Worst experience, poor customer service too much attitude for the girls who works there very disappointing

Tried this place for the first time yesterday, looks lovely inside and out but thats all. The food was awful. Fries are not fries they are small chunks of soggy potato. Lamb chops are very fatty and flavourless. The butter chicken had so much sugar we couldn't eat it. Service was very slow. I told them to take the service charge off. My sister has been throwing up today. We won't be coming back.

Walked passed here and decided to take family for lunch. Lovely looking place with nice atmosphere and good service but that's all that was good. Food was bland and and portions were small, we spent just under £80 and awkwardly paid a 10% service fee. Not sure why restaurants add this, you order food and they have to bring it out to table so why they charge service fee is ridiculous. Also the fries aren't fries, potatoe chunks which kids did not appreciate. Drinks were nice though.

We were a party of 9 for a hen do, and I've been to Mowgli before so I know food comes out when it's ready but for some reason all our starters then our mains came out at the same time?! We were waiting over an hour for our starters to arrive and service was really slow, there were times I tried to get someone's attention for around 10 minutes. The servers were polite but this did have an impact on our day as we ended up being there much longer than anticipated. The food was incredible but the service really did let it down unfortunately.

Food is ok had the lamb chops with potatoes but I asked is it possible to pay for an extra lamb chops as you only get two and they said no ? Why would you not try please your customers and finally I asked for the bill and was forgotten about for ages had to call staff member again and was late getting back to work so I suggest either the small meat portions go up or the give people an option to pay for extra.

Mowgli has been mine and my partners go to since discovering it. So much so we have visited three times in April alone! The decor is stunning the ambience is the most relaxing we have experienced in any restaurant thus far. We're getting to know the menu quite well now and have tried so many of the different options, none disappointing every dish has been superb and such a joy to try. The staff have been incredibly professional, welcoming and attentive. Azita in particular, who has been our waitress for our three visits to the Grand Central branch and what a pleasure and a joy she has been to be served by. Always smiling and making us feels most comfortable she's an asset to the team and we couldn't have asked for better.

Positive ambience and great staffs , but the dishes were named Indian , were sadly not . They tasted very different than the Indian food. Drinks were actually good ( Sherbat , tropica beer and Diet Coke ) Bhel poori has a different tangy taste , butter chicken was a simple curry which had not even a drop of taste of butter chicken , goan fish curry was sweet instead of spicy , moreover it was very expensive ,for 10£ just a half of the tiffin was given , quantity was not expected for the rate , we were still so hungry after the 62£ bill. Thank you .

Was in at 4.15 waited 45 minutes for our drinks an hr for our food then asked twice where our meal was still waited had to ask again got served by 3 different people asked for the dessert menu nothing then another person we asked could we have a dessert menu did not leave till 6.30 service was poor also should off been asked if we wanted to give a pound to charity not good

I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others. My family and I dined at Mowgli, Birmingham (Grand Central location) recently, and sadly, 4 out of 8 of us ended up with food poisoning — including my 5-year-old child. It was a horrible experience: nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps that lasted for days. We followed the proper complaint procedure and submitted a food safety form, but were shocked and disappointed to receive a response claiming the illness didn’t come from their restaurant. This was the only place we had all eaten together in weeks, and the timing and symptoms clearly point to this meal. It feels like they’re refusing to take any responsibility. We were really looking forward to the meal based on the fact we had eaten here before and enjoyed it, but something clearly went very wrong that day. Whether it was poor food handling or spoiled ingredients, it’s completely unacceptable — especially when it affects a young child. I sincerely hope they take this seriously and make immediate changes to their food safety practices. Until then, I would strongly advise others to avoid this location.

