Mother Hubbard’s in Shropshire

Lovely place. But the fish was tasteless and covered in batter. Apparently no other option. Big serves lots of thick chips, again no option.

They only do gluten free jacket potatoes and definitely not gluten free fish and chips 😔 but staff where nice and helpful just wish Google maps was little more helpful with it's miss leading information saying they do gluten free fish and chips they don't they only do jacket potatoes as gluten free

We ate here, over the bank holiday weekend. The food was absolutely delicious. Without doubt the best fish and chips we've ever had! If you served a cold beer, it would have been perfect 🤣

We were visiting Shrewsbury and were recommended to come here by Sabrina Boats as the only fish and chip shop in town. Excellent fish, crispy batter, delicious chunky chips and good quality mushy peas. Reasonable on the meal deal with a drink for £11.45. Highly recommend. Spacious and clean seating area with lovely, friendly staff.

Absolutely Horrendous Experience – Avoid at All Costs If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This was hands down the WORST experience I’ve ever had with any restaurant. I placed an order and waited for TWO HOURS — not minutes, hours — only to have it randomly cancelled without a single apology, explanation, or update. What kind of unprofessional, disorganized mess of a restaurant operates like this? If you can’t handle orders, maybe close your kitchen instead of wasting people’s time. I was starving, waited patiently, and ended up with NOTHING. No food, no courtesy, just radio silence and then a cancelled notification like a slap in the face. This place is a joke. Don’t bother unless you enjoy being disrespected, ignored, and left hungry. They clearly don’t care about their customers — just take your money and play games with your time. Do yourself a favor and order from literally anywhere else.

We went into Mother Hubbards in Shrewsbury Thur 3rd Apr for Fish n'Chips. The girl behind the counter was friendly & helpful & brought our order to the table. I had the meal deal Fish n'Chips, Mushy Peas & a can from the well stocked fridge. My partner had the Special Fish. The food was delicious, cooked beautifully, lovely fresh delicate batter, proper chips & the Mushy Peas tasted like they used to (best Mushy Peas I've had). The portion size is really good I was stuffed. Would totally recommend Mother Hubbards.

Had fish & chips as a takeaway away after day visit to Shrewsbury. The food was cooked to order so I thought it would be great. But the fish skinless boneless haddock was overcooked and dry. The chips had quite a taste of drywite like they had soaked in it for too long. The staff were great and place was nice and clean. But was just disappointed.

Despite ordering over 3 hours earlier our order was 25 minutes late my chicken and mushroom pie was barely warm however the other food was acceptable

Was really hungry when I visited and it did not dissapoint, in my case. £10 for fish and chips and the serving was massive, gobbled it all up and it was gorgeous. Crispy in the outside and fluffy in the inside, chips were crispy as well. Only prob I had was that the other sauces need to be bought, which I think should be free. Service was good. Place is like a food chain though, can be a bit untidy inside and can be crowded. But other than that, loved the fish.

Ordered fish, chip & curry sauce today via uber eats. The item was delivered 20 minutes later than the top allocated time on the app. It came stone cold and had to be put in the microwave. The chips had no salt & vinegar on them as directed in the notes and the can of cream soda i paid for was nowhere to be seen! An overall awful experience especially considering the north of £13 price! This is my 2nd bad experience with delivery from here but my first review.

Very upset by this! I waited a hour and a half then got a phone call to say it’s going to be another hour so we decided to cancel the order as I was going out for Valentine’s! Tried to deliver it even though order got cancelled on the phone and I deserve a full refund as I never received food and then after communicating they still tried to deliver even though cancelled

fish and chips very poor fish was very dry and tasteless

Outstanding Fish & Chips and spicy curry sauce was worth every penny. However, though thr food was top quality it was let down by the fact I'd paid for 2 Tartar Sauce and it wasn't added. The last time I ordered from here they sent 2 curry sauces and not a gravy. The managers really need to step up and get their act together as it puts you off ordering especially as they are a lot more expensive than most chip shops. It ruins the reputation of MH Brand

on a trip from Hereford we came across Mother Hubbard's chip shop called in for lunch it was great value and good fresh cooked food 5 star

I loved the fish and chips since it opened ( been there many times) but the last two times it has gone downhill. Fish was ok, but the chips were awful - reheated and almost inedible. It needs to get back to the standards it had when it first opened.

Food ordered at 17:13pm and wasn’t delivered until 19:10 - said it would arrive by 18:15 this wasn’t the case. Nearly 1 hour late driver didn’t arrive to pick up the order, ended up being Mother Hubbards who delivered!!

I ordered Gravy and a Spicy Curry Sauce, they sent a normal curry and a spicy one. My wife can't tolerate anything Spicy and what she thought was gravy turned out to be the hot curry and ruined her chips and because I'd poured the mild curry over my chips she had to go without as she doesn't like curry sauce. The meal was just about warm which we've never had before and batter on the fish not as crispy, this might have been down to the driver dropping off other orders before ours.

Ended up arriving well after the first ETA, which then kept changing. Correct order arrived, was warm but not hot. Everything was a bit limp and soggy, batter on fish was very soft like it had been left on a side for a while and lost any crunch? Mushy peas weren't very mushed and we're also quite watery, strangely sweet as well? Meal was fine in the sense that nothing was inedible, just bit disappointing when you pay above the average 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Standards have fallen, likely won't order again...

I go here every week, Great Chips and Fish, the batter is always crispy, nice freshly made chips. Excellent service from all the staff, especially Daisy (from the night shift) who is always very pleasant and is an asset to your company. 10/10 from me

Basically guys, if you're gonna allow delivery orders later at night - don't send out the crap you've got left in hot hold. Just reduce your order times. Usually, the food has been fresh whenever I've ordered. This should've gone in the bin.

The scallops and the fish were extremely over cooked (Burnt) and the chips were like rubber, no Tartar Sauce that was ordered, this used to be the best fish and chip restaurant in Shrewsbury. I do not think I will be ordering from them again.

Batter is very greasy completely soggy underneath fish. Battered chips are over batter more batter than chips would not recommend
