakes and sandwiches, we were all stuffed. Lovely cocktails too. Can't wait to come back and sample some more.

Got an afternoon tea for 2 as a present, never been here before but would definitely come back. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The afternoon tea had a good selection of savory wraps and cakes which were delicious and the coffee was lovely.

Great portion for Sunday roast. The gravy was proper, you can taste the wine. The beef was roasted to perfection, that's important. Slightly sweetened glazed cauliflower, shown attention to detail by the chef. Potatoes roasted Beautifully. Fluffy inside and crisp outside If you love truffle, the truffle cauliflower soup would be a delight. I also wondered where they got their bread from, they were delicious! Fluffy toasts. The chef did a great job. Will be back.

Just had an Afternoon Tea which I would describe as ok I'm afraid. Too many wraps and ciabatta bread....... much prefer dainty sandwiches! Tea was luke warm after 2nd cup. Will definitely come back, but not for an Afternoon Tea unfortunately.

Food wasnt bad, had a burger - not worth £15 however. Asked for no mayonnaise on burger, yet it was served with mayonnaise on it. No one came to check on us during meal so couldn't point it out to anyone so just had to scrape it off. Luckily i just dont like mayonnaise and didnt have an allergy

A nice cosy atmosphere with great service and an amazing breakfast!

We were in with our children to meet friends. We were seated in the conservatory bit of the restaurant which meant half of the party were blinded by the sun throughout. We assumed we were put there because the other tables inside had been booked and would fill up soon, but the place remained almost completely empty. The food was okay, though nothing you couldn’t get in a multitude of other eateries nearby. There was also a hair in one dish which was replaced promptly, but I didn’t think staff were overly apologetic. I would have been mortified in their position. In general, the service was mediocre at best. We were made to feel we were an inconvenience throughout. I don’t think the waiting staff smiled once. It’s a shame as we had high hopes, but we’ll definitely not be back and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Lively atmosphere- if you're looking for a quiet Saturday this wouldn't be it. But the food, service etc make up for that. The caesar salad is plentiful and delicious. Fish goujons superb.

Had afternoon tea yesterday -Sunday with my daughters. Nothing was too much trouble for staff and afternoon tea beautifully presented and tasted lovely. Would definitely recommend. Thank you all staff.

This is in no way what you would call afternoon tea. Big doorstop sandwiches you can't get your mouth round. Couldn't get a red wine alternative, and had to buy separately. Waited way too long given the level of customers. Not value for money, wouldn't go back.

Our table of 4 and another table of 2 were chucked out!! We booked our table for 8.15 p.m. on a Friday night we were not advised at time of booking that they close at 9.30 p.m.!!! On a Friday???? Never heard of anything so ridiculous! It wasn't full and seemed to just have one guy serving with the manager behind the bar. We had to ask for drinks. I decided to skip starters & go for desert instead. After ordering we noticed the specials board which we weren't told about. The waiter checked with the kitchen and I was able to change my order. The portions were small. My friends was served in a teacup!! Food was nice enough however the whole experience wasn't. We asked to order puddings and coffee an we were told at 10.10 pm that they were actually supposed to close at 9.30 pm so we couldn't order anything else. Was it our fault that it took 2 hours for one course? We were offered coffees to take away with us which we declined!! Our night was saved by going to the lovely wee winebar a few doors down. We met the other table who were chucked out and taken refuge there too. They also didn't get deserts. All 6 of us agreed we will not be back and would definitely not recommend!!

In last night for dinner and had a great experience! The food was delicious, the vibe of the restaurant was perfect, and the service was brilliant. The lovely bearded gentleman that was serving had a great mannerism and was very attentive. One thing I hope to see in the future (because we’ll be back for sure!) are some more vegetarian options on the menu as surprisingly there was only one out of the ten-ish options.

Came here for our 5th wedding anniversary meal after reading the good reviews and we were not disappointed!! Complimentary glasses of bubbly on arrival. Service was great, food was out of this world. Will definitely be back.

Wifey and I popped in for dinner. Mussels for starters for moi and ham hough with biscuits and picaliliy for her indoors. Jesus, to behold. Main meal was just as good with my good lady having the steak (well done as per (poor upbringing)) and myself had the shoulder of lamb with leek and fennel spice on them. All to die for and reasonably priced. Thanks folks.

4 of us went to Mr MacGregors, Clarkston road, for afternoon tea. What beautiful surroundings, we where in the small but pretty conservatory where we enjoyed our afternoon tea with great choice of sandwiches and wraps and as always plenty of cake, Prosecco enjoyed too. The sun was warm that day so even though the windows where open and a staff member put on the air conditioner we moved into the inside of MacGregors to stay cool and have a few more drinks The staff where very helpful and attentive. As the cafe/restaurant is on a busy road there is a small car park adjoining it which is great. All in all a great afternoon

On the website it states that it is wheelchair accessible. I phoned to book a table to be told that there is a fairly large step into the premises. How is that wheelchair accessible? Ridiculous!

Visited for brunch today. Food and service were absolutely great and we definitely would recommend to visit if you are hungry and nearby. The only downside for me today was that I booked a table in conservatory but when we arrived there was no space for us in the conservatory.

We have passed this place so often and never even stepped in till recently. So glad we did, good food, good service and very pleasant place to sit and chat with friends.

Really helpful staff, went with a coeliac family member and had to ask for advice re gluten free options - they fully explained the menu, offered alternatives and ensured it was fully gf. Great service and great food.