As a frequent visitor to Mowgli and often recommending the restaurant to friends and family, specifically the Birmingham branch, I don’t feel at all comfortable recommending this place again with a good conscience. On our latest visit, we arrived at our reservation on time and were seated immediately, but after the food order was taken we were left sitting with no check ins or updates for an hour - when the mains were served we had to wait another hour before our desserts were served, 30 minutes in I had to physically flag down staff only to be told they’ll get the desserts out indicating they had forgotten, after another 30 minutes the dessert ( 2 scoops of ice cream) was served we had to wait another 30 minutes before realising id had to get up and physically flag another member of staff to get the bill. If i didn’t get up and physically flag staff id probably still be there in the restaurant after the restaurant had closed. Someone should check to see if anyone else was left behind

Usually Mowgli is one of our go-tos for good food service and atmosphere, however our visit this evening fell short. Although we always enjoy the food and this occasion was no exception, the quality of service left a bad taste in our mouths. We spent 2 hours here this evening after ordering the set menu, and waited initially about 30 minutes for our food and another 45 for our desserts (which was just ice cream as this came with the set menu). We were sat in the corner of the restaurant and felt staff had forgotten about us. We only got our desserts after asking twice and my partner had to leave his seat to ask for our bill as staff were inattentive and ignored us trying gain their attention. Despite it being a saturday evening, the restaurant was not overly busy and had many empty tables. Other tables around us had regular check ins from staff and plates cleared in a timely manner and were not left waiting as long as us. Upon making staff aware of our concerns, no efforts were made to improve our experience or rectify the situation. Really disappointing as we regularly come to Mowgli and have had many larger events in this restaurant. Not sure if we will be returning after this experience

We were here for 2 and a half hours waiting for food for a longggg time. Both tables around us that arrived way after us got their food before us, we asked about our food and were told two minutes twice.. it was busy but I do feel ours were forgotten and no follow up was made for a long time. weren’t asked if we wanted second drinks and didn’t have anything to make up for our time. Really disappointed. Food was okay but expensive. Looks nice ( but not for two and a half hours) toilets nice lol even added a 10% service charge!

Fabulous experience with great food

For the quantity of food they serve the price was too much...a single Puri is £4. We ordered 2 curries and rice and the quantities was so poor for even a single person. Not recommend the place if we want to eat good quantity food. The sitting benches are also not comfy, it of wood no cushion. Those who have backpain can feel difficulty if sits for long

I ordered the monkey wrap. It arrived soaked in really thin sauce which didn’t have much taste. The chicken was actually VERY burnt. I showed this to the manager and he said “you’ve eaten most of it” when in reality I’d just moved bits around the plate and tried to eat around it but the chicken was not edible and to call the roti soggy is an understatement. Really rude and disrespectful. My husband ordered the garlic chicken curry and it was pretty watery too. Quite disappointing as it was our first time here and I’ve heard good things. I won’t be coming back

Had an amazing assortment of food with the set menu, which was served for 4 people Both the setting of the restaurant and the service was amazing.

If you're thinking about going here, just think twice. The presentation and the atmosphere of the restaurant is really good for photos. But eating the actual food is rubbish, they give you quite small portions for a large amount of money and they use dim lighting to make it seem you're getting more than you're eating. I've went here for my mum's birthday and the cost for the 3 of us came up to 80 pounds for such small portions. Please also CAREFULLY read the menu as we ordered a street food sharer, they tend to put the price for per person in a small font (for people who wear glasses), as we thought the whole street food sharer was £25. I also don't reccomend eating the fenugreek kissed fries and gunpowder chicken since the fries aren't even fries they're potato cubes (quite bitter) and the gunpowder chicken doesn't even taste like chicken you can only taste the sauce which is too strong.

Second visit to a Mowgli, but first time to this one in Birmingham. Great location, nice, friendly welcome. Fairly quick and good service, and outstanding food. We'll be back!

Food was tasty and service was good, Prayasha was really kind and attentive, great service as a result

I enjoyed my visit with my wife dropped in after a visit to the nec thought we would do a bit of a review as we were passing great atmosphere think the portion size was good for us we did a few cocktails which we enjoyed the mains arrived promptly with the bottle of red wine went for the best option was a nice bottle and complemented the lamb dishes well ended up with coffee not dessert definitely will visit again

Visited Mowgli recently after following their journey for quite a while but was very underwhelmed, I didn’t think the food was as flavourful and cooked as well as I had hoped. Was a disappointing experience having looked forward to visiting quite some time now. The interior was nice and ambient, loved the lighting and style

Describing the ambiance as breathtaking would be an understatement! I feel in love with the lights , low music and setting the restaurant brings ! All I had was peppermint tea and it was lovely ! I’ll be back to try out more.

