Mr Chippy in County Durham

First, they take card payments so thats a plus. I was in a bind and needed something quick and hot for my 5 year old whilst awaiting an emergency doctors appointment in the building adjacent. Saw there was a childs meal deal option £3.50. Small sausage and some chips were the ony things ready to walk straight out with. Lady who served me was a bit blunt, seemed annoyed I just wanted food for my child, and then when asking if the childs meal came with a drink or if I needed to buy one she rolled her eyes and said no but I could have one anyway. Bit of an odd experience.

Saturday night 7pm Got regular fish and chips and child's meal. Nothing ready. Waited 15 mins. Staff friendly. When we got home fish was appalling. Very little fish surrounded by uncooked batter that was fatty and stodgy. Won't go back anytime soon.

Please avoid, staff extremely rude, pushing sundries, order incorrect and tried to say we were in the wrong. Advise to use Reds instead. We will never return.

The best fish and chips in town. Regular fish always a good size and excellent chips,wouldn't go anywhere else

Request fish, chips, gravy, scraps. Get told there’s no scraps after I’ve paid and they hand me my food (and after questioning if the scraps are in the bag too). Gravy watery and tasteless. Chips... well... oven chips (yes, really!) Never again.

Purchased Large fish and chips and jump sausage for tea to share between two people, all cooked fresh and really tasty. Will definitely return with easy parking

I get my large Cod n Chips here every week as I dnt eat from any of the halal takeaways! Good staff! Will be back again tonight!

All food sold in this shop is piping hot, well cooked and presented in a hygienic manner. The food is to kill for, it is that good. We use it on a regular basis.

We often get fish and chips here. Order over the phone. Pick up and red hot still when we get home. Lovely.

Hi. Again. I write this review as someone in who's family a uncle ran A fish and chip shop. And I served. And as Allways..It's unbiased and honest. I like to be fair. So very good portions.. regular is large.. large is huge.. well priced. But well priced bad food is still bad..as soon as I broke the fish open. I knew it was .not fresh. It was stale. Not off. But passed its best. Chips soggy. Batter obviously bought in. I am not reviewing all the meals just my fish and chips. It seemed busy. But I in all honesty could not give this establishment any recommendations. Long wait time. And nothing good at the end. Sorry mr chippy.. fresh food. Freshly cooked is Allways a winner. I think profit was put before product. Don't go. ..unless they pick up the baton??

I asked for a large fish and chips with my side order of mushy peas, and hey-presto it was there within five minutes from served from Chris i think his name is to going, cooking and delivering my meal. I got home had my meal and hey-presto, Mr Chippy well done, you got 5 stars on this one. Its good to see the staff and managers so polite and friendly. Highly recommend it to everyone. Best place for fish and chips in Newton Aycliffe. Good value for the money. There's nowhere else to get that sized fish and chips and side order for that price, once again, well done!

Staff were nice and friendly. The fish was just bland though and clearly not fresh. I wouldn't recommend.

Last minute decision to have Fish & Chips after a 258 mile journey to visit family. Shop was busy which was a good sign and fish cooked to order. Only good point to the visit was the guy who took the orders, friendly, polite and had manners. 1st thing that annoyed me was the way one of the work force (young girl in stripe tabard) spoke to the guy who was serving, it was so rude that I had to pull her up and say something. 2nd (owners son) what a waste of space, he spent more time sat at the back of the shop on his mobile phone, when questioned by my partner his excuse was he was helping out as the shop was busy.!!!! 3rd (girl in blue tabard) serving food to customers. No apology for delay, customers had to question orders. 4th (a lady waited over half an hour for straight forward order of two lightly battered cod and chips, they even tried to serve her with a fish that had been cooked for over half an hour, again no apology from girl serving for mix up or wait. 5th and most annoying. We ordered two fish and chips and a child's cod (straight forward you would think) again waited about 20 minutes at this point there was only myself and partner in shop. A couple arrived while we were waiting and ordered 1 large fish and chips and got served before us. At this point my partner kicked off and was spoken to by the son (we work in food and hospitality and aired our concerns and was advised by the son that a chip shop was completely different ( clueless is an understatement) Learning points for this business has got to be organisation skills, manners and customer service skills. One we won't be returning to and we advised son of this of which he replied (if he lost our business he wouldn't go under. Ps Food wasn't good.

Great battered sausage sandwich and the staff are always very kind to my autistic brother, who comes in regularly. We searched for a while in Co. Durham to find a great chippy. Would definitely recommend!

Came here on way home for work after being on earlys i didnt fancy cooking prices were way to expensive fish was raw and cold chips tasted like the oil handnt been changed for months and chicken nuggets were freezing and hard! Even my can of dr pepper was flat and warm! Never again sorry guys

Straightforward British food, cooked to order and plenty of it. A friend had suggested that I tried this place when I'd moaned about the chips in my local chippy. She was dead right tooNice friendly service and at a fair price. Will use again

Never seems to be a queue but chips are excellent and food we have had has always been bang on. Very well priced.Always seems to be very clean.Would strongly recommend.

It's good, but not how it used to be! Now the chicken nuggets are frozen and the prices have gone up. Still good, quality food though.

I prefer local stores who pride themselves in fresh, hand-made produce. However this was not the case at Mr. Chippy (any more). EVEN the chips are frozen, not to mention the chicken nuggets (which USED to be the best in the North-East, buy far). Shame the old owners left, fish and chips will not be the same now people start to use frozen food.

ive just had the best fish and chips ever forget going to Whitby ect ect.get yourself to mr chippy newton ayecliffe. the shop is spotless and the staff are the best. great value for money.

On opening the fish wrapper I was greeted with a fish battered in what can only be described as chicken nugget batter. Soggy, smooth, no air in the batter. The whole thing literally swimming in a pool of oil. The fish tasted like it had spent sometime on a freezer. In fact I've had better from supermarket. The decline of quality fish & chips continues as they get taken over by people who really don't care about tradition or quality. Sad really.

Last night we enjoyed lightly battered chunky white fillets of cod, freshly cooked and accompanied by a good portion of tasty chips. This was the third time we'd had them in three months and they are consistently delicious.
