Mr Lam in Preston

Been several times, as a couple, a family and as a large group. Each time the food has never been anything other than exceptional. So tasty and fresh. Between us we have been through the menu nearly and none of us can fault anything on the menu. It is so good for Preston to have such a high standard Chinesse restaurant rather than the normal pile it high sell it cheap Chinesse buffet. The service is normally very good, the ring a bell push a button from your table is also a very good idea. Can’t wait to return again. Thank you Mr Lams.

Dined at Mr Lam's last night after hearing rave reviews over the years and having sampled his amazing salt and pepper chips at a party a few years back. Love the fact that they do the 4 in 1 buffet as I don't think you can ever commit yourself to just 1 dish at a Chinese. We both picked 1 dish each and then shared the other 6 between us. The salt and pepper chips were amazing, as was the egg fried rice. The spring rolls were really tasty but I wasn't a fan of the texture, it was almost like a pureed filling which I've never come across before in a spring roll. The salt and pepper wings were apparently really nice, but I was disappointed with the salt and pepper chicken- compared to the chips I felt the flavour was really lacking. The black pepper & garlic chicken didn't hit the mark for me either, but the sweet and sour chicken and crispy sweet chilli beef were amazing. I'm a slow eater and found the food went cold really quickly, maybe a note for the restaurant to serve their dishes on warmed plates, but I still enjoyed the meal. Found the restaurant to be surprisingly quiet for 8pm on a Friday night, but service was quick and efficient and I really liked the pay as you go and buzzer for service concept. Would definitely revisit.

The food here is so hot and fresh, large family meal for 30 people and we all had the buffet choice from the menu all came within reasonable time and was super tasty

Date night, right choice. Venue hadn’t changed much since it was the Italian, few plastic flowers and the strange buzzer system. Also different that you pay as you order, or when they bring the first drinks. Once you get used to that it’s a very nice restaurant with a friendly atmosphere . We shared 3 starters,then I had special rice and my partner had the spicy special. All food was beautifully presented. Fresh, quality, hot and decent portion size. My special rice was filling, lots of meats and prawns in an omelette case. The Peroni was just over £5 a pint so about normal prices. Definitely a good choice for couples, friends and groups. I will recommend this and we will return soon.

The surroundings were great the waitress explained to us about the buzzer system on each of the tables which was a great idea. On ordering the meal from a very limited menu choiceI ordered Akins prawn chow mien I asked the waitress on numerous occasions if it was too spicy she assured me it wasn’t because I actually told her I don’t like things too spicy again she assured me that it was mild. The starters arrived and were mediocre then my main course arrived I took a couple of mouthfuls and my mouth was on fire. We buzzed for someone to come but sadly someone else had buzzed at the same time. On the main course not even 1 waitress came over to ask if everything was ok. We eventually buzzed again and finally the waitress came over and I asked her for some water and I asked her to take away the meal because it was burning my throat out. The waitresses then huddled round the tills and then the manageress came over to ask what was wrong - I told her about my experience and I was told that I had eaten 3/4s of the food on the plate ;(which I can assure you I didn’t) she even admitted that she hadn’t actually seen the food left on my plate and she also said that she was unaware as to what had happened. She told me she would take off 25% of my meal and the next time I went in she would give me a FREE drink. The 25% off the purely disgusting meal that was inedible to me was approximately £3 off the bill total. I eat out a lot with my family and I would never ever go there again. I contacted the restaurant via text message after my experience but sadly when they replied they offered to give me a better experience next time - sadly they won’t get the chance because I won’t go back after the whole experience..

This looks nice from the outside, and is in a great location near the bus station. The tables have buttons to call to order drinks, food etc. The food was ok, just enough for a meal to not be too heavy. Waiters/waitresses need to learn what customers order drinks wise, as on my table an order of a certain wine was ordered, but a different wine was delivered, which caused confusion when paying the bill.

I attended with a group of work friends. There were 8 of us in total and had booked ahead, allowing the restaurant to know our order in advance. We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant itself is lovely. Well decorated and smart. Love the open kitchen feel to it too, but it’s far enough away that it doesn’t cause an issue with noise etc. The staff greeted us and were happy and inviting as they should be. They checked our order and asked how we would like them served and when. They explained that they have a button system on the tables to request a waiter/waitress which was handy. The drink were flowing and food came soon after. Nice and hot and great portions. I ordered satay chicken skewers which were some of the best I’ve had. Thoroughly enjoyed! After a short time, mains arrived. I had salt and pepper chicken and egg fried rice. Presentation of the food was great. I looked at what other people had ordered and have envy of those that ordered the 4in1 buffet, they looked great. Food was hot and chicken was tender. Beautiful food and could just eat it again as I write this review. Drinks were average price for any bar and restaurant in Preston. Food was also well priced taking into account portion sizes, presentation, and how tasty and well cooked it was. I will be visiting again in the near future without a doubt. Check out their online menu on their website and gallery for pictures. It’s worth it, I will be choosing the 4in1 buffet next time, especially at the suitable price of £16.50 for 4 dishes!

We have been enjoying the food at Mr Lam for a long time and generally get takeaway due to having a young family. But on Saturday 16th we had a rare date night at the restaurant and couldn't fault it at all. Food was INCREDIBLE and staff were very helpful and attentive. We honestly couldn't fault it. Lily and all the team at Mr Lam never let us done.

The restaurant was quiet but the food was excellent despite the limited menu , do not expect your normal Chinese menu , the service was good but the having to pay before eating or drinking is not normal but can understand why it is in place . the only downside was when we walked in the person on the desk told us that it was fully booked and yet only 4 people were eating , annoying , but they did find us a table

Food was good. Portion size was not. Food took 1.5 hours to come. After speaking with the waitress we found out they have forgotten about us so we was just sitting waiting. Table over looked kitchen where staff looked unorganised. If you got time to spare, by all means go here

A must visit!!! You MUST BRING BACK THE BUFFET BOX!!! Little bit disappointed they stopped it. Perfect for takeaways too in the evening. Dining in is amazing too, really clean and great service.

Been looking forward to try Mr Lam’s for so long. Unfortunately, it was so disappointing. Our table wasn’t ready, which was fine, but when they took us to it it had no napkins, no cutlery etc. It was absolutely freezing and we had to keep coats on our laps to keep warm. They ran out of wine and when we ordered an alternative bottle, not only had the server never heard of it before, but we weren’t given even any glasses to drink it! We had to press the call button and wait 5 minutes to ask, and were then given dirty (food still on them) wet (from the dishwasher) gin glasses as they had run out of wine glasses! Then had to ask for cutlery. One of the party ordered a beer which was cloudy and had gone off. The coke glass had bits on it like it wasn’t quite clean. The starters were really tasty and main dishes were average. It just felt as though it was run completely by kids/students. Not a manager in sight and it showed.. none of the staff had any idea what was going on and felt a bit like I was in a sketch of Fawlty Towers. So gutted as I wanted to try it for so so long but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be recommending Mr Lam’s or returning.

I came in on a busy Saturday night however, the service I received was excellent. The staff are friendly and the food was excellent. I’d highly recommend the Coco Chicken or the buffet.

Group of 6 arrived without booking accommodated us, with a small wait. We each ordered a select 4 platter. The food service and custom was absolutely spot on and we would highly recommend