We visited Mowgli Birmingham after an afternoon theatre visit and had a lovely time. The service was perfect and so friendly. The atmosphere was great, really lively and I always love the lighting within the restaurant... It has a magical feel to it with so many warm twinkly lights around. Then to the food and drink... We went for a gorgeous bottle of Pinot Noir, which was smooth and really drinkable. Then we had a sharing set menu to try the best of Mowgli, and it was fabulous value for money. 3 starters, including the delicious Gunpowder Chicken, followed by 3 curries with roti and rice, and then to finish an ice cream or sorbet each. We felt it was excellent value for money and the food was so tasty and flavourful. Would come back without hesitation and really enjoyed our visit.

Came in with some girl friends just for a sit down and a drink. The hostess was very accommodating. Luke, who brought us the drinks, provided a friendly vibe. The atmosphere inside the place was both chilled and magical. Would definitely come again!

Food including main courses and desert were only luke warm and not hot which is usually the case.

Can’t wait to come back here, the food was Amazing, great atmosphere, Emma looked after us and was super helpful, great food and great service.

Visited here yesterday, waiting staff were very kind and friendly, food was okay. They didn’t have most of the cocktails, and only had half of the mocktails available. We were sat down, but then it took 25 minutes before we were approached and drink order taken. Food was a little bit slow coming out (nearly 30 minutes after we ordered), and we had to rush eating. Nice lighting, very clean but just could have improved on the service, food and drink availability a little more.

Very bad customer service The host was very rude when we asked for a different hanging seating. Despite having 2 children with us and the restaurant having enough empty tables, they said we can’t offer you very rudely despite frequent second request from us The attitude was shown in the entire visit from the host and they kept us reminding 3 times in first 10 mins to order immediately as the restaurant will stop taking orders and they confirm us the phone booking at 8:30 and can’t wait till 8:45 for us to decide our order No help in the menu and food was equally bad

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! Azita was incredibly attentive and made sure every detail of our dining experience was perfect. From suggesting excellent menu choices to checking in at just the right moments, she made us feel welcomed and valued. The environment was equally impressive—elegantly designed with a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

Nice twist to your traditional Indian food but sometimes service is really poor here

Mowgli second time visiting it is worth visiting and great to try it’s a unique twist on Indian street food the decor in the restaurant is pretty with the fairy lights. Unique with swing seating. Great to try for a celebration wouldn’t really go here casually as it’s more on the pricy end.

Highly recommend the Office Workers Tiffins - such a great variety

Food was nice enough but we seemed to be forgotten about once we’d arrived. Sat down at 18:15, ordered food for my son which arrived at 18:20 and then our food didn’t arrive for another 30 mins despite all the tables around us being served, some of whom had arrived after us. Not sure what had happened. I like Mowgli’s recipes but I think I’ll continue cooking them at home 😐

We had booking on 12 January at 13:00 pm but arrived 30 minutes early. When my partner ask the counter lady about our reservation, she was literally mad at my partner. As it was my partner’s birthday I felt very sorry for her. But other colleagues were friendly and helpful. Personally I prefer Indian style food but I don’t want to comment on their main dishes, simply I didn’t like it. *Mocktail and starters were good and recommended.

Lovely place for dinner. Me and my partner spend every special occasion here and I’m never disappointed with the food. One main and rice is more than enough food for one, especially if you share a starter. Lovely atmosphere and never empty which is nice to see!

The staff were very slow in service - taking orders, serving dishes to the table.. No cutlery is given unless customers ask them. You need to wait for at least 10 minutes for any of your ask, even for bill, ordering food. This is during the off peak or off rush hours. Not sure how they are managing the peak hours. The dishes didn’t even arrive after 20 minutes, when enquired about the same, staff took another 10 minutes and didn’t even update me on their own.

Brilliant tasting food plus you can have as much or as little as you want. Staff very attentive. It was a bit quiet when we went so not a lot of atmosphere but very nicely done. Will definitely revisit

Visited this place on a recommendation- and we were not disappointed. From the decor to the food we blown away, and the food had not even been served. Eat and every dish was perfectly cooked and served, the staff were very knowledgeable. We spoke to a member of staff named Qamar who went over and above - so thank you for making our evening memorable!!

Had to wait in front of nearly empty restaurant for almost 5 minutes because the waiter didn't allow us to take a seat, it was so frustrating to begin with and then the food tasted so pathetic. The only good thing about the place is its ambience.

Warm welcome. Knowledgable staff. Gluten free adapted menu. Vegetarian options by far the best and tastiest. Atmospheric. We’ll be back. 😋

Never been here before so my other half and me decided to try this restaurant out. We were not disappointed he had the green chicken I had a lamb dish can't remember what it was but it and his food was delicious 😋 for sides he had a Dahl i had chickpeas my goodness the whole thing was lovely. Our server Prayasha was very nice and took our order and in no time we were eating them, I would certainly go back there again sometime. The portions were plentiful without you feeling stuffed.

Had a great meal tonight with my friend after a long day and the food was just what we needed! Azita, Warda, and Jake were all so lovely and we really felt welcome! I will definitely be coming back :)

Azita and Jacob were absolutely fantastic - I cannot explain how amazing my visit was. The atmosphere in the venue is so chill and beautiful, and the food was unreal! The service was lovely, as always, and the prices cannot be beaten! Cannot wait to go back!

Food is quite bland to be classed as Indian food. It’s definitely for a milder palate. Tried a couple of dishes, but wasn’t really a fan of them in comparison to other Indian restaurants. Staff were lovely and inside is pretty, average food.

I had a chance to visit Mowgli for the first time today with my friend. To be honest ambiance of the restaurant is very captivating , food is fantabulous and I loved the chart bombs the most as per recommendation of the staff named warda . Her service is very good with a big smile on her face . Definitely visiting this restaurant again.

I have visited once before and since I enjoyed my first visit so much I thought to drop in again, I was not disappointed. I was greeted by a fellow called Jacob who was very nice and welcoming, as I was sat I was then greeted by Harriet who was very knowledgeable about the menu and very engaging, she even gave me some insight into the mowgli restaurant which was very interesting. I decided to go for the chat bombs these are amazing, I also had the monkey wrap and the prawn curry. Not my usual choice in curry but was told by Harriet that I would not be let down and I wasn’t, it was amazing. The service and food was fast but not rushed I absolutely love the look of this place. I will recommend to all my friends and family as I enjoyed my visit so much. I will be coming back next time I am in the area

Very bad hospitality, food is amazing thanks to chef..

Our first visit here and has a lovely vibe. The decor is really good and we loved the quirky ghee tins to hold the cutlery on the tables. The staff were nice and had great service yesterday. The menu is reasonable. The Chaat bombs are fab and we loved the Tiffin tin presentation. Is the food fabulous? Not really. Average in our opinion. Pricey for what it is (but I appreciate costs of running a restaurant in Grand Central will be high). Why does the Puri bread come as only 1 piece and priced same as 2 rotis? Puri is just fried roti, and looks larger than it actually is (because it's air filled). We have had far better food at half the price in our local desi pub restaurants. Just need to work on the flavours more, e.g. the potato curry dish needs to be more savoury than sweet. Looking at other reviews, apparently the menu hasn't changed for over 3 years. Shame that. But still worth a visit from the experience.

Great and attentive service from Bea on a busy Friday evening in the lead up to Christmas in Birmingham on 20 December 2025. Great food and drink is always so much better when accompanied by helpful and friendly wait staff whose attention is easily attracted and who give service with a smile. Well done Bea!

Ordered set menu which arrived quickly & was delicious. Plenty of food & lots of different dishes to try. Getting the second course & bill was a little slow due to the resturant being so busy & not many staff but definitely worth the wait. Reasonably price good food & friendly staff - well done & thank you.

Come here last week and had the best experience, the food was banging and a good deal. A nice lady called Ameera served me and she advised me what to pick and got it right. Loved the swinging chairs and atmosphere definitely returning.

Was looking to try somewhere new in Birmingham on a Saturday night. This was the perfect date night location. Ambience of the restaurant was very cozy. Food was delicious and the service was great from Amira and Beatrice. Restaurant was very busy but food came very quickly. Gunpowder chicken is unreal!

super expensive for mediocre food and TINY portions. 10% service charge for really bad service; verging on rude and surly. Wasn't busy yet I had to a for our plates to be removed / ask for a desserts menu. Had to then ask to order the desserts and drinks.. and my asking (after waiting 30 mins with the empty plates in front of us) seemed to irritate the waiter even more.. Massive shame as we'd gone on a reccomendation from the one in Oxford.

Came here on Tuesday with my husband and 2 children, one of my children is gluten free and the menu was perfect for her. Ameira (sorry about the spelling) was lovely and introduced herself to us and went over the menu as with my children wanted something new but will suit them well, the options recommended worked a treat. The atmosphere was lovely. Very beautiful decor and food was very tasty. I would definitely recommend to others and can't wait to go back to try the festive menu. The Lychee Martini was also my favourite drink too nice and sweet but not sickly. Mowgli Brum 10/10 wonderful.

Overrated!!!! Had high expectations but worse experience. Our food was served after 1 hour and half of the ordrwd food was missing. Staff: no communication, not friendly. Atmosphere was ok but overcrowded. ££££ to expensive for the food they give you!

If anybody is interested in indian food not recommended place. Service poor, food taste poor ,quantity poor overall waste of money and time. And yes quality of food poor. Definitely not recommendable place it is just famous because of decor that is all We feel.

This was my 3rd visit to the restaurant, the service has considerably gone downhill since my previous visits. As of December 2024 the service was absolutely awful, we asked a lady if we could order some food and she then refused to take our orders and told us she would get someone else to do it. She had just been to another table serving food so I don’t see why she couldn’t take our orders or come back shortly. If she was kitchen staff and not taking orders then why was she acting as a waitress and on the restaurant floor? Then when the food arrived at the table we weren’t given any plates so we ate it out of the tiny serving dishes getting rice and food all over the place. We just started eating it anyway and then half way through the meals another member of staff went and got us plates like they should have bought out anyway. Another waitress was staring at my partner at one point during the meal and made her feel uncomfortable. We mentioned all of the above whilst paying our bill and no reduction was given which was shocking, if the restaurant can’t even get the plates right you know something is seriously wrong with the amount of care given by staff. The only thing that saved this review from being 1 star was the food. The food was great which was the only reason we were even partially satisfied when we left. The cocktail menu was also pretty poor as was the selection of available beers with Cobra being the only realistic option unless you want an awful tasting tropical style IPA which I tried and left on the table. Apart from that, the restaurant itself has been decorated exceptionally well and lots of thought has been put into it. It’s a shame the service didn’t match the style of the decor.

It was just ok, food is nice, not warm enough though, service was slow and sullen. Waited about 20 mins for bill never cleared our plates away. And the roof was leaking or dripping in on us

SAT DOWN AND KICKED A MOUSE TRAP!! Place looked amazing, great vibe. Literally found a mouse trap under my foot at the table. Picked it up and put it on the table, and the waitress tried to tell me it was an air freshener. Called the manager over who apologised, so I walked out. I certainly won’t be eating here.

Great food, great staff, meticulous about our families allergies - staff understood and took orders without any hesitation. But it was my daughter birthday and it was so busy we didn’t really get the attention we deserved - no ask of if could extra drinks as we were there for an hour before he got our food- and then sitting with dirty table and plates for ages. Part of our party needed to leave before deserts so that was a real shame. Friendly staff when they did come but rushed off their feet. Worth going but not when so busy!
